I've been to AC many, many times and have just got this for the first time today. I have droped the high priest MANY times and never got before. I'd have to say rare, not uncommon.

Easy enough to solo as a 65 shaman. Just root him and let him blow his mana trying to cast on you. After awhile, start dotting him, then lay on Spirit Call at the end to interrupt any CH attempt if he saved the mana for it.

Dropped the compass first time for me.

This is the High Priest's uncommon drop. I have killed him many times and he seems to drop about seven Grimling Contraptions for every one of these. That's my experience at least.

This dropped a few days ago off a grimling high priest that wandered into the jail region in inner acrylia while we were clearing for AC shards. Hits for 300+. Killed him between a 65 rogue and my 65 cleric.

This drops from a Grimling High Priest. We killed him about 3 weeks ago with a 65 WIZ, 65 PAL and my 65 DRU.

Compass of KHATI SHA and beastlords can't equip? Grumble, grumble <cough> bad storyline <cough>
Call it instead Grimling Compass of Pure-Wis-Casters-Only and leave a cool name like Khati Sha to stuff us beastlords can use.

brazenknight, ur very right about him being a hero, but more specifically, he was one of the first beastlords, and was the first to venture deep into the untamed wilderness in luclin. he discovered the vast amounts of acrylia of which most of shar vahl is made from. its disappointing that a compass owned by the greatest beastlord to ever grace luclin with his presence is not beastlord-equipable. i think it should be bst-only. (but then again i also think there should be a form of armor much like wu's, but made from shade silk swatches and heady paela, named after khati sha, so maybe im just losing my mind)

The reason this is called the compass of Khati Sha is due to the fact that the evil Shissar found the faithful hero of the Vah Shir, named Khati Sha, and did BAD things to him :( Being a Vah Shir myself, the Shissar are now the top of my list of most hated mobs (was formerly those dirty grimlings). Whatever the Shissar did to Khati Sha, they messed him up pretty bad, and now he is the Grimling Master.

In summary, the big bad mob of Acrylia Caverns IS Khati Sha, therefore having a piece of loot named Compass of Khati Sha drop from one of his minions does make sense. It just took some research with the legend of lies and some of the new quests in Grimling Forest to find out why it made sense.

Nice plot twist, but being Vah Shir it makes me mad to see what those evil Shissar did to one of our heroes.

#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 12 2003 at 10:24 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hello? Does breastplate of vinidiction drop for vindi to use it? No, he drops it. Items arent named for you because you loot it. They are named after the person who you looted it from.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 12 2003 at 12:20 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Do a LITTLE research and you will find that Khati Sha is the Vah Shir order of the BEASTLORD. It is not a person it is the BEASTLORD order ok. Meaning the only beings that CAN be Khati Sha are VAH SHIR BEASTLORDS. Not druids or shaman or even cleric. So this is a exceptionally BAD piece of story. That is what he was stating not that it was named after someone because they loot it.
Do a little more research...

The beastlord order was named after the Vah Shir hero. That hero's name was Khati Sha, and according to the lore, he was one of the founding fathers and a great explorer.

At some point during his exploration, he was captured by the Shissar, who attempted to turn him into a demi-god. That experiment went horribly wrong, Khati Sha was twisted and demented and ended up tearing up a bunch of Shissar, after which he lost all memory of what he is, and what he was, so he wandered Luclin rather aimlessly untill he happened upon a set of caverns.

These caverns, what we have come to know as Acrylia Caverns, were largely uninhabited, except for a few odd beings. With his powers, he propogated those beings, and created the entire race of grimlings.

The Compass of Khati Sha fits in nicely with the story, since he was an adventurer, it would make sense that he have a compass. It would also make sense that at some point during his transformation, he lost it. It is not out of the realm of possibility that he lost it in the caverns, nor is a grimling finding it.

That easily ties together the reason why it doesn't drop from Khati Sha, and could be an explanation as to why it's not usable by beastlords. He is no longer a beastlord, nor does he have any recollection of his legacy.

As far as the "exceptionally bad piece of story", that's largely false, the story makes a great deal of sense, once you actually do some decent research. The revamp with acrylia actually tied up a lot of luclin unknowns.

I'm a lore nut, it's one of my favorite things about the game. Most of this information can be dug up by posts on the Beastiary section of the site, as well as the safehouse (some 13 page thread there about Acrylia.)
