I got the Blistering Tentacle last night off the Smoldering Tentacle Terror.
Almost complete

Blistering tentacle, you may get on the named goo

I got the fire tooth on the named fireborn yesterday, so now just missing the totem hilt. I am guessing the named giant drops it.

Also note there's is a 'regular' named fire elemental called Servant of Fire which is not the same one than the triggered and much harder cycle event one called Protector of Fire. You may have some luck there with the servant.

I think I got the totem base and the rune from Xeon and the Gigantic Ash something (named scarab)

9th November : runes droped by the Protector of Fire (ring event boss) seems that drops are not always from the same name, as I got another rune earlier from either the Scarab or Xaon. Or it could mean drops have changed again since Sept / oct.

Hilt drops off Culthor now, pretty lame risk/reward.

I have all the pieces for this item save the sweltering totem runes. can anyone tell me for sure which mob/race the last piece of the totem drops off of? someone on another page said he saw 3 drop in one night off of a conflagnant terror, but I think he was confused since the terrors drop the tentacle almost 100% of the time. any help from someone who has *seen one drop off of X mob in person* would be greatly appreciated.

I was the one you referred to about seeing 3 in one night, and on that night it did in fact drop off a Conflagrant Terror. I have the screen shots. However, that was before the patch that made a lot of changes in the zone.

I'm not sure where the Sweltering Totem Runes drop anymore.

Based off other posts (and my own experience) I think that items for this quest NOW only drop off named mobs. I know that before the patch the nameds never dropped anything except their nice loot, but the day after the patch several nameds all had one part or another, and they had them every time (see my post about the Burning Totem Base and Xaon.)

A major problem I see with this is that there were 2 different parts that dropped off tentacles before the patch, but only 1 named tentacle, so does it drop both now? or is there a bug?

Where did you get your Fireback Silk? Did you have to kill the Queen or did you get it before the patch? I've killed spiders for hours recently and not gotten any to drop at all. My group wasnt up to taking on the Queen so we didn't.

I'm still missing the Fireback Silk and the Blistering Tentacle. Anyone have any ideas on them?

someone else is saying Ashwalker (named beetle) or Protector of Flame (lava ring elemental) for the runes post patch. our group has killed ashwalker about 6 times and it has never dropped, and with the frequency of the drops on the other named, I am thinking that is false. Wednesday we will be heading into the lava ring room and trying to get the protector to spawn and I will pray then. :)

Also, the silk did come off the queen (and in a addition I got a nice regen earring). She can be single pulled using 3rd person view and pacification and without starting up the waves of spiders.

We have gotten dozens of blistering tenticles, always on the Smoldering Tenticle Terror, he is also along with the Pulsating Pool of Magma, the easiest to make spawn. If you kill the mobs in between the kobold house and the lava ring room, you should get him to pop within 2-3 cycles.

Sorry, I think you may have gotten lucky on the queen. The only way she is targettable is after all the waves of her babies have been killed. You may have come upon her after someone else wiped on the last wave or so, making her targettable.

That happened once to us, killed all the waves, got wiped from, of all things, a fire giant add (still confused on that one) and when we got back, she was shrunk down and targettable.

Good luck on the Protector. We made him spawn once by accident. We were all ready to leave anyway so we pulled him to try him out. The druid (only healer) started casting evac on the first quad-set of 490pt hits that our tank (heh, 64 beastlord) took. Got evac off in time to save the beastlord, but if the druid hadn't started casting IMMEDIATELY we all would have died fast. The beastlord says he got a Slow spell to stick right as we evac'd. Good luck!

well, we have killed the protector of fire three times, and he has not dropped it. We have also killed Typheos numerous times and he hasn't dropped it either. The only other named mob in this zone that we have not killed is Cuthor the Gatekeeper, which is obviously not a single group kill. Surely, a cloak that is equal to the CoF wouldn't require a piece from a level 70 mob.

I am thinking it is bugged, and have submitted a bug report for it.
a bit of a nerf
# Aug 28 2003 at 4:58 PM Rating: Decent
They did a stealth nerf on this cloak with patch.

Not a major one but they made it a REQUIRED LEVEL of 55 item.

So now you can not farm it to sell for twinking.

CoF??
# Aug 19 2003 at 11:39 AM Rating: Good
As we can see this is of course this is a CoF remake "As stated above". With no lvl rec "shocked" since everything else from this zone is lvl reced kinda odd why they would make a questable one with no lvl rec. Look at the fungi vest that drops from a encouter in Fungus Groove same stats as fungi race and class difference but fungi vest is lvl reced of 51. Since naggy is becoming easyer to kill every day i dont really see why they did this? can some one help me out here Smiley: confused

If you look under the "Haste" description you'll see Level for Effect: 35 thus there is "some" level restriction on it.

No, not really. First, don't believe everything you read. Second, haste is capped. Since this is 36% haste, the first level you get the full effect is 35. As I recall, the cap pre-50 is your level +1. So if you put this on a level 20, it'll be 21% haste (until he levels, of course). It's more of a "recommended level" than a "required level" for the effect. Not that it matters since it's nerfed to required 55 now.

Because people over level 52 CAN'T kill Nagafen for it, they could only get one by buying it or hoping for the rare drops off the Kunark Dragons or Ixiblat... this gives them a nice alternative way of getting the equivalent.
RE: CoF??
# Aug 19 2003 at 12:40 PM Rating: Good
Then it should have Recommeneded Level 52 on it.
RE: CoF??
# Aug 19 2003 at 5:56 PM Rating: Decent
Well honestly, this is more of a viable option for both higher level peeps and lower level. Since the fact that the CoF is dropable and definitely sellable, they made this counterpart the same. The biggest problem with Nagafen and Vox was always the fact that you HAD to bring mid 40's to high 50's peeps out to raid it, and since not all servers have the ability to bring together enough mid range people (since most strive to hit the 60's more than anything) and since the amount of Cloaks for sale were near zero, they decided to up the amount by creating an option for higher level characters to farm them for alts (since most characters at or above 52 will have a better haste item, or have the option for one at least) and for sale to lowbies that can afford them.

My idea of what Verant was thinking anyways...

I'd have to agree with you on all points, Anbori. Most people just worry about getting to lv60; as soon as I get halfway thru lv51 I'm going to get a majority of my lv51 aa's first and go on as many raids as I can get on. And a majority of the people will probably have better and by 52 or higher but as for me; I fall into the minority. I doubt I will have better by then and will probably end up doing the quest get this cloak at higher levels. The reasons: (A)I've been playing EQ for since December 2001 and out of my dozen characters on various servers, my main and highest character is a lv 47 sk on Drinal,(B)I only have maybe 10-15hrs a week to play because of working 50+hrs a week; (c)I'm not in a super twinked guild even though it is one of the oldest guilds on my server and have been past up indefinitely by a lot of my friends and guildmates because of my limited time on EQ; (D)I don't have a high level bard, wizard or druid to go "quad-kite farm" for plat nor the time to farm or to make one of these classes; (E)It's a known fact "for some reason Vox, Naggy and other raids seem to only be run by people on the West Coast/Western U.S." so I'm totally screwed by living in Ohio/Eastern U.S., because I usually only have free time to play during the early afternoon and early evening hours and the raids are done later than 9pm so people like me that work at nights and mornings in the EST zone get screwe; (f)And finally WTF would you pay 20k+pp for an item? I mean some things would be worth it for having FT1 or higher or a really uber weapon, but I just don't think paying that much money on something like that is really worth it, I might change my mind farther down the road....
In closing, I'll probably end up doing this quest in the end....
And from the EQ Anouncer "Just remember kiddies, there is more to do in EQ than spending all your time getting the uberest gear and the most plat possible, such as questing and helping your fellow player with tradeskills......(aye, if only you could make something this uber or better with tradeskills)....." Anouncers voice fades off and cheesy ending music comes on...
