Easiest quest ever
# Jul 11 2001 at 1:33 AM Rating: Decent
This quest is not hard at all, I went over to High Hold Pass after i had spent only 8GP to get the first page from Moordoro Finharn(I know, I got lucky on that one! 8p) I then proceded to wait in line to camp Dyllin Starshine to get the other part. There was one other person ahead of me who said he had been there for two hours, I had nothing better to do seeing as how I didn't have to work the next day, so I popped in a movie and waited, and waited, and waited. The person who was in front of me went LD all of the sudden, and for the next hour he never appeared. Dyllin still hadn't popped, and by that time it was about 4AM(I started camping him at midnight). I stupidly fell asleep and while I was dozing Dyllin popped and the other guy came back online. He killed him and sent me a tell, saying that he had done so, and gave me the time: 5AM. So I waited again and he finally popped again at 12:20 PM, I waited for the wandering red smuggler(by the way, he's level 40 for your info) to go down towards the water and rooted Dyllin and nuked him to death, he didn't even hit me once, and never broke the root, which kind of suprised me, seeing as how I was dumb and chose the worst possible race for a druid(Half-Elf, way bad wis). Anyways, I did this at level 22, but I'm sure that it can be done much lower than that, all you have to do is make sure that the red smuggler has walked away to the right, towards the water before you attack Dyllin, and the testament is yours! Very nice item for druids, and other classes as well, and although it is a very boring camp, it is well worth it, I reccomend it for anyone who isn't rich enough to buy a CGS, which in my opinion is better(I'd rather have 10ac then 1 wis any day!p) My $.02

If the red smuggler was forty for you, then his spawns must vary. I had a friend who was 40th level (guildmate, +1 other from guild) with me on this camp, and the smuggler was red to him. Got my Testament after a 6 hour camp, and really only asked for guild help beacuse some KS'ers showed up, and threatened to steal my kill. We rooted him (took a couple tries) and 3 nukes later he was dead. Smugs attacked when I was about to loot, so I div aura'd myself, looted, then ran and zoned. Only took about 100hp damage, including the fall. Very nice item! Glad it's no drop or the KS attempts would be even worse. BTW, we had see invis cast, and caught several high levels trying to sneak in invised, presumably to KS. Hailed one, he just said "OK" and ran away. Long camp, quick fight for a good item. Other players do more to make this hard than the camp itself.
Dyllin is dead

AS much as I hate to say it.. I got toasted.

I was n Misty getting some Imbued Studded Leather armor (Karana) from a friend. Decided to take a walk over to Highpass and check things out.

I walked in hit track and BOOM. There he is. He got lucky the first time cuz the red (at 32) smuggler got hold of me first. Second time.... I win.

I've tried camping him before with no luck. Wonder why I decided to go???

I did this quest yesterday, lvl 22 cleric. I had gotten to dillon's spawn the night before around 3am to see 4 people camping him so I bound on the karana side went back to the camp and logged. The next day I started camping him about 4pm a few people came up to camp also but left after realizing someone else was there. About 8:30pm he popped I was the only one there. I waited for the red smuggler to go to that lil ramp turn and start walking to the water root and smite (94 dd)then beat on him with my mace smiting all the way. The green smuggler that wanders soon got in to the mess. I finally killed dillon just in time to see the red smuggler back and smacking on me. I casted Divine Aura looted the corpse knowing that 18 seconds wasn't gonna be enough time I at least wanted the page on my corpse. Had I been able to get rid of Dillon before the red smuggler came back I would have easily had 1/2 hp left. Sure enough I was dead before I hit the water BUT the page was mine and was on my corpse. Ran back the smugglers were dubious to me before still were. Looted and combined the pages.

I had gotten the book the day before from Moordo whatever his name is.. gave him 2 gp and I only had to give him 8gp to get the jester card!

This was my first quest where I had to "camp" something and it was rather easy if boring. I think it's a good item for an easy camp for someone to do that is still understanding the whole quest camping thing.
ToV: Lots of time, Small reward
# Jun 28 2001 at 12:54 PM Rating: Decent
I did this quest in my late 20's and a week after obtaining the ToV, bought a Charred Guardian Shield for 400p and have never used the ToV since.

The extra mana from the one additional point of wis you get from the ToV does not offset the benefit of an offhand AC10 item.

The reason for acquiring wis items is not so much the extra mana that you get from them as to get to the magic 200 wis which is supposed to have a beneficial effects on your abilities as a caster.

Each wis point only gives you level/5 mana up to wis 200 and then only 1 mana per 1 wis afterwards.

At level 25, this is a wopping 5 additional mana from the extra wis on the ToV. At 60 it SOARS to a mighty 12 mana. If the ToV were easier to obtain, or the CGS much harder to come by, then I would say the ToV is worth the big camp. But unfortunately the ToV is not easy and the CGS is cheap and readily available.

At level 44 my wis is currently 194. I may dust off my ToV if I get to 199 and want a quick 1 wis extra to push me to 200, but soon I should get one of the other big wis items (GEBs being the one I am pursuing now) which will put me several points over 200 in one swell foop and let me start swapping out wis gear for ac and resist equipment.

Every high level priest class I know advises going for wis until 200, then ac while maintaining wis at or above 200, and then resist gear after that. The lone exception is the ToV/CGS tradeoff where the CGS is considered more bang for the buck/time. I have seen plenty of 50+ players running around STILL carrying CGS's.

Unless you want to spend the time on the camp, do yourself a favor and buy a CGS. Or if you are high enough level, go get one yourself in combat.

If you insist on doing the camp, try this: Bind yourself up against the wall opposite where starshine pops. Gate there and camp each night before you quit for the eve. Make sure you have full mana and buffs before you camp (in case he is there when you log back in). This way you check twice each eve. If you are a druid you can also just gate there from where you are hunting and port back to your hunting spot several times a night. Doing this got me the ToV in two weeks.

This camp is one of the most boring camps i have ever done. i saw him spawn and started killing him then some other cleirc killed him and looted the page. so i had to wait 7 hrs, till 2:oo in the moring, to kill him and had to call a mage friend in the middle of the night and have him help me kill it then i had to travel to qeynos spen bout 10pp on the other stuff i do not reccomend doing this camp if you dotn have to or have lots of patiences and money. but i have it and it is a 7 hr spawn to set the reccord straight and the 10 wis is not needed to verant

Hey! Smugglers Mob!!
# Jun 25 2001 at 10:45 PM Rating: Default
In response to so many saying the smugglers don't mob, other than the level 40, I am here to say YES THEY DO!! Although, I am not calling you liars, most of you were too high level to worry about getting killed by anything but the 40. Well, after waiting my spot in line (uber thanks to Marten the druid on Torvo for holding my spot when I crashed for 2 hours!!) Dyllin finally spawned (and an hour and a half early by my timing!)and I went after him. I was 20 at the time, and barely 20 at that, so one of the smugglers was low low low blue to me. He agroed. Well, I died three times in that fight, never thought the blue one would agro. However, everytime I respawned, I memmed Grasping Roots and Ignite (Ignite because it casts fast, and has the best cost/damage ratio) and went after Dyllin as the other smuggler pounded me. Undinging never felt so good when I saw Dyllin go down! Of course, I lost quite a lot more than the other guy who undinged so I didnt get back to 20, but you know what, all of you out there with a prist class will admit its well worth it! When you kill Dyllin (and you will if you are reading this) I highly recommend Root, Snare, Ignite Ignite Ignite! It may not drop him quickly, but in case of break or mob, old trusty Ignite will save you. Casts fast (less than their time needed to swing a fist!) costs little, and does much better damage for the cost than Careless Lightning, at least at 20.
My first Quest
# Jun 25 2001 at 1:00 PM Rating: Excellent
As a cleric of 27 summers I decided I had to have this item! After hiring my trusty bodyguard (Amylou - 27 warrior) we set off. As noted above we skipped the first part and had no problems getting the container and the first page.

After a harrowing walk we finally arrived at Dyllin's spawn point, only to find two other PCs waiting. 12 hours later (with a visit from a GM to settle their dispute) Dyllin popped and was slain by my bodyguard (he was green to me, but a cleric never knows).

Was it worth the effort and wait? YES!

I thought this quest was easy. I camped dillyn from 12-8 after a 2 hour wait...really i just slept when i took it over and woke up right before he spawned. i got killed by the walking smuggler first time i tried to kill him, but ran right back in and finished him off...over all it was easy
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 18 2001 at 9:28 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Gnorts you said you had 213 wis at level 4, but the max wis anyone can get is 200, dummy, so stop lying
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 19 2001 at 2:36 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ok think before you flame someone, just because you can't get your abilities that high doesn't mean it cant happen. I dont know bout wisdom, but my str has been about 220 for a while now, so abilities can go above 200. I've heard that the adjustment past 200 is way low tho, and that 225 is as high as you can go (hope to disprove this ;P)

BANJOE'S GUIDE TO THETESTAMENT OF VANEAR
# Jun 18 2001 at 12:15 AM Rating: Default
A tip for people camping Dyllin. There is a real nasty smuggler that goes from (as you look at Dyllin) right to the left, up the stairs, waits a bit, comes down the stairs walks right in front of you and stops just to the right. I believe he cons blue to 50th characters SO WATCH YOURSELF. If you attack Dyllin around this smuggler he goes nuts and lays waste.

TIP get real close to the Smuggler just before Dyllin POPS (or just after if you are quick). When the Smuggler walks from the right to the left, then cast Harmony on the Smuggler (YES I KNOW THERE WILL BE SOME OF YOU OUT THERE THAT SAY YOU CANT CAST THIS ON SOMEONE THAT HIGH. BUT YOU CAN. HAVE DONE IT AND PASSED IT ON TOO OTHER CAMPERS MANY TIMES). You will get the Harmony display on your spell menu. This gives you just enough time to beat the living tar out of Dyllin as the ~50 Level Smuggler walks past you in Harmonised bliss.

Oh and by the way. Dont forget /shout Dyllin is camped about once an hour. Is the best item for a druid. It rocks and i still use it. Worth the wait. Perhaps logging in after a patch will help the spawn time.

REGARDS AND BEST OF LUCK

I'm a lvl 18 druid and after visiting this page I went to Highkeep to see where the spawn was at. I walked in and went by the over and guess who was there. I quickly rooted, nuked, looted and gated out with page 30 and the letter. The rest was a cake walk. Hope others get that lucky.
CGS is Charred Guardian Shield
# Jun 10 2001 at 10:07 PM Rating: Default
I think the 9 wisdom shield you're referring to as the CGS is the Charred Guardian Shield. It has +9 WIS and 10 AC. The Clay Guardian Shield is +50 HP and 25 AC.

I would agree, however, that it is a very good shield for paladins and clerics, and it's a rather easy camp in Sol A. You just go to the gnome side where the entrance to their castle is and search the bridges over lava for a wandering clockwork. The wanderer is a place holder for the Clockwork EXG, which drops the shield as a common, and the Charred Guardian Breastplate as a rare.

I easily soloed the clockwork twice to get a shield for myself, and one for a guildmate, and you don't lose much faction with the gnomes for just a couple dead robots. Compared to shields like the Aegis of Life, the CGS is a joke to acquire.

CGS vs Vanear
# Jun 09 2001 at 10:16 PM Rating: Decent
Hm, what to choose what to choose... Clay Guardian Shield or Testament of Vanear?
Is you can afford it, choose CGS, especially if you're a Cleric. I read a few people say "Clerics don't need AC." I am amazed at the fact that yes, there ARE that many out-right idiots who play Clerics. Clerics need AC. This is the reason they can wear plate armor. Why do they need AC? They don't tank! Naw, I would've never guessed.. Clerics need AC because Clerics get hate easily. If you have more than 1 spawn, many times tanks forget to taunt adds. When a Cleric heals, the adds will aggro.. if you heal too much and tanks aren't doing their jobs, any mob will aggro. Someone who tells you Clerics don't need AC is either not a Cleric or a dead Cleric.
CGS IS.....

CGS stands for Clay Guardian Shield, a +9 wisdom +10AC shield

RE: CGS or ToV
# Jun 07 2001 at 11:35 PM Rating: Default
For you dwarven clerics out there, AC is not worth anything, except when your getting aggro'd by a monster. Otherwise, when exactly do you fight? if you tank, then ask yourself why, and if you cast, then good job! Point being, clerics dont need AC!

I managed to get my copy early Saturday morning (June 2nd). Over the course of three successive spawns (the one before me, mine and the next one) Dylin spawned in less than seven hours each time. About six hours and forty minutes, give or take ten minutes or so.

While I waited for the elusive Dylin to spawn I made sure to time the patrols of the two smugglers. The high level one spends just over a minute on the trip up to the lookout, but spends about two and a half minutes on his trip to the water. Druids should have an easy time of this if they simply Harmony both wandering smugglers and make sure that Dylin can't run.

At 18th level it took me five roots over the course of the combat to ensure Dylin didn't run (he resisted two and broke two). In the time that it took me to get him rooted, DOTed and snared (just in case) he had taken me down about 1.5-2 health bubbles and he looked to be in slightly better shape than me. I was a little worried at this point but I kept going in melee because I was terrified at the thought of the red smuggler's return. Once I started Igniting him though the tide turned and by the time the fight was over I still had two bubbles left and Dylin never took a step from his spawn point.

I can't stress enough the fact that you can't let Dylin move and you have to respect that red smuggler. The next person to try after me was a 23rd level druid. I gave her all the same tips that I just wrote above but she did something wrong because when I returned about 15 minutes after Dylin's spawn time I found her lying in a heap in the middle of the smuggler area.

Now, Dylin is a wily little fellow because once he killed the other druid he decided standing in the middle of the patral area was much safer than his little lean-to and the Shaman who was next to get him was nearly frantic. She was actually supposed to have been next to get a shot at Dylin but she went linkdead about five minutes before he spawned. Nightmares do come true for some unfortunate people. Luckily for her the druid after her screwed up and I just happened to come back to check things out. After a desperate "PLEASE HELP ME!" I harmonied the two patrolers and gave her the go ahead. Herself and a guildmate made quick work of poor Dylin. (If your reading this: Hello Rauny!)

Summation: this is not a hard camp and should be extremely easy for druids, somewhat more difficult for others. If you make sure to time your attack when the red smuggler is going to the water then you should have plenty of time to drop Dylin before his return. The other patroling smuggler isn't quite as much of a concern.

Just the waiting for the spawn takes a long time. I recommend taking a druid with you and having him harmony allthe smugglers in the room just after he pops. I'm a druid and got it very easily at lvl 22. Rooted and nuked, he went down easy. Then I was done.

i read these posts forever, then decided to camp him... 1 hour before spawn another troll decided he was gonna ksteal me and stayed invis near spawn, he said later he was there for hours, since the last guy (a guildmate of his) killed him and he was sitting invis with "his face in the book" well i called in my guild to help prevent ksteal and he did the same, he ran to water to lead guild to spawn and dyllin spawned, i harmonied all i saw then killed him (i was nervous about being backstabbed) took loot and left camp to the troll like i was surrendering to him HAHA

AND I HAVE A TIME LIMIT!The first thing i did was i went to highpass untill i found a lake. I swam in that lkae until i found a hole that leads to a camp. There are SMUGGLERS there not BANDITS. What were you thinking? Any way the spawn time is 6 hours not 7. And i got the jestercard on my 6 try. Also i died 4 times while killing dyllan.
