66% Haste? or BS?
# Nov 10 2003 at 2:01 PM Rating: Default
I read a post on EQ Casters Realm that this weapon has 66% spell haste on it. This is the first I've ever heard of that. There were no replies saying that guy was full of it and there is nothing here in these posts that say anything about spell haste. Is this guy full of BS or does it really have spell haste of 66%? If it does have the haste I'm sure more people would have it and there would be posts all over about it.

A friend recently linked this Epic to me and it does have an addional effect and I bekieve that it is spell haste. I may be wrong about spell haste, but I'm POSITIVE that it has an additional effect on it. This pic needs updat.

I went back and looked and I can't find the post I saw, you might be right and I was looking at the chanter epic but if I'm correct it is not spell haste but attack haste.

I think whoever posted about the epic, just used a poor choice of words. I do believe you are talking about the Enchanter Epic, but the difference in terminology is that when looking at haste, melees can have two kinds that always stack together:

Equipment-based Haste and Spell-based Haste. I think the poster was probably referring to the fact that it is a click effect that results in targettable spell-based haste.

Not to my knowledge. I don't normally have my epic equipped, but after reading this I decided to do some tests and aside from expected differences due to the dmg/delay differences between epic and my normal main hand item, there's nothing to support there's any haste at all built into our epic.

Considering the extreme eyesores I have seen running around Norrath since it was (unwisely, it seems!) made possible for a player to easily choose the colour of their own armour, I find it really amusing that people complain about what this thing looks like. Come on, people, so it's not the coolest looking thing in creation, it still does a good job imo.

I'm only partway through this quest, but I have every intention of seeing it through to the end, and when I do I will weild this baby with pride. It's immaterial to me whether or not it's possible to buy better items in the bazaar, as that's not what the game is meant to be about. I want to complete my epic if for no other reason than to say that I did it. And I'm not going to complain about the sense of accomplishment I'll have when I finally hold it in my hand, either.

If you're going to whinge about how an item looks, maybe you ought to give some consideration to not dying your bard alt's armour to look like Rainbow Brite...

#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 30 2003 at 3:45 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Very nice weapon? personally.. I think it sux. It hasnt even come close to keeping up with the power of the game, and considering that they revamp fear and hate they have made it even harder to get. The dot should be like 2200hps or more now and in same 1.6 minute time. To top it off a 9 second cast time.. to cast a 1200hp dot is so offbase with the power of the game. I am still unsure that I will ever get it cause of this. As it is I weild a better stat weapon now. The only reason I would get it is for the DoT.

I did my final turn in and completed the quest a few days ago. And despite what you all say about the duckie stick, it is a nice item. Yes, it may not be pretty to look at, but it does the job just fine for me.

Besides, who can complain about the 1200 snare/dot clicky that comes with the stick?

RE: Hmm..
# Dec 09 2003 at 8:31 AM Rating: Decent
Darkgoth, you remind me of those primitive, badly educated, forever-poor people with many kids.

I am a single child and my parents invested everything in me. So I apply the same philosophy to my EQ characters. I would prefer quality over quantity any time of day. My necro had best armor (without level requirements) I could find and 103k horse at lvl 1. I am not ashamed of it. I earned the money myself. Plus my twinky has experience of a lvl 65 mage, which means I use my gear well and I know how to play (I am not just wearing it for fun).
RE: Hmm..
# Aug 01 2002 at 1:49 PM Rating: Good
I pity people who think that twinking is pathetic. To me it's a choice, and you either choose to do it or you don't. Why should it bother someone if someone else chooses to do it? And why wouldn't anyone want to do it when it simply makes your life easier...your character's life and your REAL life.

Here's a scenario. You're out romping around in a zone and for whatever reason you kill something. It drops something you can't use on the character you're playing, but you have a low level character you started playing, or you have an idea for a character you want to start playing, and you choose to use that item for him/her.

If you don't use that item you would either
1) just let it rot,
2) pick it up and just give it to someone else,
3) pick it up and sell it to someone else, or
4) give a shout to the zone to let everyone know they can come pick it up.

While selling an item is okay and giving it away is a nice thing to do, why wouldn't you use an item yourself instead of letting someone else use it?

The same scenario applies to seeing an item go up for sale. If you have a character with the cash to pay for an item, and you have a use for the item on another one of your characters, why wouldn't you buy it and give it to him/her?

If you don't you're forcing your RL self to go through a lot more effort to play a game that should be more fun than work, and while playing an untwinked character may be fun for some, it's a lot more work for some others.

I for one choose to twink my lower level characters at every opportunity, and it has made my game playing time more fun for me. If someone else chooses NOT to do it, fine, but don't give grief to those of us who choose to do it. There really is no reason to let it bother you.

p.s. and just to avoid some flames, I'm not talking about trying to get an item the character you're playing can't use while someone else who helped kill a mob wants the item for the character they're playing. An item should go to the character in the group who needs it most and if more than one player has similar needs, you should either roll for it or use a point system.

# Oct 21 2002 at 11:28 AM Rating: Default
umm, I think there is a minor difference between handing something down to one of your lower level characters and twinking a level 1 with a full suit of Thurgadin quest armor (which you are a liar, you have to be 45 to turn it in). Just my opinion.
RE: Hmm..
# Jan 27 2003 at 11:35 PM Rating: Decent
yeah, you are a liar. A level 1 would not have the faction either to get those items...
RE: Hmm..
# Feb 05 2003 at 6:21 PM Rating: Decent
Well, in THEORY, it's not impossible for a level 1 to get Velious quest armors.

The level 1 could tag along, say, on some Kael raids and just tag mobs with throwing daggers or whatnot, sharing faction hits with the raid. (But that level 1 player had better be DAMN sure nothing there aggros on him...)

I'm not quite sure why anyone would want to put forth this much effort to aquire armor for a player who has no business owning it... but to each their own...

Its really even easier than that. All you need are massive quantities of frost giant toes, and kromrif heads. Sit in thurgadin, and do the first and second prayer shawls over and over until you have sufficient faction. If you can farm the armor drops, you'll get plenty of heads and toes at the same time.

As far as WHY someone would twink a level one this way, its simple. For the people who come to Kael to kill Vindi, or Statue/AoW, Thurg armor would be a downgrade. However, they may get several pieces to drop, while clearing arena for the pull. In addition, they probably would get plenty of toes and heads killing the yardtrash as well.

Well, should they just destroy the drops, or go ahead and MQ them for their twinks?

Oh, and lest I forget, if they can 2box the twink in for the actual vindi/statue/AoW fights, all they need to do is tag each one with a level 1 spell, or an arrow, and they get HUGE faction from those mobs.

And of course, if they STILL don't have the faction, they can get one of their enchanter friends to use share alliance to take them up the rest of the way.

Not just able to do this in theory, its really pretty simple to do in actuality.

I would love to know how you got velinous armor on a lvl 1 charater
RE: Hmm..
# Jul 27 2002 at 7:07 AM Rating: Default
It is simple, actually...

for example, thurgadin...
using your main, loot or buy kromrif heads and toes. give them to the twink, and do the first two prayer shawls to get faction.
Loot or buy the needed gems, and give them to the twink. buy an MQ of the drop armors needed for your class (cloth/leather/chain/plate). These are constantly for sale in the auction zone and market channel.

for kael or skyshrine faction, you have to be a little trickier. Get your guild to raid the appropriate area, tag along as the twink. cast a level 1 DD spell, or fire an arrow at each mob AFTER the MT has the aggro. you dont have to hit or do damage to get the faction, just attepmt to do so.
you will die a few times, but since you dont loose exp or gear below level 10 any more, any cleric can throw the level 14 rez on you. it has a very low mana cost, and no exp restore, but you arnt loosing exp to die anyway.
RE: Hmm..
# Jan 06 2003 at 2:10 PM Rating: Decent
considering you can fall on some mobs to get level two nowadays the experience from getting the faction required to do these quests. You would be level 10 or so anyways by the time you were done. Unless, you took measures to prevent leveling .
RE: Hmm..
# May 14 2003 at 12:33 PM Rating: Decent
The person gave the example of high level raids with the lowbie tagging along in group... the lowbie wouldn't get any xp, therefore they wouldn't level.
RE: Hmm..
# Jul 24 2003 at 3:18 PM Rating: Decent
I think that they meant the exp from the turn ins. High levels don't notice it b/c its only enough to make a notable change on low levels.

it **CAN** be done.. although I it would be very expensive. You could buy faction increasing items (like coldain heads) and buy the MQs for the armor. It IS possible, i've seen people do it, but it's quite expensive.

Having great gear does not a great necro make. It certainly makes it easier to level, but it does not give you the solo, small group, and raid skills that will make you a gem of the necro class. I made it to 60th with gear that would make most level 30's blush. But now I have decent Warlock gear. Your skills are more important than your equipment young grasshoppper.

I agree totally I am a 39 necro running around in bare feet. Cloth pants, No shoulder gear no wrist gear nothing on my waist and only one ring. Every other item I have was cheap nothing over 100p in bazaar.

What does this mean?
Means I know how to fight. No room for error when you got no gear protecting you.

I do my share of dying true but never the same way twice.

FYI I started this character about 23 days ago and have wasted 3 days in Najena having fun. And another 3 days in SRO tryin to get some JBoots.

This is so much crap... lol. I twinked my necro and I died 5 times total between level 1 and 52 and I did it in 7 days. The only thing a naked necro makes is good fodder because his mana pool and hitpoints are crappy. Doesn't make you good to be naked and using cloth, it makes you a crappy player I don't care what "skills" you got, you are working with a handicap.

Twinked char with skill > naked, crappy equiped, or even level equiped player with same skills.

The only thing you non twinked chars are is jealous cause' you can't twink your charectors. I would much prefer a twinked group to take stuff we couldnt otherwise than a noob group of cloth equiped charectors to die with.

"The only thing a naked necro makes is good fodder because his mana pool and hitpoints are crappy."

LOL. All a Necro needs is a bone chip and a mostly full spellbook and they're ready to go. INT doesn't matter when you can regenerate mana so fast, and hit points add a nice buffer for the Lich spells but with care you can manage with nothing more than your self buffs. Possibly the only class less gear-dependant than a Necro is a Mage, since they can summon much of their own gear.

nice try.

The cloak is no drop and from POA. Maybe a level 1 could make it to the herbie with a group, but you still have to be 46 to get into POA. And you need 3 items from poa (only one is no drop) and you have to complete the quest in poa. You have a while to go - even if you try to MQ the quest.

Velious quest armor at level 1, eh? nice trick

While it is easy to buy the parts for the right money (if you can ever find slime blood for sell, i see people offering 60k for it on RN and dont have it) then yes .. it would require 1 group of high lvl for chardok, 1 group of good level for Rath mountain, then a 18 min raid.. the quest really isnt THAT easy considered the rarity of slime blood plus even the fact that it uses PoA adds to that AND the manisi herb is actually HARDER to get than before they moved it because now it requires going somewhere else out of the way of the royals and i see many groups not prepared for the place and just wipe badlly.
Am I right?

Okay, I am a lazy person, but I do want nice gear. When I want nice gear, say epic, I weigh the value of it against the trouble (time, resources, giving up opportunity to get lvls and AAs) I will have to go through doing it. I come to a conclusion that it is not worth it.

I agree with Ishtara that gaming experience (and I dont mean the lvl experience, but the mastering of killing and survival skills, using tricks and etc.) is way more important. My 65 mage has shameful gear that made my bf cry. However she kicks butt like no other and looks hot may I add.

I think epic weapons need to be improved to make them more attractive as rewards for hard labour.

Maybe I haven't payed enough attention or something, but I've never once found anyone selling Slime Blood of Cazic or Eye of Innoruuk.

As to this quest being easy, that's a riot.

First, consider what has to be done. Yes, every epic goes to the planes, but how many require god drops from both Fear and Hate? PoA quest cloak is not exactly a walk in the park if you haven't looked. And Chardok has been buffed enough that getting the manisi harb may as well be a drop from amygalans in fear, because it takes as many or more to do it.

Now ask yourself who will help you obtain these ites. If you're a cleric, your epic = ready rezzes. If you're a warrior, monk, etc, your epic = better tanking. If you're a necromancer, your epic = absolutely nothing to anyone but yourself.

Friends? Sure a friend would help. But do you honestly have 20+ close friends who are not only online at the same time, but all online long enough to reach and obtain these items?

VI has again and again refered to necromancers as a soloing class. That being the case, the necro epic should be something a necromancer, willing to invest the time, can obtain alone.
RE: ummm.
# May 14 2002 at 2:21 AM Rating: Decent
Well, you're right. The necro epic IS hard. I've been working on mine for 8 months and JUST today got the slime blood from some friends that were picking up after a guild that couldn't handle the golems. The herb is indeed harder to get because it's not on the path to get everyone else's epic so you have to make a special trip. Luckily, I diddn't have to deal with that. Nah, you wouldn't be getting friends to go kill the golems for you specificly, but you would get your guild to kill the golems for all the cool stuff they drop and hope your epic piece dropped too. I don't know how Hate works on most servers but on mine, you just go on public raids and hope the minis drop the eye. Otherwise, it's sold fairly often. Not a hard piece like the blood is. When guilds do Sky, they just go to farm epic pieces and your's is there too so yay. :) Not a rare drop either.

Also, VI never reffered to necros as the soloing class, as far as I know. Verant is publicly against soloing and is very for people grouping to get their exp. That is why necros have been given group taps and why Fungus Grove, that used to RULE for soloing has been nerfed to hell so it's very very hard to do anything but group there. They nerf stuff to make soloing harder and grouping more desireable all the time. They can't get rid of soloing and they never will try to get rid of it. But they'll make grouping as attractive as they can.
RE: ummm.

you are rigth verant whants us to group as much as we can but they dont really make us that good friendly. the group tap and others are far from making a big impact on how a group takes downa mob for xp. yes they do help but look at is this way necro and chante lfg on a zone who gets picked first? necro and shammy ? necro and wizzy?
necro and druid? necro is a very versatile class but some players dont look at it that way i say 75 percent of the players that never played a necro and are in a group rule out necro as part of their group and im not talking about necro having bad reputation but at how much dmg can we apply in the smallest amount of time. thats why most necro dicide to solo a lot i solo only when i cant find a group and still wile im soloing i advertice me lfg.

Necros dont get slash skill so they made it 1hand blunt so that their skill could be higher and not capped at 1 like it would be with slash.

Necros have no idea how to use a blade, so they just bonk people with the stick that it came with ^_^ \/
