am I set?
# Apr 12 2002 at 2:43 PM Rating: Decent
I am a higher level ranger over on drinal. I acquired a Lamentation and a Centi LS to be my primary and secondary weapons and my prized FBSS around my waist. My question out there to all you uber rangers and other massive EQ intellects out there, does it get any better for a ranger to have a Lamentation, Centi LS, and an FBSS? Or is this what a good ranger should use until he gets his epics? Or have I at long last killed enough netherbians, giants, and ulthorks to have at long last been granted a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of NFP....at least until it's Forest Stalker Armor and Epic time....?

Any help would be appreciated.

Stop being such a NOOB! There are better weapons like Frostbringer, Club of the Ice Ocean, Defiance, etc...not to mention a ton of no drops! Also, FBSS is like "My First Haste Item"...There are much better with stats on it:
Guards of Haste
Silver Chitin Hand Wraps
Cloak of Flames/Crystalline Waters
Rune Bolster Belt/Girdle
ETC...
PLZ...If that was all to EQ then Epics I would have stopped playing a long time ago...

Lammy has no damage bonus? If so, its a better off hand weapon and should be used with a main hand weapon like jade mace, which is fast and has dmg bonus. What do u guys think?

lammy, wurm, centi LS
# Mar 13 2002 at 5:10 PM Rating: Decent
I'm a lvl 36 ranger and just came into the possession of a lammy. Before this, I was using a wurm in my primary and centi LS in my secondary. What is an ideal way to pair 2 of these 3? Should I replace the Centi LS with the Lammy in my secondary slot or should I replace the Wurm with the Lammy in my primary slot?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I dont' have a FBSS or any other haste items.

since your a ranger i definetly suggest ya dont use the lammy in primary...you DONT want agro, and your healer doesnt want you to have agro either =). hmmmm......dont use wurmy if your pulling. youll run out of stamina REALLY quick...id go with (pri/sec) wurmy/lammy or centi/lammy depending on the situation

first off wurmy is not crap i just got mine last knight and my first critty was 134dmg at lvl 30. Secondly i would say wurmy is better than centi LS . In any case good luck and if you decide to sell the centi ill buy it.

First off Wurmy sucks. Keep Lammy in offhand for the speed bonus, and Centi LS in main for the damage bonus.

Keep the centi ls in offhand, and alternate between the wurmslayer and lammy in primary. Aggro and group situation should dictate which primary to use. See which combo works for you.

I am a 50 ranger and I have experimented a lot. I have used a two lammy's in both hands. I have used wurmslayer and lammy combo. I currently have Wurmy in primary and lammy in secondary. I dont think a lammy combo is all that great (all though it looks cool). I like the hard hits of the wurmy with the fast attack of the lammy. I have found this to be a awesome combo. People make to big of a deal about the stamina issue with a ranger using a wurmy. My stamina is 102 and I have never had a problem using it! Get over it people! Wurmy is a very effective weapon and u wont get the aggro that every one hates when grouping... just my two cents

Not bragging about it. But if people HAND me stuff, I am going to take it. Like the person who handed my ranger alt a Glowing Black Sword (9/22, +20 dex) and said they were 45 and couldn't use it anymore because of the proc. A couple of days ago my guild told me that since I tended to be the main tank of our 20 something groups I needed to be able to keep aggro better. So the gave me a Lamentation. I trotted out my alt, swiped the GBS from him and use it in my off hand with the lammy in primary. Golly gee whiz, I am now a Blender! My skills are all in the 140s and with good armor and my wife's paladin shield spells, I am pretty formidable for my level. The two weapons seem to always be in motion, and the MoBs all dislike me alot. Sux to be THEM! All the better to be a good group member.

It seems to be that the Lamentation 9/19 6str 6sta +20 hps is the weapon of choice for tanks who wish to hold aggro as the MT in a group situation. Its fast, light, and has decent buffs and a good look.

The problem I have with the lamentation it will waste haste.

As every weapon has it's place in the game, I will not disagree that the Lamentation is a great 1hs. It is. In an unhasted group, or soloing, the Lamentation will hold aggro. The quick ratio and the damage bonus is worthy.
Here is the reaon for my disdain of the lammy is the aggro control aspect-

Consider a low to mid 50's leveled group, consisting of a cleric, enchanter, rogue, bard ranger and warrior. Decently balanced. As far as haste goes, there will be echanter haste, coupled with bard tiwsting haste. Now if the melee's are lucky enough, they would also have some form of a haste item. So, now we got chanter and bard haste, stackin on an iventory haste item, on the melees. (ranger warr and rogue and the bard)
If the warrior continues to use his 9damage 19delay weapon in the primary slot being the main tank, the compiled haste will surely bring his delay down to the absolute minimum of delay. 10.
The new ratio of the lamentation, weilded by the MT, becomes 9/10. Not bad, right ?? Keep the mob off the rest of the meleein' group eh??

What do you all think hehe? I would like to see what some of you all think on this issue, before I finish this post in a few days when I have a little more time. 'Till then...

one thing we dont want to forget here (and please correct me if im wrong) is that haste items only stack with 1 haste song or 1 haste spell in wich eather of the haste spell or song will not take effect ( this dosent mean that it will show the spells didnt take hold warning) i also belive that veratn put a cap of how much haste can be stacked i think this cap is 60 so lets say enchanter epic is around 60% plus you wearing fbss you fbss haste wont count and so on so on
i read this on a another tread hee in this site and wanted to relay the info but once again correct me if im wrong.

well~i heard differently... i didnt program the game, i dont check logs, and my warrior isnt even high level~ even still~ i HEARD differently~ heard 3 types of haste... song, item, and spells (songs dont count as spells =p)~ you can stack all 3 of those, just not 2 of the same kind~ so you can stack song/item/spell but not spell/spell/song because only the betterr spell and the song will stick~~~ but like he said...~ correct me if im wrong =p

I understand what you're saying, but I still think the lammy rules. Here's my thinking... Okay with Luclin out, I'm told that the max haste a person can have is 105% at level 60. I have no idea if that's true or even what source that came from but let's assume that max haste is either 100 or 105%. Now if you calculate haste in terms of delay reduction and you buy the fact that a weapon's minium delay won't go below 10, that means that the ideal delay of a weapon is 20. With a delay of 20 under max haste it will exactly, or nearly exactly, reduce to 10. If you're hasted with a weapon with delay 14, you'll reach the minimum delay of 10 and leave much of your haste unused. So basically, the farther below 20 your haste is, the more haste you're not taking advantag of. But with a delay of 19 like on the lammy you're not losing out on that much haste. On top of that, this sword rocks for for when you're in a group that can't get you to max haste.
To sum up this rambling... If you're looking for the best main hand weapon to use in a group that can get you to max haste, find a weapon with a dealy as close to 20 as possible and with as much damage as possible.
RE: Lammy wastes haste?
# Mar 10 2002 at 10:39 AM Rating: Good
to get lammies to 9/10, you'd have to have some serious haste... fbss (which is defacto) is about 20% (depending on whether you consider haste as delay reduction or damage increase), enchanter epic is around 60%? and bard song i guess around 20-40%... max haste that you can have with luclin out is 100... there is a bit of debate on whether or not you can go below 10 delay on a weapon, but at 100% haste (delay reduction), lammies would be 9/9.5 or 9/10. i think that it doesnt waste that much haste at all... of course this is all speculation, but you did ask for opinions =)
RE: Lammy wastes haste?
# Mar 01 2002 at 1:04 PM Rating: Decent
I see your point. If the min del on any given weapon is 10, then why not get a weapon that has better dmg so when your haste goes down to 10, youll be doing more dmg per sec. Take Centi Longsword 14/27 for example, stack up your haste, bring it down to 14/19 or so right?

Im sure there is a better example, but, I do get your point.

I didnt know that the min, delay for a weapon was 10.

Since you have a CoF, imo you should use the wurmslayer (primary only) and the silken whip (14/28 if I am not mistaken) in offhand, as its snare proc is very useful.

With haste, your lammy may taunt to much, as you assist the main tank. Using the wurmslayer with haste, will have you ripping off hps from the mob, without being beat on in a group..too much )
and the 14 damage of the silken whip is great for offhand, being a 2/1 ratio. By the way- you are too twinked heheh.
But anyways, I am a ranger, and a fan of the wurmslayer as long as haste is involved. I currently have a haste belt (silvery belt of contention) which is roughly 30 percent haste. I wield a lupine dagger primary 9/18 and a centi longsword 14/27 offhand. When I have uber chanter haste stacking on my haste belt grouping, I whip out the wurmy. This combo rocks when you got chanter haste and bard haste song stackin on a haste item. With the wurmy in primary, I still catch aggro heh. I hate to spill my secrets, but I am sure this will help. One thing you must consider wisely is your stamina! You most likely are a wood elf and don't have stamina to spare, I am most certain. As stamina loss does not effect agility post 100 stamina you might wnt to try to get yer stamina up for serious useage of the wurm.
The centi longsword offhand will help alot as its stat buffs are 8str 8sta. In any case, drive on ranger! Enjoy your uber toys. Mix-match till you find out what works best for you, and remember that the key to damage out-put is all in the #'s.

Thank you so much for your advise, Skulreaver !!! I did notice my stamina drop drastically when I was wielding the wurmslayer. I will need to add more STA items, I've been building up on AGI, AC and Magic Resists that I've kinda neglected DEX and STA.
I have a ways to go before I dual wield (level 17, I believe) but I will definitely use your advise. I hope I do justice to being a Ranger, as I take my group abilities seriously when I am not playing my solo Druid.
For now, that I'm soloing trying to level up, the Lammy works really well with the haste. It's a really sweet weapon. But I do see the Wurmy being invaluable when I group at higher levels.

on brell, ppl are selling 'lammys' for 1k. i know that this IS the lammy they are talking about. why is a 9/18 wep worth SO much? i don't c that much in a blade. i would get one for the looks, if i have the cash. but when i get 1k, i'll get a MoSS (i'm an sk). so how is this worth so much? should be like 500p tops. the only i thing i c in this blade is short delay for holding agro. ao WHY does it cost so much?

RE: ? ? ?current price
# Feb 19 2002 at 5:44 PM Rating: Default
Several reasons. First, insane taunt factor. Put on an FBSS and hold 2 of these, and you're gonna hold taunt easilly.

Second, the ratio. It doesn't really apply much to low level players, but to high lvl players with a high damage bonus, these things are godly. At lvl 50 you get a 6 point damage bonus, which puts these at 15/19. Not bad at all. And at lvl 50, most players will have some kind of haste item, which makes these things even better.

Finally, hehe, they just look damn cool. ;)

Off topic for this reply, I can't help but mention one thing. Any ranger that wields one (or god forbid 2) of these things is insane. Little term for ya, mana sponge. Unless, of course, you have your anti-agro spells. Otherwise, get a Wurmy and a Centi LS for the price of one of these. You'll be glad you did.
RE: ? ? ?current price
# Feb 20 2002 at 6:24 PM Rating: Good
most of what you said was good, except youre a lil mistaken about damage bonus. the damage bonus does not add to raw damage, but rather to final damage. e.g. i have a deathbringer's rod (30dam/40dly + 10 damage bonus at level 43) and my normal hits are for 70. normal hits are 2xdamage + damage bonus. when the damage bonus was 9, my normal hits were for 69.

for an sk, lammy's arent a very good weapon choice, but they are expensive because they are fast (delay around 20) and hit relatively hard for their delay, which is good for a dual weilder. two of these would be like a 18dam/19dly weapon (a bit less since dual wield doesnt always happen), so you can see why its nice.

Whereas I appreciate your description of Damage Bonus, I'm not entirely certain it is accurate. I currently wield a Doljornimarinerajl;ajfja... an axe with a big name (gifted to me when a friend quit the game) with a ratio of 33/44. I don't know what my damage bonus is off-hand, but I'm sure it's no higher than mid-teens. Your formula would put my damage at 2x33 + 15ish or around 80 damage (give or take a nickel.) With my current Strength (211 buffed), I'm hitting for over 160. I do not know how the damage bonus is calculated, alas, and even if I knew, my intelligence is only 87, so I probably wouldn't understand it anyway.

His calculation of the damage bonus is correct. It is added after the hit, so therefore, the lowest you could hit for would be the weap's damage bonus +1. However, the damage you hit for is not 2xDMG + Bonus. I'm not sure how it's calculated, but strength is also factored in there somewhere.

I personally used to use Lammy in primary and JBoM in me secondary slot. It's a fairly decent combo, yet i would reccomend tradin in the JBoM and a few pps fer another Lammy. Duel wielding Lammys is bad ***. But if you're in a group with good haste casters (assuming you have haste already) i'd reccomend getting something with a higher dmg aswell.

Karidan, Rangers have a little spell called 'Jolt' or 'Cinder Jolt'...apparently you haven't heard of it. When cast in a fight, it moves the caster down the aggro list. The fact I'm explaining this to you tells me you really need to play with some people who know what they're doing.

Anyhow, consider your little aggro argument D-E-A-D.
RE: OMG
# Apr 18 2002 at 12:09 PM Rating: Decent
Extorius, agreed!

Ok, it's like this - 51st Ranger here, wielding dual lammys, and have been since level 44. I have NO problem with aggro for a couple of reasons:

1. I know how to play (max. distance, wait for MT to get aggro, and JOLT spell).

2. Depends on your MT - if the MT has crap equipment, of course aggro will come to the ranger - duh! In this case, trade-off one or both of your lammys, so as to not cause aggro. Of course I don't have this problem, as I usually play with one bad-*** 60 Warlord :)

Aggro is all about knowing how to play properly, not about the weapons you are using.

in main hand you want fastest wep because your 9 or so dam happens more often ie lupine/lammy etc and offhand should be ratio like a lsoee or centi longsword

do the math a wurm is great up to 50 after that it sux

You are exactly right and THAT is the problem! As a 52 warrior I HATE to see rangers with these, all you do is draw aggro off the tank and become a mana sponge for the cleric. This isn't always 100percent the case but it has been in plenty of situations especially where the ranger has higher haste... My thoughts are that a Ranger has no business using a weapon like this unless they are the main tank. Wurm/Ceni or Wurm/LSoEE will cause you do to MORE damage and keep you from drawing aggro which makes you far more useful then trying to compete with the warrior for the mob's affection =P

Hiya folks. Hope this posts helps some peeps. I will keep it simple.

I am a lev 52 ranger. My haste item is a silvery belt of contention, which I won the roll, on a guild raid of Kael. *roughly 28 percent haste.

I have a backack full of weaps, to use respectively for the occasion at hand. Generally I use a Lupine dagger 9/18 in Pri, and a Centi LS 14/27 in offhand. That works very well.

My stamina is 100+. When I am grouped with a hasting class, I equip my primary with Wurmslayer.
Since I have a haste spell stacking with my haste belt it only makes sense. The proof is in the #'s.

Think of it like this. If you have no haste, a delay in primary of 40 is way to slow, but when you add a haste item and caster haste...you would be wasting the haste if you had say a 18 or 19 delay in primary. It would cap off. On the other hand, 25/40 ratio of the wurm, equated with a haste item stackin with a haste spell brings the delay down tremendously. Just keep it simple! I know this works very well because as a ranger, my objective in a group at my level is to dish out extremely high damage, while letting the tank keep the taunt. Well, even with the wurmslayer in primary and the centi longsword offhand, I still catch aggro quite often. This is simply because the mob with aggro whoever is rippin' away their HPs the most, the quickest. My counter to this is to snare half-way thru fight, not right off the bat, and to always have my ranger so called mem-blur spell "Jolt" always up, which snaps the head of the mob back, making him forget who he was beating on.
To sum this up, the lammy would be good for the tankers who want to hold aggro due to the real low delay. But, don't waste the haste. Keep a wurmy in your ******* for times when you got uber haste at your disposal.
Another note- the wurm is great for us rangers that want to dish out damage and let the tank hold taunt. I am getting groggy and starting to ramble on, so g'nite all.

Please give me numbers on your thinking..using my dmg bonus at 57(10) and an effective haste of 88% (silvery belt and enchanter epic haste).
Lupine dagger 9/18 effective delay=9.57(18/1.88)
dmg formula= 9*2+10/9.57=2.93
Wurym 25/40 effective delay=21.28(25/1.88)
dmg formula= 25*2+10/21.28=2.82
Higher number is better...so if you look at lammy vs wurmy
lammy 9/19 effective delay=10.1(19/1.88)
dmg formula= 9*2+10/10.1=2.77
So at my level the Lupine dagger first then wurmy then lammy...
Hope this helps out.
Why so expensive now?
# Jan 21 2002 at 8:32 PM Rating: Decent
The Centi Longsword has a better damage/speed ratio, better stats (no hp, but +8 str +8 sta...)
And costs less than half as much.

So why is Lammy so expensive?
Or why is the CLS so cheap?

My lammy kicks royal behind. I wouldnt trade it for anything. I usually hit in the high 20's/30's and have maxed out at 43 now. When i get my FBSS I'll be the ultimate killing machine.

Note: The point of this was - NEVER SECOND GUESS THE LAMMY. IT KICKS ***!!!!!!!

Well first lammy is a lot more cause it holds agro, second i trades a Centi LS + 100pp for a lammy so not all people think they are worth the 5k that is the norm. I got a great deal IMO :P

Because lammy is faster and therefore is better in Primary Hand (CLS is better in offhand though). Also Centi longsword is a common drop in an easy zone.

would it be a wise trade for me to trade wu's trance stick and kd's for 2 of these??? im about to come into a large some of equipment for a class i cant stand.(monk heh heh)and these would be nice taunts and dmg/stats im currently using a wurmy at 27(sig might say 26)and either a wakizashi of the frozen skies in the offhand or a mudman enforcer... nice dmg on wurm but i love to see those quick hits... my str is enough to make these worthwile i do believe cause he can hit for 20-21 with a 6 dmg weapon when my rogue only hits for 13.. (same race too) so the 9 would be like an 11 i guess... and the lammies would buff str even higher... point is is the monk junk worth it

# Jan 01 2002 at 10:03 PM Rating: Decent
Truthfully I would get the lammys. They are very good weapons. At 48 i can max at about 39dd and with shammy buffs even higher. They are not the most accurate weapons, heh, but the speed, especially with double attack easily makes up for the often frequent misses on higher level mobs.

hmm i was mostly wondering about the trade issue... lol cant get ahold of em if i cant trade off wu stick and knuckle dusters... any imput on that?

I got a lammy. YAY. Somebody auction - I told - you know the drill - but anyways, i got it for 5k, THATS RIGHT 5k. I LOVE IT. It hits hard and fast and with haste you can be a mean, mean damage dealer. Thanx for all the input.

Now im reall confused. Should I go with a wurmy or a lammy? Wurmies are cheaper but the delay sux. Lammies are atm only 7k but i dont know which is better. If anybody would mind E-mailing me (Bobzilla95@mediaone.net) or sending me a tell that would be really awesome.

Read a number of posts on other forums, and bias aside here are the facts of wurmy vs lammy.

51+ Lammy is the better weapon and by 55-60 dominates.

45-51 Wurmy is better but gradually losing to lammy maybe around 48-49 but close enough.

So depending on your cash or ability to get a lammy, the wurmslayer is an excellent main hand weapon from level 20 to at least 48-50.

At 47 my ranger's damage bonus is 7, that is pretty good. it all adds up so using a lammy would be more beneficial than using a wurmmy. My ranger has 1028atk with self buffs and greater wolf form from the lupine dagger and i normally hit from 35-46damage. it is Uncommon to do less than 30dam. Not too shabby at all. I would say to go with lammies all the way :) unless u have a high lvl enchanter friend with u 24/7 then go with the wurmmy :)

at 47, I would use a lammy. By that time you have a pretty good damage bonus on all weapons (6 I think?) and the more you hit with a weapon, the more the +6 damage is added to your hit. just imo, of course =)

I hear so many people say that the wurmy is such a waste of time and a stamina slayer etc. I have 142 stamina and 194 strength as a warrior and a sash of the dragonborn, and this is my main so the "twink" comments are not necessary, but with my wurmy in main and GJBS in off hand, I crit for 150 or so at level 32 and disrupt their spells with the GJBS regularly. I have found that many who disregard the effectiveness of a wurmy have not taken into account the crit factor that is available to warriors. Mobs will also aggro the highest damage being dealt and at lower levels, with taunt maxed and these weapons, and haveing used the lammy/GJBS combo versus the wurmy/GJBS combo, I must admit that I prefer the wurmy in my main hand. It is foolish to use the wurmy if you havent got the stats to support it, but with the right gear and knowledge and in the right group, it can be very effective. A few strategically placed pieces of crustacean armor with the tremendous strength and stamina stats will assist in this endeavor. Please dont misunderstand, at a higher level, the speed of the weapon will dictate the usefullness of the tank in many cases, but be certain that opinions and information come from established and knowlegeable sources. I would contend that a warrior who has not taken the time to establish the needed statistics to maximize the effectiveness of a specific weapon may not be the best resource for information. I must agree with Nods.

The crit part of your post is true, however when you have a weapon with a high dly in you main hand the weapon in your off hand will swing less. This is because your off hand can only attack when your main one does. Therefore attacking less with your main will reduce the effectiveness of your off and will cause you to do less dmg overall. You might want to log your hits over a solo battle or something and see if you can figure out which weapon works well with the one in your off hand. You want your off hand weapon's dly to me less than your main, but it should only be less by about 5 dly.

it's already been proven by multiple high level wars that yer primary and secondary weapons swing completely independant of each other. the way to test this is to put a blunt weapon in one hand and a fast slasher or piercer(like a lammy or gnoll hide lariat) in the other. that way ye can tell when the different weapons strike (blunt will be crush, 1hs will be slash, piercer will be.. well.. pierce).

however, the gentleman ranger in the the post regarding the damage bonus is correct. yes, at 32nd level the WS is the better weapon, however after ye reach +6 or better dmg bonus (roughly around lvl 45 or so) the lammy becomes more effective for ths simple fact that the damage bonus + the low delay makes the weapon do as much or more dmg over all and thus creates a bigger taunt.

WS is best used between levels 20 and 45. before 20th level yer better with a lower dmg/delay weapon because of the dmg cap placed on under 20th chars, and after 45 yer better with the lammy or other low delay weapon due to the Dmg bonus given by yer higher lvl.

another thing to keep in mind is that after ye reach 100+ stamina, the yellow bar has no effect on yer swing speed unless yer planning to be running and jumping (you can't jump w/o stamina).

heheh and btw, just because this is yer main char, doesn't mean yet not a twink =P my 47th war still doesn't have a lammy OR a GJBS much less both and a WS. personally, i have absolutely NO problems with twinks. as long as the person knows how to do thier job and doesn't have an Ego so big it requires a 2nd group slot, then i am fine with twinks.

I have to disagree with your comment on having a high delay weapon in your main hand causes your offhand to swing less.
I performed a little test on that theory recently using a Wurmie (dmg25 dly40) in my primary and a Glowing Club (dmg6 dly20) in my secondary. I observed that I was getting upto 4 attacks from my Glowing Club between each pair of attacks from the Wurmie, which proves that the delay on the primary doesnt affect your secondary swing time.
I have encountered alot of miss information being passed about in the game about which weapons are better to use. And in my opinion the Wurmie is a misunderstood weapon by the majority of people.
Take for example the issue of using a Lammy or a Wurmie in your primary ... I found that once you take the damage bonus stats into account the Lammy only overtakes the Wurmie in damage output once you reach a single handed damage bonus of 6. Here is the maths as I see it: -

For damage bonus 5 ...
Lammy - Base damage 9 + bonus of 5 = 14
Divide delay 19 by total damage 14
Gives a ratio of 1.357
Wurmie - Base damage 25 + bonus of 5 = 30
Divide delay 40 by total damage 30
Gives a ratio of 1.333

For damage bonus 6 ...
Lammy - Base damage 9 + bonus of 6 = 15
Divide delay 19 by total damage 15
Gives a ratio of 1.267
Wurmie - Base damage 25 + bonus of 6 = 31
Divide delay 40 by total damage 31
Gives a ratio of 1.29

In the above, a lower ratio indicates a better damage output potential.

Only problem with a Wurmie is the stamina factor, as a ranger I get by this with use of Invigor type spells when my stamina gets low. A simple ranger tactic for this when soloing is to root your target and take a few steps back to cast Invigor.
As for weapon choice, the most affective choice I have found is to have your best ratio weapon in the primary and your fastest in the secondary.
