Did both the Aria quests at once. Took me about 4 hours. So yes, the lute drops in August 08 and it takes longer than you'd like ... in some cases, a lot longer.
Been killing for hours and hours, no Lute, grrr.
Another 2 hours of non-stop killing of those 3 mobs listed above, still no lute. Gah! Seems to be very rare:(

I got the lute off a shady_treasure_sorter in Dulak , a Dark Elf on about my 4th kill.

dropped off of the guy that pops in front of the pen... took 4kills. while was there killed 2 captains and a name that poped in front of pen... all soloed at 52...
I've spent a lot of time in Dulak, for the last 5 levels, & I've seen several of these -- I'd say at least 5-6. They're not common drops, but I'm surprised to read that people have spent hours killing Dulak yard trash, & not yet seen a single lute.
I mostly camp over where Treasure Sorter Neiben spawns, & pull from the two warehouses there.

AE:ed pretty much all houses, and the docks and everything around. 3000 mobs, no drop. Such a crap...

I was just about convinced that they had taken these out of the game, having killed at a bare minimum of 50 of those twinkish treasure sorters (along with several hundred storage attendants and others) in Dulak over the past two weeks.
Finally got my lute 6/28/04, from a dark elf treasure sorter in the building described in Telepath's post, though we were also pulling them from the building across the street. The dropping mob also took about 3x more life off our pally tank than any other mobs previously, so be aware that Sony may perhaps be trying to make this tougher to get.
Not that bards have trouble killing much of anything in Dulak. :-)

Went there yesterday. Solo'd court area just before Oceancrasher. Dropped the lute and boy was I surprised to see it. Good place to solo with room to kite and plenty of mobs just out of aggro range. Getting 4 song twist to take for 75pts = 300 per tick = 50 DPS! They don't last long. Will be 53 in no time w/ 1% xp per mob.

Just got mine tonight.
They drop off the Shady Treasure Sorters. More often then not it is specifically the Dark Elf Shady Treasure Sorters.

Been camping this for some weeks now on AB and no sight of it.
I will give up because i dont think its worth weeks of camping.
Bugged, nerfed or rare, i dont know, common its NOT.
Killed A Storage Attendant An Armory Guardian and all mobs around that adds, did /ooc for drop but no sight of it.
Have went from low 50 to high 52 in level by only kite for this **** in Dulak so i give soon up, Verant can put this in somewhere there sun doesnt shine.

Well I really wanted a cure curse song for some of the LDoN dungeons and decided to try for this.
It is very easy to get with a little bard patience.
just before you get to the dock to boat #3 there is a large open courtyard with oceancrashers to the north of it.
Just south is a house that spawns 6 guys inside and one outside. The one in the middle and the one in the back left corner are both Shady treasure sorters. If you pac (level 8 bard song kellins lug lamant) the rest of the house and the one outside you can pull each of the shady's to the courtyard and run a big happy bard circle till it is dead. Just twist Selos(49) cause it lasts a couple minutes and u can focus on dots.
and chants of frost poison and disease with a drum.
the third one spawns just to the east in front of a big barn.
there are lots of wanderers going in front of the barn so pac those whenever they go by.
there is one oceancrasher sort of in the middle (she was the only add i got the whole time doing this)

Seems that not only the treasure sorters drop this thing since i already found 4 in 2 days off different creatures including Trolls and Ogres
