I'd say purely by the numbers the twisted is better, but I enjoy seeing this one proc everynow and then. I'm also trying to up my skill, so I like the 28 delay, more shots, more chances to skill up. Love the 15 dex, which helps the proc rate, thinking about getting an aug from LDoN for the class 4 slot (assume that will work, would love input). Another consideration, if you're using higher damage arrows, logically (i.e. by the numbers, again would love input if I'm wrong) a low delay bow gets better relative to a higher delay one shooting the same arrows.
base
28/20 = 1.4 38/32 = 1.187
say 3 dam arrows
28/23 = 1.217 38/35 = 1.086
now say you have 7 dam arrows (low end cultural)
28/27 = 1.037 38/39 = 0.974
Difference in the bows went from almost 18% to less than 6 1/2% Of course this doesn't include magic damage on the Twisted bow, or the possibility of add. dam on your arrows (if you're using the cultural or acrylia ones), or the proc rate of the weapon, I'm not one of the people that has nothing better to do than parse the living day lights out of the game (though I love the data those that do provide).
Thought of one more thing, was looking through the bows around this quality ( Glimmering, Nightmarewood Combount, Innard Strung, Twisted etc. ) and noticed something, all of those are recc 50 or higher ( 53, 56, 61!). So if you're still in the lows 40s like me and want the stats stick with this. If even lower, go with Compound Driftwood, or Darkwood of Suffering (both Ykesha drops with no recc lvl, I've seen the Darkwood in the bazaar several times). Or if you still want stats at low level, the cultural bows are about as good as you'll get with the BFT (blessed faydark thunderbolt) and it's equivalent Karana bow being only recc level 20.
I haven't been playing much recently, but was on last week and this thing was proccing pretty consistently (at least every 20/30 arrows, didn't really count was kiting and upping bow skill) in the low forties.
Wow! I have had this bow proc ONCE.. I use at least 200 arrows a day and 200+ Dex. I must have REALLY bad luck. BTW the "one" time bow proced for me I was lvl 12. (Before the Nerf) Lead me to think is bugged. Still an awesome bow, even better w/ self and aug procs )
As of the patch on 3/23/2004, this no longer procs starting at level 1. I am level 31 and it does not proc any more for more. Looks like the great Nerf bat strikes down another item.
I won the roll for this the other week. I noticed it had a type 4 augment slot. There is a type 4 augment that I can buy in BBM that gives a 50 damage proc. Does anyone know if it's possible that the two procs will proc at the same time? I think the augment is rejuvinating bone fragment or something like that.
Two procs won't go off at the same time, the primary proc (in this case, Burning Arrow) is checked first. If the proc check succeeds, the augmented proc isn't checked. If the Burning Arrow proc check fails, your augmented proc is checked and then has its chance to succeed. In short -- No, you can't proc both effects at once.
I got this little baby on my lvl 28 alt Ranger. Great Baby Ranger bow. Even though the stats are diminished. I love it on my Baby Ranger. Procs alot too. Proc works at lvl 1.
One dropped in our dungeon today, off The Official something, cant remember the last part but a relativly easy kill. Lost the bow on a roll to our Shammy, grats to him.

Been wanting one of these, and after futilely trying to organize Takish LDoNs to get one, I saw it in the bazaar for 1k and snapped it up, off to play with it, will let you know how it performs
I was fourtunate to win this bow in my grp.. however since we had no ranger to give it to i was able to keep it.... i immediatly went to the bazzar to check the price because it seemed like a nice bow... there were none for sale... i did a PC numerous times and no one responded... so i set it in the trader window for a day for about 25k because i had no idea of its value... someone asked me why it was 25k and i lowered it to 20k... the next day it was gone and then i went to allakhazam to check the price and i found out i ripped the guy off... oh well his loss... really he was a re-seller
You didn't necessarily rip someone off. All EQ items are worth whatever somebody is willing to pay for them. This is a very nice ranger bow.
Besides, Allakhazam prices are not always accurate. Prices vary on how easy something is to get on server it is found as well as how many trade skillers there are and many more reasons. Plus many of the prices listed are old rendering them useless. Best thing to do is check out what other bows sell for and compare yours to theirs. Then price yours for what you would consider paying for it compared to what else you can get on the market.
im a 40 ranger with 200 acrhery skill and 235 dex...this box procs about every 100 shots..so i gave it away and got a eternal tempset compound and never looked back
I bought this item in the Stromm server Bazaar for 5k. I have shot over 100 arrows with it and have yet to see it proc. Also the damage is not as great as the Blessed Faydark stinger bow I had which cost 100p, for instance this bow would hit for around 20d with a Class 2 arrow vs the Faydark stinger would hit for around 30d and it would get critical hits consistently for up to 70d (critical hit) I am a level 51 Ranger with Dex around 150. My Archery skill is low around 76. Anyone have any idea why the Faydark Stinger would be outperforming this bow for my character ?
Okay I have been expirmenting around, I actually bought another bow to compare THe Darkwood Bow of Suffering, dmg 29 delay 34. I went ahead and spent some points on my archery skill which brought it up to 105 Archery. I found that upgrading my archery skill I got the The Gemmed Jeweled Bow to proc alot more. There seems to be a relationship between Archery ability and the bow proc because when my archery abilty was at 76 it did NOT proc at all. This bow is quick and like some of the higher level spells wont work good at all if Skill level is below normal for your level. I did notice the damage from the Darkwood Bow seemed over all better even with the proc from the Jeweled Bow because the Darkwood hit for more points of damage and it got Criticle hits for 171 DD which is higher than the Proc on the Jeweled bow.
I have used this bow since my first post here to raise my Achery skills. My archery is currently at 193 shooting thousands of arrows and using the quickness of this bow. It is not a good bow for doing damage but it is a great bow for getting your archery skill maxed out.
Name's Circ and i am buying tihs on EC'i Server, i f i get contact me, Xyzza, Darellma, or Daershop(Dareshop not a good chance othough) i want it badly , badly. Oh yea did i say iw ant it baldy?
I bought this for 3500pp when someone shouted for a price check and I thought it was worth at least 5K. Ratio-wise, it's not as great as a Blessed Faydark Thunderbolt, but the proc intrigued me so I slapped it on my Ranger and set him to shooting.
The bow procs at level 40, and with the haste from a Thunderhoof Quiver and Silver Chitin Hand Wraps it's like strapping on an Uzi. So now I'm torn on which bow to use.
I really wish SoE would give us an auto attack button for range slots. It would make bows like this very fun to use.
Dropped in Tak today. Was not a super easy fight nor hard. Forgot what mob it dropped off but it was named. We had a monk, warrior, ranger (me - woot woot), druid, chanty and cleric. Finished the mission with 15min left on kill count mission. But we waited 10 min for one of our group to return cause they went LD. So Tak was not hard with this combination of classes. And the bow is amazingly fast. And less recommended level than the Darkwood bow of suffering. I'm impressed. Graphic is a cream colored bow with a soft brown grip. Nice graphic. As for the value? who knows but I would have payed tons to replace my DBS to get this.
Dropped this morning for me off of an named tornado looking thing. It's name was Whirling Spiritstorm, the only named in the zone for us. Our goal was number of kills and we had reached it long before the time limit so we forged ahead to this guy cuz I had him on track...otherwise we would have ported out. Obviously, I'm very glad we didn't.
Dropped 3 times for us now so I'm guessing this is a pretty common item for the Tak zone. First time it Dropped off of the Chief Architect, second 2 times off of an Elven Guard (which is not an elf).
Anyone that has any more on who/where this drops, it'd greatly be appreciated. I'm looking for a good/decent bow that's sub 50 usable and has a useful proc. I'm 36 as a ranger using a Steelshaft Comppound I stole in the bazaar for 100pp. This would be a welcome upgrade for the near future, esp the dex and proc.
Wow, get busy at work (yes, I have a ob and still play this addictive time sink of a game), don't play for awhile and look at the info roll in. Thanks much, I've off to go play in the sand ;) Here's me hoping I get this by time I make the recc level, 39 now.
It dropped from the named Tazmanian Devil for us. Not much of a fight either. Cleric didn't have to heal any of us. Our group was two monks (levels 55 and 56), two rangers (my level 57, and other level 56), bard (52 level), and cleric (level 55). We finished collection mission with about 35 minutes to go, so just wandered around looking for named. This was the only one we could find. Nice bow, was given to bard for his ranger alt, because he did such a great job of pulling. The other ranger and myself decided to come back here and get one some other time.
Drops in Takish Hiz, which means any random named could drop it. Might even drop in the other themes as well. Of course, judging from the recommended level, you won't be seeing it at level 36, unless you buy it, as loot tables in LDoN are level adjusted.
I am guessing it drops from a "Jeweled Guard Hero", as their name is IN the bow. I really want this, would also be an upgrade for my Compound Steelshaft Bow Luadwen Swiftfoot Ranger of the 47th Season
Well I totally forgot to put what mob dropped this when I sent it in. This dropped off of an Elven Guard. Funny thing was it wasn't an elf at all but one of the golem type looking creatures (you know the big rock like mobs). Awesome bow didn't have any rangers in our group so we all rolled and the enchanter won it. I wouldn't go hunting every elven guard in the area though I believe alot of the items are random.
