I spent too much time trying to get one of these. Went to Gfay, Commons, Blightfire Moors, Crushbone, Crescent Reach and Befallen before ending up in Neriak Woods. Killed mobs in every zone for at least 30 mins except the last one. I settled in Neriak at the wizard spires and got 2 in 6 minutes.

Tried the turn-in with Human SK diety Bertoxxulous (dubious to Druid facton but threatingly to Ranger) on Ragefire with the INVIS spell and Master didn't accept the swords.

Dropped by 'a dusty mummy' in Blackfeather Roost.

I noticed mummy is not yet in bestiary.
it's a tiny mummy roaming in 1st island, sees invis.
Best place to get one

I had a hard time finding one of these for my druids newby weapon quest in gfay. By far the best place I have found to get these is off the putrid skeles in South Karana. The camp is just south west of the north karana bridge, the skeles and putrids drop them often.

Anyone know what they did to change this item? seems like a silly item to me... it's not even needed to for basic smithing anymore...

they do sell for slightly more to vendors, but it costs 4 copper to buy a sharpening stone; if you fail the combine you lose the stone but not the rusty weapon. So a second combine will have cost you 8 copper, etc...
It's a personal choice for each new person. Should I sell the rusty weapon? or am I interested in starting the basics of smithing?

But if you convert them to tarnished you can further convert them to blocks of ore or pieces depending on the rusty which can be a big savings when practicing smithing.
Sell

Sell them, or give them to a Pet
