Legacy of Ykesha
Recently I wanted to see how far I could solo a nontwinked warrior.
I was able to get this sword by lvl 9, and complete the armor quests by lvl 10.
I was then able to complete all of the PoK newbee quests, all with this sword as my primary weapon. I also did the lvl 20 watch repair.
With this sowrd as primary I've also soloed yellows past lvl 20, and killed name mobs in HH.
At lvl 23 I bought a 12/29 weapon for 45 plat and move this swrod to the off hand. I am currently doing the gnoll related quest in BM.
So maybe this sword wont be used by a twink, but it and the other newbee quest make the game playable by nontinks.
The Bane damage on this sword does not work on the gnolls in HH or on the gnolls at the mines in BM
The Bane damage on this sword does work in BB and the gnolls at the spires in SK
Sure spire gnolls are no longer prime targets, but they do drop FS weapons, plat and the DoN Armor componits. Furthermore there are a number of gnolls around splitpaw that are lvl 30+.
All in all a sword you can easly get at lvl 10 and still use well into your 30's to solo db mobs isn't all that bad

I started a new Barbarian Warrior to play around a bit and am still finding this sword to be quite acceptible until I reach a level when decent procs start becoming available.
Note that the screenshot above was taken before the sword was upgraded.

I'm sorry, but even for a newbie quest this thing is crap. First off, by lvl 4 in the newbie zone, mines of gloomingdeep, you could kill the boss mob of that zone with a partner and get the iron bar he drops to turn into an npc down at the base camp who will give you a 6 28 wpn! now if this quest is in line with most other newbie wpn quests, you can't get it on your own as a non-twink until your mid-teens, which means you have to wait about another 10 lvls or more to get a wpn with a worse ratio than the sword you got with little if any effort in the first 20 minutes of playing your character. Sure, it has that sta bonus which is nice for the lvl; but honestly, who still hunts in Blackburrow after about 15? which is around when you would get this on your own as a non-twink, therefore the gnoll bane is rather useless considering that there is no way anyone would still be using this by the time they could fight the next wave of gnolls they would meet for experience out in South Karana, which are typcally 30ish plus lvl gnolls now that splitpaw has been revamped. I was even able to get two of the newbie swords from gloomingdeep before i left since they aren't lore, so this isn't even worth the time once you could equip a wpn in each hand. I've heard that they degraded the usefulness of most of these newbie wpns from the original 7 28 with a stat mod and 5 bane dmg to whatever ethnic critter that calls your local newbie zones home, to the crap items they are now.
That's because these quests were made without the tutorial there to get said weapon.

i just did this quest and boy was it fun . ithink wall forget the root of the game. quests are what make this game .When yo uget those goosebumps runnin up the hall then tryin to ge to the snakes boy i tell you what this game is awsome!!

Test server = no work to 25 and free stuff... I Think you start off with a total of 208+ HP, 48+ Str so BEAT THAT U NEWBIE QUESTERS! Hehehe

Now this is a barbarian's dream. Every stat enhancement for the newbie warrior quest is purely physical. Here's the total armor/weapon stats for the Barbarian Warrior --
AC+50 | STR+4 | STA+13 | HP+53 | Weight 15.5
I've just created my barbarian warrior in the Vallon Zek server and from what this says, everything can be accomplished starting at lvl 1, though it likely won't be till around lvl 3-4 till I get my first piece of armor. But even at lvl 5, these stats are impressive, unless people transfer items through the shared bank or have others give them items they no longer want or need. Again, this is seriously some pumping for a newbie warrior.

I see if differently. First of all, one of my alts gets +22 agility +11 dex (rogue) from her newb set, and that's without the weapon, which is better than this one. Like 6/23 I believe, with a stat buff. So if you didn't mistype and it really is 4 STR and 13 Stamina, then I think barbs got shafted.
Also, as a Barb I am already physically impressive, but any INT or WIS skills are going to be hurting. I understand that role-playing-wise the physical boosts are logical, but for game balance, I think Barbs get the short end on a lot of stuff. Heck, the Barb Shaman newb armor gives a whopping 2 WIS and that's after you get the weapon. So even if you dumped all your points into WIS, you are still lower than any other caster in your prime stat.
Just my little Barb gripe.

Agreed. for a newbie it isn't too bad...the freeport bard weapon isn't too bad either...
This isn't too bad as far as newbie quests and items are concerned.
The Lansex is a 6/23 magic item with no stats, and is the "other" barbarian newbie warrior weapon quest.

Since you can get most of the armor by lvl 3. Once you get this sword it's 8/29-vs-Gnolls. Excellent for when you go to Blackburrow. Yes, Twinks aren't going to want this sword. But a Newb on Maelin Starpyre would love it.
