no DS

lvl 44 pally with this equiped I don't see any none melee damage to my target message when it hits me, therefore I would conclude that it only works when you already have a DS up, or it is level restricted.......by the way the Graphic sucks! it looks like a saucer on your wrist Pft!

I think it only adds to a damage shield that's cast on you. So it doesn't do anything on its own.

Tested on 55 Paladin;
Item worn without Damage Shield buff = NO damage shield

Item worn with Damage Shield buff = add 2 to current Damage Shield damage

Item worn with Mark of Retribution cast on target = NO bonus to Reverse Damage Shield

2cp: This item is junk, considering you can get a shield with comparable stats and better graphics for 500pp or less in the bazaar. I wouldn't pay for one (again) Lol

looking at the pricing, these things are way overpriced on the 7th hammer server, 9-10k in the bazaar, at least i got one on an adventure
Dual wield...
# Oct 21 2003 at 10:55 AM Rating: Default
As a Warrior, should I go with this instead of dual wielding? Here is my Magelo with what I have on now and in my bags what I can bring to bear...: Lidium

You should go to the EZBoard Warrior site for more expert advice. I have a Paladin and was looking at this but decided against it. If my Pally was in his 30's or 40's it would be great. From what I've read warriors would only equip a shield in situations where they may be the only means to disrupt a caster.

But the main reason I think you should forgo this for dual wielding is your second weapon will produce more agro than this. DS's don't produce agro although bash does.
Its now a shield

This now works as a shield so you can Bach whit it, so it is now useful, but it docent look weary good.

Apparently this is just a secondary item that looks like a shield, remember shield of the slain unicorn? notice that monks and beastlords can use it....in my opinion it should be a shield but apparently it wasnt meant to be and i doubt it ever will be
Mob
# Sep 20 2003 at 8:00 PM Rating: Decent
Looted from a spiritbound ambassador in a kill 56 of anything mission in Rujhills hidden vale, this mob didnt even spawn until we killed 60 mobs and then we took him out easily with chain stuns and nukes. our group was 51-56 hope this helps
Bug this!
# Sep 17 2003 at 12:46 PM Rating: Decent
Submit bug reports until this is fixed. Shields should be able to be used in Bash, otherwise why should I even carry one around.
not a shield
# Sep 15 2003 at 8:02 PM Rating: Decent
when i put it on i couldnt bash it said it wasnt a shield??
Effect wrong
# Sep 15 2003 at 4:47 PM Rating: Default
The effect is "Shield of Pain II" not "Shield of Pain"

Shield of Pain II = 2pt DS
RE: Effect wrong
# Sep 16 2003 at 5:39 AM Rating: Default
Actually Shield of Pain II is +2pt DS so it adds to the one you have up and if you have none up its a 2pt DS

That's really the same thing as ALL damage shields. They all just have the effect of increasing your current damage shield rathing by a certain amount (that's why damage shields don't have a resist stat, cause the system doesn't keep track of what source each component is).

The thing is most damage shields don't stack with most other damage shields. The stackability is what makes this (and the aura line of regen and the flowing thought line of mana regen) interesting.

But a druid damage shield would do the same thing if put on a character that already had a bard damage shield.
