I just got one of these for free, cause my stupid brother has a 28 monk and bought it for him but it sucks pretty bad at that level. Gave it to my 61 pally, and it's actually not too bad...better than my Hammer of Silent Screams that I was using before...same graphic and all though. It proccs quite a lot with HoS or Focus. Around 5-6 times per fight or even more. Hitting around the 230s with it.

Ok, I think I managed to get what Likis was trying to say, and Likis wasn't entirely correct in how this proc works. To set the record straight, here is how rune works (fyi I play a wizzy main, and have access to personal runes, same theory applies, only part I am unsure of is if this rune absorbs spell dmg):
You have rune1 buff on, it will absorb exactely 55 points of dmg (lvl 21+) before disappating. If you take less than 55 pts of dmg, the rune will remain until such time that you recieve dmg that totals or exceeds 55pts. If you take more than 55 pts of dmg in a single blow, like the hit was for 605 pts, you will recieve 550 pts of dmg, and the rune will take 55 pts. You can also tell when your rune absorbs dmg if you have a dmg shield up. Personally, I tend to use manaskin(whichever one regens 1 mana, peridot to cast) and O'kiels levity (self only fr buff, levi, and 5pt ds) alot together, and you will always see mob missed message (if the blow wasn't hard enough to dispell the rune) when something attacks you, but you will also see the ds hit for when the rune absorbs the blow. The rune will not absorb a random amount of dmg, it always absorbs dmg up to a fixed combined total before disappearing. I am not sure if mob procs, like VS' lifetap, get absorbed by this rune or not as I don't know for certain if it falls under melee or spell dmg.
This looks like the Dathor Great Hammer that drops in Umbral. Dathor Great Hammer is the one that is something like 75/90, slow as all getout but hits like a ton of bricks
My guess this was made for the consulation prize effect .. u know, " OHHH I'm sorry u didn't win the uber 1hb or the earring piece for that nice quest, but here u go 'lil jonny /grins!
Come on LOL muhahaha ok, look at the lvl of the spell, and rune is old world. absorb 27-55hp dmg from lvl 1 to lvl 21, but it requires that u be at least 56 to get full use out of it, and at lvl 56 or the lvl required to take out king, 55hp of dmg absorber that might proc maybe twice per battle, isnt really cool at all.
It's exactly like saying -- " hey guys, I know we got our a**es served to us but did u see my wep proc and deflect his kick?" --Friend says: " ahhhh, not really jonny. There was way too much dmg spam from our real weapons to see your proc msg, let alone the 1 blocked atk that it allowed you.....now get us rezzed u jackhole!"
Ok I read that the beastlord with max dex was procing 10 times in a fight. I also read the spell info that says...
1: Increase Absorb Damage by 27 (L16) to 55 (L21)
I'll assume since the BL has max dex he is above 21. So that would be 550hp that he wouldn't have to heal during that fight? Maybe I'm wrong, but that really raises the value of this Maul to me. Too bad my dex is much lower than that.
1) If you're proccing 2-3 times per fight you NEED to get some DEX, ASAP. 2) Very few proccing weapons are useful for their primary effect. Most MTs want a weapon that procs a high-agro effect, and chanters that I know tell me that they hate casting rune mid-fight because it's so high taunt.... 3) 34/37 may not be great ratio any more (wow, how the world has changed), but it's not bad at all. In the mid-high 50s I would use this weapon, but probably put it down in the 60s. 4) Note the +75 HP and +12STR. HP is always good and having good STR means you can sacrifice some STR elsewhere (e.g. for a +taunt item with crappy stats, not that I'm thinking of anything specific... ;-) 5) This might be useful as a swap-in during deffensive agro-building. The taunt is nice, the ratio is decent and in defensive but unslowed, this proc might actually be enough damage mitigation to let a cleric sneak in a CH that would have landed too late (e.g. if the cleric fizzles on the first try).
All around, I would say this is not a consolation prize, but a somewhat lesser drop for the mob.
Just thought I'd point out... Rune (or avatar or any buff proc for that matter) is not going to generate aggro on a level that an MT will want. Casting a buff while a mob is in camp is a very small amount of aggro)... and that's exactly how much you're going to get when this goes off.
I bought this weapon in the interest of getting my 2hblunt skill up since I needed a fairly adequate yet cheap 2hblunt to go and solo with. At 61 when I began I only had a skill of 16 and this proc'd on average about 10 times a fight. Now i've only got my skill to 120ish since 2hblunt isn't the weapon of choice for BL's but with a max'd out dex of 280, more like 319 with no cap this procs about once every 3-5 seconds. You may think that this isn't all that great and I would have to agree it isn't the best weapon you can get but it doesn't require a reagent to proc and it has a semi-decent ratio.
This is quite a nice practice weapon if you are short of one. Prices at about 3K on my server and I personally quite like the graphic although my friends think it looks like a sausage on a stick..........guess i'll have to get my self a SoFW and the neck haste item from Xanamech for when I want to finish of 2hblunt and tank.
Got this today & says "consumes 1 cat's eye agate" per cast. But I have not seen this to be the case. I have 3 stacks of them but not one was used in over 5 procs. Just wondering if I wasted my cash on 3 stacks and if I just need 1 "eye".
Got this and tried it today, you don't need any reagants for it. It procced for me fine and I had none. Trying to decide what is king's common drop, I've saw about the same of each.
with procs u never need the regeants, at least with any of the items i've found, with right-clickys you do sometimes but i've found with items ou usually dont need regeants

I got this thing and man the proc is very nice, I like the stats and for a Paladin or even a soft skin like a wiz or necro it is selling for uber though, is it really worth 25K?
