Perma pet trick

If I recall correctly if you give the proced pet a weapon it makes the pet permanent, I like to give it the super fast whips the gnolls drop in Karanas.
Very rare

I farm the Balls of Golem Clay, the Earthen Fists, and this Whip. The whip is by far the rarest drop. Usually get a Ball of Golem Clay every 4 or 5 Warlord kills and an earthen fists every 10 to 15 Vekerchiki's. But this whip can take 20-30 kills sometimes.

i spent 4 hours today in PoE with a very good grp.. camped for the prismatic basilisks, not 1 whip dropped. im trying to think why.. but i was dissapointed, i dont get grps in PoE very often at all, i probly wont ever get this whip..
Proc level

I've got one and I'm using it off-hand, just for the Proc (aug'd with the 100 point Frost stone) and I can confirm that the proc triggers as low as lvl 36 (when I bought mine on FV, only 270k for a re-rolled Ranger).

I suspect it might be a Lvl 0 proc (like the slot 4 Augs) but with the high Rec Lvl, it'd be next to useless at anything below about 20

I got this weapon a few weeks ago. Since it's not mentioned here, the Prismatic spawn was fixed several patches ago. It now spawns rarely, but does spawn. I know of at least three traps I've spawned it from, not sure if it can spawn from the others. The whip is still definitely silly rare. Over a three week period camping it, I saw close to 20 masks rot before the whip dropped.

The pet proc hits for 8-94. It lasts for 10 seconds. You can't charm or DC the pet, since you can't charm someone else's pet to begin with. You can have multiple pets. I was under the impression three was the maximum, but on more than one occasion I've had four pets up at once. Not four procs, but I could count four separate pets. Once I proc'd five pets, though I couldn't tell whether the first one despawned due to the timer or the fifth pet caused one to poof. I assume it was the timer. This was with WA5.

Overall DPS on the weapon is pretty impressive considering it's a one-group item. It's got higher DPS than any Luclin era 1hander (including the AHB) and any PoP 1hander up to the EP Gods. Better DPS than Stone Etched Mallet, Jiva 1hs, Agnarr 1hs, and either of the good LDoN weapons (17/20 and 16/19 after mods).

The pets do have a bit of push on them, so you have to be careful. The push is actually quite useful when tanking, since it will offset pets/PCs hitting from behind. These pets will trigger the mob spawning from Carprin or Shei, so be mindful if you have this weapon and are doing either of those encounters.

Was in PoE last night, didn't seem like they made him spawn less...he spawned on us 3 times and killed us all. Everytime we saw him was about 15-30min after the one before

Correction on my last post. Pets actually last 10 seconds, not 5 =). Anyone know if the pet can actually be charmed or DC'd? would be great if they could be.

I just received this whip tonight. Prismatic Basilisk spawned twice in 2 hours (red con BTW), dropped caster mask first time and whip second time. VERY,VERY nice weapon. It procs a wolf pet that says "Trixxy's Pet" above it, doubles for 52-90, and despawns after about 5 seconds. BUT, it also multi spawns, and I have had many instances with 2 pets up at the same time.

I just won this on my 56 ranger, Secondary Assist on Brell. It procs quite a bit at 56, unlike what a user before me posted saying it procced at 62.

Item Rarity
# Feb 19 2004 at 1:50 AM Rating: Decent
First off you should know that this item is anything BUT common. It requires A) The server to have been reset B) You to be the lucky ranger to spawn the mobs trap. C) To be able to kill the mob. and then D) This is a very rare drop even when you do kill him.

So basically there is a 1/10 chance on a server up for this mob to spawn, and drop the whip... Better luck on the IHB if you're at this stage in the game.
RE: Item Rarity
# Apr 19 2004 at 12:30 PM Rating: Decent
Actually server up has nothing to do with this mob spawning, the trap seems to be quite random. While clearing two of the earth rings the other day my guild had the Prismatic Basilisk spawn four times. However you are right about the drop being rare, he dropped the mask all four times.

What does this weapon look like wielded? Does it look like a normal old whip or does it have some sort of unique graphic? Thanks.
RE: ?
# Jan 02 2004 at 3:26 PM Rating: Decent
it looks like a regular old barbed(or leather or any other kind) whip, just procs grey wolfs that say Soandso's pet above em, max hit of 94 average dps of about 50

This is a pretty nice weapon. There is alot of other weapons id use beforehand, i.e. Render of souls, AHB, but the proc on this is sweet. Its pretty much a toy imo, but a fun one. And the reason we play is to have fun. I use BBB off of seru as 2handers is the way to go on a Zek, but this would be fun to greif greenies with.I cant wait to get to PoE, if ever.

Where is the trap
# Oct 30 2003 at 4:13 PM Rating: Decent
can anyone tell me where from the front entrance is the trap? and is the prismatic basalisk one groupable?
RE: Where is the trap
# Dec 14 2003 at 4:30 PM Rating: Decent
The croc spawns in any of the triggered traps VERY rarly...the enterance trap is triggered as soon as you run out of the zone in, so once you're in the field, turn around and you'll see a croc...if it's not the named, gotta kill and wait for re-spawn. It's rare as all crap though, and when it does spawn, 9 times out of 10 it's prolly gonna drop the mask

Thats what I was told what drops this weapon. a random mob from the trap close to zone in and extremely rare and the worst part is it doesnt drop it everytime it can also drop some wizard thing i was told. If anyone has other information on what drops this or a site that has the mob listed or even a person who has this weapon please post what drops it. I been XPing non stop in PoE and have yet to even see this
how to obtain?

This be a great offhander for a ranger or main hander depending on your weapons. A weapon that summons a pet like the Old Vox scimitar is ownage. Since a ranger using this will more than likely be behind the mob the pet wont get killed by riposte. Only thing i can see bad with this weapon is a mob like shei where a player or pet dies creats an Add. other than that I think this a real nice weapon a muct have for all rangers. As it being to fast and getting agro are you a KOOK. a fast weapon alone wont over agro a Blade of War or a warrior using a BoC/BF or other like EB combo, not to mention AE taunt cha buffs SK hate buff and his taunting ETC ETC ETC. I use a 19 del and 20 del weapon and I only out agro weak non EB equipped tanks in XP groups. Besides there are 3 jolt line spells i can use as well. Now onto some other buisness.

My main is a ranger, and yes AM3 EQ gives a ranger uneaqual DPS with very low agro. However in XP groups I prefer to melee because on raids i spend all my time shooting arrows unless the mob is walled, adds in camp mezzed, cant get good LoS, space doesnt allow it. For rangers who abandoned the path of a ranger and became archers even in XP groups at times find themselves constantly moving about trying to find the spot to shoot and hit the mob. They either dont hit the mob or get wall agro and cause trains. So a true ranger knows when archery is useless and melee is best.

Dont forget archery for rangers was an alternate form of damage was never meant for primary means. Just with very little advances for melee classes to keep up in DPS in comparasion to casters rangers use AM3 to gain the DPS values needed for PoP. If and when SOE makes changes and allows melee classes to do more damage in melee up close and personal combat ,AM3 is the best DPS a ranger can obtain until then.

However a ranger still needs to keep close combat weapons up to date as well cause sometimes archery isnt possible. Any ranger of my calibre of play knows this for fact and most are old timers like me that still like to get up close and personal to mobs and use DD spells and play rangers to the full extent of the class and have a lot of fun doing it too.

AM3 has created one MAJOR flaw and that is it gave weak under-skilled rangers a shroud to hide their total ignorance of the class and actually give rangers a bad name. Before PoP/late Luclin all the high level rangers i seen was very adequate at the class and had skilled players. Now I have seen far to many terrible rangers being played by people who just cant play the class beyond shooting a bow and casting buffs. I wish all rangers that fall into that category quit EQ E-bay or change classes.

I agree heartily on your point about knowing when to melee and when to use archery.

However I think you're too hard on players that prefer the bow. EQ is essentially a fantasy rpg, which allows for people to play the game in character.

While your non-roleplay, maximum efficiency method is certainly valid, so is the choice of those with other styles of play.

To use a real world comparison, give a sniper a standard issue machine gun and he'll do well, give him a sniper rifle and he'll shine.

The line-of-sight issue, while realistic, is impractical. Have you ever seen melees standing behind other melees while fighting a mob? It would be a different story if melee had LOS issues to contend with too. So in this regard archers have an unfair disadvantage.

Another thing that I have seen in other rpgs that would make a cool addition to this game, is the concept of a point-blank-range AA for rangers. A ranger with EQ/AM3/PBR would make a great addition to DPS, and allow the roleplay archers to hold their own with the other classes.

Anyone that thinks ranger's waste their time by specializing in archery should consider playing a bard. They also have excellent tracking ability, make great DPS, but have additional, and very useful abilties to help their group, such as crowd-control, group utility songs, etc.

Some classes in EQ are considered essential to a good group, such as a tank, a cleric and a chanter, while others are considered support classes, still useful, but nothing a group would say "hey, we can't do this LDON without a ...!" about. Ranger is one of those classes. Usually welcome, but usually the last kid in the yard to be picked for a team. We play them coz we love the concept of a nature based skirmisher, modeled after the likes of Aragorn or the Elves in LOTR.

Having said all that, I can certainly understand your frustration about a player who would *refuse* to melee in favor of a bow. The class can only do well for smart players, and waiting a whole fight for a clear shot is not smart. When you can't get a clear shot or are in close confines, it's *definitely* time to put the old bow away and pull out those sharp pointy sticks and join the fray!

Geeze people stop with the "way too fast for the non-agro ranger" I use a Swiftwind in the offhand, and a 17dly, 11dmg weapon and rarely, I mean extremely rarely get agro where I have to use jolt. I am only lvl 57 but I do know that fast has nothing to do with it, it is how well the Ranger controls his agro. A Ranger able to get this weapon knows how to do just that or he/she never woulda made it this far, Plain and simple. If this weapon scares you because of agro I know I'll never have to worry about hoping I have more DKP points than you on that riad because you will never make it this far.

LOL, that last post was a little harsh, perhaps, but by the level you get this, you're not meleeing in groups, you're shooting arrows from a distance of 400+. But, when you are in groups where you can melee, or soloing, this is not too fast, it's deadly to the mob. If agro is a problem, put the jolting blades proc on and since it's so fast, that will proc even more often. Duh.

Man, some people. Can't make them happy. I would LOVE to get this weapon!

BTW, it has a recommended level of 62 and procs at 62. Reports of up to three swarm pets (wolves) up at a time are common. Three wolves attacking at a time while you're swinging = great DPS. So yes, Jolting Blades may be necessary. So what!

Too fast? Any player in PoEarth BETTER be able to know how to keep from getting aggro. If you dont, your either an ebayer or a moron. Either way you just need to leave the zone.

At least they are being honest.
And they are right... if you can't figure out how to keep your aggro down as a 65 ranger with (insert number of aa here)... you shouldn't have elemental acess to have a chance at ever seeing this weapon.
