The data field has always shown 24 internally. To prettify the math, many people referred to this as a 2.4 modifier (multiplier) over what you'd do if you didn't have the instrument equipped, which we take as a baseline of 1 or 100%. This is equivalent to adding a modifier of 140% to what you'd do if you didn't have the instrument equipped, i.e., 2.4 is 240% of 1, or ((1 x 100%) + 140% [what we show]) of 1.

man i am gunna miss this drum... =( been using it since bout lvl 28... and now that i am getting my epic i am going to lose a huge bonus from the drums... oh well :)
#REDACTED, Posted: May 19 2003 at 9:59 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) 70% on these drums no not even close dotb give like 55% and they are way faster i would know i had both. These drums are just barely better than walrus drums i tested them out. not really worth 6k since you can get walrus for like 500-1k.
what %?
# Apr 11 2003 at 10:47 AM Rating: Decent
I have heard from quite a few that this drum adds 70% to all percussion songs. I thought that was a little much, and Everlore (http://www.everlore.com/items/items.asp?mode=show&IID=115375) says the drum adds around 40%. I was just wondering.
RE: what %?
# May 14 2003 at 12:07 PM Rating: Good
I am not entirely sure what you mean by adding 70% to all percussion songs. But according to Reed's spreadsheet, and verified on Lucy, this drum has a 2.4 modifier. That means that its effects are 2.4 times more potent than without any drum. (If you were to give a 10 STR buff without the drum, it would be 24 with Selo's Drum) In comparison, the standard "A Hand Drum" gives a 1.8 modifier. Hope this helps.

What is with the posts about oh im faster than druids? Of course we are faster. Why do you think VI made part of the bard epic a race? We will beat druids anyday. Backwards, walking, and ducked. (i know, ive done it on a CR with my old drums : ). The only time I accept sows or soes from druids are when we are in a good group, because I wont need to be twisting it, and the soe has little use, save for getting to mobs the ranger has rooted near us.
RE: posts
# Dec 03 2002 at 4:07 PM Rating: Excellent
As a bard of the 43rd song, I actually LOVE to get sows from druids etc. When I cannot I have sow potions on hand. My reason, to twist in another song rather than Selos. A third dot for chant kiting, or while swarm kiting, saves me forgetting to click it on before charm breaks and I'm standing too close to make sure I have an accurate pet health. Sure sow is REALLY slow compared to selos, even at 54 (my druid) it's slower though not terribly noticibly, but even with sow I can easily out-run mobs I'm kiting and tend to keep a more stable distance from the mobs so I don't out-run my song range. Don't get me wrong, selos beats sow hands down, but until I get my 2.5 min song I will stick to bumming sows from guildies and a passing druid. Makes them feel better anyway, which can't hurt if you are in need of a port.

My 2cp, opinions are welcome to differ from mine.

Sinfonian of the 43rd song and climbing fast (two levels last night in TD swarming spirocs). Next up Wyverns in CS!
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 22 2003 at 3:48 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) So, let me get this straight: You think bothering druids for sow makes them feel BETTER? I don't know about you, but if being a druid bothered for a sow is like my enchanter being bothered for clarity (or crack, as stupid people call it) and haste, then I would rather let the people use their own FASTER sow-like song instead of asking me for something they don't need.
RE: posts
# Feb 21 2003 at 2:01 PM Rating: Good
Just to give you a little tip on swarm kiting... no need to stand close unless you are trying to AE dot too... in order to get an accurate visual on the pets life, all you need to do is hit tab to switch between your life and your pets/target. This forces the server to automatically update your target/pets life.
Back to basics

Jeez people, you all argue over the most petty things. If somebody thinks one drum is better than another let them use it uninterrupted. It's not that big of a deal. Honestly, some people need to learn a little humility. Verant should turn all drums into the basic Hand drum. Hell I still have mine and i do just fine with it. I get where i wanna go at the speed i want to and I don't complain. Now should I EARN better drums I'll use those. But I'll never buy a drum. I wouldn't feel as though I've accomplished anything unless i killed the necesary mob. Now stop bragging, arguing, bickering, and whining and just earn your right to beat off.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 11 2003 at 10:01 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) First off, what bard? I see a rogue, wizard, and druid as your characters.
RE: Back to basics
# Feb 24 2003 at 12:02 PM Rating: Default
Yob's post was very enlightening.

1) I would love it if Verant turned this drum into a "basic" hand drum that way when I go to ToV and play my AE magic fire and cold resist song I will only get +45 to each of them instead of +100 as I do with this drum now. Having that kind of a buff on my guild mates is unwanted, they would all prefer to die.

2) From level 42 to 52 I went on countless Naggy and Vox raids (too many to count). But since I was never lucky enough to roll a 1000 on a /random 1 1000 I guess I have not "earned" this drum as opposed to the warrior who did roll a 996. I guess he earned it. Too bad he is going to sell it in the bazaar to bard who has not earned it.

Whoa.. Even on open raids class only can roll. I dont see how a warrior was able to roll on this drum with a bard on the raid. That is ludicris ! Im sorry to hear that - yet I guess greed is overwhelming expecially on open raids.

If people have the money to buy better equipment, you are saying don't buy? What is the point of that? Where do you usually get money? MOBS most of the time. So if you earn the money by killing other mobs and want to buy something you aren't actually earning it? I don't exactly get your way of thinking Yobkaerf.

Correct calculations

To check all of your calculations please download the Bard Analysis Spreed Sheet, at www.eqdiva.com

Drum of the beast is much better then Selo's, about 5% better, and allows weilding a weapon.
Amazing.

Twinked my 18 Bard with these. Raced a 52 Druid guildie. Selo's played with Selo's Drums waxed his SoW and was a little faster than his Spirit of Scale (I think that's the name). Why was he happy? Because he just started a Bard. :) Guess what the next item he buys is going to be.

RE: wtf

Wrong Kirei. Songs that require an instrument don't use singing.

Cantata of Soothiing - requires string
Melody of Ervaj- requires brass
Shauri's Sonorous Clouding- requires wind
RE: wtf
# Sep 26 2003 at 8:35 AM Rating: Decent
Some songs REQUIRE an instrument, but for the most part all Bard songs can be sung without one. They just work better if you use the appropriate instrument.
Beast drums
# Nov 23 2001 at 8:42 AM Rating: Decent
When i first started a bard i had bought a drum at the bard guild which added a little speed then i upgraded to mm even more so. then i got walrus and im was smoking and then i was fortunate enough to be able to trade for beast drums and i have to say these drums have to be at least 15% faster than walrus i mean i could tell a big difference. These are my babies and not for sell although i hear there worthless when they roll over but also hear is all u got to do is walk :) Outran my 57 druid friend in wolf form which is suppose to be fast i toasted him walking kinda funny from a 28 bard : )

% increase in stat
# Oct 23 2001 at 11:55 PM Rating: Good
Did any of you silly lil bards ever once consider that you can get an accurate accounting of exactly what % an instrument adds to your song by singing a song that increases your "unbuffed" stats???? You will never in 100 years be able to tell if a drum is "faster" with selo's due to zone lag, course of travel, blah blah blah.

OK... first write down your stats.... Str, Sta, Agi, Dex, Wis, Int, Cha and resists. Second: Dump all the buffs that some caster has put on you... the best time to do this test is when you are waiting for a rez cause you are naked and nothing will confuse your stats. Third: Sing your very first song... Level one... Chant of Battle... you all have it. Now.. LOOK at how many points this song adds to your STR, your DEX and your AC. NOW... equip the silly lil 'Drum' you can buy in every bard guild in Norrath. Start singing your lvl 1 song again. LOOK at how many points this DRUM with this SONG adds to your stats. NEXT... pick a different drum... maybe the MistMoore drum and equip it and start singing the song again!!! LOOK at your stats and how much they have increased. If you have ever had an algebra class you will know how to do the math on calculating percentages.
Write it Down...........
***My stats at Level 55 were as follows:
My naked STR stat: 118
My STR while singing Chant of Battle (CoB): 136
My STR with CoB with Nostrolo's Tamborine: 157
My STR with CoB with Walrus Skin Drum: 159

If 118 is 100% of my STR without anything added then 136 is 115%of my STR or an increase of 15% with just the song added; then 157 is 133% (based on my original naked stat) or an 18% increase by equipping my Nostrolo's tamborine; then 159 is 135% and only a 2% increase by using the Walrus Skin Drum.

SO in conclusion: the song alone adds 15%, the Nostrolo's Tamborine adds 18% to the value of the song and the Walrus Skin Drum adds 20% to the value of the song. There is only a 2% difference in what the Tamborine and the WSDrum add to your song. Voila.

SOOOOO when someone says that Nostrolo's tamborine adds 23% to your song.. tell them bah humbug... It adds 18%.

***These numbers change with levels and are simply a short explanation to this calcuation. For an extremely accurate reflection of an instruments %, I suggest you test all the percussion songs, and do these calculations for each stat affected by the particular song then finding an average once you have all of your testing done.
RE: % increase in stat
# Apr 19 2002 at 9:35 PM Rating: Decent
Well, this may hold true for the Chant of Battle songs but verant has said instruments affect different songs differently, so using one song may not be an accurate overall percentage, though I dont have the time or math skills it would take to figure out a better way.
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 04 2002 at 8:39 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This post would get some rating if it wouldn't state the obvious that you can read up on any bard related web page (And if it didn't have that 'i-know-better-than-all' sound).

RE: Selo's Vs Sharkskin

There is a 200% cap on speed. The only drums that have a roll over effect currently (until they either fix the bug or nerf the drum) are Drums of the Beast from Siren's Grotto. By the time you get them, it takes your Selo's speed over 200% and are worthless for traveling.

Selo's vs Sharkskin: 5% difference, Selo's is faster

Basically, the major drums ingame, in order of worst to best:
MM Drums (17%), Tamborine (23%), Sharkskin (30%), Selo's (35%), Drums of the Beast (Over 35%, not sure what % exactly)
RE: Selo's Vs Sharkskin
# Sep 23 2001 at 1:18 AM Rating: Decent
err walrus is 30% sharkskin is 22
RE: Selo's Vs Sharkskin
# Jul 12 2001 at 9:38 AM Rating: Decent
HUGE Difference between these and sharkskin drums. The Nostrolo Tamborine is even better than sharkskin drums by about 1% (not that it is much of a difference, but better just the same).

You say you did not notice a difference when switching between them, try starting song up with your sharkskin drums in an enclose area, say FV tunnels, while running, switch to Selo's drums and you will see a marked improvement.

Raced another bard of a higher level last night, I had my selo's drums, he had sharkskin, raced from the wizzy spires in DL to the druid spires, and although he was RED to me, I still smoked him.

Not to mention the bonus you get to your DoT percussion songs (chants).

Im a druid that have raced bards since i got SoC... Most of them got MMdrums. Pre30s i would get them. About 35 it was pretty equal. But from there it was just kinda a glowing purple streak far in front of me. And it last all the time. Bards really got an advantage here. Both against mobs. But especially in PvP
Racing. =)

I think a store bought drum is enough if its only use is to compete with some druid or others...

A good drum can be used for resist songs on dragon raids for example (or for chant kitting, etc)
