Plate or chain
# Jun 05 2003 at 11:12 AM Rating: Default
IS there a difference between plate and chain? o is it just preference. B/c honestly I would rather have chain if it was similar stats...Just wondering if I am completely clueless, b/c I'm not sure if I want to do this quest or Thurg bp.
Thanks
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 14 2003 at 4:35 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Plate gives a better ac bonus, chain bonus sucks
RE: Plate or chain

Paladins can't use the chain bp. Your class determines which quest armor pieces you want. Rangers, Rogues, and Shamans use chain, Paladins, Clerics, Bards, Warriors, Clerics, and Shadow Knights all use plate. You don't get a choice.

There are four types of armor classes, let me explain:

1.The plate class, consists of Warriors, Paladins, Shadowknights, Clerics and Bards.
2.The chain class, consists of Shamans, Rangers and Rogues.
3.The leather class, consists of Druids, Monks, and Beastlords.
4.The silk class, consists of Mages, Wizards, Necros and Enchies.

Each class is restricted to thier own armor type. At least for the velious and planar armor quests.

I have gotten items with clicky effects on them before and a few have denied me the use because I was not high enough level. Since SoW is a Pally 60 Spell, and I am now level 50 with Ally CoV and heading to SS, If I were to be able to gain a drop of the BP and make the SKBP, at what level does the clicky effect SoW become usuable by me?

Thanks.

PS - My first visit to Kael and I won the random on the Corroded Plate BP, so although it IS VERY rare for it to drop, I can always dream.

One of our Paladins had a Thurg BP at 53 or so, and her SoW worked fine, I don't know but I think the lvl requirement on this one is quite low, maybe 49 When the Clerics get it, but its not low level cast because it isnt on any droppable items =)
Shining vs Scaled
# Aug 30 2002 at 2:37 AM Rating: Decent
In today's game, AC is NOT the end-all be all stat. It's mostly HP, with a balance of AC if you solo a lot or xp without a cleric. My personal formula:
AC + Sta + ((1/5)HP) = armor value.
If you use this formula, you get SS > Kael excepting Legs and Bracers.
This formula will also break down when your AC > 1350 with the soft cap, and when Sta > 205 as the highest Sta buff if 50 pts, hence you'll be maxed. But I'm not there yet, at such times I'll simply remove those stats from this formula.

You'll also see, for example, that Chestplate of Vindication > Scaled Knight's Breastplate, and Bracer of Benevolence > Shining Bracer. Lucky me :)

I have a question related to HP bonuses for a given about of STA at each level. I found this info over at EQ Stratics, but I am not sure if it applies only to warriors.

"In the 40's, your naked HP can be accurately determined with this formula: HP = Level * (27 + STA/11). Note that this formula is inaccurate at lower levels due to the rising number of HP gained per level."
Shining or Scaled?
# Mar 19 2002 at 4:14 AM Rating: Decent
Anyone think Shining armor is the way to go? What makes Scaled better than Shining?

Yar, and the point is that one is Allied CoV faction, the other is Kael. You can't have both at the same time, and even tho you can do one and the other, its gets nasty, and alot of guilds would change like maybe over the coarse of a year but nobody wants to sit and farm for faction. Basically your stuck with one, I think Scaled better for most things, its more practical, and has more stats with a few less AC and in some cases (like this) less HP. The BP is a bad example, but its basically Stats for HP.. and half the time you don't really get to decide anyways =)
RE: Shining or Scaled?
# Nov 05 2002 at 2:12 PM Rating: Decent
It is a matter of preference. there are 2 or 3 pieces i would like of shining, but scaled has a higher average of resists, which is what did it for me.
Giants
# Nov 27 2001 at 8:27 AM Rating: Decent
Do you have to kill giants to get good faction with the dragons....please tell me
RE: Giants
# Dec 01 2001 at 12:55 PM Rating: Decent
Most do, killing the giants in the arena in Kael Drakkel is one of the fastest ways to get dragon faction.
Unadorned Plate

Where does the unadorned breastplate come from? And all of the unadorned plate for the SS pally quests?
RE: Unadorned Plate
# Nov 05 2002 at 2:28 PM Rating: Decent
Unadorned Plate drops in the East Wing in Temple of Veeshan and can be used by Bards, Clerics, Paladins, Shadowknights and warrior's

Unadorned armor (as well as the rest of the pieces for the Skyshrine armor quests) drops in the Hall of Testing in the Temple of Veeshan. You need to be ally with Claws of Veeshan to get the quests.
acuaul ac and all
# Apr 25 2001 at 2:47 PM Rating: Default
Actually the total ac gained from wearing this bp and having the effect up would be + 105 to + 115 AC not bad at all .How you figure this paladins get (ac of the item x 1.5) + the buff.

RE: Scaled?
# Aug 07 2002 at 11:22 PM Rating: Decent
Why CANT you wear armor with scales in it. Suppose you kill an iksar and fashion a piece of armor out of its scales. Scales are tough, that is why iksars get an AC bonus. Also, then why ban people wear Dragonscale armor. Because people make armor out of dragon scales....
RE: Scaled?
# Jun 20 2001 at 12:25 AM Rating: Default
Maybe it's an armor made of scales thus wearing it makes you a scaled Knight... DOH!

The term Scaled
# Apr 25 2001 at 10:22 AM Rating: Default
If you follow your armors of Midieval times, some of the them were made out of scaled mail. Thus the use of scaled in the Scaled Knight's Breastplate.

nice

Shield of Words is actually a decent AC buff. The cleric's L57 BoF (equivalent) adds only a little more AC. Actually a decent buff to put on the BP. Will be nice to see some of our pally's in them ;)
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 29 2001 at 11:39 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) REcently killed a lvl 33 monk with tis buff... well i didint kill him, but i defeated him, then after he said he had a shield of words and i still beat him. I love being a rogue!
very nice

Thanks VI, :)...too bad it will be years before I see Skyshrine (if I ever do), but my chin is up! Unless Murphy curses me again, I will make it someday.
Hmmm
# Apr 23 2001 at 11:53 PM Rating: Default
So when triggered this is really 80 something ac? Spoiled pallys that no one wants to group with. LOL
RE: Hmmm
# May 16 2001 at 4:51 PM Rating: Default
At least half of those that get this BP can already cast that spell. Thus it's just a manafree version of it. And even if we couldn't, we get AoF at like 51, which is only slightly worse. And that's where your argument on a 80ac bp falls.

I think it's a 30 or 40ish Cleric/Pally AC and HP buff
RE: *whistle*
# Apr 23 2001 at 5:56 PM Rating: Good
Shield of Words is a level 49 cleric buff. Gives around 32 AC.
Paladins get this spell at level 60.
