Yea just wondering because I have read through and nobody has thought of the ssra item "crystaline serpent eye" which has a self cast DS... my SK has it and that effect stacks with all DS that I have seen but I haven't seen the coldain rings DS... so I was wondering if it will stack with that also?
# Jan 11 2005 at 9:29 PM Rating: Decent
Just want to reinstate the ranger spells Call of the Earth and Guardian of the Earth overwrites this ring's effect.
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 30 2003 at 5:11 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Considering what lvl you would need to be to get this, not to mention the time taken, is it worth it?
RE: Worth it?
# Jun 16 2004 at 6:48 PM Rating: Default
Well, in case you didnt know... you can skip the earlier portions of this quest and go right to the 8th ring. It is solo-able by a 65 druid and you can sell the MQ... So, is it worth it? Hells yeah it is, insta-click DS. The 9th and 10th require more than one person to complete.
RE: Worth it?
# Mar 01 2004 at 12:06 AM Rating: Default
Wayyyy worth it - I'm on a pvp server and these stats on 10th are PWN for pvp (regen attack and ds) - Plus insta click. wowow. need those for those ppl who walk up and start dispelling!
RE: Worth it?
# Oct 13 2003 at 3:08 AM Rating: Good
This also makes quite the handy insta-click item in case you don't have one. I'm a druid who's recently finished his 8th shawl and I'm looking at doing up to the 8th ring just to have an insta click item.
RE: Worth it?
# Oct 21 2003 at 10:59 AM Rating: Decent
Good for you Petros...I think people are missing the boat on this one. Insta-clicky > all.
RE: Worth it?
# Jan 27 2004 at 1:55 PM Rating: Default
+ it's a DS and it stacks with most of the avaible DS (Banshee Aura, chardok ring clic, ...)

Well, considering that this is an intermediate reawrd, and there are two more rings, I'd say yeah its worth it. Take a look at the 10th ring, before you write this off as not good.

That would be like looking at the 6th prayer shawl, and pointing out that its not worth the reward. Heck I didn't start wearing mine until I got the seventh shawl.
stacking issues

as far as stacking goes, this effect stacks with the arms from ragefire... so 8 from ring + 9 from arms=17... plus MOR = a cleric with a 32pt damage shield

RE: stacking issues
# May 29 2003 at 9:02 AM Rating: Decent
Got mine last night, it does not stack with potion DS, Khilva's Skin of Flame ( 32pt DS at level 63).

Got mine today with the help of a 56 Druid.

Doesn't stack with Call of Earth, Call of Rathe, which is a shame. It does stack with Warders Protection though.

My understanding of stacking DS after testing a few different ones is that there are basically two lines. I've used DS potion, this ring, Blazing vambracers and fiery might for myself as well as druid, mage and wizzy DS put on me in combos with this stuff. I'll call them A and B lines for simplicty.
A - Coldain ring, Fiery might, Shamy potion, Wizzy DS.
B - Blazing vambracers, druid/(ranger?) thorns and mage DS (not so sure on the laste one).

Fiery might has regen on it and gets overwriten by shamy regen (so I switch to the coldain). Considering this am I simplifying things to much into two basic lines? Are all the DS clickys/spells really more of a convaluted web of this overwrites that and that overwrites this and so on till you hurt your brain and have to draw it all out?

There are 5 kinds of damage shields that stack.

1) big druid/mage shield
2) Ranger CoE / Potion / Coldain ring shield
3) RNG/DRU self buff like Bramblecoat
4) Some Time+ gear clickies
5) Worn DS - capped at 15.

My warrior is now at 62 self buffed without resorting to potions or other charged items like Chardok ring.
Would be 71 without the stupidly low cap on worn DS. =/

move wizzy DS into group B... it stacks with coldain ring, but i've seen it overwritten by mage ds

I have to say, the fact that this thing is a ring, and most rings are 0.1 weight, and on top of that its a VELIUM ring, the lightest metal in the game. I find it interesting that it weighs more than a Velium Battle Axe....granted its a Velium Coldain Insignia Ring, which has nothing to do with velium weopons, i would think they would follow the same general concept that velium is light not heavy, and rings are generally almost weightless. Perhaps it is some kind of an attempt to make it less appealing to monks. *shrug* Just a thought.

Completed this tonight with a group of three using the techniques posted on So far, I haven't had any problems stacking it with SK self-only DSs (cloak of the ahkeva, banshee aura) or druid DSs. The damage adds up quite nicely. I haven't tried it with call of earth, but that spell is notorious for not stacking with other spells and I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't work.

It stacks with most everything, other than Call of Earth.

#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 31 2001 at 4:51 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Sadly, it DOES not stack with ANYTHING. Call of Earth DOES not stack with it..very lame.

The 8th ring does not have ANY regen effects. The only effect it has is the shield of the 8th, an 8pt dmg shield that stacks with anything.

I need to know if the regen effect of the ring stack with the regen series spell. My main is a shaman. For shaman hp regen is also a mana regen. With 8 to 10 hp per tick and with the chloroblast that give a 10hp per tick that give a permanent clarity for shaman!.... and surely the Clarity line spell gona stack

Keep the blood of your enemy. If you are out of booze you gona need it

10th ring?

i have heard many people talking about a 9th and 10th ring, but i didn't see them when i looked up the quest...

what are they and what are the effects?
RE: 10th ring?
# Aug 17 2001 at 3:42 PM Rating: Decent
I have seen people doing the 10th ring quest, you talk to someone in GD, and then hundreds of coldain and giants spawn, you have to help the coldain obviously, there is a seneschal(forget his name), that guards the entrance to Thurg. If the giants kill him, they raid Thurg and somewhere between 2 hours and 4 hours after they enter Thurg, the GMs will despawn. If you kill all the giants you will get the 10th ring. I believe the name is Ring of Dain Frostreaver the VI
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 03 2001 at 12:13 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I made the blanket for the 1st part of the quest with a 53 tailoring the other day and it was trivial to me, just a heads up.

Stackability Issues

Last I have heard, due to current limitations the right-clickable buff from the 8-10th rings do not stack with either the Monk Epic effect or each other. =(
Has anyone with these tested this to verify? They souldn sweet, but before I go through the efforts involved and invest my guild's time in this it would be good to know.

Talisen got his 10th ring 2 nights ago with help from his guild (Vis Maior), a group from my guild and a few others.

The giants dropped the Lance, the mask, the necklace, and not sure what else, had to camp. Each item is nice.

Most of the weapons dropped during the war are pretty lame junk but the Priests drop a Velium War Maul (9dmg, 24del, 0.5, all but casters). It's got a cool 2-hander sledgehammer visual but is a 1-hander. Would be nice to see a monk dual-wielded sledgehammers lol.

The war is amazing fun and takes some serious planning.

Ok the FINAL Ring is sweet. they dont have it posted yet. But it has 10ac 10str 100hp 10sv magic. and the Right click effect is Bless of the Dain. Which is 10atck buff 10Dmg sheild and 10hp Per tick from what i have been told by Kambing 60 Monk on Brell server who has one. Just a quick Congrats to Verant or wheover that put this quest together. its well thought out and lotsa fun it seems w/ the battles and all. Good luck.

There is a 10th ring too, Dunno details but the quest Ends with 4 hours of waves of 50+ giants... they come every 10 minutes or so, and at the end the big Goomba spawns, he is lev 65 flurries for 400.... the giants that are spawned drop some nice stuff, but 50+ giants are unmezzable and come about 20 at a time. The 10th ring is ac10 +10 str +10 MR +10 Dmg Shield and has Regen on it..... It's well worth 4 hours of my time =p.
RE: 10th Ring
# Jun 05 2001 at 9:55 PM Rating: Decent
From what I have read, your description of the end fight is pretty near accurate.

The stats on the final ring are 10ac 10str 10sta 100hp, effect has 10atk 10ds and 10regen.

Cheers to VI on a very interesting quest, with a reward WELL worth the effort

#Anonymous, Posted: May 17 2001 at 2:23 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) It's an 8 pt dmg shield, +8 to attack, and an 8 pt / tick regen
...and a 10th ring as well.

Probably safe to assume that there will be 10 Shawls for caster's too. If they follow the same trend, I'll be interested in seeing the effect on the 8th shawl.

There are items that need to be handed to the Dorfs you need the heads of. Maybe the Head won't drop unless they are handed the note or item that is supposed to be handed to them first.

This thing has everything I ever wanted in a ring. Except it doesn't summon throwing daggers, oh wait, my bracer does that for me already :P

Even if I was a monk I'd make room for this ring somehow, 1 weight is alot for monk but still str, saves, ac, and damage shield, most monks end up tanking alot anyway so a good ring for them if they can afford the weight.
