Augmentation Type 3
# Sep 24 2003 at 11:16 AM Rating: Decent
I noticed this has an augmentation type 3. As far as I know, all my gear only has types 1 and 4, so there's nothing that I could add this to.

Slot type 1 can take any augmentation, I believe.

I believe that is backward. Type 1 can only take the single stat augments. However, you may put a lower numbered augment into a higher numbered slot. For example, I know a guy who put a +6 resist augment (the regular dropped kind) into a type 4 slot on his weapon.

So, if that logic holds for all augment types, a type 3 should also fit into a type 4 or higher slot.

Also, nearly all pre-LDoN gear, was given type 1 slots (armor) or type 4 slots (weapons). The exception is plane of time gear, which has type 8 slots, and a few items like fungi tunic, which has no slots.

After one of the Post-LDoN patches, nearly all pre-LDoN gear has had the type 1 slots changed to type 7. I can speak from personal experience that at least type 3 augs do NOT fit into type 7 slots. This tends to make me think that the rumors that lower type augs can fit into higher-type slots is just that: a rumor.

As for your friend who put a +6 resist item into a type 4 slot, well, as every post-patch aug that I've seen drop has been Augmentation Type: Fits in any slot (not sure, but they may have been type 1 pre-patch), I suspect your friend took an aug that will fit in any slot, and wasted it in a slot that will accept a type 4 aug (typically weapon procs, which, IMHO, are MUCH better than +6 to a resist!). I don't dispute that he was able to do this, but I can't say I think its a good idea.

Yes, I can confirm that, at least since the patch, augments will NOT fit in higher numbered slots. Either it has always been this way, and the other was a rumor, or they changed it so that all old gear wouldn't be able to take EVERY augment except for the class 8 stuff.

BTW, to answer the original question, a lot of the Adventure merchant gear has type 3 slots.
Stack?

Do Dodge modifiers stack? If I got multiple Dodge modifiers, would only the highest Dodge modifier take effect or would they be cumilative?

Not 100% sure, but I think only the highest would take effect.
