lvl....

I heard from a reliable source that the quest can only be achieved at 12th level for enchanters with religion, and then only with Alliance and illusion Dark Elf.

Oops meant BOOK not coin in the first part of last post.
Religion sucks!
# May 01 2001 at 6:59 AM Rating: Default
Ditto. Was just about to make the same post. I tried running in and giving him the coin, but the guard smacked me dead. I then tried giving the book while invisible, and again dead. I cast alliance, and this did not help. Even though all the Ogres conned indifferent this guard kept smoking me. In the info on this site it says the minimum level to complete the quest is 8. Can I create a lvl 1 Ogre, drop the bartender book in a remote spot, grabit with my ogre get the stein, and do the drop the stein and switch again? Would a root spell on the guard work?

Well when I started my Enchanter, I made the mistake of choosing a (god, religion). Is there any way to do this quest without being agnostic?

Thanks

Sure, I just completed the quest as an Erudite 12th level Enchanter who has a god (forget who) - picked up all the pieces for the compendium at level 9 and waited until 12 to finish it. Went in as a DE with invis, dropped the invis and cast alliance on Clurg. Asked "what stein of moggok", got a response (I conned amiable) and handed him the compendium - up 1 stein later I gated my butt out of there.... hope this helps

Cheers

Edited because the old info was pretty much useless at the time and still is, however, I can post some actual useful info now. When posted here originally, my chanter was 5, so I didn't know for squat what I was talking about, lol.

Anyway, I eventually got my Erudite, Prexus-worshipping Enchanter to 12, and it proved to be no problem at all to do the final turn-in to Clurg. I don't know about other enchanters, with other dieties, but I know Prexus doesn't get in the way of completing the Stein of Moggok quest and now with PoP, you can run this quest in 30 minutes to an hour, depending on if the Koalindls are giving up their bodies. I use a human sk mule to kill them, and it's actually quite fun to do so. "Oops, I agro'd the Paladin in the water... oops, he refreshed my HT... Time to die, A Koalindl!"

Anyway, just browsing thru my old posts and thought I'd replace some old "wah wah, will my lvl 5 be able to do this so I can buy good gear for my 20-whatever ranger?" with "I'm 52 now, and have a 32 druid, and have a bazillion other characters and I know what I'm talking about now..." LOL, have fun with this quest guys.

Not before lv12

I made the unfortunate error of attempting this quest as an 11th lv High-Elf Enchanter. I was able to amass all the components needed and was awarded the bartenders compendium. I then proceeded to head to Ogguk. I used my illusion gnome spell (cause I falsely heard that this would work), turned invisible and proceeded to find Clurg. I then broke my invisibility by casting Alliance--to boost my faction--and was promply killed (not even finishing the spell) by Clurg and the Bouncer beside him! I tried the whole thing again (after finding my corpse) ignoring the alliance and simply broke my invisibility by giving the book to Clurg. I quickly hit the 'give' button, lost the book entirely, and was killed in one fell swoop!

After reaching 12th level I did the quest again, used illusion dark elf and alliance...no problem--stein in hand!

The moral? Do not attempt the final part of this quest in Ogguk until you have illusion dark elf.

This quest is very easy for an enchanter. I did it the first time at level 12. I'm doing it again to make some quick cash. I strongly recommend doing it for any low level chanters that need more int or pp.
Recharge? In a way....
# Mar 30 2001 at 11:41 AM Rating: Default
Sure I recharge mine. Well, sort of....

If I run out of Light Heal (caster soloing needs it from time to time), I just sell that one and do the quest again. Fresh stein, light heal intact. But it's only 3 charges, not 5.

Is there a real way to recharge the SOM? If so what is it? Just wondering.

Excellent if you are Trade skilling
# Mar 14 2001 at 5:45 AM Rating: Default
INT is what makes you skill up faster when you start a trade skill. I am a master-smith and this stein helped out perfectly. I purchased one in ECommons for 150pp and it was well worth it.

Intelligence OR Wisdom is what helps you with trade skills. As a Pally, you should have higher Wis than Int, so this won't help at all. Sell it, get a charred guardian shield, or if you can't afford that, quest the Testament of Vanear. It's +10 Wis, +10 mana, and a 30th level should have no problem with Dyllin Starshine. Just read the quest info on this site about the "red" smuggler and his pathing. The other smugs should basically just bounce off you, they only were hitting my l19 cleric for 10-20pts, with good buffs (ac about 450)

Is it possible to recharge this?
RE: Recharge?
# Mar 22 2001 at 7:28 PM Rating: Default
This is a rampant rumor I have heard from three independent sources. But I am told if you put the stein into the bank for 24 played (i.e. RL) hours it will fully recharge.

Now, who would put a +10 int item out of play for 24 hours for 5 charges of light healing is beyond me but as a profession practicing int based caster, I'm thinking I'd rather have the +10 int for that day.

But if anyone is in the position to test this theory, go for it. :)

That light heal that you refer to so nastily can really come in handy if you're a Necromancer like me and something goes wrong.
