For those of you that haven't done this yet I am lvl 115 so I can't give you any kind of strat information but I can tell you a werewolf gypsy dropped it yesterday.
He spawned in the Grand Ballroom at loc -142.95,8.83,-191.53. The spawn was 20 minutes and took me 3 or 4 hours to get. Good Luck!!

I went this evening to see if I could get this drum just for the fun of it. I am level 115 so can't say anything about strats but I can say that the spot to
be in to get this to drop is the Grand Ballroom loc was -142.95,8.83, -191.53. It dropped for me off of a werewolf gypsy. It was about a 20 minute spawn
and took 3 or 4 hours of camping it to get it to drop. Hope this helps anyone that is interested in this drum.

Fairly Rare

This is a fairly rare drop. I have been farming this room with a friend for a few nights. The room spawns on about a 22 minute timer and we have done about 16 cycles with no luck at all. We've seen a TON of werewolves, but haven't seen Mynthi yet. I'm guessing that Mynthi would have a better drop rate. Nice drum for a bard, going to have to keep trying! :)
Tough nut to crack

Not that this is new to long time veterans. But this room is not a walk in the park. Yes a high level can go to MM and clear the zone, however . . . a well balanced group has to be on their toes to camp this room. We did this last night on the Progression server "Fippy Darkpaw" with:

36 Warrior
37 Druid
37 Enchanter
47 Cleric

All went well, we Sup Camo'd to the base of the ramp after the GY area. Worked our way up the ramp an cleared the front of the castle and started to clear the inner entrance area. It takes a lot of pulling and crowd control to clear these areas. The thing about MM is the pathing, and the fact that you almost ALWAYS get at least 4 mobs sometimes 6 or 7. When we finally cleared the piano room we started pulling the side rooms for XP. At one point we pulled the Ambassador from the side rooms and she mezzed the Warrior which ended up getting the Enchanter and Druid dead. The cleric and Warrior still made it we rezzed and went on.

Basically don't plan to go in this area if you're conning yellow or red unless you have a full, well balanced group. I still plan to go back when I'm high level for a "revenge" run. Also, as a bonus the money here is great. Clear your bags before you go in, a TON of Fine Steel/Bronze will drop and the plat is decent as well. The two of us were boxing the above group and we cleared about 200pp each in about 1 1/2 hours which isn't bad.

Enjoy Castle Mistmoore . . . a classic zone!

no, it was probably designed to use your hand to beat it...old style drums did not require drumsticks

Yeah -- for example, you'll run a lot faster playing Selo's with these, compared to a hand drum. That alone makes them worthwhile. The modifier is listed above: 17%.

It is the fact that it gives a percentage modifier to all percussion songs. Not sure how you are supposed to know that or how much, but there are websites that talk about it. Such as http://www.eqdiva.com/items.asp?item=27&type=I

First off, the main point, I will do whatever I gotta do to get my bard these drums, they kick azz.

and for the twinking and skill comments everyone has said, you all have valid points and this is a good summary of them , you can be twinked till your butt bleeds, but if you dont know what your doing you will still die, uber items dont stop dvinn from chasing you down those stairs and across the moat, or from a Drolvarg Rager in Dreadlands from making you his kibbles and bits.
a player who knows what he or she is doing and is equipped well, is a deadly weapon. more power to ya.
just my 2 cents, enjoy, and remember to apply the Visine every 2 hours, and keep your fluid level good. And always keep a bag of Milano cookies close by during those long guild raids, nothing like getting left in Lower Guk, because you went for a glass of milk, and took a bio break !!!
Starting at 40 would suck

I have a 42 Rogue and I got tired of him so I decided to make a bard alt... I got help from a friend to get my newbie armor and a decent weapon...now I am level 20. I can still use my weapon and newbie armor. The game wouldn't be fun if it started at 40 or 50 or sometime after that I mean is there one person here who didn't feel proud when their mains were level 9 and finished their first quest for newbie armor? Anyone who didn't feel great about finally getting to 20 just so you could make a last name? Who here didn't like there newbie days...leveling easily not needing to group every day every night every time you logged on? What fun is it if you started at level 40 and had to get a group just to kill one thing that gives you not even visible blue when at level 1 you can kill that decaying skeleton and get about half a yellow?

Hi, my guild mates were thinking about raiding this place when we get a bit older. We raid for other guildies' equipment and I'd like this drum. Can any of you please tell me at what level we should attempt to get this. Our raid group is an Enchanter, Ranger(two), Rogue, Cleric, Bard, and a Warrior. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

The advice that RavinRed and Slipskin have posted is good, but I would add one technique that they have not mentioned.

You are a bard. You are one of the best single-pullers in the game. Use your Lull song (Level 8 - Kelin's Lament) to reduce the aggro radius of the surrounding mobs, and you can easily single pull. You'll also avoid the huge pathing issues that they described.

I've spent a lot of time in Mistmoore farming Essence of Moonlight and still use that same level 8 Lull.

We were just in Mistmoore with our guild, getting instruments for me and the Souldfire Hilt for my Paladain partner. We were a mixed group, I was the youngest at 38 and I think our eldest is 54. Amazingly enough, I could still get XP grouped with the higher levels.

I'd recommend bringing one higher-level player who will pull minimum agro to pull for you. Four or five at a time was all we could handle. Hallways and rooms need to be cleared mob-by-mob or you will pull the whole castle down on your ears. Also be warned that there is a pathing problem in the castle: if a mob takes too long to show up, RUN and don't look back. It's most likely taken the long way and gathered up about 10 of it's friends to help.

We managed to get eveyone's drops within a couple of hours. A couple of deaths here and there, and one occurance of the pathing problem that resulted in a TKO for the guild. (The picture of the corpse pile is great!)

But it's a FUN zone if you've got a good group. Pretty good money too.

Considering that the mob who drops this is in a crowd of level 30-35 MOBs I suggest you wait until close to level 40 and have 2 full groups with heavy crowd control. Mistmoore Castle is a train station waiting to happen. The adjoining rooms are within the aggro radius of the MOBs in the ballroom so if you pull the ballroom the crazy pathing will bring in the piano room MOBs, the Ambassador Room MOBs and a few extras wandering around in the hallways.
MM vs Combine

On EQ Diva I saw a spreadsheet comparing different instruments. The MM Drums are only about 2 percent better than the Combine drums and cost a whole lot more. The trick is getting to Katta Catellum to buy the Combine Drums. Pay 10 times more to get an extra 2% from MM Drums? Not me. I ran to Katta. Same deal with Gypsy Lute vs Combine Lute/mandolin.

They are a bit better than combine, they have a cool name and they were robbed from a vampire castle.

If you can't drop them lower than 1/2 bubble of life then you have to options: go level some more, or get a group together and just slay, slay, slay. The more you slay, the better chance you have of getting some battle drums.

#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 31 2001 at 8:02 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) First off let me state that I'm not anti-twink. You've definitely got the equipment - only catch is that playing a Bard takes SKILL - skills that are learned by experience. (But sounds like you'll make a fine-looking corpse. HEHE.)
RE: heh
# Nov 19 2001 at 2:50 AM Rating: Default
1. You say you are not anti twink, well, the rest of your post says you are. So stop with the stupid remarks.

2. If your level shown is true, you have not a clue about what a bard takes for skill, I bet you still use a weapon most of the time and have not considered using different instruments as you twist songs. When you learn to time your songs with instruments, and then get in a good attack without dropping a song, let me know, until then do not talk of skill.

3. You have not even started playing the game, as most people who play this know, the beginning of the game is post level 40 and some would state it even higher. When you get there, talk to us about skill.

4. Right now, you are probably getting a level or more a day you play, talk to us about skill when you reach a hell level and spend over 30 hours of play time getting through 45, then 50 hours of play time through 50.

I am sorry about this, I just read the post and found myself moved to respond. He was merely posting that his level 6 bard has some nice gear. You have no idea what skill he has, yet you chose to comment on it.

He posts his level as 47 and you presume that you have more knowledge of game? That is comical.....

Hmm, seems to me people should be playing the game instead of bragging about how great they are ( I refuse to use uber) I play a bard, and I had to scratch and claw my way uo to 30, and started with the rusty SS and milk and cookies. I have seen bards with SS gear, a centi lonsword, and just absolutely outfitted with stuff manly levels higher, and they could not twist to save their lives, all they would do is tank and one never played a song while we were in a group together, hell I am still wearing some pieces of the FP newbie bard quest armor. The game starts at 1 and that is that, and I really get tired of people who spend 8+ hours a day playing the game talking about how godlike they are, when this is only a game and should be played for fun. I still go and do the lower level quests just for the fun of it, interaction with the world. Quit worrying about the levelling treadmill, stop the loot whoring, and play the game as it was intended and I bet it will be that much more fun to play. I plan on actually questing for the lambent armor, because that will give good experience, and a sense of accomplishment because I stuck it through instead of scrounging 1300p to just buy the armor "'cuz it looks cool" feh! just play the game.

I got to here and got so sick of all of you that I stopped and went back and rated all your posts awful. There has GOT to be a better way to spend time than spewing out this BS. I started a bard (at lvl 1) and he's a pain in the butt to play, mashing keys all the time, but it is a challenge and I'm determined to get good at playing him. Until then, I know enough to stay out of everyone's way.

The ONLY comment of any interest that I read was about switching out instruments with weapons in the middle of a battle while twisting. Can anyone elaborate without going off on some ridiculous tangent?
RE: heh
# Nov 20 2001 at 1:21 PM Rating: Good
I must start off by saying that I agree with most of what you're saying here. However, I'm getting tired of seeing all these people saying "The game starts at 40." (or 50, 55, 59, whatever) The fact is that unless they changed something in the last patch, the game still starts at Level 1. In fact, in my opinion, that's the most fun anyone can have in EQ. I'll personally never forget scurrying back to the Kelethin guards and making it just in time to watch them pummel the stupid orc pawn undercon. Sure, killing level 50 and 60 mobs is great, and I certainly don't mean to discount the work it takes to get to that point, but I don't think you can ever beat that initial feeling of equiping your first newb tunic and (insert your classes newbie weapon here) and walking into the newbie area with no idea what's waiting to jump you. Anyways, enough with the dramatics, my point is that it's comments like "The game starts at 40" that lead to people thinking they're better than others, namely lowbies. This is ironic since that's what your post was supposed to be fighting. Anyways, maybe you didn't mean it the way I interpreted, I don't know, and I don't mean to point any fingers specifically, just something for the "ubers" to think about.
RE: heh
# Jul 03 2002 at 3:08 AM Rating: Decent
I think what most people mean by "The game starts at level 40" is that a new player will start to really know how to play his charicter well after about 40 levels. And I agree.
Now, that being said, there are always exceptions. I've grouped with relative noobs that really knew what they were doing, and guys in there 50's that didn't have a clue. I know that I was good early on but didn't really hit my stride till about 42-44.
Now players on an alt toon are only learning the class (not the basics of the game as well) but that will still take time to master. Maybe not as long as the first but anyone that thinks they can really learn a new class in 20 level's is a fool.
And lastly, I have to agree with the guy that said he has a new respect for GOOD bards. I've started one reciently and will never take a good bard for granted again.

I've gotta say, while we're discussing skills and experience, that it all depends on the player behind the avitar. My bard is 38. She rarely uses brass songs, has barely ever charmed a mob, and had been teamed up with a Pally most of her life. Non-traditional, certainly. But I get compliments from higher-level folks I've worked with on the quality of my twists and my song choices. (I also have been known to play all day with wrist braces on *grin*)

I've played with folks who were GREAT with their mains but never seem to get their alt's classes down. And I've played with foks who are very observant, who seem to absorb other classes roles and skills directly through their modem.

It's the player, not the class.
