Getting these dang embers!

I used hionadu's "Stand on Phurzikon's spawn point" method, and this worked quite well. The Respawn rate seems to be 0:1:06, like the Quillmane spawn. Find Phurzikon location on brewall's map, and stand there. Kill all the mobs in that area until a mob spawns on that point. Easiest with someone with a good ranged attack, or two people, one to stand and get attacked by new spawns, and one to run around killing. The different PH's i found at this spot include:

a mouldering gorilla (8)
a tottering gorilla (1)
a scoriae hornet (2)
a forest giant ancient (5)
a forest giant verdant (1)
a sarnak zealot (5)
a sarnak avenger (4)
a sarnak champion (5)
an ember hornet (3)
greater war boned skeleton (6)
greater plague skeleton (2)
wurm (1)
Nezekezena (7)
Phurzikon (5)

The numbers in brackets are the number of times i saw that mob spawn once i started counting. With a 51 Bard/Shaman/Mage this spawn was very easy to manage, even with wandering adds thrown in the mix. The embers eventually dropped from Phurzikon. I also had Healer and Rogue mercs. I really wish the drop rate was better on this item, but all things considered, WAY better than the goblin spawn for cleric epic! Overall i think with the 55 spawns it took to get drop i probably spent 1:15 doing the whole thing, but it was so efficient. Hope this helps anyone else working on this!

I followed Hionadue's advice and parked one toon at Phurzikon's spawn point and slaughter everything I could see. As I was near Naxot I saw Phurzikon walking towards towards their spawn point but they weren't on tracking before that. I'm guessing they can spawn elsewhere then walk back to the spawn point. Ranger has 300 tracking so no chance of missing Phurzilon.

Now if only Slixin Klex would drop the damn dirt I can work on Quilimane, yay!

just did this, and hopefully these notes help the next mage on a mission...

The spawn rate is roughly a minute.
Goto brewalls Phurzikon point.

This will be easier with two people.. someone holds that spot, one goes around the area killing everything until you get a mob to spawn on the person at the spawn point.

Once you have the place holder spawning, you have the camp and just need kill the snot out everything that spawns from that point...

I spent 2 days at one of the other spawn points mostly afk, letting everything roam to me. Don't even think I saw a named pop, so I must not of downed the ph for it.

Got my embers within an hour of locking down that ph spawn point.

The massive pile of dead named wurms was very satisfying as I gated out.

44 Kills on Nez / Phurzikon on Aradune in Velious era. Easy enough to get to spawn but my god the drop rate. If you have Brewall's map the point labelled "Phurzikon" is completely correct.

Been camping both spawn points and have killed over 40 named wurms so far between the two spots -- still no Burning Embers. Only had to kill Quillmane a dozen times or so before the cloak dropped, so this seems much worse to me.

And I agree with whoever said that the person who wrote this quest must have hated Mages.

completely agree, this item drop rate is Ultra Rare....

and this mob has gâ—‹d dâ—‹mn PH....

this quest designer must really hate magicians....

and i don't understand why a MMO RPG most make players need to spend their most time to camp something? is player's time not time? or these designer think we players are some kind of trash, our time only worth for their XXX games? this IS unhealthy!!

Considering you are probably so far above the level this was designed for, you might want to think about this: The quest was designed with the idea you would be leveling WHILE doing the quest, not already so high a level that these mobs are green or grey to you. Also, when the epics came out, Sony hadn't changed the experience gain to what it currently is, where you can level a toon from 0 to 45 in about 2 days. Back then, we would grind for days just to get from lvl 40 to 41!!! So quit your ********* and go do something else instead. Fing cry babies nowadays!

Killed Nezekezena, looted everything and didn't click DONE...stayed on dead mob inventory till it vanished...seconds later Nezekezena popped again...and again...and again.... got my Burning Embers on like the 6th kill....all in less than a minute. WOW. Accidental trick.
Phur and Nez

I have spent the better part of 6 hours on this camp. If you look at the map on magelo, it would suggest they both found in the Eastern section of the zone. For me they did not. After killing everything in this area, I tracked Nez and Phur to the North Western part of the zone about 3 times. I finally lucked up and found Nez on his spawn point.

They BOTH spawned off of the same point P2790 , P1030.

Place holders included basically every type mob in the zone: Sarnaks, Giants, Hornets, Gorillas, Skeletons

Spawn time is 64 Seconds.

Spawn rate was about 3 in 50 for either of the two named wurms.

I parked my mage at this point to keep the PH down and continued to run thoughout the zone with my Ranger and kill everything else that moved. I over 4 hours or so, I never had either name spawn from any other point in the zone.
Found the point

OK, found the spawn point, so I just parked my pet, merc and stop by every few minutes. Wow though, I am over 20 kills of Nezekezena & Phurzikon and still no embers yet. Half of the time (or more now) I have gotten the bard epic gut piece.

Well like every other blasted drop on this quest this item is no easier to obtain. I have downed well over a dozen of the named wurms. Have seen 4 guts for Bard Epic, one wurmscale cloak, and obviously 0 mage drops.

Seriously whoever wrote Mage epic 1.0 really must hate mages. Every single drop for this quest is a miserable camp. Took 19 kills on Phin Autodrops for the mage item to drop, weeks of camping for Quillmane.

While typing till 3 more named kills with nothing..

Burning Embers drop
# Aug 21 2011 at 2:42 AM Rating: Decent
Ok guys this is how you do it. The spawn point is -462, -2541.
First your going to have to kill everything around the area till you kill the place holder. then when the named spawns up kill him and stand on that loc that I posted. Place holders will spawn on the spot about every 1:30 min. Just kill them one after another and the name will spawn over and over again without haveing to run all over the place.

I have posted my experience with a second spawn point for Phurzikon and Nezekezena on Nezes page. The Location is Pos 2797 pos 1027 .

I hope this helps all you hunting this mob.
Focus on Loc -477, -2554
# Jan 03 2010 at 4:45 AM Rating: Decent
Just want to add another confirmation that Nezekezena & Phurzikon spawn, or at least can definitely spawn at loc -477, -2554. Ideally you'd want to have another person with you while camping for this piece, unless one of Phurzikon or Nezekezena are already up.

If neither of them are up, have one person stay at that exact location, and the other person just mass kill anything they can find in that general area, or anywhere I suppose, but I'd start there in that vicinity. Once you get a mob to spawn at that location, then THAT mob will start the PH cycle. Once the mob that spawns there dies, approx ~80 seconds later another mob will spawn. Most of the time this will be a PH (place holder mob such as a sarnak, hornet, giant, skelly, undead ape, etc.), other times it can be either 2 of the above named Wurms. While camping that spot, I never did see Gylton spawn there, but probably had a mix of at least 10-15+ spawns of Nez and Phurz.

I got the bard epic/gut item like 3 or 4 times before FINALLY getting the mage piece. Not a horrible camp once you kill the wandering PH mob, and have the rotation locked at 80 seconds. From that point it's just patience and being hopeful about getting the correct drop.

Good luck on your Epics! =)

Nezekezena and Phurzokon still drop.

I had to kill over a dozen of Phurzikons (never dropped the embers)
and half as many Nezekezenas (always dropped the bard epic item)...
until today.

First named wurm I saw today was Neze,
and it DID NOT drop the guts,
but it DID drop Burning Embers.

That's odd, but I'm happy!

Does Phurzikon still pop? I've tried for two days to get this guy and no luck.
Any help would be appreciated!

If anyone knows the camp spot please let me know.

And I agree, I think They do have it out for mages!

5 hours at the camp spot, 32 named spawns between Phur and Nez combined... no burning embers. With the trouble I've had from this epic in comparison to any other class, I'd have to say verant had it out for mages.

u've got the truth of it there... tho technically, verant's not in control any more... i do believe the dev's have all had it in for mages tho, cuz from everything i have seen, mages seem to have to work about 20 times harder for everything... spells/abilities, quests, gear, you name it, even just basic stuff... its sickening :(

Dropped off Phurz in 20min...
# Nov 10 2007 at 3:05 AM Rating: Good
The previousely stated information about -455 -2550 is correct. I went near that loc (Solo, no tracker) and killed everything i could that roamed by - Hornets, gorillas, giants, sarnak knights, and paying special attention to wurms. A Sarnak Zealot walked by but he managed to slip away. The spot I was at had a building on either side of me in the near distance.

In the midst of fighting a Giant Arbor I saw Pherz off in the distance, approaching me from the building to the north... Popped just between it and myself. Phurz Con'd Light blue to my 57 mage. Dropped at loc -602 -2706 with embers and other misc fodder. 1 and done. Pet had 40% health but just got finished killing a few mobs in a row. I resisted all nukes with only 150 resists, had 80% health after getting hit a few times for roughly 120ish max but more around 80 avg... and had 70% mana as I unloaded shock of steel (scoring one crit of 2300 or so) out of concern for dirtball which had just taken out a few mobs in a row. I was there for roughly 20 min.

By the way... Phurz made no attempt to gate or Summon and tried to walk away at about 10%.

Edit: There was no noticable glow contrary to what some have said.
Hope this helps.

Dropped off Phurz in 20min...
# Jan 25 2008 at 1:56 PM Rating: Decent
Yeah, that loc (roughly -450 -2550) is the magic spot. I parked my pet on it and killed anything that came near him. It got very hairy at times, and it took many sessions to finally get the dang embers to drop (I ended up w/ over seventy phosphorous).

Sometimes when you start a session you will wonder if you're at the right place. You've killed lots of mobs pathing right across the magic spot - so why aren't PHs spawning? Well, it can take a long time for the right PH to wander his slow butt around the zone and into your death trap. Like thirty minutes, maybe more.

You'll know you're on the right thing when about every 80 secs a mob "falls from the sky" (spawns) and stands there on the spot about 20 seconds - before wandering off. Just keep killin em til Phurz and N-dragon (forgot his name, Nemekenezer? something like that) spawns. They will not gate HERE low on health cuz this is where they gate to if you fight them elsewhere. P is not too hard to kill, but N is tough (was for me). I was 51 and had a druid helping - dotting and healing pet. N summons but will mostly stay mad at pet and not summon you if you play it right.

For me the right spot was just a place in the woods on grass (not black soil) - with no buildings visible to me (maybe the other poster's settings are different). Go by the loc - and be very patient. This was harder for me to get than Quill's cloak (maybe I got lucky on that - cloak dropped fourth or fifth kill). I had three or four long sessions (or was it five or six? I'm fuzzy) in BW killing mondo PH's. Went from lvl 47 to 51 just doing this - AND - got two AAs. You might get lucky, you might not.

Anyway, this system did work. Be patient - get to the point where the PH is dead and new PHs are popping right on that loc - and you will start killing named wurms - and eventually you'll get lucky. GL!

edit, Phurz never summoned me. N only summoned once, when we were fighting him way away from the spawn point. In that fight he summoned several times (we just backed away - pet kept agro) - and he gated low on health - 12%? Fighting on the spawn point was easy. Never summoned - either one - and they never gated (again, the spawn point is where they go if they gate). Keep them mad at your pet and you should be fine. Their attack range is HUGE, so stand well back.

Spawn point
# Oct 28 2007 at 11:36 PM Rating: Decent
The spot labelled is the correct spawn point, -450, -2550 if anyone doubts it. Mobs spawn very fast, maybe every minute, give or take (as I have 7 corpses laying at the spawn point, about the time one disappears the next mob spawns. "A wurm" is definately the most common spawn at this point, but I have seen all the others listed. Definately not soloable with a low 50s mage. Even if you have the timing perfect and get a new pet up before you are summoned, there is no way you could possibly keep up your mana long enough to win the fight. I don't care what armor you have. Simply not possible, it was designed to be that way.

This is definately soloable at 60+. If you stand on the spawn point you will get very few adds, but some mobs do wander close enough to aggro. When you get to the spawn point DO NOT EXPECT TO SEE A MOB THERE. Everything wanders.

Edit: Also, there is a theory below about when named wurms will spawn. Its bunk. Phurz just spawned at 3:41 EDT. Definately not time dependant, totally random.

PH camp
# Jun 08 2006 at 8:39 PM Rating: Decent
I had an interesting experience with this one. After scouring the area I finally found the pop point (some mobs seem to pop about the ground and fall, a skele did that and that's how I noticed the spawn). After about 10 ph's, I got two nez and then a ph, a phur and two more nez. Completely random.

Also be sure to watch for bees if you aren't kos to them, as I almost had one get away from me while relying on my pet to kill them after they aggroed.

I was more or less right at -450 -2550 and although I won't say that's where they spawned exactly, they were right in my face and were quick to attack once spawned.
