It works fine, just completed it with agnostic dark elf at lvl 8. alliance works too, went from aprehensive to indifferent to hand in book. why? old times sake. many items much better in the bazaar.
Be warned if you should feel like doing this quest I think it has been nerfed.
I have an agnostic enchanter and I cannot get the Ogre's to let me do the turn ins. I've slaughtered many Dwarf guards and still nothing. I cannot even do the newbie Lizardman Meat quest to raise faction. Clurg and the Warrior guildmaster are indifferent to me, and its not good enough.
I've finally raised my faction enough to do the Lizardman Meat quest and after tons of tons of turn ins Clurg still does not like me well enough and the alliance line of spells do not work on him anymore. As much as I would like to do this quest for old times sake it just doesn't seem I am going to be able to. I've tried Ogre illusion and DE illusion both to no avail.
Hi All. Just trying this quest so my chanter could bake some more and as of today Frostbite is still broken. After reading many posts on other pages and such, I see that you must now cast identify on the Regurgitonic to see if it's bad or not. Guess I'll try that and go get a new one. That's a long run if it is so I would try it before you run all the way back to Frostbite in West Karana. Hope this helps everyone.
Mezmerado <Bonds of Honor> Level 38 Enchanter on Stromm
Lucy lists two steins (1HBlunt and normal). My guess (and I haven't read all the posts below - too many of them) is that the 1H Blunt version was an old reward for the quest and now the quest gives the non weapon version. This assumption is partly based on item numbers (6359 vs. 13380) and that I've not seen the 1HB version around.
I've been away from EQ entirely for two years, and I've got some knowledge gaps. Maybe you can help me with this one:
My Stein of Moggok matches the description above; it's primarily an INT item for me, not a weapon. But Magelo shows it as a 1HB weapon (6/28, which isn't great but not too bad). Are the new steins weapons? Was my stein a weapon two years ago and I don't remember it? And now it's not? What's up here?
I assume lvl 8 is because A Darkelf Enchanter can do this at 8. Id like to still think he/she would be agnostic. And still need to use "Alliance"
I hope this guy about 5 posts down is wrong, I hope they have not nerfed this. I now have a lvl 12 Highelf Enchanter, Agnostic. I have made several alt enchanters in my time, and stripped and remade them. With another Highelf Enchanter I did this whole quest, DarkElf form and all, but I forgot to cast alliance on the FINAL guy!!! I assume that would have raised him up one standing from indiferent or whatever to Aimiable. He basically thanked me for the book, and explained I should leave before I would be crushed.
I'd therefore assume an agnostic Darkelf would also have to cast alliance. If she chose whatever god Ogres are, she would not, but would suffer a lot as a chanty in her days. (if they can even pick that god)
So I am assuming the lvl and faction is all based on this one spell. I really do not want to wait untill 20 to get this (being Ogre Illusion)
So I hope they just did what I did, and frgot to cast and are mistaken.
just cast alliance on the last guy anyway, eventually you will get to where you can run the whole quest with NO spells except gate, grabbing sows or buying potions helps but isnt necessary, im doing it in 20-30 mins depending on fish drops (i gave up and used 2nd char to kill koalindls), im actually warmly to clurg. ran it as a chanter worshiping quellious, and even the bashers are dubious. did it about 15 times though.
i got this for my 2 wizzy which is my alt and i got ir for 200 pp on bertxxlous server.its not up to 1 K around 500 max and 100 lowest. it does good stats but not many stats mainly the INT.
2 wizzy <legions of pain> also 27 BST <legions of pain>
Does anyone please have information about the alternative version of the Stein of Moggok. According to the Lucy database -http://lucy.fnord.net/item.html?entryid=62451 - the item went live in April but I have never heard another thing about it. The alternate stein has the same stats except it is also a 1HB weapon with combat effect of healing instead of 3 charges. please let me know. thanks
"God created man from a handful of dust, and he created woman from that man's rib. And these two together were so stupid that they weren't on the planet five minutes when they managed to get a curse put on all future generations. Nice work." Pat Condell
so... wait. I have never seen a procking item WITH charges. so does that mean it has 5 charges that will go off whenever in combat? Or does that mean it has that effect AND 5 charges? because some of the other items with that as a combat side effect are like lvl 60....
Because of a new patch, enchanter's illusion line of spells have been nerfed quite a bit. They can no longer change into a Dark Elf and have faction modifiers for anyone besides Dark Elves. To do this quest the easy way for an enchanter of the light you MUST have the level 20 Ogre illusion spell or the Ogres WILL kill you! I hate Verant for nerfing them so badly...*sigh*
WRONG! I have a Chanter, Erudite as a matter of fact, and he does this quest all the time. JUST casting DE illusion puts him at Apprehensive with Oggok Guards, whereas before casting, he is KoS.
Unfortunately Jadbalja, I don't believe this item is rechargeable. On the bright side, this quest is amazingly short to do, as long as you stock up on Kiola Nuts so you don't have to ride the boat every time.
I have been doing this quest with my Gnome enchanter for some time as a way to fund his trade skills. I went for another stein this evening and when I gave the regurgitonic to Frostbite he refused it telling me that he had no use for the item.
It's easier to camp in the Temple of Life in Qeynos, then make a human warrior and kill fish make sure there is a fish on corpse then camp log main and loot saves running around.
Not warrior, make yourself an ubar Shadowknight.... why? first off, faction. Second off, harm touch. So you dont have to level the stupid mule. I had to get to about 3, so the fish did not run off. he will run, running bad, shiney knight SQUASH you... I suppose you could make anything human that can start in Quenos, I chose SK for those reasons. now one HT and bam, fish parts.
But seriously, this quest has been messed up a LOT by bugs. I waited until 31 for my enchanter to get it because 1) I am cheap and wanted to quest it myself, and 2) I waited until they apparently fixed it for good before I wasted the compendium.
The only thing was I got past the Frostbite part but forgot to take off invis when I did the hand-in in Ogguk. The lovely bartender ate my compendium and didn't even ask for seconds. /sigh, those Ogres and their table manners.
Last time I did this it was mid May I believe. For a couple of years that this quest exists Frostbite was bugged-fixed-bugged again half of the time. Make sure Ur faction is OK with Barbies & redo regurgitonic part. Good luck.
Yeah, I remember back when there was only eq classic chanties were always paying me to whack out koa fish so they didn't lose faction just so they didn't have to worry bout that dog bug. Dunno why they didn't just make an sk, but 25pp sounded pretty good to a lvl9 magi back then! ACtually...sounds good to a 52 magi now....mmm...money...
(Note: This is a dupe post from the Quest page...just in case someone reads one but not the other)
Okay, not so much a safety tip as a "Damn, now I have to do that all again" prevention tip.
I made level 12 tonight and decided to run the quest.
Made a trip to OOT and bought a dozen or so Kiola Nuts (Yes, I plan on doing this one several times) They were just over 1 gold each, and there was no price difference between Indifferent and Amiable faction. Illusion: Wood Elf
The Eruds Tonic was easiest of all of 'em. No negative faction hits, and a positive for EruditeCitizens or some such. less than a gold for the Kiss of Death. No Illusion, as I am an Erudite.
HoneyComb was probably the most annoying, since I couldn't find a bixie with one to save my life. I was using my ranger to track 'em. Finally managed to get enough, though. Also found what may be a bixie spawn point in E Commons and got lucky buying 6 off the vendor nearby. About a gold each. Illusion: Halfling and an Alliance (which probably wasn't needed)
The Fish: Chose the No Negative Faction method. Lotta running, but what the hell. A time saver for other who will be doing this repeatedly- After you get teh Regurgitonic and head back for W Karana, swing by Surefall on your way and get a new Nitrate. One less run next time. No cost. Illusion: Gnome for Regurgitonic and Illusion: Human with an Alliance for the Nitrates and Frostbite.
Handed them all in to the SeaFarer's Roost (Illusion: Human + Alliance. Probably necessary, but didn't feel like testing to find out)
Headed off to Ogguk. Illusion: Dark Elf works fine to get in. The Bartender is way the hell in the back of the zone. Don't forget to reapply Illuson if you aren't really a Dark Elf Here's that Tip I mentioned.... Alliance only works on one NPC at a time (I tested after the fact) First time out, I allianced him, then the bouncer...and didn't recheck him. He ate my book.
Second time, I just Allianced him...no problem, and my faction at turn in was Indifferent.
I think I can probably do the whole thing in under 30 minutes at this point...assuming I have the Honeycomb and Kiola Nut to start out with.
Total cost (even buying the honeycomb from Vendors): around 4 plat.

Can a high elf mage do this quest pretty well or would he have a difficult time doing it?
As far as I know, the only class that can pull this quest off is an Enchanter. Even with the new illusion potions, you'd still have to have good enough faction with the Orges to get them to work with you. Enchanters have spells to raise their faction, you don't.
It's not a bug. Occasionally you'll be given bad Regurgitonic by the zookeeper in Ak'Anon. You can have the 'Identify' spell cast on it to confirm that. Just destroy that one, get another, and try again.
A quicker way to get a koalindl fish is to make a human warrior and start them in Qeynos. Camp your main guy by the pond and load your warrior. Even at lev. 1 the warrior can kill the fish, once you see a corpse, load your main guy and loot the koalindl fish corpse.
This may be a dumb question...I keep seeing people talk about enchanters using the DE illusion for Clurg. Is there a problem using the Ogre illusion (if you are already high enough level to ast it)?
I play a high elf wizard on the test server (so everything bad that can happen, happens here first). I started following the directions (found on http://www.graffe.com) and guess what, half of the items are no drop. So I gathered the rest of the stuff, turned it in for the compendium, and it's no drop. How on earth is a wizard supposed to get one of the better items available for +int if they've nerfed the ability to pass anything onto an enchanter! While I'm not KOS to most of the Ogres, I am to the bouncers. I tried turning it in once already and ended up losing the compendium (you are an enemy to us, leave while you still can), and then getting my rear handed to me by one of the bouncers. I couldn't even gate fast enough. This is crazy. Any ideas anyone?
You get it by buying it from an enchanter. Unless you want to spend countless hours working on faction with many different races and cities.
They used to sell for around 200pp (on Terris Thule) in the pre-bazaar days. Now they're slightly more expensive.
The reason enchanters can do it and the rest of us can't is that they have not only racial illusion spells, but also the "alliance" spell which increases their faction with individual NPCs.
If you really don't want to spend the money for it, create an enchanter, level up to 8 or 12, depending on the race you choose, and do the quest yourself. That's exactly what I did when I was lower level. My little DE enchantress supported 2 accounts worth of toons doing this quest numerous times.

Can someone help me too? I am a level 9 Erudite Enchantress. I went to Kimble Nothrop (spelling?) and tried to get him to turn the nitrates into regurgatonic and he was a bit rude LOL So I cast Alliance and he gave it to me. Cast Alliance on Frostbite and he coughed up the fish. Cast Alliance in Rivervale and got the Honey Jum. Turned the ingrediants into the guy at the Seafarers and got the compendium. Put the compendium in the bank. Guess I got a bit greedy because I did it all again, tried to give the ingrediants to the guy and he gave me 2PP and no book.
Figured I'd give the book to Clurg. Invisible all the way through Ogguk, got into the bar, clicked on Clurg to cast Alliance, invisible went away - BAM! Guard knocked me down flat with one blow! Tried it again by using Illusion:Half Elf - BAM! on my butt again. Why does this site say that a level 8(9) Enchanter can do the quest when you don't even get to USE the Illusion:Dark Elf spell until level 12? And I haven't seen anyone mention using Illusion:Ogre, can this be done? What can I do as a level 9 Enchantress to get my stein?
Illusion: Ogre is a lvl 20 spell. Even at lvl 12, becoming a Dark Elf and casting Alliance is not a gaurantee that you will get the stein for the book, depending on your natural faction. However at lvl 20 you also get a better faction spell, so any enchanter can do this once they hit lvl 20.
A lvl 8 Dark Elf Enchanter can do this quest cause that is when we get Alliance, but the rest of us Enchanters have to wait till level 12 cause that is when we get Illusion Dark Elf.

Give Captain Rohand brandy, and LOTS of it. Man, that guy has a thirst that just won't quit. I am not sure of all the factions it increases, but I went from apprehensive to ally doing only this. I believe the good guards are on the same faction.

I would think killing gnolls just like the newbies do but I'm not sure if there is an easier way if your not KoS already you could try doing quests but that might take awhile and can be extremely boring, you should just go to Blackburrow and kill everything you can soon enough they'll like you.
Anyone got any tips or a guide for a Dark Elf mage to do this quest? Seems that you need to be enchanter for the easiest results. My bro has a 25 druid and he can make some newbies for the fish part, but what could I do about the rest? Can you do most of this invised?
? Last I checked, my druid could still talk to all the Ogres in Feerott (and presumably Ogguk, since those are mostly the same factions) while in wolf form. Wolf form only effects faction in Old-world zones IIRC, and has no effect (or a negative effect) on faction in any of the expansion zones. I don't know where you got your info about it being nerfed post-PoP, but it was not.
What I want to know is why my Bear Form spell doesn't fool ANYONE...not bears, not NPCs, not anyone, not anywhere.
I mean, it's like a bad joke..."A bear and a wolf walk into a bar, and the bartender says 'HEY, Shaman, keep your wolf pet outside', and the wolf says 'I'm not a wolf pet, I'm a Druid!'"
Sorry, but you are mistaken Zepherous. I did this quest easily with my Bard using the level 11 Song-Cinda's Charismatic Carillon that boost faction up with NPC's.
The part in Oggok can be done in Wolf form. You can either be a Druid (obviously) or recruit a friendly Druid to Wolf Form you inside Oggok itself. After you do this quest several times you'll be non-KOS in Oggok in your normal form. Even a Tunare-worshipping Wood Elf druid can walk the streets of Oggok safely (in elf form) after doing this quest a half-dozen times or so.
I have been doing the stein quest a lot recently and last week I tried to turn the regurgitonic into frostbite, but he said "I do not need that item" and gave it back to me. I tried again today with the PoP expansion hoping it was a bug and was fixed but no luck. Anyone have any ideas. BTW this is on the Tribunal server.
Update: My faction was a little screwed, but I fixed it to where I am now indifferent. Still no luck with Frostbite. Going to try to get my faction to kindly and see what happens.
I had a similar problem. No matter how many times I tried I just could not get Frostbite to take the regugatonic. i destroyed it, got the flask again, went to Ak'anon to get the regurgatonic, and when I came back, Frostbite took the regurgatonic. I've tried on and off for the last few patches, so I suspect it is the item itself that is bugged somehow.
I suggest getting the regurgatonic again, and try with a whole new item.
It's a bug that has been reported, seems to come and go. See the "Wolf Nerfed?" thread posted in May.
I haven't heard of it having anything to do with Barbarian faction before....have you done anything to FUBAR your Barb faction? I assume you're an Enchanter, and can therefore remedy any pesky faction issues with a spell.
If not, it's a bug and should be reported as such.
