Read the post I was replying to. The guy was saying he rarely fails a high level combine.

In reference to blue diamond cultural (Heraldic, dark prince regent, full mithril, etc.) that would be completely BS. NOBODY who has any reasonable amount of attempts at cultural would claim to rarely fail a combine.

Anyone can get 250 smithing, assuming they have no other skills above 200, without AAs. Once they attain that, there is no AA to improve the success rates. 40% success over time is about all you can get with BD cultural.

That is an incorrect statement since OoW came out. There is now a mastery AA for every tradeskill that when trained to the 3rd level reduces your failure rate at combines by 50%. And tradeskills can now be levelled up to 300.

While 350k is a lot to most players, it isn't an unreasonable price for this item. The crafted elemental armors all require some very rare items and have failure rates higher than any other crafted items. On top of that the plate armor requires about 3 times the amount of supplies of a corresponding chain or leather piece. For example this breastplate would require collecting no less than 6 shimmering fish gills, 8 chunks of e'cian ice, 6 soapstones, and 7 water mephit bloods from Plane of Water. Combine that with about a 30 percent chance of success with a 250 blacksmith and you won't be seeing many of these around.

Where did this info on 30% success rate come from? My experiences have been quite different. While I have not made any Farwater, I have had much better than 30% success on livestone and hurricane plate.

I'm estimating 30% based on my own experience and what people have posted on the eqtraders boards. I'd be curious to hear your experience with livestone since I usually save the stone tempers for leather armor (it has more hp). But hurricane plate and other plane of storms armor have success rates much higher than elemental. At any rate, the elemental armors are definitely harder than the blue diamond cultural which is about 50% but is hard to really narrow down precisely because of how rare they are. For those interested I would estimate the success rates of the >250 trivial armors to be:

30% for elemental
50% for bd cultural, velious tailoring
80-90% for postorms, ponightmare, and cazic thule items

Well, the sample size is very small, just a few pieces made of the livestone, but I am 100% on both Livestone and Hurricane plate armors.

On the other hand, my success rate on BD cultural is well below 50%, more like 30-40%, on over 100 pieces made since I hit 250 skill.

#Tuluvar, Posted: May 06 2004 at 5:24 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Failrate? i hardly failed on any high lvl combines. A smart tradeskiller makes sure to have the AA's to compensate. And 350k is a ridiculous price. I doubt i'd ever sell for those prices.

There are no AAs for Blacksmithing. I assume you do Jewelcrafting, and are an Enchanter? They are the ONLY ones who get any tradeskill oriented AA.

Yeah it is, I am only in the mid 50's, and I notice that with even getting all the pieces, you can still FAIL! So really, the price would be higher because of that too.

EVERYTHING, except for the storebought stuff, is PO Water drops. At least on my server, the materials to make this just don't seem to be available. I have searched the bazaar for 4 months, and have seen the mephit blood ONCE (one of them) and have NEVER seen the soapstone, gills, or E'cian ice.

I'm assuming that its probably because:

1) this is the best version of the elemental smithed BP for melees, so the guilds grinding in PoWater would make these for any melees/twinks who might still need.

2) from what I have been told, PoWater is a hard zone, not just in terms of the mobs, but with underwater combat issues (kind of like a super hard raid version of kedge).

Personally, I think this is better than the Ornate BP, even the version for melees. 10% more ac, 5 more HP, and while it has less stamina than the ornate, in most situations, a warrior of the caliber to get getting this or the ornate will probably have maxxed STA, and if not, will be getting shammy buffs to put them over the top, at least on raids. So while they might have a few less HP without the shammy buffs, while grinding aas or doing adventures, they will have MORE while raiding, which is when it counts.
