better than tov
# Oct 14 2002 at 11:38 AM Rating: Decent
for a lower lvl character, tov is better to have, but as you get higher, it loses a lot of the value it had. 10 mana is really nothing when you are lvl 30+, each spell costs about 150+ mana. the saves on this make it much better to have, and the effect on this becomes useless after lvl 22. 2 wis lower is not much to lose, when u get 10 sv fire and sv cold oh, and i just bought it for 375 pp, lol, price is going way down with the bazaar up

Vs ToV
# Sep 09 2002 at 11:00 PM Rating: Good
compare:
crystalline eye: 30hp, mana; 10svf, svm, svc
ToV: 10wis 10mana mana preservation 1
Book of the rings: 8wis; 10svc, svf, 20hp

now at lvl 40 with less than 200wis that 8wis becomes more than 30 mana, not too much difference between 20hp and 30hp at that lvl either. so only advantage c.e. has is 10svm
as for ToV, the mana is slighly more (by around oh 30 or so), but there is zilch for anything else. which means both eye and book have 10svf svc on it.

lvl 40 druids typically will run into a caster mob every once in a while at a minimum (i do quite often). svm helps a TON, but as most mobs (and pc's) nukes are often fire or cold based, a high svf or svc is extremely important. MR can be made up on any number of items (as can FR and CR) but for the combination of stats, the book has it hands down. more mana than c.e. with comparable stats, and better overall stats than Tov with slighly less mana.

so in keeping my wisdom 190ish i at the same time up my resists. seems like an obvious choice to me but then again i may be wrong. (oh btw at lvl 40, you definately can xp in droga with a good group and clean house just so you don't say "but the price of this item is too high")..

a lvl 40 druid who knows how to play dungeons can quickly become adept to playing in droga. not too many wondering mobs, snare and root stick quite well, and almost nothing (except perhaps the highest lvl mobs in there) sees invis. oh and shroud of nature drops in there =)

I have the testament and I am a lvl 36 cleric. When I cast whatever spell it is (i forget atm) it flickers or something. So will it do it anyway or what.

please note that the Testament now has a effect so that makes the Testament better than this

Tov is mana preservation I
get a black alloy medallion 5 wis/int
which has mana preservation 2 on it :)

I disagree, this item is much better than the ToV because the ToV's effect works only on spells below level 20. If you're a level 24+ druid this might be a better choice then the ToV, mind you, you could keep it for when you're taking out lower mobs with lower spells.

I've done vanear quest, and what happens when you out grow it and need something better? <waves> bye bye - time and effort, vs no material gain, since vanear is no drop this item is way better, when you out grow it you can sell it, and get 2k+ know what I'd do if i had my time again.)

"when you out grow it"....problem with that is that it's not going to be workth 2k unless you're going to outgrow it within the next month or two. With all of the new items coming out, items are losing their value quickly, on my server at least. This is a nice book and would be one I switch out as need arises, but I don't think it's a permanent replacement for the ToV.

On the price issue, after the Bazaar has become functional many items have devaluated significantly.
On Vazaelle it goes for approx 1.5K at the moment.

Gm Event
# Sep 23 2001 at 11:24 PM Rating: Decent
This book was given as a reward today on Drinal server. I spoke to the GM and assembled a group of 35-40's in LOIO, and we went to the swamp of no hope. We killed something called Lozz Nasae, looked like a giant black sperm cell with teeth, got it's head and gave it to a GM named Hierophant Sakar. Got this and a Spiked goblin Ring.

same thing happened on xegony that day. a young iksar who gathered the group got the book and we randomed the ring to the 3 under lvl 30 iksars left. though having a 54 monk and 45 monk made the quest far too easy =p the gm should have told me and the 45 monk to get lost LOL.

If you loot this book yourself, or receive from a friend, it is certainly a nice item. However, before you pay 2k+ for it please note that the Testament of Vanear quest is really easy for anyone level 20 or up. The saves on this are nice, but I'd rather have the extra 2 wis and 10 mana on the ToV. Especially since it only cost me 2pp (to get the book and other page from modooro).

If you decide to get the ToV, don't camp it. just camp your character in highhold pass, and log on early morning or midday. I have checked to see if he was up several times, and he has always been ther (on rodcet nife). Never there at night and usually someone camping his spawn point.

This book is way better at high level than the Testament. Once you already have that 200 wis the saves stats will be much more important to you.

Yes, but if you are high level enough that your wis is maxxed, and you need resists, and can afford this, buy a crystalline eye instead because it also has +10 save magic, is 1 stone lighter, and has 30mana, which is better if wis is maxed. If, on the other hand, you are still trying to max your wisdom, the testament is better, and can be quested at level 15 or so, and only costs a couple platinum to do the quest. My original point stands, most people looking at this item, are after the wis boost. for that, this is very expensive, and inferior to Testament of Vanear. For resists, if you can't find the crystalline eye, and need resist gear right away, this would be an ok item.

It's not about being able to buy something it's that ToV (which by the way I have) is no drop and you cant sell it when you want to upgrade.

heh...you may not be able to sell ToV but did you have to spend more than a plat to get it? nope didnt think so...now with ToV how much money did you save? now you can buy BD gear with that money saved...right? heh

so many primary items with wis no prob, with current day prices in bazaar for a druid a dark ember is easily obtained. And has a nice 14hp proc if you choose to melee. Or if you get really rich try to buy a thundering mace and besides healing your friends occasionally and assist in the melee. Ppl forget that druids are 3rd line melees too often. (wich means engaging after true tanks and meleeclasses)

You want a good item for primary slot, find yourself a Spirit Tome for about 1k. This is a great item, I believe it's +6 wis/int, and can be used in primary or secondary. I have this in my secondary with Paw of Opolla in the other.
Happy!
# Jul 25 2001 at 9:44 PM Rating: Default
I'm so happy, I just had to post! Was in Lake of Ill Omen today when a GM, Heirophant Sakar, said he had a story to tell. I went to listen, thinking maybe it'd be something interesting and he told a tale of dispair. His brother was killed by a beast by the name of Lozz Nasae. Before the old Heirophant died, he wished to see the head of the beast that sley his brother. So, he sent a group of adventures into the swamp. Luckily, I got on the group and we raced into the Swamp of No Hope. I tracked the little bugger down, and after some trouble with other people be around, we took down the MoB. We take the head of the beast back to LoIO and give it to Sakar, and he gives us the rewards. A Goblin Spiked Ring and a Book of the Rings. Being the only druid in the group, and no shaman in there, I got the book! Woot! Anywho, the saves beat out the Testament of Vaneair, obviously. So, I'm very happy! Great book!

IF it's saves you need, I guess this is better, but the ToV gives 10wis and 10mana, which is better than this. Plus, if you happen to play on a PVP server (I don't) the No Drop of ToV is better also. I'd say both are excellent items, and which is better really depends on your needs.

Only one pvp server that has item loot at all, and you can't loot held items on that one anyway.. I use this on my pvp shammy when i'm caster fighting, switching it out with my cgs for general levelling and melee's, nice item.
Goblin Fanatic
# May 14 2001 at 11:16 AM Rating: Good
I attended a guild raid of Droga this weekend. This book was dropped, and the fanatic popped about 6-7 times while we were there. He seems to be a common spawn, but no one specific spot. From what I saw, he can spawn in any of the spawn locations in the pool room and immediate surrounding area. Only one Book of the Rings dropped, and two of the Iksar necro books. Hope this helps
