My favorite weapon of all time
# Jul 02 2004 at 12:54 PM Rating: Decent
This is my all time favorite weapon. Besides having a sweet proc that activates often even at low levels, it's a WHIP! As I hung on to life by a thread...PROC...and I lived to kill again. I rolled many characters, and if they could hold this weapon, they did from 10 to 17. After playing EQ for 4 years, and holding epics, this weapon remains the fondest in my memory.
This Weapon

Ok all, this weapon is a really nice weapon to have in your teens for sure. I would rate it as one of the better weapons too.
The Proc is a level 8 Enchanter spell called Choke which is a DoT (Damage over Time for the noobs).

It procs as follows:

17-20 Direct Damage (depends on level)
-7-10 Strength (depends on level)
-7-10 Agility (depends on level)
and 60 more damage over 30 seconds.

For any tank, it probably doesn't have much taunt value when it procs compaired to the damage taunt that you are doing unless you are level 10. For an offhand weapon, it would be great to have (considering the debuffs it does). I would suggest using this weapon only as a secondary after it procs and not using it till at least 13.

HAve fun!

Btw, what makes this weapon even funner for twinking is that it procs on lvl 12 or 13...can't remember atm.

That is because the proc, Choke, is a lvl 12 spell, not 8 as previously mentioned.

Definitely nice for aggro, despite the ratio.

Proc is lvl 10, spell is lvl 12.

I still use this whip at 30! Placed in primary because of 24 Dly with Velium Long Sword in secondary. Awesome procs when both going off at the same time, hehe.
proc?

My 17 rog has had this for 5 or so lvls. With 130 dex this thing almost NEVER procs for me unless I am fighting a greenie, then it procs constantly. I have lterally spent 4 plus hours killing orcs in oasis and had this thing proc twice. Go figure.

Sounds odd, it procs as a primary weapon on my lvl 19 ranger though i only have 93 Dex... not as often as i'd like too, but sometimes twice or three times in a fight, be it a green, blue or red mob :)

with 101 dex, this procs every other fight against blues and evens in sec slot for my 15 warrior.
I love this weapon!

Is there a better weapon for low level characters? I bought the whip for 92 pp from a merchant and with the 0 weight and AWESOME Choke proc at level 10 I can't think of a better weapon to get for the price (even if you buy from another PC). My new Rogue will be sporting this for a while! Oh yeah! +15 HP is the proverbial icing on the cake!
Goblin Bodyguards

This drops off Goblin Bodyguards, which can spawn anywhere around the Chief area. Quite common.

I got this for 80pp from a guy. He auctioned it so I asked him how much, expecting at least 300pp answer, then that beautiful purple print said 80pp. It brought a tear to my eye. I went to make the trade and the guy said that he changed his mind and that he wanted at least 90pp. Bein the stingy lil rogue I am, I said 80 or no deal...yeah yeah, I know, I know. So we made the trade and I tried it out. Being overwhelmed by how many procs I had on one green creature, I ran back to him and gave him 20pp more. Still an AWSOME deal, but he was quite happy.
The best offhand weapon under lvl 37

Whip of strangulation is the greatest weapon I swear. It procs like crazy and does alot of damage. 20dd, -7str, -7agil, and a 60dot that lasts 30 sec. And when it procs again...it recycles. Unless you can find a weapon that procs around 80damage, get this. A yak procs a 78dd I believe..but procs around lvl 37. So grab this bad boy and use until u get a yak. Got my for 400pps. This should be worth like a yak(1k) cuz of the great choke proc.

This thing really draws the mobs attention. And its cool to emote 'Jrail applies a Heimlich with his right foot on a %t ' or ' Jrail applies a Crossface Crippler on a %t ' hehe the possibilities are endless. Oh I got another one that really makes em laugh ' Jrail applies the Mandible Claw on %t ' The only draw back is that there are better weapons out there and Iksar dont have 4 arms.

It certainly proc'ed for my Level 10 rogue, it procs very regularly and is very useful too! Nice to find something this powerful that procs at such a level. Compare with the alleged proc level of Velium weapons of 25, for a minimal 12 points of DD.

Yes, but how much Dmg does it do? I would expect around 20-30, but I am not sure.

Choke is a level 12 Enchanter spell that does several things to the target according to EQ Casters Realm's spell lists.

1. Direct Damage (18 - 20)
2. Decrease Strength (7 - 10)
3. Decrease Agility (7 - 10)
4. Damage over Time (60 hitpoints over 30 secs)

Nasty, eh?
RE: Choke
# Jan 31 2001 at 11:20 PM Rating: Default
The damage is 4 rounds of 20 points of damage each for a total of 80 points of damage per choke spell. My wife has one and I have also seen it proc before the spell has run its course, but it does not stack. It just seems to lengthen the amount of time a mob chokes. Fortunately she got a steal of a deal forf just 36 pp and has been using it since level 15, so I have had time to watch it work. I have been tryin to convince her to put it in her off hand and a Langseax in her main hand as the Langseax is just a bit faster and you don't need the choke to proc as often as a DD spell as it is a DoT.

I feel really bad now... I just picked up one of these for my 32-34 warrior (Been trying oddball stuff recently, been bouncing back and forth through the levels like a ping pong ball), and I see level 15's with it. :-)
Oh well. I predict that with a DD, DoT, and Debuff proc, as well as low delay, it's GOTTA be a decent taunt.

Also, before I DW two of these, anyone know if the DD component goes into effect with a 2nd proc over the first? I would assume that if it lengthens the choke time, it must be overwriting the spell and, as such, would.

First of all, you can't DW this weapon because it's LORE. That sucks cuz my mouth waters over the possibility of doing just that but if you have the money and want a good taunt combo (not sure if you'd want to do this at 32-34 but...), try dual wielding this bad boy and an icy blade. Short Sword of the Ykesa would be nice but i like to look for bang for buck weapons and the SSoY just doesn't do it for me in that regard.

BUT with the two i mentioned, you have the choke that does 4 rounds of 20damage (80 total) in one hand and a DD Shock of Ice proc that does around 38 damage. And with both weapons having a low delay, you'll be ROCKIN'! Trust me on this, you will NOT be disappointed. And if you're patient and/or lucky enough, you can get both the Whip and the Icy Blade BOTH for the price of ONE SSoY. Bang for Buck? I believe that fits the description! :o)

Be safe and may your travels take you to lands not seen, heights not reached, passions never felt and conquests undreamed of.

regardless of it being a LORE item, I was given this whip by a stranger while sitting outside of the Qeynos North Gates. How that would have happened, I do not know.

Where did this number of 20dmg come from? I can only get 17dmg (hasn't been anything else) out of the choke effect. Further, the choke seems to only go off once for me, though I did once get a message that the choke effect had worn off.

And yes, the weapon begins to proc at lvl 10, not before.

# Jul 05 2001 at 1:38 AM Rating: Default
Ummmm Lore doesnt mean you cant be given the item, only that you can not have more then one. And also, the 20dmg they mention is for the DOT part, the 17 you are talking about is the DD proc.
