it does seem to drop common from any CWG model with an "X" in its name, i got both mine of an XC and a CX

didnt see it drop off any of the other models and i killed quite a few before reading the posts here saying hunt X's ... also killed a few gnome miners thinking "hey, they mine ore right?" ... no such luck

killed a few Gnome minors too just cuz they were a buncha little whiny brats begging for candy.

I farmed 8 of these over the past two days. Needed 7 for a suit of Ro armor and 1 for Ivy Etched. 7/8 dropped off clockworks with an X in their name. I would say the drop rate is about 1/7 on the X types. The last one I looted was off an MB. During this process I saw Gabbie twice and I didn't realize it but the PH for the EXG actually roams the tunnel infront of the keep. I thought it was the roamer inside the keep. Camping the named helps pass the time. Fire elemental room in the north part of the zone is the best place to camp as 4-5 X's spawn in that room

Ran through this zone with my 62 Sk trying to loot for my epic 1.0

First time I got terrible lost but killed a bunch of gnome clockworks, but no melatite. The second time I ran through I was lucky enough to get lost in a castle like area loc -243.66, -1106.02, 50.83 I killed two xc models and it dropped both times. Then on my way out got another off a mb model. Figures, lol. :D

I hated fighting in the tunnels cause I had to play first person, but the mobs were cake (grey). The faction was all a bad hit, but I'm an evil villain and don't care about the gnomes anyways. I tried to sell the extra melatite and they only wanted to give me very little for it. So figured I'd dump it in the bank and save it for another sk. Hope this helps, the fine steel stuff was nice loot.

I was in Sol A and I tryed tracking the MC and MB's. I came across the CWG XC and twice he dropped Malatite. It was one right after the other that that happened on. Try hunting the XC's and se what you come up with.

what is loc of best place to camp the cwa models ma, mb, and mc??
Fairly Extensive Melatite Drop Info
# Oct 09 2001 at 5:22 AM Rating: Excellent
I camped 15 bars of melatite for my guild. Being a Dark Elf Shadowknight, the faction hits aren't an issue. Level 42 SK, I would say fairly well equipped for my level. >;-)

Faction hits from the CWGs were (all negative)...
-Miners Guild 628 (dorfs in Kaladim)
-Merchants of Ak'Anon (gnomes in Akanon)
-King Ak'Anon (gnomes in Akanon)
-Gemchoppers (gnomes in Akanon)
-Solusek Mining Co (gnomes in Sol A )

I'm gonna lump all the mobs together, even though they are varying levels. Low green (no xp) to high blue (good xp). Max hits ranged from 48-66, while I was keeping track. HPs ranged from about 900 to 1200. I was using 110 and 140pt dots, so it's hard to say exact numbers. The "Cs" - XC, MC, CC - cast a cold based DD (about 50pts without decent resistance, hit me for 10-20 with resist gear and resist cold buff). The "Bs" - XB, MB, CB - cast a HUGE knockback spell of trivial damage (5-10, magic based, got this down to about 3-6 with a resist magic buff). The SX is a spider. The X_ bots are the hardest, the C_ bots are the easiest. EXG popped two times off the wandering spawn otherwise it was a spider bot, (which also only spawns on the wanderer, as far as I can tell) a C_ bot or a M_ bot, usually of the "B" type. You NEED to move to the front of the little "castle" and camp there. The three spawns before the bridge are NOT sufficient for camping because of the 15-18 minute respawn time.

99 spawns to get 15 bars. that's 1/6.6 spawns. Not that rare, but it doesn't seem that way. heh. I also looted two dufrenite during my time there, I believe from Model MAs, but I didn't realize they were "special" so I just sold them in Neriak (either 10p or 19p each, heh). Made just under 500p over these 99 kills. Coin loot ranged from 0p0g0s4c to 3p6g6s10c per corpse while I kept track, the C_ bots usually dropping much more money than the harder versions. Almost all the versions of CWGs drop fine steel weapons, I assume the spiders do NOT, but with only two kills I can't prove that.

Name (# of melatite dropped) - notable loot

2xEXG (0) - 2 Charred Guardian Shields.
2xSX (0) - Small and Large Power Sources.
36xMA (0) - nothin special (possibly Dufrenite)
9xMB (3) - Broken/Complete Force Modules.
8xMC (4) - Broken/Complete Frost Modules.
28xCA (0) - nothin special
3xCB (2) - Broken/Complete Force Modules.
3xCC (1) - Broken/Complete Frost Modules.
3xCX (2) - clockwork oil stout
3xXA (0) - nothin special
1xXB (0) - assuming Broken/Complete Force Modules.
1xXC (1) - assuming Broken/Complete Frost Modules.

So according to my results, I would feel secure in saying that melatite drops from "B" and "C" type mobs (the ones that cast). I would assume that they all (all 6 versions) have the same chance of dropping melatite, but given such a small sample size I wouldn't want to guess at a % chance. I seriously doubt killing the "A" types will ever get you melatite, same with the spider or EXG.

For the longest time I was furious with how difficult the Darkforge quests were, I /salute and pity you Paladins for the HORRIBLE amount of work you have to go through for your quests. They need to make melatite drop off an evil type mob in an evil zone, like say buff up the stone guardians in Neriak and have THOSE drop it, yes?

I hope this information is of some use. Until next we meet. Death before Dishonour.

Sol A and Melatite
# Mar 22 2001 at 6:53 PM Rating: Decent
Melatite drops off CWG Clockwork Gnomebots models MA, MB, and MC. The drop frequency is rumored to be much better off MB and MC.

I took on one MB and he used a 'Force Blowback' that was outrageously rude. Luckily I had a wall behind me to stop against or it could've proved deadly. Solusek's Eye has lava in many places and falling in can prove fatal unless you can TP or Gate all while taking guaranteed damage of about 40 points every tick. Climbing out of the lava is just not possible in some locations and may require a GM /petition to get your corpse back. All this combined with that 'Force Blowback' and you got one mean and nasty situation.

Yes, killing gnomes and gnomebots will result in a loss of faction with the Ak'Anon gnomes. About the only decent part about gathering the melatite will be looting the gnomes. To put it bluntly, they are rich. Seriously rich compared to anything on Antonica prior to level 35. Looting 10pp worth of items and coin off each gnome (but not gnomebot) is probably not an exaggeration.

For those people that are willing to cough up some cash to buy the melatite, one possible source is the gnome merchant deep in the gnome territory. Players that are looking to drop the 5 pound bricks will often sell them to the merchant. One word of caution; bring loads of cash. The gnomes are rather protective of this metal and, to an "apprehensive" paladin with 87 charisma, wanted roughly 125pp for each piece.

I spent well over 40 hours at the Solusek's Eye front entrance as well. I was frustrated and angry to find out I had to get deep into the dungeon to find the monsters that dropped melatite. Between all the goblins at the front entrance, the "lava pits of death" awaiting the careless traveler, and the faction loss for killing other members of a 'good' race, obtaining the melatite is perhaps as difficult as killing any sand giant.

Since the gnomes are fairly deep into Sol A, the solo paladin is required to run a "gauntlet of death" to simply get to them. Melatite is not NO DROP, but the funny thing is, very few people take on the gnomes either so that buying it proves just as impossible as if it were NO DROP.

I have spent dozens of hours in Sol A trying to auction to buy the melatite. I didn't even get one response to my auctions. Not one. "/auction WTB melatite. Paying well." Is this the kind of auction that discourages people from asking "paying how well?" Despite this open ended auction, I received zero responses. Read my lips... zero... auctioning consistently for over 10 hours inside the Sol A zone... zero responses.

Ok. So I try and go into Sol A and get the melatite on my own. A dozen goblins (level 20-28)along the path, all of which agro on everyone (regardless of level), will beat back the solo paladin before he even gets to see a gnome. I saw these goblins agro on a level 60 warrior. True, they were nothing but a nuisance to him, but they did agro. Kinda clues you in on the nature of the environment.

Out of sheer luck I wandered by a level 40 halfling warrior that was hunting the gnomes for experience. I asked him if he had any melatite and he just happened to have 2 bricks. I needed a total of 6 at the time and he promised to sell me any he looted. More than 8 hours of online time later he managed to loot all the bricks I needed.

Melatite: rare to very rare drop off gnomebots.

As an Iksar Monk, thoroughly hated by the Gnomes and all their friends, and they having nothing I could possibly want in their clockwork city, I set to with a will and destroyed many clockworks and their pocket-sized creators, bringing Cazic-Thule's Gift of Pain to them. Between levels 40 and 43, I obtained about a dozen Charred Guardian Shields, a Charred Guardian Breastplate, several Dufrenite, and large quantities of Melatite. I have duped a few young softskins into holding onto a few backpacs full of this for me for sale to conscience-stricken Paladins, but now I simply destroy them.

(OOC translation: The Solusek Mining Company Gnomes are indeed extremely wealthy if you are also prepared to destroy your factions in Ak'Anon and with the Kaladim Rogues' Guild -- this latter can be risky since they are just outside the Bank in North Kaladim. Melatite is almost worthless to Vendors, so I got out a couple of BP worth to store on a mule, and am getting no more unless I can actually sell the stuff).

A paladin was murdering gnomes?!? What the @#$% kind of paladin are you???

Then again, the so-called "Knights of Truth" paladins in N. Freeport are more than happy to ruthlessly murder peaceful visitors to their fair city, so maybe I shouldn't expect PC paladins to be any better.

I can't help but shake my head when I think that the supposedly corrupt Freeport Militia patrols the Commonlands and protects travellers from marauding Kodiaks and the occasional Griffin, while the supposedly good Knights of Truth hide behind their wall and murder innocent visitors based on where they were born or what they look like.

ROFL! Rock on little dude!
I know where it is dropped
# Feb 16 2001 at 11:32 AM Rating: Default
It is dropped off some Clockworks in SolEye (Sol A). It is a rare drop I believe. The reason that the merchant sometimes have it is because people have sold it to him. I would camp the model EXG and other higher level models for the Melatite.

I have also purchased thin in East Commons. I got lucky because the person was selling it for 50pp each. It's asking price can be 2 or 3 times that.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 16 2001 at 9:44 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Does anyone know where this can be found? None of the websights seem to provide any information on its whereabouts? I have heard that it can be bought off of gnomes in sol's eye.
