this quest is confusing. you essentially give her parts, that seem to make a bow. Wood, spider silk, A cog and dwarven wire? then shes like 'great, here is a staff, go make a bow....' with MORE dwarven wire, ANOTHER cog this staff (in lieu of the treant wood) and a planing tool. im sorry what? they write it off as if you are giving them supplies but I cant help but think originally the developers had her just hand you a bow. And the shoehorned in fletching... you can do this at level 8, what level 8 has 135 fletching? Its expensive as well even making mostly arrows adds up. Whats the cap? 300? lol. The planing tool costs 10p. It seems like an after thought ... I love the idea of making me one but it should be either no fail or, return the parts .it also means you essentially need 4 nuts for 4 tonics and 2 wires... nearly everything is doubled. It seriously seems like a booboo.

I have gathered all the materials and placed them in my planar fletching kit. I press the cobine button and nothing happens. I get no error message, no failure message, nothing. Do I need to be a Tunare worshiper? Traders corner says nothing about that anywhere.

Thanks in advance,

It is a 235 trivial for fletching so you need to work it up. I was able to make it at 212.

Making your Trueshot Longbow used to be something to really be proud of, primarily due to the high trivial on the final combine. Having one meant that you were an awesome fletcher or that you got extremely lucky on the final combine if your skill wasn't high enough. I remember running around doing this quest 7 or 8 times before finally getting the final combine to work because I was too lazy to work up my fletching skill. Unfortunately, I was never able to do Rain Caller because by the time I was able to get into a group to do it there were already much better bows available and nobody was doing old world content anymore so it seemed like a waste of time.

I have tried this quest 20+ time . The last 10 times were with a lvl 17 @ 130+ fletching. All I ever get is my plane back. Any thoughts ??? I have read the posts over and over cannot find anything Im doing wrong. ???

I think your trivial level is way to low..being 100 points plus below almost quarantees failure every time..find someone with Tunare diety and fletching over 200, the farther over the better..or skill up your own fletching to that level by making arrows

The Jyle Windshot you are talking to is a fake. The tunic he wants is the newbie tunic you get when you hand your note to the guildmaster. The treant wood he gives is still good, though. I don't know where the real Jyle Windshot is anymore since they redesigned Freeport. He used to be on the West side in the Hogcallers Inn I think and he wanted a small lantern in exchange. I don't like the new Freeport, so I don't go there. you'll have to search for him on your own.

he still is in west side..
since I no longer have my tunic, I couldn't give it to the one on east side.. and went looking in here for a way to still do the quest.. found notes about west side, and there he was, still there, and the dwarf downstairs still loves muffins. lol

Materials won't combine!
# Feb 24 2004 at 6:46 PM Rating: Decent
I have tried unsuccessfully to combine the four ingredients in the Material Pack. I've read through all the messages and am convinced I have the correct four materials.

When I press the Combine button nothing happens! I don't get and error message, just nothing.

I'm using the Material Pack, have the correct materials, haven't stacked anything, etc.

Any ideas?

Bug seems to be fixed.

I successfully combined and with a Fletching of 138 created my Trueshot on my first attempt!

It's a game issue. Quest containers are currently bugged. Not just for this one, but for many, many quests involving combines.

ok being that im a gnome might help this out. if youve never been to steamfont you might need to ask but go to the windmills anyways, they re on a trail you cant miss em. north from the eastern most windmill is my favorite hunting field and there are clockworks out the yingyang, ive gotten 8 microservos there in one night before. my fletching is only at 30 but with as many microservos as ive gotten i might have a chance!

Hmm, EQTraders says the trivial on this is 135. I had two successes and two failures so far at 189 fletching.

And yes, getting more micro servos is a pain in the butt :)

Edit: Oops just realised that EQTraders actually gives the triv at 235. Must buy some glasses! :)

One good thing about this insane trivial is that gives a much cheaper way to learn fletching after 215 than doing some REALLY EXPENSIVE combines.

Really... it does.. o.O I'm serious..

I decided to do the Trueshot quest but ran into a problem. I gave the laterns to Jyle Windshot he just kept them and told me I wasn't an enemy of Faydark Champions but I wasn't a friend either. I conned indifferent to him. I did some checking and found I could raise my faction with them by doing a muffin quest that was in West Freeport. Pinia Brownloe is by the Theatre in the same zone so I bought 10 stacks of muffins and gave them in groups of 4 to Panda Flintside. He is the dwarf at the end of the hall that Jyle room is at. 4 or 5 stacks would have been enough but I gave all of them to him anyway and went from indifferent to adminable in less than 30 minutes.

Kill Crushbone orcs until you can't stand the sight of their ugly blue faces and then kill about a hundred more for good measure. You'll have more than enough faction to do this quest, plus the dwarves will love you, besides. Currently my faction with Crushbone Orcs can't possibly be any worse while my Stormguard faction can't get any better. I think Stormguard faction increases more than elf factions because even though I have the best possible faction in Kaladim, my elf factions still are not maxed and I'm an elf, myself. Don't ask me how that worked out. BTW, I got to master in fletching before attempting my Trueshot and failed. :( Faced with the prospect of running all over Norrath and wasting much time gathering components for another try, (I got killed by wandering pirates 4 times while buying kiola nuts on sister isle, I was only level 17 then) I broke down and bought one for 140PP in bazaar and don't regret it a bit. Sometimes you get lucky and see them as low as 100 but 150-200 seems to be the norm with only a few people trying to get more than that. Heck, I even saw a Raincaller for 500 once. All the charges were gone, but for the ratio and the range with the buffs that was still a steal.

How long ago did you do the muffin quest?? That was removed at the same time as the cleansing of the karanas GM event and that was like 1.5-2 years ago or more if I remember correctly.

Pandos is still up and taking muffins on Povar. Faction adjustments are showing, though I handed muffins to him unstacked since one patch reportedly removed the stacking effect. Took 1,500 to get from threateningly to apprehensive.
On the other hand, it took about 7 stacks of Tumpy Tonics for the same Dark Elf rogue of Bristlebane to get to warmly and kindly in North Freeport.
Pandos is an intensive quest, but worth it if you have the time and need the faction. Much faster than killing orcs.

I have a fletching skill of over 150, and at level 30, having tried to make the bow about 7 times, I still am unsuccessfull... I'm now out of the quest items, which sucks... if it weren't for my epic quest, I'd just stick with my runed oak bow...

If you want my opinion on the whole thing, the quest sucks, and it sucks more because we rangers are forced to do it as we need the result for our epic... EQ should really try to make it a simpler matter to make the bow once we have completed the quest
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 04 2002 at 7:56 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) you noob 1) our epic is not a bow would be nice but it's not 2) the triv for it is 235
RE: not so easy
# Nov 12 2002 at 9:47 PM Rating: Excellent
uh, it's not for your epic quest. it's for the raincaller quest, which is just an enchanted upgrade to this bow. your epics are "swiftwind" and "earthcaller", and you start the quest by talking to Telin Darkforest in Burning Woods(Kunark), not Maesyn Trueshot. as far as seven failures, you just got unlucky. i got it second try with a skill of about 160.

I finally made my Trueshot at 12th level with a fletching skill of 155. Per all the wonderful advice on this site, I managed to make it on my 3rd try and have enough for 7 more tries, though I need to offload my initial Trueshot onto an alt for sakekeeping while I try to make others. The best part about this, to my mind, is that after leveling up doing my newbie armor quests (Wood Elf Ranger), except for the darned gaunts, I started to hunt out the micro servos in Steamfont around about high 10th level and made decent experience getting me up to 12th by the time I had a full stack of servos. The other great part about doing this at this level is that I was also hunting plague rats near the Steamfont windmills and the tails on those sell to the windmill merchants for 1 plat 6 gold and there is a fletcher merchant right there. During any down time waiting for desired spawns or just healing/medding I also managed to increase my fletching skill, so I felt like I wasn't really wasting any time at all. After hunting the servos (had the necessary spiderling silks from my newbie hunting days in the bank), I took the boat to Freeport and loaded up with about 15 small lanterns and several stacks of muffins. Went to West Freeport to the second level of Hogcaller's Inn and found Jyle Windshot, handed in my lanterns and got my half stack of wood shards and the wood heart for the Rain Caller upgrade later on. Since he was right in the hallway there as well, I decided to load up Pandos with muffins to increase my elf factions so now I'm warmly with most of the Kelethin folks, have to check Felwithe still, but better prices aren't a bad thing. The apparently hairy part for many at this low a level is getting onto and off of Sister's Isle in OOT, but I admit this was a breeze for me, even without sow. Just runn off the boat, before it comes to a complete stop, just so long as you hit the pier, run into the first hut slightly to the right of center, buy from the merchant immediately left inside. I managed to buy 40 nuts (1 gp 8 sp each) and dash back to the boat with about 10 or 15 seconds to spare, easy. Another thing that is pretty decent is that upon turning in the gathered materials to Maesyn Trueshot for the Treant Bow Staff, I got back between 15 and 18 gp; definitely not shabby. I'll post a followup on further success and failure rates with the rest of my Trueshot materials.

Ok, I managed to finally get back to the rest of my materials and have someone hold my successful Trueshot in order to try crafting another. With Fletching 157 Wis 94 and Dex 104 I attempted 4 more times with 1 success and still have materials for 1 more attempt. So, that is 2 for 8 attempts so far. I did do something quite stupid however and lost 1 attempt worth of materials due to placing the needed materials in the 4 slot bag from Maesyn and handing it back to him before hitting combine. I got the bag back, but all the materials inside went poof; doh!
Another Trueshot made
# Jul 31 2002 at 10:25 AM Rating: Decent
I also just made the trueshot bow, however, I am still somewhat new to the game, and leveled faster than I probably should, since as a newbie I thought leveling is all there was...

Anyhow, at lvl 30, and a fletching skill of 118, I made this bow, but only after about 10 attempts! (That's ALOT of pp gone, and alot of clock work killin!) The missionary was not a problem for me at this level, I nuked his butt. Never ran into the pirate tho. Now, I'm gonna start work on a raincaller. Now to just get a group of lvl45's to help me....

I finally made the Trueshot
# Jul 29 2002 at 9:53 AM Rating: Decent
Finally. I made the Trueshot Longbow this past weekend. And what a task it was to make. The amount of time and plat spent fletching almost makes the bow not worth-while. But making this bow is a 'rite of passage' for all rangers. I could have just bought this bow (it only sells for about 200 plat) but I wanted to make it (ok, I'm stubborn). I think every ranger should do this quest. It's what makes a ranger a ranger. But here's my advice before trying to make the Trueshot. Gather planty of materials. Try and get enough for at least 10 attempts. While gathering all of the components, be wary of the pirate on Erollisi Island and also be wary of the Minotaur Hero and the Kobold Missionary in Steamfont (all 3 killed me at one time or another). Always know where they are. If you like, you may make your first attempt at the Trueshot at fletching skill 100, but do not be disappointed when you end up with nothing. Remember, this is a tough quest and most people do not get the bow until much higher fletching skill. I would suggest waiting until your fletching skill is at least at 150 before making your first attempt. And then, depending on the amount of components that you have, you should try another attempt at every 10 skill levels after 150. I myself tried 1 attempt at 100, 1 attempt at 120, one attempt at 135, one attempt at 150 and failed every time (I made all of these attempst at these levels based on advice from web sites, guild members and other rangers buddies). I decided to go for 2 tries at skill level 165 and on my second try, I made it! I wasn't expecting to make the bow, so I think I may have been rather lucky. In fact, I've heard of some unfortunate rangers not being able to make the Trueshot until they hit level 200. Then again, I've also heard of (probably B.S.) lucky rangers making the Trueshot at level 70. Just be sure to gather planty of components and be very, very patient.

Well the Trueshot Bow becomes trivial at around 205, and with my Fletching skill currently at 203 I still fail maybe 2 out of 10 attempts. But I made my first one at like around 100 or so. I stocked up on parts and said the heck with it, I'm going for it. Hit combine, failed, tried again, failed, then succeeded on my next 4 or 5 attempts.
