Interesting, this item is still limited to 2 per NPC vendor. And it's LORE. This is an under-appreciated item, considering it's comparable to a druid or wizard self instant evac. 1000pp used to be real money back in the early days but now spending 1kpp to avoid a corpse recovery is a bargain. You can buy both and bank one of them in the shared bank space. Even as a druid I've been in a situation where my instant evac was down and my fade AA didn't work and I'm doubting I'll get to a zone-out before the pack of mobs that's on my tail can nuke or dot me to death. Or they can summon! This is a lifesaver in those situations. Sure, the sting of death has mostly been removed from EQ thanks to modern "care bear" policies but it still takes time to recover and is generally annoying. Ya know?!

As above. No longer sold. Next nearest merchant = PoT
Mirao does sell them but he only comes with 2 on him to sell so once those 2 are bought you won't be seeing it till the next server down.

A merchant named Vassa Nar in Sanctus Seru sells these lore items. Only one per customer if you got the plat. 1049P 9G 9S 9C per. Always good to have, especially when you are soloing.

over in rivervale, look for Bimble Babbinsbort. checked to see how charisma will change the cost and this is what i found:
charisma= 190; cost= 1049p 9g 9s 9c
charisma= 140; cost= 1049p 9g 9s 9c
charisma= 115; cost= 1120p
charisma= 90 ; cost= 1244p 4g 4s 4c

These are great. I keep one in a bag slot and make the slot a hot button. If things get hairy. Poof. I'm out. 1049 plat. BTW chrs of 110 is the most you can use on a vendor . anything over that is wasted and does nothing to change the price.

Buy gate potions from a shammy, I don't think it's instant but it's cheaper (though still expensive). Combine 3 heliotropes to make it.
The thing to note here is that this is insta gate. Means that if you get in a bind, you can get out right away. I.e. you do the book portion of your Rogue epic alone and want out right away...(oldish post I know but I had to share, hehe)

Does anyone know when the shaman made gate potions become trivial ?
And 3 heliotropes is all it takes ?
Any info on any of the other newer potions ? Like trivials, recipes, excat effects etc. ?

You will pay at least 1054pp from a vendor for this. This was my price with Ally faction and 183 charisma. If you saw it cheaper, it was not a "Vial of Swirling Smoke". Check the name carefully, and look for the exact words "Effect: Gate".
This item is different from the crafted gate potions because it is instacast, has zero casting time. As soon as you right click it from an inventory slot, you gate instantly. That means you cannot be interrupted.
It only has ONE charge, so once you use it one time, it's gone - poof.

Might want to check your price, again. With an indifferent faction, and a CHA of only 97, I was offered this potion for 1049p,9g,9s,9c. And yes, it WAS the correct Vial. (Effect: Gate).
I'm not really 100% sure on this, but I've been told the merchants slightly vary their prices based upon the number of a certian item they have in stock. If they have a lot, they'll sell it slightly cheaper. If they're running low they try and shaft you.

What about a plain (not swirling) vial of smoke looted off willowisps? Merchants offered money for them,then refused to purchase. Is there a quest involving them?

The plain vials of smoke off of willowisps are used for newbie armor...i particular for one of the bard armors.

anyone know if there is a cast time on these? Or are they instant?
theres a merchant in shadowhaven that sells these, hes a brewer sells a bunch of potions, all besides this one (including Enduring Breath) cost bout 15p to an indifferent con 37 charisma ogre, and he had these for sale for 135pp. Based off the price everyone else seems to be paying, this seems like quite a deal.

I was going around EC looking for merchants selling muffins, 'cause I needed em for the Muffins for Pandros quest in WFP. So I go to the last Inn closest to WC but not the one in between the two orc camps, the one that has a grey hut next to it. The merchant that faces the door was selling a vial of this stuff. Didn't see the price though.

Im pretty much a master alchemists my gate potions are trivial at 175 skill which is where i cant gain in skill anymore which is quite irratating. only ones i know we can make are innothule swamp, everfrost, and latly field of bone. never heard of making these but i do know they sell gate potions at a vendor in firona vie. costs 1250pp.
P.S any shamans know what can make to raise skill more, and what the hell does the herb agrimony or something that costs 105pp and dont mix with any of the other sold herbs?

Ok... firstly... Agrimony mixes with Lucern and Sage Leaf to make a Rejuvenation Lesser potion. Triv is 163 I think...
Secondly... try a large number of the luclin recipes to get over 175, such as:
Titan:
Triv 180, Effect Grow
Maliak Leaf, Tri Fern Leaf
Elixir of Divine Endurance:
Triv > 180, Effect +10 to all saves
Blade Leaf, Beltherium Bark
Greater Mystical Infusion:
Triv > 180, Effect +100 Mana to mana pool...
Yerbhimba, Sickle leaf
Hawk's Eye Tonic:
Triv > 180, Effect archery bonus of some form
Star Reach Clover, Tri Fern Leaf
Elixir of Concentration:
Triv > 180, Effect Regen 2 mana per tick
Yerbhimba, Violet Tri-tube
Elixir of Greater Concentration:
Triv > 180, Effect Regen 3 mana per tick
Duskglow Vine, Violet Tri-tube

Im a shaman myself and this isnt a gate potion that we can make and no to my knowledge 255+ in alcehmy isnt possible as 250 is the highest u need about 180-190 for gate potions the areas are FoB and halas but i heard vereant might be adding more destinations i would say how much they make to cost but that wouldnt be fair on all other shms )

There is a quest (actually a piece of one of the Coldain shawl quests), where with pottery you can make a Thurgadin gate potion. The trivial level for making the Thurgadin gate potion is pottery skill around 122.
The relevant quest is listed on this forum as "Saving Tanik".

The merchant by Kelethin bank has these. Last I heard they were bugged.
