Try the Purifying Plant expedition. The stonemites there dropped shells as well. I got my two shells in less than 15 mins. (I was killing them very quickly though as a level 89 warrior)

a) At Magus Magus (4)
b) Across the river by the lost souls (4)
c) Turtle pond NW across the zone - pos 278 pos 1000 (4)

The respawn ~15 minutes

There are no other spawning sites for turpta's in this zone, and the sewer zone (off burrindi) requires a mission. Natimbi you can get to through magus even if you haven't done adv. stone quest.

Wrong Side of the River?
# Mar 08 2008 at 11:26 AM Rating: Decent
I zoned in and killed the 4 Turtles next to camp, no luck. I crossed the river and the second turtle I killed I got the shell (not the damaged one). Might be sheer luck but if you are having problems getting the drop cross the river and give it a go.

Went to get the shell and the 1st kill I got it. Not sure if I was lucky or that the drop rate has increased.

Shimmering Steel Threads are purchased from the tailoring vendors in Abysmal Sea. Depending on your charisma, the price is 52 to 65 pp.

Shimmering Steel Threads can be vendor purchased in Abysmal from 2 different vendors, Garald Samer, and Tonlyei Lyhin. Seems kind of strange on SoEs part to have a quest that requires items that can be purchased from a regular vendor.
All that is lost, is not Forsaken

2 steel threads, one of these, and a jewelling kit = reinforced kit
