I remember a time....

Ahh, before Vellious, Kunark, or even the planes, the highest AC gear is the kind of stuff we throw away these days when we come accross it. Bronze, or merchant plate if you could find it. Now there's 39 AC shields, 60 AC cloaks (For INT casters no less) and 59 AC Breastplates for a class that can manipulate AC like no other. I looked at all the highest AC stuff available to dwarf paladins as of a week ago, and found that it gives me a total of 510 AC. With no other equipment on, self buffed, I have about 450 AC, and because my character can almost double the AC from Equipment, (as can every other tank, i'm not bragging or anything) he'd have around 1470 AC at his current skill lvl of defence (210). I guess we need it though, with all the King Tormax's, Dain Frostreavers, seemingly unlimited Named Dragons in the new zones, and whatever's coming up in Luclin. I'm a sap for the older stuff though. Sigh
Yup I like

Definitely like this shield fro alot of situations. 100 hp and a lot of ac. Can see it saving my clerical ***** well this and a warrior's taunt =). Hehe useless without the warrior or quick mezz.
SK or Priest Class

I would award this first to an SK. This is an "end game" item (ToV stuff is). SK's because of their multiple abilities are great pullers here. They definately need as high AC as possible to bring the toughest pulled mobs in game back to the troops.

However, if your main SK's already have a similar AC shield dropping it to a priest class will make them happy :).

Paladin's should either have their epic or be expecting an 2 hand primal by the time they face the tougher mobs here. I rarely (never) see level 60 paladins using 1 hand weapons. War's would never use. (Silly VI).

Really, the whitestone is a pretty bad item, because SKs, Paladins, Shaman, and CLeric drake shields are all better, while the druid shield I guess you could put away in situations where you wanted to go pure AC. And frankly, you are gonna get 10 times as many drake shields for everyone as whitestones or nets. SKs have their ac55 shield from Sevelak to look forward to also, so this would really just be a tide over to them.
say what?

I'm a paladin and i got to ToV. Just logged off to here from there actually. I don;t have my epic. Most of the pallies that go there don't either. What is this ******** cop out **** saying that this or that class wont want to use a certain item because they have their epic? Dumbass, play the class/get some info before you post. I'd love this shield, qielded with my Darkmetal Falchion.

errr bud, checks around for puddles of water, this is a harder item to get where u need double tough ubby guilds to do, so before you start going crazy check out 2hs for temple of veeshan and notice the ax that you can use that's like 40 42 and have 80 mana. This of course in addition to like a million stats including str and resists. remember when you see places like ToV you usually have set plans to kill certain creatures or farm the SS quest armor, if you going after one of those named then you will probably go for an ax another day or maybe even later that day. now take a deep breath find that ax that i am talking about, smile and say ***** my epic i want that ax.
Color?

Anybody have any idea what this shield looks like?
RE: Color?
# Sep 09 2002 at 6:01 PM Rating: Decent
I have one on Xev and will send you a screenshot if you email me at: valyrae@aol.com and provide an email address. It looks like a big round wooden shield with a white spike in the middle. I replaced my sarnak battle shield with this one and have been happy with the upgrade...not an amazing shield but certainly a very good one.
Bladestopper look
# Jun 16 2001 at 10:03 AM Rating: Default
A large number of the shields in North ToV use a bladestopper model, and the whitestone is no exception
paladin use

First dragon in the Forbidden area of ToV. Generally speaking, there are a lot of class-specific shields of far superior quality beyond him.
WTF?
# May 31 2001 at 7:06 PM Rating: Decent
what the hell a warrior and a druid can use, but NO RANGER? part warrior/part druid can't use? WTF is that?
RE: WTF?
# May 31 2001 at 10:16 PM Rating: Decent
Sorry but rangers wouldnt use it more than likey as is. Why use a shield when you can just root and shoot arrows all day :)Not to mention duel wielding 2 yaks with high dex is a lot more fun!

> Not to mention duel wielding 2 yaks with high dex is a lot more fun!

The shield drops in Temple of Veeshan. If by the time you're going there, you're still wielding yak's, time to complain that ebay didn't teach you how to play.

That being said, rangers don't unse shields (in MOST situations). Yes, there's always going to be a situation where they're better off with one for one reason or another (high resists, need to minimize taunt, etc). Those situations aren't quite the norm yet, though it might get here.

I totally agree, why use a shield if you are a ranger? everyone else will just laugh at you :)

Don't forget shaman =) we need AC also, specially when slow gets resisted and we get our asses handed to us
#REDACTED, Posted: May 31 2001 at 11:51 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) monk item u'd have to be insain to let ne1 else roll
#Anonymous, Posted: May 31 2001 at 11:56 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Funny joke but - not usable by monk so not so funny .
There is a reason monks don't use shelids
# May 31 2001 at 3:58 PM Rating: Decent
it's the same reason theives don't either. We're damage dealers, not damage takers. Give up a nutty 2HB or epics deul fists for some AC? heck no.
RE: There is a reason monks don't use shelids
# Jun 03 2001 at 3:41 AM Rating: Decent
Shield of Rainbow Hues is a popular shield with the high end monks for pulling. Pull with that shield gives a nice bonus to ac and resists. In big raids, that monk may pull and do little else during the night. Pull and FD till next pull.

Of course, this isn't monkable so a moot point. Shields like Rainbow Hues is better for monks anyways witht he resists, as most of the real dangerous mobs will be casting on the monk during pull.
Nice AC

Now that is some nice AC...
RE: Nice AC
# May 31 2001 at 11:37 AM Rating: Default
Decent stats, too. I'd say paladins and sks would roll for this baby. Although as a cleric I wouldn't mind that wopping 39 AC, 15 agi, and 100 xtra hp :)
RE: Nice AC
# May 31 2001 at 12:21 PM Rating: Decent
It's no drop, from ToV. Most paladins and SKs there either have their epic or will in due time.

Why would they put down their epic for a shield?
RE: Nice AC
# May 31 2001 at 2:33 PM Rating: Default
Primal 1 handers? =P
RE: Nice AC
# May 31 2001 at 10:22 PM Rating: Decent
primal TWO handers.....
This would go to clerics and shm first then druids. I am NOT saying this to "Claim" it, but stating a fact. Pallys and SK's would use 2handers, warriors keep their duel wielding up. I actually think shaman would get this first due to the HP's, and the fact that mobs seem to REALLY hate being slowed (even if it doesnt stick lol). Secondly it would go to clerics more than likey due to needing the ac for when mobs decide to stop trying to kill this player that keeps being at full hp's and go after the caster. Druids lastly by default (cant think of a good reason other than they cant duel wield and wouldnt use 2handers more than likely).
RE: Nice AC
# Jun 17 2001 at 11:26 PM Rating: Default
pally with 2hander? i wouldnt use one. have to have the extra AC and bash is invaluable. i understand that this shield would kick *** on lotsa classes, but to say a pally would use a 2hander is just foolish. a 2hander on a pally is like having a pally as MA. just doesnt make sense. pallies arent damage dealers. we disrupt spells, and if u r oom u need bash. plain and simple
RE: Nice AC
# Jun 28 2002 at 9:33 PM Rating: Default
If memory serves the Paladin Epic 2 handed weapon still allows you to bash.
RE: Nice AC
# Sep 19 2002 at 4:01 PM Rating: Decent
No it does not let you bash, however there is
AA 2hand bash
