the Idea about true names and how they can control you is also a big feature in the Earthsea Quartet also, so this is probably less of something from one specific source and just something from general fantasy lore.

If anyone has read the Death Gate cycle, and knows about the Sartans and their true names, one will realize the idea for this spell is taken directly from that :P

You didn't really stop to think about the Death Gate cycle's sources, did you? They didn't come up with that idea on their own, it's deep-seeded in mythology.
