There was a post in here somewhere that also discussed using a ranger to tank the mob. So, I got a 65 Ranger for a tank, 2-65 clerics, 2-59+ druids, and 2-65 Mages, me (59 necro at the time)and a 62 necro and a 65 wizzie. The fight lasted about 4 mins, everyone but the 2 necros died. Everyone would have lived but someone slipped in the heal chain, and didn't get a heal off on ranger in time. Ranger basically "rampage tanked" the mob, if my understanding of rampage tanking is correct. I'm sure someone else could explain that strategy better then me, but that is how I got my shawl.
Anyway, I love this shawl, I quit doing the Prayer Shawl quest once I got this. I don't think I'll be using any other shoulder item anytime soon. AE4 is awesome! Especially, when I solo (aggro kiting) in Tactics, when my total mana cost for 1 round of DoTs is 2362, a chance of saving 590 mana because of AE4 helps alot. This little item made it possible for me to solo in Tactics before getting SCM3.
Fabled Undertow was soloable prior to the patch that tweaked the fables and their drops and buffed up their level and regen. The key to soloing undertow was his regen. Unlike PoP mobs that regen back to full health when you loose aggro, fabled undertow's regen was extremely slow.(I remember once I tried to kill fable undertow, I died, came back and he had only regened around 5%) This coulped with the fact that he tries to cast nukes that could easily be resisted, due to his low level, made him soloable.
Soloing him as a necro is simple. Get a pet up and clear all the trash. Now sic the pet on undertow, and try get off as many dots as you can before undertow kills your pet.(This is where the fact that he cast spells comes in handy, giving you enough time to load dots on him while he tries to nuke your pet, instead of your pet being ripped apart by his melee). Now FD and wait to your dots to wear off, and untill you loose aggro. Undertow's health should be down a bit. Now repeat the process untill Undertows dead, each time taking a little more off of him.
Soloing him did take a while for me, and cost me a few deaths, but in the end I think it was worth it=)
This mob is not a cleric, he's a wizard. Hits for 1333 max. He tried casting Conflagration and Rend on me. Never healed himself. Soloed by 65 necro after learning a few tricks about him.
Would be very interested to know what sorts of "tricks" allowed you to solo him. I took him down. But solo was a definate no go. I won't claim to be the absolute top of all necro solohood. But I'm no slouch.
Did you actually manage this without an exploit? If so, please share. Would be great to learn of what I've been missing.
BTW, mob enrages but saw no flurry or ramp, and he is definately a wizzy. The confusion of thinking he was cleric most likely comes from the other sea horses in the area who would very gladly CH him if you didn't clear them first.
