Actually, no its not. Force Shock was the original proc. IMO a far better proc as it wasn't resisted as often and had a much cooler FX. This one is a blue/white holy kind of looking attack, same damage but it gets resisted from my experience more than when it had Force Shock.

RE: general

It should all be in the board about King Dronan, but I'll post something here about it since I got it a couple days ago on my monk and I'm sure some people are just that lazy that they won't look on the other board =P

Droga itself is a pretty easy zone and with a normal group of high 50's or a single well equipped 70 can pretty much hold any camp. To get to the camp you'll be wanting though requires nothing more than invis and a good map or a good sense of direction.

Start off by zoning in through Frontier Mountains and turning right just after the zone in. It will look like a dead end but if you keep walking you'll encounter a fake floor and take a very minor amount of fall damage, two mobs spawn down there so be careful that you're set up beforehand if you plan on fighting through (like we did.) If you're going to invis, do it at the zoneline.

These directions assume you don't have a map of some sort. You can get them over at www.mapfiend.net, however if you want to just skip to the end where it says which camp he's at. Simply run down the long, winding tunnel until you reach a rather open room with tunnels leading off in every direction. You're going to be going through the path straight west. Follow that as it tapers southward and run through the room with the small parapet on the other side. Take a right at the next junction and run pretty much straight across and to the left until you reach what seems like another dead end. Walk through the wall and you'll end up at a large area with a big pool of dirty water (blood, perhaps) in the middle. You can safely set up camp in the corner directly to the northeast of the pool. Mobs have a very low aggro range in here. King Dronan who drops the Hammer spawns inside that tunnel north of the pool, marked as 1 on the EQ Atlas map.

Alright, so now you're there. Since most mobs have a fairly small aggro range you can usually single pull them without a pacifier. Adds are common so crowd control is recommended. Most people have to play it safe but I went in there with a 70 and 63 beast for tankage and we basically ended up clearing the entire room plus Dronan spawn, so play it whichever way you want. If you're playing it safe, pull the mobs right by you near the pool and then pull the two (monk pacify at 54 wouldn't work on them so you can either split them or get a higher pacifier) inside the doorway to the north.

There are five spawns in the room where King Dronan spawns. He spawns in the far back directly opposite the entrance in. The spawn timer is a half hour and he spawned holding the hammer after the first PH was killed, I have gone for several hours with no spawn though. He's hardly powerful or anything for a solid group and he went down just as fast as an other mob. I believe he conned yellow to my 54 but don't quote me on that. Simple keep the place cleared and give enough time in between kills that you don't have to worry about adds on respawn.

Easy as pie.

The hammer itself procs about 5 times per battle on average with gantru's in Maiden's Eye on my monk, sometimes I've had about 8 but a few have been resisted. The extra damage is definitely noticable and very nice. I replaced my Entwood Mace with this and the one damage loss on the Mace is easily overtaken by the proc damage and the added stats that this thing has.

Happy hunting.

Currently Lvl 55 War. I've been using the hammer for the last 15 Lvl's or so. Recently in a raid, the raid leader told me to "throw the hammer away" because of the knockback done to the mobs, pushing them through the MA, inturn making the central healer out of range for healing purposes. Anyone else recognize this complaint? Is this not a good weaopon then to use? ...hate to cash in my hammer...=(

CHoS, a warrior's Revies
# Jan 03 2005 at 8:46 AM Rating: Good
Possibly the most popular weapon in the histroy of EQ. At one time it seemed that everyone and their pet was using one of these. And why not? After all it has a great ratio and good stats.

As a warrior this weapon is hard to beat from the mid 50's on. The major question is "At what lvl should you replace your CHoS. The answer lies in how much agro is generated by the Force Shock spell. After all it is relativly easy to get a weapon with better dps in your mid to upper 60's.

The accepted theroy seems to be that the stun is worth 450 hate points. This comes from a post on SW where a person determained that the Paly stun was worth 450 hate points, and then stated that "we can assume that all stuns generate the same amount of hate points. If you read most of the post on this form when they talk about stuns they talk about the paly stun and not the stun of the FS spell. Therefore they have accepted the theroy that all stuns generate the same agro. If this is true the proc of the CHoS is in the same league as the Anger III proc.

There are a number of ways to compair the agro generated by different weapons and their procs. One is to see how well they hold agro under the same condition. The other is to see if the proc of the weapon can grab agro when you are no on top of the hate list.
Using the "will the proc move you to the top" methood I have determaind that the FS proc is not as strong as the anger II proc.
Comparing to othere weapons a number of people have noted that the CHoS (when used in primary) generates less agro then the GSoT. Using a parser I have found the the dps of the Droga weapons is almost the same as the dps of the GSoT. Therefore we see that not all stuns generate the same amount of agro. And that the Proc of the GSoT is > the proc of the CHoS.

So the question is, to what lvl should you use the CHoS.
I would say that if you are grouping in the lower planes, doing LDoN or other pre GoD and OOW content the CHoS is fine. Howeve once you start grouping with folks who's equipment come forn the above conten you will start to have problems holding agro.

You can address these problems by adding an anger III proc to your CHoS, or by obtaining a higher dps weapon and agumenting it with a anger III proc or by obtaining a weapon with more dps and a good proc.

At lvl 68 i uses my CHoS in my off hand to rase 1hb skill, while working in less demanding content.

I am now lvl 56 shaman and have added the augmentation "Heated Blade" which procs 50...and ontop of the dps, and "Thunder strike" spell..I do truly stand alone in the world of norrath. Im not saying you can do anything, but with this hammer it makes what you have to do..much much easier.

First off, the information you've given about primary and secondary weapons is incorrect. In no way is the delay of the secondary related to the delay of the primary, ever. EQ distinguishes each weapon as a seperate entity, not grouped together in an attack round.

Quote:
However, if the attack timer for the secondary is not met when you attack, that weapon will not swing.

The offhand weapon is independent, and will attack whether or not the primary's delay is shorter or longer.

(A normal EQ "rule" is to use the smaller delay in main to maximize the damage bonus, but because the CHoS and SotBS are so close, it really doesn't apply to them.)

Second, there is no roll order to procs in EQ. Again, both are seperate actions, with no bearing on one another. Your offhand can proc without your primary procing first.

To address the main question, most people use the CHoS in primary because of a slightly better ratio and slightly better dmg on the proc. Really, it has no significance beyond that... both procs have the same amount of agro, though you can stun any lev mob with the SotBS where as 55+ are immune to the CHoS stun. Would seem that the sword would be better against 55+ casting mobs, but it is all a matter of preference.
RE: combo

Well, I was always under the impression that it was an attack round thing. If dual wield attacks are separate actions that are not dependent upon each other, then I stand corrected. However the following quote isn't completely true:

Quote:
Second, there is no roll order to procs in EQ. Again, both are seperate actions, with no bearing on one another. Your offhand can proc without your primary procing first.

If you have multiple procs with a single attack, there IS a roll order and only one can proc. Having separate weapons might effect weather or not they are separate actions, but a single action can not yield more than a single proc. For example, if you have a weapon with a proc, add an augmnent proc, and have a spell proc, then only one of these can proc on an attack. You're weapon has 3 times better chance of procing, but once one procs, none of the others will on that same attack. My statement was based on this.

I have to disagree with this as well. Having NDT and trixter augmentation on (yes they stack), and a EF LDON ice proc, I've had 2 proc in the same attack. Very easy to see when you're an enchanter with slow attacks :) I havn't had all 3 proc, but I'm sure they could. I've had combinations of all proc together, just not all 3 at once.

Just last night while hunting in LGuk, my pally received a proc from his ghoulbane AND his IoN spell (undead DD proc added to weapon for anyone wondering). This happened on multiple occasions. I only noticed a single attack at those times, however one of them could have been from a miss on his double attack.

Damage bonus is level specific as well as weapon specific (1 hander vs 2 hander). It basically adds a certain amount of melee damage to all your attacks with that weapon (ie: on one swing, you randomly hit for 40, but with a damage bonus of 6, you will hit for 46). You will never hit below the damage bonus + 1 with that weapon due to that reason.

You will begin to see a dmg bonus at lvl 28 for 1handers or 27 for 2handers.

1hander dmg bonus = (lvl-25)/3

2hander dmg bonus before lvl 51 = (lvl-25)/2

lvl 51 and after = (lvl-7)/3

Lucy has a wonderful damage bonus chart here.

The dmg bonus will only apply to the weapon that you have in your primary slot, and will not apply to any offhand weapons. The reason you put your faster weapon in primary is to maximize the potential of this damage bonus.

If you swing with the Wurmslayer, a 25/40 1hs, you will have the oportunity to use that damage bonus once every 4 seconds (10 delay = 1 second). In one minute, that is 15*dmgbonus more damage.

If you swing a Razor Edged Shan Tok, a 12/20 1hs, you have the possibility of 30*dmgbonus more damage. It has nearly the same dmg/dly ratio as the wurmy, but the extra damage will put it over the top.

Both weapons, due to the fact that they are 1handed, have the same damage bonus.

This is the basis behind the "fastest weap in primary" rule.

What about proc rate?

I just purchased one of these as a lvl 53 ranger with a dex of 144, unbuffed. I was expecting this to proc similar to the spiked velium malet, which seems to proc all the time.

Boy was I dissappointed. I know that this weapon is reccomended for lvl 56, so is that the reason that this weapon only procs maybe once, sometimes not at all, a fight. I have my 1hb skill maxed for my lvl so I dont know if this weapon has some type of proc limiter on it or if it has to do with the recomended lvl. The velium mallet procs everytime I use it, most times 3-4 times a fight.

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem with this weapon.
RE: What about proc rate?
# Sep 07 2004 at 10:28 PM Rating: Good
Most weapons in the game have the same proc rate (2 procs/minute with 305 dex). If you check the Raw item information on Lucy for an item, and the "procratemod" field has a value of 0... it is the default rate of 2 procs/minute.

The procratemod field is a % modifier. For instance, the Greatstaff of the Four Winds has a procrate mod of 30. This means it procs 30% more often, or 2.6 procs/minute (1.30 * 2 = 2.6).

what to buy
# Jun 08 2004 at 8:26 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, for background Ive got a 65 warrior and 51 shadowknight.
Once I got my warrior to 65 I went around buying and aquiring
tons of weapon combos. Nothing was more disapointing then the
windblade. I sold it two days after buying one. Still have my
warmarshal bladed staff as its the best 2h slash Ive got.
It also completely owns over every other 2hander I have
access too. Though for maintanking, dual 1-handers are still
always best for aggro management for a warrior, and for a
knight class the single best weapon thats decently easy to
get is the Two Tined Corpse Pitchfork, but wmb is a lot more
dps so its prolly more useful overall. I use copper hammer
of striking and bloodsworn sword, at the end of the day
these cheap weapons really hold massive aggro. If your a
knight class just go warmarshal, or get a 1:1 knight class
1 hander and a good shield.

As of this week the Nerf Bat came through and knocked the Proc lvl to 50. Now he's 8th with a Plain ole Hammer with a Damage of 3, lol. Guess he could put it in the bank and wait until it gets to a Damage that he can use it, or it starts to Proc.
Do you think he still considers his 12k money well spent?

I hate SOE. I don't understand if they are going to nerf things all the time or even better patch ever friggin day why don't they take their time and do it right the first time? Everyone knew that they were going to nerf this weapon and every other weapon that they make to be uber. I think they do it just to **** you off! They keep throwing expansions at you so you buy them then once they go live they start to fix em.. Come on SOE I will let you know a little secret it's called TEST SERVER. That is what it is there for to make sure it's ready to go when you launch it not so it can just sit there come on a monkey with half a brain could figure that out. As for nerfing you think they would know by now people make twinks, why make something that proc's a 150dd at level 1? are they stupid.. I say yes. They make us happy get our hopes up and then they pull the carpet out from under us and let us bust our bum bum's. I love EverQuest I have played ever other MMORPG and I always come back to EverQuest why cause its the best out there. They try to make things fair for everyone but please try to do things right the frist time now i have a weapon I paid 14k for that does proc oh I liked it to proc. I don't see that this changes things all that much. I mean, sure, you can't have your level-ten alt proc a 150-damage DD spell anymore, but this is still one of the best droppable weapons. 13/20 ratio, Strength +8, Hit Points +65, and a kickass proc. I'm sure the price will go down some, but with recent addition of Recommended Levels to equipment, weapons like this are supposed to be used by people in their 50s and 60s.

As a mid-50's paladin you should start shifting your focus to 2-hand weapons as the damage bonus after 55 or so, along with the 2-hand AA's that are available to you, will make 1-hand weapons a lot less viable for you as far as DPS is concerned. All of this of course revolves around tanking, which is what you will do as a paladin since paladin DPS sucks.

Fast weapons = more riposte damage, and casting stuns, which is a paladin's bread and butter for getting and holding aggro, will decrease the number of swings you make with a 1-hand weapon, thus decreasing your DPS.

With a big, slow 2-hand weapon, you can swing, stun, swing, stun, swing, stun....you get the idea. You will miss far fewer swings while casting when wielding a slow 2-hander. Also, the slower swings will decrease riposte damage, and that matters against mobs that are hitting you for 500-1k dmg, depending on where you are tanking, and what defensive AA you have.

Getting directly to your question though, a paladin should never get a weapon based on aggro generation. Your spell book is as far as you'll ever have to look for that.

EDIT: As the poster below mentions, I have tanked mobs on numerous occasions with attack off. I equip my 1-hand and shield combo for max HP/AC, and I just stun the crap out of the mob. It always makes me feel good when wizards can burn up their mana on a mob and the mob never even thinks about leaving my side because I have aggro locked down from stuns.

The ratio on this is terrible for a paladin. For the same price as this weapon, you can easily get a nice 1h or 2h weapon with a ratio better than 1, such as War Marshall's bladed staff, Adjutant's sabre, or similar.

This is a weapon for dual wielders.

And for aggro keeping: stun, stun, stun. I have seen a paladin hold aggro thru a boss mob fight, with autoattack turned OFF, just by using stuns.

Stun

It's quite a long way off in these posts but in answer to those asking about the stun effect, I have one of these and when it procs after giving the damage from the force shock it says that the target is immune to the stun effect from this weapon, or words to that effect. I think that basically they built the weapon with a stun and then upgraded it to force shock or maybe it had both then it would be have been trully godly :-)

It does stun and DD. If you're getting the message "Your target is immune to the stun portion of this effect." it doesn't mean the weapon's proc no longer stuns, it just means you're fighting mobs that are immune to stun, like most giants.

Force Shock is a DD spell with a stun/knockback component similar to the Cleric/Paladin stun-line spells.

The knockback is a pain in the butt sometimes...

question

I am using this hammer now lvl 42 bard 155 dex(was using with 255 dex buffed). When in over there it proc maybe once ever two mobs. In DL didn't proc once with 10 mobs. What am i missing?
RE: question

you're missing LUCK ... proc is based on dex of course ... however, it's also based on luck...

Example: (fictional)
100dex = 1 out of 100 chance proc
150dex = 1 out of 50 chance proc
etc...etc...
now even with 1 out of 2 chance proc ... like flipping a coin ... you will still miss and get the wrong face...

if out of 1000 mobs that you kill and you don't see a nice proc ratio total, your JINXED! You need to do the deJinx quest (once they make one). Either that or EQ hates you... i'm sry
