This use to be one of the best items back when Eq didn't have PoP.....
People on my server would trade a Centi Ls sometimes (with 500pp-1k pp of course) for one of these. The 10 int was a big boost for the little SK's as well as the 19dmg with 29 dly.

This may not seem pretty uber now, but it was when I started playing =)

is better, at least until it gets nerfed. Paid 50pp for mine, which is insane for a weapon with nearly a 1:1 damage/delay ratio. Nice upgrade for my 23 SK, hits harder than the MoSS and significantly faster too.

Found one for 30PP on Stromm, no less! I can't believe the damage ratio on this thing. 1HB is not a skill that shadowknights normally develop very highly, though, so it will be a while before I am hitting for max damage with it, but after that, LOOK OUT!

This drops fairly frequently in CoM and is SK ONLY... our server is flooded with MoSS usually 10 4sale under 50pp.I say good for us SK's because this is a MUST HAVE weapon. People will tell you to work on all your Weapon skills-- I say use what works and what is an affordable and or effective.Only because your gonna cap out at 200 for a few levels,so why not switch to raise another skill? I have always switched from 1Hs to 1HB and 2H slash (which is our epic). One downside is the graphic looks like a newb mace.

Was in CoM last night getting Shammie epic drops, and in less than 2 hours everyone in the group had one of these. Since they re-vamped the zone these were dropping off Mighty Golems. You can see the golem holding it, and every one we killed had one, so I think it's safe to saw it's a common drop now.

While your frustration is evident your sarcasm is a little over the top. There really are new people out there, who haven't played EQ since it's inception, for which things like a damage bonus are new information. Try being a little more tolerant and patient and you'll find you get more respect from your peers.

As to the damage bonus... Beginning at level 28 you recieve a damage bonus on all your weapons. For 1 handed weapons the damage bonus is based entirely on the characters level. For 2 handed weapons the damage bonus is dependent on the characters level and the weapon delay. There is a detailed listing of damage bonuses per level/weapon delay at LUCY.

I seriously considered starting an SK and was trying to figure which would best suit me, a Necro or SK. Well, I decided to go with a Necro since I had a Wizzy I got tired of playing and could give most of my gear to my Necro. I have since filled up on Flayed Skin armor from KC and have more than my Necro can use. Now all of a sudden I go on a guild raid to CoM to get pieces for my Shammy epic and low and behold the MoSS dropped twice. We had no SKs along and my roll for the first drop was nothing less than laughable, but on the second roll I won the MoSS. So now it looks like I can have my cake and eat it too since I have the beginnings of a decent SK. I realize there is better gear than Flayed Skin but since I have it I might as well use it, right? Anyway, my only dilemma now is on deciding which race to choose to be my SK. Any suggestions on which armor is easier to come by for specific races? Flayed Skin armor can only be used by Humans and Erudites, and although Erudites have the best base int their other attributes leave a lot to be desired. Kinda like being a Gnome warrior. Lol. No offense to one of my guild mates who is just that. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Our objective is to kill and not be killed, so which race would be most beneficial? Should I just choose an Ogre and get it over with? :o)

Personally I like my Gnome Shadow Knight, I agree the AC bonus with iksars is a nice thing to have, as well as the regen ability. However, they have quite the exp penalty and to my knowledge at high lvls that is quite the disadvantage. Even though gnome stats arent the greatest they are slightly better the DE except for the int, mana pool is important but honestly i don't think its that important. As a gnome, my agi is good enough that i never get hit and my stats are about that of a bare ogre sk, which i think isnt bad considering the amount of money i spent on him. Most people agree with me that i make an uber tank except that i am short =/ Imho i think that erudites arent a bad race to play as an sk, because like many have said before me the ability points and armor can easily fix any descrepancies in your stats.
RE: A lot to consider
# Apr 14 2003 at 11:54 AM Rating: Default
i have played both a iksar and de sk and i can tell you race doesn't really matter all that much, its all about personal preference. Any lack of stats you can easily make up with the right gear, and although some races like ogres have certain benefits(unstunable from front) i still maintain you should just chose whichever one you like best..

Iksar make the best and the most powerfull SK in game we dont have supper int but items will help with that and we get the greenmist too witch makes inok curse look like a rusty short sword as far as dmg and del go. And we get the geenmist armor too.

I play an Iksar Sk of the 21st level and am really enjoying it. Easily the best part about playing an Iksar Sk is that because of the Ac bonus that Iksar get, I am able to substitute Ac gear for Stat gear and thusly compensate for my poor starting stats. Sure it's tough for a little while, but the fact that the Iksar have (Arguably) the best 1-20 zones in the game, the Field of Bone for it's plentiful and easy to find spawn areas (No searching for spawn, you've got loads of it sitting right in front of you) and Kurn's Tower for it's awesome EXP. I went from 20 to 21 in an hour and a half at Kurn's. There is also a steady flow of higher level ppl in Kurn's to supply you with buffs and such, usually being there for the IBC, fingers (Monk quest) and bone chips to get into Cabilis/to be used by a Necro. The Iksar also have plenty of good quests. The Curscale Armor quest for newbies, supplying a steady stream of good and free armor to the Dreadscale quests that can be done at level 35 to get Darkforge equivalent armor, with just a little less Ac and a little more Stats, fitting the Iksar perfectly fine. Then there is the Greenmist quest, and although the second one is very aggravating, they will supply you with a nice weapon to use if you have no other.

Yes, the Iksar cannot really hunt or dwell in the Old World, but I prefer to hunt in Velious/Luclin/Kunark anyways, due to the creatures and zones that I belive to be much more interesting. And if you like challenge, then Iksar Sk's are not devoid of that too. Until higher levels with access to the Velious armor Iksar cannot wear platemail. There is still plenty of equipment to bypass that drawback that can be found, but it is still a drawback nonetheless. Iksar Sk's are also some of the least common race/class combinations. Yes, there are a good number more of them than Erudite Sk's and Gnome Warriors, but I cannot truly recall seeing an Iksar Sk (Other than myself) in the Nexus/Bazaar/Shadow Haven.

If you haven't made your character yet, then try an Iksar Sk. They aren't as bad as they are made out to be. And Greenmist isn't too bad in Ssra, too =P.

I personally play an Erudite SK and love it. With some careful armor selection you can definately avoid the problems with Erudite melee'ers, basically STR and STA. I personally recommend Crustacean Shell boots, arms, and (2) bracers. Those alone give you 24str and 32sta while knocking your dex down 6 (who cares about cha) and are fairly cheap to acquire. With that healthy boost to your sta, you should be close to or above 100... bye bye agi penalties when encumbered or out of stamina. That leaves you with plenty of room to tailor the rest of your equipment for str/int/ac and get your dex back into respectable range. Also, try your best to get AGI to at least 76 so you're not hit by the AC penalty. I noticed a huge difference going from slightly higher AC items and 73 AGI to lower AC items and 76 AGI =)

I hope that helps you aspiring Erudite SKs, I'm having a blast playing mine.

Definetely Erudite SK. First of all, humans make good monks, druids, and clerics. Everything else is pretty much average, or poor. *coughcoughhumannecrocoughcough* Also, Erudites have the best starting zone in the game, in my opinion, because there are more decaying skeletons there than anywhere else. By level 5, I already had 4 stacks. But the best part is the Warrens. There is usually a high level druid or paladin farming for their guild there, and they can buff you. The kobolds drop molars, which can be turned in to Royal Guard Something who gives up to 5 gold, incredible exp, and sometimes medium ringmail armor. Many kobolds drop bronze weapons that you can sell for up to 3pp a piece, and the higher end kobolds drop bamboo splint (ringmail) or cold iron (bronze with magic resist) armor. That's really good. And the loot you get there is amazing. A level 17 mob dropped a +3 INT cloak once when I was raiding it. I just started up my SK yesterday, and am level 7 already. So even though humans get the armor quests, Erudites are a lot more fun. Plus you get to be one of about 5 erudite SKs on your server at once. =)

Have fun, kiddies, and remember, don't feed the gnome.

I'll second an Erudite SK. There have been many reasons for and against here, so I won't address those. The one think that I enjoyed most about my Erudite SK is fighting in the Warrens as a lowbie. If course if you plan on twinking, it's not an issue. But there is no other place in Norrath that I know of where bronze will drop for a a level 5. You're selling for ove ra plat a weapon at that point. Exp bonus in the warrens is also nice, so you'll level out of there quickly. My SK is at 28 now, and even though she's a very challenging character to play, I have lots of fun.

I have played Iksar SK's since RoK came out... I really like them because of the added AC plus REGEN abilities. Iksar are, however, almost the same as the Human SK's as far as stats are concerned. Another plus side is the Iksar SK only armor - Dreadscale. Basically it is equivilant to Darkforge, with added resists, and you can get pieces earlier than you can get DF... ie: Get the scorpion chitin yourself at L14 or earlier, go to OT and ask someone to loot a Bezerker's whip (no-drop, alot of them rot) and viola! You have a nice 18ac BP with some nice useable SK stats!
Another race I would reccomend is the troll... they can wield a 2hs AND bash, plus have REGEN as well.
If nothing else, put Troll, Iksar, Ogre, and Dark Elf on pieces of paper and draw from a hat! :-)

I play a female erudite SK, presently lvl 37.

Yes the strength stat on me is low, I dont have any great gear, I wear mostly flayed and a brigantine tunic ... the combination looks great and the 7 str on the tunic helps. I always keep siphon strength up, and weild my dark reaver until it procs, for another 26str, then switch to my soulfiend lance or darkedged twohander. I wreckon my 160ish str when fighting like this is pretty low, but there is much better strength gear out there im sure.

On the plus side, when soloing, my downtime isnt bad, especially if there is some really green crap around to tap. give me a clarity and i rock pretty good. Ive heard of some SK's that couldnt cast some of their spells when they first got them because even at full they dont have enough . .. well with the delay of my weapons, i have no problem throwing in a 5 to 10 lifetaps per fight with plenty to spare even after dropping dispair, scream of hate and scream of pain on the mob.

mainly i like my sk cuz i havent seen another female erudite sk since the newbie levels in paineel .. . guess the rest couldnt work the elevator.

Not that this has anything to do with anything... but with 219 posts you have never noticed that changing your signature changes the signature on all your posts? What is so strange about going from 37 to 44 in three months? But perhaps this was your first post, thus excusing your ignorance to the mechanics.

well, the erudites are not a very good SK race in my opinion, SKs are a melee class, Erudites are a caster race, so put 2 and 2 together and you will have a SK that can cast lvl 5 necro spells great at lvl 30 and can't swing a wep for ****, i don't like the ogre/troll int lvls, they are the opposite of the erudites, they melee like hell but can't cast, humans are boring, so that led me to the Tier'Dal (dark elves), thier str isn't the greatest at the beginning but if you dump all the points into it it'll work just fine, also their dex is high and the have permanent infavision.

Stat wise the Erudite race is not even in the same league with Ogres and Trolls. I played a Erudite SK on Friona Vie for a bit, and it was a blast. They are a tough combo to play...you had better be ready to put some commitment into your character, you have to use alot of strategy and careful planning when soling. You don't have the STA to be in a long fight or the HP to tank properly. It was tuff. Yet I really enjoyed playing him, and alot of people gave me props for playing the combo.
The bottom line is that any class/race combo can be devestating in the hands of the right player. Like when you see some one doing something: soloing a mob, quad kiting, etc. and you think man that must be an awesome class. No...just awesome player.

Alright, I guess it's my time to rant. 38 Erudite Shadowknight. Tired of people who've never played a Erudite SK or played with one downing us off the bat because of our 'starting stats.' All those mean is how hard an untwinked SK has it. So if you want an easy ride, choose Troll/Ogre/DE/Iksar. But if you want a challenge then DEFINETLY go Human or Erudite. There will ALWAYS BE GEAR TO BOOST STATS. Untwinked but well played, I have gear that puts my 49 Troll SK guildie to shame until he went to get plenty of planes. Up until that point I'd kept pace with him as far as strength, dex, and hp/ac go.

ATM I have about 150str, 120sta, 80agi, 110dex 132int. 1500hp and 770ac and some 800+atk. For an untwinked 38 that's pretty damn good.

Send me an e-mail at Miraj15@home.come if you want a better idea of what my gear is, or if you're on Drinal and want to duel, I never turn you down.

I have to agree with you mostly, Miraj. Human and erudite seem to be harder to play. I've tried ogre, dark elf, and iksar and they sk's up to lv 15 and they were a lot easier to lv than for me as a human. It's easier to level the other classes for the fact there are a lot more people to group with as a dark elf; ogres have better regen rate and do a whole lot more damage whiche makes them easier to level; iksars regen a whole lot too and don't have trouble finding a group in their home lands and I never noticed any exp penalty on iksars as stated by another post; however I haven't played a gnome, troll or erudites so I don't know for sure about those races. Other than the fact that troll, ogre, dark elf, iksar being "kos" to a lot more places, those races do more damage which means killing stuff quicker for better exp or having better regen or being able to get into a group. Most races of sk' are a dime a dozen, especially dark elves; you don't see to many human sk's and even less erudite sk's. Human and erudites are can go to more cities but no one wants us in their groups cause they say "we don't do enough damage or don't have enough mana to hold their own or aren't good race/class combos". It's just the fact that no one ever sees human sk's and expecially erudite sk's that much, and some of them just don't know how to play as an sk. I'm a lv 47 sk and besides myself I've only seen/grouped with/check zone only about 20-30 human sk's on my server. Andonly seen/grouped with/checked zone for probably no more than a dozen erudite sk's on Drinal, Brell, Vallon Zek, and Firiona Vie servers put together. i'm sure their are more out there on those servers but it seems like a erudite sk is less common than a gm event or a guild raiding mistmoore or someone getting an artifact piece of gear. In closing a erudite sk has almost become an "urban myth". Just my rant/2cp.

Please be cautious when claiming a char is "easy" to play. This hatchling Iksar SK of the 25th season has had to fight through the Iksar 20% leveling penalty AND death at the hands of guards in Freeport while living in the sewers, with no way to purchase food or to bank.

We do not have it easy either...we are warned when born of "High difficulty" but love our father Rile and hail Cazic-Thule.

And it doesn't get any easier at higher levels... especially with the limited armor choices Iksar get, and don't even get me started on our cultural deity armor.

Anyway, definitely choose the race you like the best... stats mean ALMOST nothing in the end-game.

yeah but the problem is, in EQ "challenging" is synonymous with "gimp".

I am currently playing a troll sk that is lvl 13 my friend gave me a argent defender lumberjacks cap and dmg's and i havnt died since i first started and got jumped by 5 frogloks and a mushroom tracker. well anyways there real easy to play as because of there regen bonus and high str int isnt a big problem since i only cast life tap and siphon str the hi prices from there low charisma is a little annoying but all you need is to distribute your starting points evenly into sta and dex and youll have a tank that can solo yellows without a problem

Im playing as a De sk, and i can tell you there is nothing "easy about it". i have also played erudite iksar and troll sks, they actually are all about the same difficulty as far as i have seen, Erudites and iksars get really good newbie zones, Trolls can fight better, which means alot when you are low lvl or are tanking and cant cast without an interupt. I chose De finally and they seem to have a good balance of stats. I have enough mana to cast as needed and whith dumping all stats and focusing my armor on str and sta i can hold my own in a fight.
However u must say NONE of these are "easy" and sk takes alot of effort but it pays off in the end and u get better as you get higher. just my 2cp. oh and for the troll who hasnt died but once, its cause you have a frigin 4k sword not cause ur a troll and they are great or anything

I must say, this is a great weapon, especially for getting 1hb up! This coupled with Shield of Shadows gives me a +16 int boost! If you feel you must upgrade tho, look at the Ebon Mace. 19/24 no stats though =\. One advantage of having a good 1hb/s is being able to equip a good shield, and we could surely use the extra AC! By the way, at lvl 49 MoSS has dmg bonus of 8, I'm hitting in the 50-60 range (most of the time =)
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 08 2002 at 10:19 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i def bought one for 800pp today.
Damage bonus

yeah it now has a damage bonus at 34 its 3 so i guess it starts a bonus at 31 ... or so I'm assuming. I love it . Guild mate got it for me and i had 0 points in my 1hb :( But that night I grouped with a shammy at the igloos in IC and took advantage of his Dex boosting ability.
I am now mastered in 1hb. Shammys are a god send to us SK who havent yet pushed their Dex over 100. The ratio on the Moss is so fast that i doubt ill go back to my dark reaver with its 42 delay. I will miss the Effect : steal strength.

Well I was wondering when it started. May I make a suggestion, sell the Dark Reaver and get a Blackened Alloy ******* Sword. The damage and delay ratio is much better, if you ask me. The Dark Reaver is SK only and is nice to practice wtih I guess. But for hitting more times, for more damage is a BIG plus. I bought my BABS for 250pp on Brell Serilis. I could not be happier that I did.
As far a MOSS, it rocks. My friend has one and since most of my skills are 200 now, and I'm lvl 40. Guess it's time to catch up on 1HB. Again the ratio for this is very nice. Have fun all!

I have been reading the posts on this board for weeks trying to make up my mind about a weapon upgrade. I was considering the WS but I really liked the idea of a SK only weapon. A guildmate of mine found this being auctioned for 1.2k in EC and that completely tipped the scales. Besides my BABS this is the best purchase I have made in the game to date. I made a few mistakes when I created my SK. I should have boosted the strengh more but I was looking for balance. He was my first char and I am really attached to him so I am not about to start over. Any with a boosted stenth of 123 I consistantly hit for 43 points of damage. Not some of the whacks I've seen by WS but MAN the speed! I routinely hit 4 to 5 times to most MOBS 1. This thing definately rocks and I suggest it for any SK. Oh yeah, the posts on keeping your various weapon skills up? Great advice. I used a velium morning star untill I gained master status. It is making my hit ratio much higher since I restarted the skill.
