Very much active. My 65 clr-alt received the conquest achievement once I turned in all fourteen tomes.

Same thing with the Assistant Researcher's Symbol from the "Discord Skin Samples" questline.

We cleared Tacvi South over the previous 2 days and North tonight. I got the loots of everything, so far but just now I go to get Rashere's remains and it isn't Rashere's remains. It is Valhara's which was what was on the south side yesterday where it is marked as spawning on the map. What's up with that?

The title of your post answered your own question.

Some of the Remains are static spawns; some aren't, and shuffle between each others' spawn points.

Best way to do it is, clear the whole zone, *without* attacking any of the Remains on the way...then, once you've pinpointed the ones you need, go back and kill the Remain(s) and loot what you need.

With the permission of the raid, of course.

Remember: someone may want/need what's on the Remains, so do NOT attack them as you go, unless YOU are the one needing it!

So far I've looted 13 of the 14 books... We clear Tacvi in one night but the person that got the loot rights before me was missing one book.

Reading the text on this quest, it doesn't ask you to do something with all 14 books.

Can you do this with less as long as you have all of the named books that they reference?

We loot them as we go and haven't had any lock out problems. We have encountered hostile creatures till we have killed the named. If that takes to long the remains can expire.

Last week my guild beat Tunat and I won the loot rights on the zone wide remains drops. I looted the 3 in the Tunat room but as I ran around the zone ALL of the others were gone, including ones in the NorthWest that were still guarded by one of the hall mobs. Is there a timer on looting these? When we beat Tunat someone looked at the drops and posted to raid chat, then it was easily 15 minutes or more as people were rezzed and loots decided before I was awarded the remains drops. When we entered the zone we passed all of the remains on the way to Tunat and they were still on track as we entered phase 2 of Tunat fight. By on track I mean that I could see5 or 6 blank lines in tracking window since this is how the remains show.

Anyway, just curious about this for future reference.

Remains have a 30 minute timer. Same as most corpses nowadays. This is if they were opened but not looted while moving through Tacvi.

They repop as fast as timers in Tacvi on named mobs, and the trash are on the same repop. So if you take multiple days to clear Tacvi, and they were looted on those days before as well...

Also keep in mind, these are chests. they are destructible. All it takes is a ranger doing melee using F8 to target and hitting the bone pile by accident to start teh corpse timer.

This is what we've found. The Remains are spawned along with the main room mobs, as are the hallway guardians. So once a main room mob is down it's hallway mob and associated remains will not respawn. We have basicly been doing Tacvi on 2 days, Day one we clear the goat, 1 of the snakes and her Zun's. The next day we take the other snake, Zuns and Tunat. The last few times we did the goat and both snakes, leaving the zuns for the 2nd day. The Remains in the hallways leading to the Zuns are the ones that would be missing on the 2nd day since they are spawned in association with the snake. So keep this in mind if you don't clear Tacvi in one go.

You need to open/kill the corpse of each adventurer and loot the writings. The corpses are spread around Tacvi; some random some set, with Madoc being under Tunat's feet.

I do not believe that you can't open the doors while the Mastruq near them is alive and also I don't think you can 'open' the corpses if a name near it has agro. So, I don't think it's soloable.

Switching in and out is much easier now with the new Bandolier feature..but still rarely see a ranger without his bow.

haha, I -was- going to rag on Komzur, but I see that Talonius has that covered.

I see that you sig is 53 pally kom...around high end luclin (ssra / VT) and pretty much all PoP prior to time raiding, you are SEMI-correct. Bow dps is generally better than weopons. Also it allows them to easily avoid some short range AE's. But after that, especially w/ epic 1.5 (not even counting 2.0), melee dps > bow dps.

And Tal is right, if u ranjah and get aggro in..lets say uqua..PWNED! ded ranja (not to mention a few adds if you are familiar w/ the hell hole that is uqua)

What is this "Bow dly = 1" that is totally not right. you are adding haste incorrectly or something, not really sure WHAT you are doing. but...like 45% haste on item + i dunno...65% chanter haste does NOT = 110% haste.

Also I'm pretty sure that rangers get innate melee crits as well as bow (not 100% on that)

bottom line is... dodge 8% = uber

TBH at this point in the game every ranger in my guild can out dps there bow through melee easily. our rangers only use there bow if there too lazy to run up to something or dont want to take ripostes/die to enrage or get cought up in a possible aggro shuffle. i dont see why a ranger would not try to get this item especially since most people dont feel like screweing with a quest and most of the pieces rot or go for little dkp if your guild uses a raid point system

Seems like a major waste of time for a ranger to do this...
Why couldn't it be also a Secondary?? A ranger would NEVER give up his range slot.

Take away a ranger's bow and you have a warrior with crappy AC and no HPs... Big whoopie!

Boofreakinhoo. Play a monk some time, where you're constantly swapping between throwies and your range item, unless you have a rare-as-hell Ton Po pouch from RZ in Time.

I'd kill to have a bow-esque item with decent stats I could equip in range and leave my ammo in the ammo slot, instead of my range slot.

Because creating two hotkeys with an inventory slot and your range slot, and swapping in your bow when you want to use it, is way too much trouble....

Why not? Any ranger doing this quest will have either the Time bow or this bow Bow of the Whispering Wind. Frankly, Rangers at this end of the game do more DPS with their melee weapons.

Ranger Melee DpS vs. Ranger Bow Crit's;

Experiment Haste Group: Enchanter Haste stacks with Item Haste = melee delay 1 (It can go below 10, but graphics will only go as fast as 10) Quiver Haste stacks with Item haste stacks with Enchanter Haste = Bow delay 1. Unless your melee does more damage than your bow, and you always have enchanter's around to haste you, the Bow is the better bargain.

Experiment Kite Solo: Yeah, Kiting with melee / Damage Shield on a Ranger... Sounds fishy, especially when you can shoot a bow all the way accross Norrath. Maybe you ran out of arrows? Good planning (Since Kiting is often unintentional and randomly occurs? hehe)

Experiment Raid Group: Rangers crit with bows, not with melee, and melee gets riposted, so said melee ranger becomes a hinderence to any raid group cleric by getting hurt. If you are a Ranger, use a Bow and not the Book!

So let's just say I concur with this item being useless to a Ranja, but if you ever become so unlucky as to be engaged in melee with a Ranger (or a Rogue for that matter) and you happen to have this item, might as well use it. DoN has added the handy equipment belt anyhow, which saves a few dragon droppings.. err.. I mean Drag'n Drops. hehe

haste does not make weapon or bow delay go lower than 9. ever. graphics may go to 10 but delay has never gone to 1

Effective Delay may not get down to 1, but it most certainly CAN go below 9. The resolution of the log files is 1 second, but parse it and see how many doubles, triples, and possibly QUAD attacks you get with max haste and max quiver haste.

Its unlikely a rng would quest this item. But, having that being said, Koz's arguements dont really add up.

Experiment haste group: By the time you get to Tacvi, you, as a rng, will have looted a Rotglint and likely have TBotH or similar. Check any Rng forums and most will say that rng dsp is from melee, not bow.

Experiment kite solo: Dunno what you mean by kiting with melee/ds. Before you can dream of getting here to do the quest, EQ/AM3 will be finished ages ago, therefore no running out of arrows. As a side note, kiting solo AND getting reasonable exp out of it would require you kiting Vxed or PoS frog's which no ranger can tank.

Experimental raid group: Rangers get crits with bows, not melee(?). Erm innately, thats true, but again by the time you get here i promise you that all members of your guild will have 200 aa minimum. Rangers being a Dps class need ferocity aa's as much as rogues. for 2 minutes out of the hour a ranger dps will 'usually' be above a rogue's, if they pop TS, gear pending. At this point of the game ill be dead instantly if im actually able to pull aggro of the MT during a raid, therefore being no hinderance to any Clr because i bet i wont be getting a rez.

Jaradis is correct. I know people who finished the 14 book quest and this item was the reward.

I'm not surprised that the easier samples rot. They're trivial to obtain compared to the last ones.
