Inferno Goblin
# Jun 16 2002 at 3:05 AM Rating: Decent
Hello fellow Rangers! I just completed this quest completely solo tonight with my 36 Ranger and wanted to share the latest info on the Inferno Goblin Wizzy in Sol A. Contrary to many of the posts I have read, he did not spawn at the bar after camping there for over an hour. After taking out about 2 dozen green and lt. blue goblins I decided to venture out and track him. He showed up blue on track and was not far from the bar. I found him alone in a room to the southwest of the bar at loc neg770, neg540. He cast 3-4 nasty DD spells (I resisted a few with only 40 MR but found my health bar at about 50%) and then he dropped fast. I got lucky. He had the heart of fire on him...hope the post helps...

P.S.-- Star Rubies can be bought cheap in FV, but if you want to do the quest fast buy them from the lass on the 2nd floor in the blue bldg adjacent to the Freeport Bank for 2-5pp more (depending on your CHA).

I was camping the King for my clerics epic 1.0 and had the inferno wizzy spawn on the right side of the room across from his PH on my third round of spawns. He dropped the heart as well, so obviously it's not just in the bar as some people have said.

I actually found him in the Fire Goblin Captain's room. He was his place holder. I have seen him near the bar in the past, but lately I've ran into him quite often as a place holder for the captian.

Greetings all,

Last night I camped the Bar Room (and the surrounding two rooms) for only one complete cycle of spawns. I hit track and found a light blue (myself at 39) Inferno Goblin Wizard had spawned at one of the spawn points back out in passageway that I had cleared to reach the Bar Room in the first place.
I looted, it had the heart.
So, I do not know if the Bar Room itself is or is not a good source of Hearts of Fire, but it IS in the very near vicinity of Inferno Wizard spawns, so it would not be a total waste to camp the Bar Room... just hit the Track button every once in awhile to keep up with all of the respawns like I did.

I (34 cleric) was helping a Ranger (34) friend of mine get this item last night, and although we eventually got the blasted thing, I suggest this: do not camp the bar, INFERNO GOBLIN WIZARD never popped there for us (it HAS to be inferno..not just any old wizzie),instead go to the lava pit (take a right (east) before reaching the bar) and try the 'secret passages' by the bottom of the octagonal pit, this is where we had most luck getting them. Should also add we had a 55 warrior join us when we went wandering..because these Gobs aggro regardless of how nice you smile at them.... and they add very quickly..too quickly.

Inferno Goblin Wiz

Guys,

at present im 46 rng. I obtained mithril sleeves, bp and legins instead of ivy at lvl 40, now im trying to do there quest, coz im finally at sufficient lvl and mithril can be sold much better then ivy. Grimfeather was pretty nice to camp, abit worse to kill, but, inferno goblin wiz in sol A was completre bummer. I was camping bar room with friend 50 druid, and i was allied with 3 high lvl ppl at various locations in the dungeon, but within 6 hrs there only 5 goblins spawned. LAst one [i was about to leave, pretty pissed of] dropped heart of fire, i was incredibly happy;] So gettting heart is probably worse part of quest, so be prepared! But my sleeves are now REALLY earned, now bought, not twinked, and its important [i would NOT ever sell em for 500 in EC as some ppl do] Hope this will help.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 18 2001 at 2:45 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i just wunt to no how the heck do you kill grimfether <sorry if i spelled it wrong> hes a lvl 50 griffen who hits for a tone of damage
RE: grimfether
# Jul 16 2001 at 11:51 AM Rating: Decent
Now its kind of a cheap way to kill grimfeather, but who cares when you are running around wearing your ivy sleeves right. First way is the easy way, do a /who and see if there are any "nice" high level characters in the zone willing to help you out. Ussually you can find a high lvl druid who just gg'd into the zone who can do this for ya. The second way is the cheap way. First track Grimfeather till he is near the guard tower by the gypsies as this is where you want to plan your attack. Drop a snare on him or just start to plug him full of arrows as you lead him up to the guards. Then let the guards start smacking the hell out of him as you sit off to the side making sure all your buffs are up and you have full health and mana. The guards generally take grim down to about half life before they die, and that is when grim takes off like a bat outta hell to scratch your eyes out. Solo you can try to fear kite him with panic animal launching everything you got at him from DoTs to arrows and DD spells, or you can have a few casters help nuke him to death.

If you're a Ranger (after all, this is a Ranger only item), then the easiest way to kill GrimFeather is to simply fear kite him. Snare him, Fear him, then beat on him as he runs... Fear (Panic Animal) is a dodgy spell to say the least, but as long as you keep casting it, you'll be right. Add any DoTs/DDs as you see fit, but keep enough mana for fears & re-snares.

GrimFeather resists a lot -- and if that first snare fails, good luck to you if you're soloing him. He outruns SOW, so I would suggest fighting him near the zone line.

He is fast, but failed to resist my stuns or roots. I took him down at lvl 38 with the help of a druid (healer) then soled him at 39 with my own buffs. (An extra 500hp/35ac and self-1200hp regen goes a LONG way)

I let rangers loot the rune, I just want the exp
and some feathers for my fleeting quivers :)
Grimfeather
# Jun 25 2001 at 4:36 PM Rating: Default
Well, his name is Grimfeather. He is only lvl 37 and yes he hits hard but so does most thing his level. The best way to kill him is to kite him, if you do not know what that means then you probably can't do it. To kite something is when someone casts snare on the mob and then starts to cast DoTs and DDs on it. Then when you get to about half mana cast root and med. If root breaks, get up and run a bit (making sure the mob is still snared so you outrun it) and root it again. Once you have a decent amount of mana again, start back up with the DoTs and DDs. The DoTs should make sure the mob does not heal back up while you are medding.

Find a druid (I think they kite the best personally) and see if they will assist you with the kill. Hope this helps...

Or...

you could do it like a Ranger.
Root him, shoot a dozen arrows into his hide, snare him and go dual wield his behind.
I did this at lvl 38. He's tough but no uber.
I did drop a fire dd on him twice, I use them so seldom I can't even remember what it is, Burning Arrow? got it at 30

Or...

you could get a druid to do it as above.

RE: rubies
# Apr 20 2001 at 6:03 AM Rating: Default
When turning in items to an npc for a quest you should never stack.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 17 2001 at 12:08 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) There are no stone-written rules like that.
RE: rubies
# May 22 2001 at 7:08 PM Rating: Decent
just to be safe you shoyld always not stack items and if you do you better start off the cheepest. but its always beter to safe than sorry.
RE: rubies
# Jul 31 2001 at 12:53 AM Rating: Decent
It makes no difference.
Certain things that doesnt say a set requirement(Gnoll fangs in qeynos is a good one) can only take 4 at a time(the amount of slots an NPC has in the trade window).
If you take 1 item that is stackable, drop it on an NPC, and take the same item and repeat it, it will stack it automaticly.
It makes no difference, just be sure you have the right amount.

haven't done the quest yet but the way things work (from what ive seen) is this:

When combining any items to make another-NEVER EVER stack anything.

When turning in items to an NPC-you can stack up to 4 (stackable) items per slot but it is not necessary to do so.

So to answer your question it should be ok to do it either way.
Heart of Fire
# Jan 17 2001 at 6:17 PM Rating: Decent
I have camped the Bar room for 2 days now, seen 5 wizzies the first nite, 3 the second nite, still no Heart of Fire. We have been killing everything close to us, especially all infernos, the bartender, the drunkard, and still no luck. Are we going about this right or is there something else we should be doing or another place we should be within Sol A?

I even /OOC'd that I would pay 70PP just for the priviledge of looting the Heart of Fire...

Any info would be appreciated... If possible, please email me at feanorrg@yahoo.com...

I saw one heart of fire when I was camping the High Shaman. droped from a Gobo Wizard. I killed lots of Wizzies in the hour and a half I was there, so I would assume the item is farly rare.

Well i did the ivy sleeves last night. Killed grim first then went over to sola. I heared that this was a pretty rare drop and well. Found that i am either extreamly lucky or this isnt a rare drop at all. Ok so me and my friend were campin the barroom. We killed everything in the general area. And decided to wander off a little bit to find a wiz. Well we went down this hallway a little bit and bam there was a wiz. So we killed him and he had a heart of fire. Not very hard =)
