Is a combat proc, not worn.
Worn

Just an Note - 5% of 3000 is 150 points (Not 300 )

So On an Incoming Blast of 3000 you would take 2850 Damage.

Cast on you: A faint blue aura surrounds you.
Cast on other: Soandso has been surrounded in a faint blue aura.
Effect Fades: The blue aura fades.

If it IS a procing effect it is all but worthless Unless it procs alot.

But looks like it may be from the Guard explaination of the Cast on you Effects.

Ok guys the effect is a proc that absorbs 5% of melee damage for a total of 300hp then the effect wears off until proced again.

Not a proc, that must be a typo because spell guard is a worn effect.

If you have it, a little more info would help...

The effect is 5% spell damage absorbtion for max of 300hp (so, you get hit for 3k damage from a spell, you only take 2700hp damage -- 3 ice commets, etc...).

If it's not a proc then how does that work?

A) 1 shot wonder where 300hp worth of absorbtion and it goes bye, bye?

B) 5% continuous and to hell with the 300hp limit?

C) 5% when you equip then after 300hp damage you have to unequip and reequip to get it to work again?

As a proc it matches the proc listing and would require no changes nor fancy code to get it working. As a 'worn effect' it doesn't fully match because 'something' has to give -- be it hp limit (most probable if it is worn), an auto-disolving augment (doubt it or folks will get a new definition for 'wasted points'), or equip/unequip/reequip (doubt it but possible).

Not saying you are mistaken about the proc being bogus but it does change the value of this item if it isn't a proc...

what about D) It absorbes the damage on a per hit basis, so if you get hit twice in a row by 3000 damage, ur gonna take only 2700 each time.

The type 4 augmentation item are the type for Proc on weapons. So it's not worn.

The effect is a proc when you add this on a weapon looted or bought in ldon and have the right slot.

Actually, most pre LDoN weapons have type 4 slots. Also, just because its a weapon augment, does not necessarily guarantee its a proc. You may be right on that, but it sure would be sweet to toss on my clicky stick, if its a permanent effect.

effect says combat. usually means proc.
