I've been killing Trak as often as I find him up
for about 6 months now and he has yet to drop
this BP for me. I've gotten multiples of almost every
other BP. Aggrivation is an understatement. All I want
is a Tolan's, just give one to me Trak and I'll let
you go in peace!!

me and I'm a happy Ranger with a full set of Tolan's
armor.... now if that wind saber would just drop...

This item has really come down in price, I just picked one up for 50k on Xegony. I bought this for the clickie as an alternative to buying gate-pots.

In today's game, unless you have a lower level RNG or want a plate graphic, it is much more cost effective to buy gate potions.

Most folks bind in the Guild Lobby for ease in summon-rez-rebuff recovery. The Tolan BP takes you to Lesser Faydark requiring 3 zones to reach the Guild Lobby.

It is handy for porting after level 45 to L.Fay. Also, if money is no object and you want a RNG toy, by all means blow the coin. :)

another good thing about actually using the Tolan's is that
if you time it right you can hit Weapon Shield and then
click on the BP and be ported out by it before WS wears off.
A lifesaver for when I'm being swarmed by mobs.
I still carry it around with me just for that reason.
Tolan's BP FAQs
# Dec 30 2005 at 8:20 PM Rating: Decent
1. Where does it port you? A: It ports you to Lesser Faydark next to the Greater Faydark zone line.

2. What is the cast time? A: 30 seconds

3. What does it look like when it is equipped? A: It has a plate look with a light brown color.

4. Is it worth 100k? A: You better believe it :)
RE: Tolan's BP FAQs
# May 09 2006 at 7:49 AM Rating: Decent
4. Worth 100k? I would say absolutly NOT

I mean come one, gate potions are what, 125pp a time to make thats around 800 gate potions before you reach that mark. Thats a LOT of gating

Yes it has nice stats on it to use from lvl 1 (I know the clickie doesn't) but there are better. By the time you can use it, you have better to wear also

Now you may well be able to argue why it is worth 100k, my opiniopn is its not. 30-50k MAX more like it, but then thats mu oppinion

I lead a raid friday night and hit Trakanon. He dropped in a matter of seconds. Well I am one happy Ranger:P Dropped Tolans BP, Mana Robe, the Sinue and 4 Tak teeth:)

This BP ROCKS!!!! and it makes those bb ldon adventures a lot more palatable lol.

And no my guild is not uber. We are anything but uber. This Dragon is a gimp by todays standards, with an extremely under rated loot table. Some of those BPs do some really uber tricks even by todays standards.

Just grabbed up this rare BP for 150K, and it is worth every copper spent on it. Considering a stack of gate potions runs 4K each, this BP will pay for itself many times over.

Uninterruptable evac for rangers. How do you beat that? No wonder you almost never see one for sale in bazaar. They're just too useful to the peeps that own them, even if they wear something else, they probably keep this one in their backpack to swap on if they have to make a fast getaway.

RE: Evac
# Dec 31 2003 at 8:03 AM Rating: Excellent
Yup, thats exactly what I got it for.. always wanted one but by the time I could afford one I had better so it sits in my pack till I need to port. Wonderful for the Ranger who has ventured far from civilization and needs to get back quickly. On a side note tho, it CAN be interrupted... the trick is to have your back to something solid, that will cut down the chances of it happening. The only time mine was interrupted was when getting hit moved me back a few steps. I found a nifty little combo to ensure it works is tap weaponshield right b4 you click it and you will parry every attack from your front buying you just enough time to port safely! This BP rocks if your thinking about getting one, then do its worth it. If you already have one grats you know how precious it really is. :)

Got it tonight on a raid I lead to Trak, didn't actually think I'd ever see it drop, but done a few anyway in case. Thanks to Arrowbearer for kindly rolling a 6 as the other ranger there =)

Few things I noticed / thoughts.

1. Combat use. The spell can be interrupted. It can be interrupted by things hitting you (though it seems rare so far) so perhaps this has been changed. Also, the SLIGHTEST movement will interrupt it - don't even turn left or right.

2. It ports you to the Gfay zoneline in Lesser Faydark - ie about 30 seconds away from the PoK book outside Felthwie. Which is pretty great, essentially a PoK port.

3. Best use apart from the norm seems to be in places like Seb where you may be a long way from the zoneline / locked in. Furthermore, you can now be a melee in a group of casters going to dangerous, gate-might-be-needed places without having a druid or wizzie there.

4. Best wipe use suggestions: If you're not wearing it (which you probably aren't at 65ish) ... Switch from bag, click Weaponshield on, cast BP. You now have 15 seconds of the 30 second cast time which are hp-loss free and interrupt free. Hope the other 15 seconds hold out =)

Only other thing that can better it is the third PoK Tali imo, and you have to be EP for that, and it's still a long and hard quest to get pieces for it. And until I get that, my BP will always be in my bag (ornate pips it stats-wise with the HP I'm afraid) in case I fall down a pit or something. Much happy tonight, thanks to the Dead Dwagon!
i love.

The other night in Seb my BP got it's first real test. The zone crashed and I log back to find no grp, and a very empty dhall the the froggies found me. 3 of them on me heath going down fast what do you do. Clicked my BP and prayed I figured I was toast 3 mobs beating on me and i'm still taking hits. 5 seconds left i'm wating for the "spell interrupted" msg to show 1 bubble of hp left and I see it "Loading please wait...." Bam I'm in Lfay and I'm alive. Cheers to the Tolan BP

I believe that the clickable effect is uninteruptable unless you move. That might be why the spell was not interupted.

lol...you're profile is great...a couple thing are lacking though...while you have plenty AC and ATK (hehe...magelo doesn't caluclate that, so you can enter any value you want)...but given the available equipment you have, you're wis isn't too great (should be 255). You're HP's not bad(could be better) but the resists are a little low. But once again, you said that you'd delete the tolan's darkwood BP if you looted it, like Percuno said, then why do you have one in your inventory? (guess with all your time being spent making fake magelo profiles, you haven't had time to delete the BP yet) = P
RE: POS
# Jun 26 2002 at 2:40 PM Rating: Default
Very fake profile you have there. You're wearing a GM BP (the effect says GUIDE HEALTH).

You also have a Breastplate of the Void in your inventory which is isn't even ranger usuable and is no drop. Unless your raiding party was smoking crack, you wouldn't have it.

Not only that but you have over 10000 ac and atk. again very fake.

I have this BP - It has saved my butt more than a few times. Say you're doing the Royals in Chardok and the tide turns against you - a wipe is imminent, Clerics are dead, Main Tank, SA TA either dead or dying, no chance of survival. Right click the BP and pray for 30 secs. BOOM - you are in LFay. Don't get me wrong, if you need to stand and die, you do it, but sometimes it's OK to port out and noone minds a bit. One less corpse to summon, one more for the rescue team - whatever.
Another nice deal - you are on a raid and RL pops up - you have to log - you are in PoH or Umbral Planes or Kael Arena, ToV, Faydedar raid, whereever (or the raid is over for that matter) - no looking for a wizzy to port you out, just click and go.
Advantage 3 - since SoL, it's easy to get anywhere (except WC) - just port to LFay, zone to either GFay for wizzy spires - Meet your wizzy friend for port or go anywhere via Nexus Port
(Velious is normally 3 minutes or less from the time you get to Nexus from GFay), or run to Steamfont Druid rings to meet your druid friend to hook up for a group.
Bottom line - this BP gives Rangers the freedom to port themselves - something I will NEVER give up. Even if I get a BP with better stats, I will keep this one just to Port at will.
If you aren't fortunate enough to be on a Trak raid where this drops and you get it, then by all means, if you ever get the chance RanJars, BUY IT - you will never regret it.

Ever heard of the Thurgadin Gate potion? Easy to do, and yes, it is just *one* potion, but I keep 10 others in the bank 1 step away from the final combine (result is LORE, NO DROP). I have a basicly "free" port to Thugadin (also VERY close to the Luclin/Wiz spires) off of the Planes, or anywhere else that I can't get out of. Added bonus: The cast time is about as fast as a gate spell to cast. I'm in trouble soloing? Gonna die with a nasty CR? Pray that my roots stick on the mob(s) beating on me, then *poof*, back to Thurg. I talk to one NPC (close to the bank), do one combine (haven't failed on it yet, the pottery part I have, but this is just adding an NPC item, not using the wheel) and I am good to go, have another gate potion.

Farming the stuff out of crystal caverns to make this potion is easy. Orcs for velium, crystal spiders for crystaline silk, easily soloed at my level, and easily grouped earlier, look up the forums on CC. For the level this zone has great loot, plus a bank in zone. MADE for farming this stuff, no need to carry heavy velium around.

Pottery skill needed for this potion is 120 trivial. Getting pottery to 122 is a joke. Has to be the easist skill to master (at least up to there). The guide I used said "pottery to 122 in Thurgadin in under an hour for less than 20pp". The guide was right. In under an hour, for less than 20pp, I was ready for the ability to gate to Thurg for the rest of my EQ career (already had done the farming).

I was able to stay in the Plane of Hate when everyone camped for the night at the safespot, even though I wasn't sure if I would make it back in time the next day to meet up with everyone before we left for good. I can run to the Spires for a port to the nexus in a matter of minutes, even in the middle of the night when I can't find a port. I can go into zones I have no way out of and do some exploring, and know I can get out at any time.

If your faction isn't good enough to talk to the merchants in Thurg, sneak works well, if you have it (if you are a ranger, you have it). All the items to make the potion are farmed out of Crystal Caverns easily, which the entrance to is just a zone away from Thurg, so when I see supplies running low, I hop in there for a bit. Loot isn't bad there, so no biggie. I even can get the Blackened Crystaline Robe to sell, or the herbalist pack, or a few other decent sellable items while I'm there.

If you have this BP, grats, you are either in a good guild that hits that spot often, or you have a ton of money. Either way, why not have a port to BOTH Velious and Faydark? If you don't have this BP, do yourself a favor and make this potion, over and over. The BP you won't see for a long time, if at all, this potion can be made as soon as you are high enough level (late 20's?) to group in Crystal Caverns.

For the complete guide to make the gate potion, go here:

same as camp.. basically it's not gonna save yer butt any better than a camp will... i think that's the point here.. although you have less aggro standing casting a spell than you do sitting trying to camp... i think the benefits of this bp are infinit and i can't wait to get my hands on one. i know for damn sure i'll never be lettin' go of it even if i do. :)

You mean other than the fact that sitting down to camp immediately makes you a nice target and you get hit for a ton of damage and stand back up again? You CANNOT camp while something is on you. You can, however, cast spells.

RE: lvl 7 girl with it
# Nov 27 2001 at 11:35 AM Rating: Excellent
twinking is a double-edged sword, and a practice that seems to have become much less frowned upon as the servers have aged.

on the one hand, the *real* victory of EQ, having reached 60, is suddenly finding oneself with amazing items, still slightly less powerful than currently weilded items, which are *not* no-drop. after spending many real-life months sitting in the sales zone of the server, bored, hoping for a "bite" on that high-end, mega-expensive item, eventually the temptation of bestowing a magnificent item upon one's own newly-created character becomes too hard to avoid. there's certainly something pimp about walking around, level 1-10, wearing a tolan's breastplate. (what's rarely realized however is that instead of magnanimous awe, the emotions observers over 30 are having are merely jealousy and a new sense of "well ***** this then, god, i work my *** off for a k-mart brand plywood lizardslayer and there's a level 10 over there with a geldarf's staff of amazing wondertude" and typically they log off and commit suicide.) to some that's not nice behavior. others like to inspire this feeling in others.

the other side of the coin is this. aside from causing others to look at you jealously, you now have a character without many goals other than leveling. since this character can be spoon-fed practically any item he or she wants by daddy, the art of the quest is now kind of boring. sure, it's an "all-new class" with "all new quests" but who cares? you're wearing tolan's darkwood chestplate. you sure you want to replace it with ivy etched once you easily complete the quest?

my ranger twinked my chanter at the beginning. i felt like i'd earned at least that much ability. i got him some ghostly robes, a staff of writhing, and a few other things. nothing uber certainly, but there truly is nothing like the utter awe on the faces of the literal newbies around you. for them the game is further inspired. they don't know what a "twink" is yet, all they know is there's a guy standing there with a staff with a SKULL on it! and the items certainly allowed for a faster leveling process through levels of the game which are NOT fun if you've done them before. there is NOTHING cool about getting killed by a fire beetle, okay? running away from a bat is LAME, alright?

anyway, there's my take on twinking. what the hell, right?

Just to end the confusion, a right-click on this bp ports you into LESSER Faydark right near the GFay zoneline.

It probably won't save you from an attack because the cast time is quite slow, but it can get you out of zones with difficult-to-reach exits.

Self-porting for a ranger is a dream come true even if it is to Lfay. It is only a few steps away from most ranger's home, not to mention a wiz portal and a bank.

Something not specifically noted is that the wizard spire in GFay is Nexus capable. A ranger equipped with this BP therefore has resonably low travel time to GFay, Nexus, NK, Toxx and Great Divide. Grats to the treehuggers :)

well you dont have to be a Super uber guild, i.e. one that does ST or VP or whatever but if you wanna kill a lvl 65 dragon like Trak you need a lot of 55+ people and many 50s period. My guild just took down trak last night and we had like 40 people on the raid. Oh yeah, its worth upwards of 100k, and that is you are lucky enough to find someone who would sell this to you heh.

# Oct 01 2001 at 4:37 PM Rating: Decent
I am nearing 45 now, and I think my Ivy is getting a bit rusty from all those days in the snow and rain. This obviously would make an amazing upgrade to my armor, but alas i dont' have near enough for what people would want for this. So here are my questions
1. What is the drop rate of Tolan's BP?
2. What is a good level to start getting a group together to take Trakanon?
3. What would be a good armor upgrade in the meantime.

1. If you take a look at the drops for Trak, you can imagine that the Tolan BP isn't all that common. Add to that the fact that Trak isn't a mob that's killed 3 times a day, and you get a very, very rare BP. Not to mention that this BP would probably stay in whatever guild happened to get the drop instead of getting sold.
2. Trak is level 65, so it depends on what kind of guild support you have. 55+ would be a good time to think about it.
3. Although the Ivy Etched Tunic is probably the most useful of all the IE pieces, there are several upgrades you can look for. Treeweave immediately comes to mind. 25 AC 10 STR is pretty good for around 2kpp, and a lot of Rangers choose to go with it. For something with better stats but less AC, the Seb Scale Coat is good. 22 AC 6 STR 6 CHA 6 WIS 2 SvD/C/M. Much more expensive at around 4-5kpp. If you've got more cash to burn, consider the Spined Seahorse Hide BP (29 AC 15 DEX 50 HP) or the Barbed Ringmail BP (30 AC 9 STR 50 HP).

Trakanon would simply blink one eye halfway at you, and the skinwould fall away from your bones as you get hit for 999,999,999,999,999,999,999 points of damage. What would inspire you to ask if a 30 something character could get an item from a 60+ mob? Crack? An obsession with death? A yearning to see the afterlife before anyone else?

HELL NO YOU CAN'T GET IT AT YOUR LEVEL!!!!!!!

Unless you got tons of money sittin in the bank, and several years to sit in EC hopin to see "/auc WTS Tolan's BP, send tells." =P

The Port

Ok, first off, if you wanna know what type of port it is, you have to look at the name. Wizard ports are gates, portals, and translocates. Druids ports are rings and circles. If the pic is correct, than its a druid port to gfay/lfay, not sure which. both lfay and gfay have abandoned druid rings, so it could be either one. to the person that said you could get this BP at lvl 15, i serioucly hope you were joking, cuz this is a trak BP, so u wont get it unless ur twinked/lvl 50+ and have a guild that can kill trak. and if you dont like this Bp, then why post at all? it just wastes your time and the time of other people reading your post. hapy hunting =D
