Got one in library
# Oct 08 2018 at 6:56 PM Rating: Decent
Dropped off a frog in the Library. Sorry I did not take note of which frog dropped it. But anyone reading the comments can see my post and be perhaps better informed. Perhaps it's a zone-wide drop. BTW, the frog was holding it in his hand before I killed him.

I have NEVER had it drop in Old Seb. Turnkey, took about 3 kills to drop, despite what they say, Myrk gloves are fairly common.

It just dropped for me in Seb today. I have spent what feels like years in Seb, and today I got two things to drop that I have never seen there before (this, and Shieldstorm), both off hall trash.

The posts below are pretty much very old but it should be said that contrary to at least one post below, the Book of Obulus *does* work and is great for neccy pet heals as well as mage pet heals. Have tested this personally on my mage and neccy. FYI

What level for full effect?
# Oct 30 2003 at 5:30 PM Rating: Default
I recently got this for my 38th Cleric. I noticed that I wasn't getting a full 20% bonus to my Superior Heal. The base heal for S. Healing is about 583 (according to Allakhazam). Before I got the book, I would routinely heal for about 603 (I assumed that it was because clerics got a base bonus to their heals for some reason). With the book I heal for about 658. Since an extra 20% of the base 583 would make the heal about 700, I obviously don't get the full effect of the item. I was wondering at what level I can expect to get the full effects?
RE: What level for full effect?
# Jul 11 2004 at 9:52 AM Rating: Decent
the focus is random up to 20%, same as the improved damage and burning affliction focuses. Some casts you get more than others. Over the long term, it averages out to about 10%.

Does anyone besides me find it ridiculous that you have to be lvl 45 to get this item, (from killing MOB) when the improved healing 2 stops working for ya at 44?? Just a thought.

It doesn't stop working at 44. It ALWAYS will work on spells up to level 44 spells, even if the caster is lvl 65. Also, a cleric can easily get into a karnor's group below 45, I'd say 42 is about the lowest you should try it. You'll definitely want 45 and higher for the melees though.

So, since you'll be casting nothing but lvl 44 and lower spells, until you hit lvl 49, this really isn't so bad.

Plus, if you happen to have any other focus effects, like spell haste II (SH2) or Mana Preservation II (MP2), you might find that you'll prefer to keep using the lower level spells, since a lvl 34 spell (superior healing), with MP2, SH2 and IH2, will often provide more healing, for less mana, and cast faster, than the higher level spell.

question
# Jan 28 2003 at 10:09 PM Rating: Default
since this is for secondary ONLY slot. i have focus crystal in primary and in secondary i have a drachnid thyxl. should i switch to this or keep the thyxl? PLEASE POST AS I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW
RE: question
# Aug 02 2003 at 9:26 AM Rating: Default
Well from looking at the Focus Crystal & Drachnid Thyxyl I would say that you are either very high level or that you have some friends that let you loot in a higher level area than you are. I would die to have both of the items you have, lol!!!

If you are level 51 or higher DRUID I would say that Obulus will do you no good, as the Healing Improvement II will only work on Healing Waters or down to enhance. Also, the WIS and other stats on both of the above blow away Obulus, hehehe

I only have a 46 DRU at the moment, so if you are any other Class (which from the Thyxl it looks like you are) then I really am not too sure... I will look up the healing spell levels on al of the classes on Thyxl and edit this post Smiley: smile

Okay, if you are a any of the following classes, here is what Obulus ***might*** work on (I am not too sure what spells Obulus is limited to, so no flaming please, hehehe). I did a search for any healing spell below 44 for each class the Drachnid Thyxyl is allowed to use and have linked them here:

Necromancer: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spelllist.html?name=heal&type=nec&level=44&opt=And+Lower&aa=Ignore+AA+Abilities&action=search

Enchanter: (No heals came up on Chantys)

Magician: (No heals came up for Mag either)

Wizard: (No heals came up on Wizzies)

Basically, unless you are a NEC I would stick with the Drachnid Thyxl!

#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 31 2003 at 3:57 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) depends what your focusing on, i mean do u want mana over int on hands or what? you need to be specific on that one, as for me i have hit my soft cap of 200int so anythin over is pretty much spitting at a inferno hehe, so lets be blunt, the 8int + 45 mana is awesome for any class who can use this, so you just need to think long.

Superior heal with book: 654.

It doesn't add up
# Dec 01 2002 at 8:03 PM Rating: Default
Superior Heal without book: 612
Superior Heal with book: 654
Increase in healing: 42
Percentage of improvement over unfocused heal: 6.9%

--NOT-- 20%!

If the spell really did improve damage recovery by 20%, then your superior heal should have healed for 734, an increase of 122 points!

One reason I can think of for the spell not doing a fully improved recovery of hit points would be the target being healed only had 654 less hitpoints than his(her) total hit points.

Or perhaps the spell does a random increase percentage of healing between 1 and 20% improvement.

If that is not the case, then can anyone explain this discrepancy from the actual percentage of improvement over the alledged improvement?

I have found that all focus effects that affect a number that is actually output to the console (healing, damage) vary by 1-20%, and it is possible that the effect will not happen.

Dotting classes using Burning Affliction will see this most clearly when using the dot the damage output looks like this (not a real log, sort of pseudo log):

Your Coldain Military Wristguard shines with mystical might
A Drunk Kobold has taken 155 damage from your Winged Death
Your Coldain Military Wristguard shines with mystical might
A Drunk Kobold has taken 162 damage from your Winged Death
--note here the lack of a message---
A Drunk Kobold has taken 144 damage from your Winged Death
--pretend that's the unaffected dmg output--
Your Coldain Military Wristguard shines with mystical might
A Drunk Kobold has taken 153 damage from your Winged Death
You have slain a Drunk Kobold!
You gain experience!
A Drunk Kobold says "Avenge me! This oaf did not think I was important enough to look up the actual damage output of a spell he uses every day!"

I assume that this random number is made when you see the message "Your (item) (does something)." and then it's effect is applied to the spell. It's only really easily demonstrable with one shot heals and dmg output stuff.. you'd need a log parser to check stuff like extended enhancement and affliction efficiency.
RE: It doesn't add up
# Oct 15 2004 at 7:20 AM Rating: Decent
Extended Enhancement is a fixed amount, 20% I think. 26ish minute spells (clarity, GoM, boon of the clear mind) are now about 31 mins (no variance). Also, the effect processes every cast, no chance of a miss.

I have this book on my lvl 41 Cleric and his heals Vary by about 75hp. I have healed as low as 620 something and as high as 710ish.

so I would say random percentage.

/edit my bad Vary by 90ish. Can't add today. :o(

you said it yourself, celestial heal is 44 this book is 1 to 40 hence it wont work, i doubt it would even if 39 because it only applies to instant spells...

This is for instant heals only, excluding Complete Healing, Celestial is a heal over time, so effect won't work.

great stats
# Jul 08 2002 at 4:29 AM Rating: Decent
yes, this thing has incredible stats, and is a good addition to resist gear for say, a nagafen raid. Although it would probably be better used on a cleric, I'm not about to give this one up again. and the int/wis and mana is priceless. Far beats a stein of moggok, even though stein is cheaper and easier to attain :)

Effect on Cel Heal?
# Jul 07 2002 at 4:19 PM Rating: Default
Celestial Healing is level 44, but it's a heal over time spell. Anyone know if the book affects this spell as well? The only heals I use are Comp, Cel, and Remedy, so if not, it wouldn't help once a cleric gets past Sup heal, aside from the resists. One of those, 'If I happen to win one, great, but I'm not gonna save up the cash to buy one.'

If you click on the name of the effect you will see the restrictions..

1: Focus Attribute: 7D (20)
2: Restriction: Spells level 44 and lower
3: Restriction: Only applies to 'Hit Points (HP)' spells
4: Restriction: Affects 'Instant' spells only
5: Restriction: 'Beneficial' spells only
6: Restriction: Exclude spell 'Complete Healing'
7: Restriction: Exclude spell 'Complete Heal'

The number 4: description says it only affects Instant spells. Wich means it wont do anything to Celestial Healing, as it isnt and instant effect heal :(
