Guide to doing this as fast and easy as possible

This works quickly for me every single time I do it:

1) Kill Grimling Chieftan, kill Grimling Defenders, then ***wait for owlbears to show up***

2) Kill ONE of the owlbears standing just outside the hut, then run to the owlbear caves in the west and kill ONE of the owlbears just outside the cave.

3) Run to wolf caves and wait for defenders to spawn, kill them.

4) Run to camp where named spawns and kill her, hopefully you get eye.

I know this is similar to other posts here, the difference being step 2. From my experience it is NOT a random event, nor does killing Growlik or packleader have anything to do with it.

**I don't know why killing the 2 owlbears causes them to attack every time but it does. Everytime I did this the owlbears attack on the first shot**

Hope this helps everyone and Good Luck!

Your method "works" but you only need to kill the chieftain then wait on attackers or defenders. There is no need for any random killing. They spawn ever 9 minutes.

Kill the attackers, which is tough for lower level toons because their regen was faster than my 44 druid could kill them. If defenders spawn, kill them before the owlbears attack that area/cave. You do this two or three times until the entire zone is Owlbears. It is that simple.

I can confirm this method works. Tried it today and got really lucky and got the eye the first time around. It took all of about 20 minutes.

Oh, and one more thing. I tried doing nothing after Grimlings were taken over as some suggested, but the stupid wolves attacked the owlbears more often than not when I did it this way. Kill the 2 owlbears and they'll attack.

crikey i thought i was losin' me mind over this one!

thank you! i'd follow the counter-clockwise advice and wonder what the hell i was doing wrong.

will give this a go tonite--i'm sure some folks are pretty irate about my leaving the Moor in a perpetual state of war between the remaining two factions.

Another 10 Owlbear wins and the drop rate for the eye has gotten rare again, but it still drops. Correction to my earlier post, you do NOT have to kill the named wolf at the Wolf camp, but he does drop nice loot!

Skrietat`Chakku, the mother owlbear

And one more thing the RANDOM event, I have gone 5 times without the final defenders showing and the fiends making me thinkl it was all broken! Just be patient it will pop! I have also done it 3 or 4 times in a row with it working perfect, that was a nice day! All in all I got 7 Eyes for all my Alts and Guildie friends!
after about 30 times of successfully running this war

Skrietat`Chakku, the mother owlbear is your target! So how do you get her to spawn! EASY

After many times of my 65 Druid soloing this war I have a fullproof working plan of this war.

1st never go to the owlbears camp, it is not neccasary.

Go to the Grimling camp and kill the Chieftain, wait a few seconds and the defenders spawn, kill all of them! Usually 5.

In a few minutes the owlbears take that camp everytime!

Now you run to the Wolves. Invis up and go in to kill either Growlik or the pack leader, I have found that the next step is RANDOM.

No matter what you killed inside the cave there is a random event that happens next! RANDOM people! Understand the word!

OK around 20 minutes later one of two messages will happen followed by an event.

What I do is get on the rock in front of the wolf cave, if the event of owlbears are in trouble happens then a few FIENDS appear and go to kill the owlbears, you must kill all of them, easy.
Then wait 20 minutes for another random event. Which hopefully is three Wolf DEFENDERS will appear to defend from teh owlbears, kill them and then run your butt to the fort for the Mother Skrietat`Chakku, to spawn, kill her and all is reset! Loot and hope ya get the eye. If not run to Grimlings and repeat. I have done this war over 30 times and found that if ya stop thinking and wait for the random events to happen you win!

Good luck!

Listen to this person. They are makin' sense. Only thing I would say is there's no need to kill Ghowlik. Just perch outside the camp and wait for something to happen. On the odd occasion the defenders spawn straight away makin for a very quick war.
Took 8 times but I got it..
# Aug 11 2004 at 4:57 PM Rating: Default
Took a while but I was able to get it.
Only word of advice is to stick with it and also when pulling Skriat`Chakku from the out side of the fort go around back and walk the fence about where she should be. She will agro you and you can pull her single with out any of her offspring. This works great for all the special named mobs in the war.

GL all and its well worth it. One of the easyest FT items to get and soloable.

6 times
# Jul 02 2004 at 6:24 AM Rating: Decent
5 times I let the moor do its own thing (was soloing with my 37 ranger in zone) and was interested to note that owlbears often take over a 2nd camp on their own. The same first five times I only interfered to help the owlbears win the battle for the third camp (after logging 60 chanter in). Killing named owlbear was easy but only got cap and polished beak. So then I decided to "run the war" and had a terrible time getting the wolves to cooperate. After an embarrassingly long time the owlbears finally owned the moor and I got the grimling bane damage club and the eye.

After killing named owlbear zone resets, owlbears take south camp on their own 15 minutes (or less) later, I help kill wolf defenders (had not done anything else) killed named owlbear again. Zone resets again and I go afk. A guildie drops by and wolves have all camps but south. We help wolves win war and my ranger gets to loot bane grimling sword.

Summary of long post: seems easiest to go with the flow of the zone to get a full reset. Then kill the Grimling chieftain as others say. Then park at the wolf cave and kill the attacking fiends (several waves if need be) and defenders (they can be a pain) when they spawn.
If you want the Owlbears to win...
# May 25 2004 at 2:24 AM Rating: Decent
I went here to start the war with the objective to have the owlbears win. I wanted to loot the owlbear eye for my cleric. This is what I did to make the owlbears win everytime. It is different than what you might read below in other posts, but it worked for me SIX straight times!

First off, I DID NOT kill the named owlbear in the cave. I went directly to the grimling chieftan. As someone else posted here, it DOES go counter-clockwise in the attacking order. After I killed the chieftan, the owlbears came and attacked the grimlings. Quickly defeat the chieftan defenders that spawn outside the chieftan's hut. When the owlbears get there, they will take over the hut. Thats two-of-three camps taken by owlbears.

Now here is where I was messing up. I would then go to the wolves cave and kill Ghowlik. The wolves would then go and try to attack the north owlbear caves. I would kill the attackers, then kill Ghowlik again when he spawned. Again, the wolves would go attack the northern owlbear caves. This process went on three times before I stopped and tried to figure out what I was doing wrong. When Ghowlik spawned after the third time, I decided NOT to kill him to see what happened. BINGO!! The next zone message was the owlbears were ready to attack the wolves. Proceed to kill the wolf defenders to let the owlbears take the east cave. Owlbears then had all three camps and Skriat`Chakku would spawn in the fort. No owlbear eye that time.

I left the zone and came back later that night. After having the owlbears take the south camp, I ran to the east cave and waited for the owlbears to attack. Wouldnt you know it, they came to attack the wolves in the east. I DID NOT have to kill Ghowlik. Owlbears took control again of zone and I killed Skria`Chakku. Still no eye. I did this process 4 more times before I was able to loot the eye.

In short, you DO NOT have to kill the named owlbear in the north cave to start the war. Also, you DO NOT have to kill Ghowlik to make the wolves weaker. This just causes them to attack the northern caves. Just kill grimling chieftan to get the owlbears to attack the south. Once they win, go to the east and wait for them to attack the wolves. Kill the wolf defenders. Once owlbears take the east, run to the fort and hope the eye drops.

P.S. Run to the fort quickly before the zonewide message says the owlbears take over. Its funny as hell to watch the Vah Shir from the outpost ACTUALLY run back into Shar Vahl.

I have been having mixed success getting the owlbears to take over the wolf cave. I always start out by killing the grimling chieftain to get the owlbears owning the south. This is 100% effective. However, when owlbears own the north and south, I get the zone message that they are weakened by spreading their forces and the wolves attack. I keep having to kill the wolf fiends to keep them from taking over the north owlbear cave. I have seen the owlbears attack after 1) killing Ghowlik, 2) killing Ghowlik's packleader placeholder and 3) killing all the wolves in the eastern zone caves between Ghowlik spawns. This last method seems to be working best. I looted 4 eyes last week and have only one more alt to twink but I wish I knew 100% how to get the owlbears to own the wolves. Sometimes it takes 5 or 6 cycles spawning fiends before the owlbears

Does the skill modification of +3% meditation stack? I have the grimling Skullcap with +3% on it as well and I wondered if that makes it +6% meditation skill or just 3%

I'm going after this piece regardless. . .just wanted to know if i could replace that cap :-)

I cannot get the owlbear to attack the third camp. I kill the grimling chieftan and they take over the south, then keep killing wolves, but it keeps saying the lines are stretched too thin and the owlbears lose 1 of the 2 camps they have, even though I keep killing all the wolves. then the camps just keep going back and forth between the wolves and owlbears, the owlbears never attack the third camp even though I keep it cleared. any suggestions?
RE: hmmm
# Jan 04 2004 at 1:25 AM Rating: Excellent
Aereon, I think what you need to do is kill the named wolf (Ghowlik) who is in the right hand cave. Killing the named leader weakens the wolves so the other factions are more likely to attack them. Killing the placeholder apparently does not weaken the wolves (Ghowlik's placeholder is "a sonic wolf packleader") so you need to get Ghowlik himself to die. His spawn time is 10-12 minutes so it might take a couple rounds of the war.

Also, when it sas the wolves are attacking, you will actually see them appear outside the wolf caves. (The attackers are called fiends.) There will be 5-6 of them, they walk directly out from the cave to the rocks, then they walk back to the hill slightly left of the cave, then turn around again and head towards the owlbears (really bad pathing). This gives you plenty of time to kill them - they are very weak, much weaker than the other wolves. As long as you kill all the sonic wolf fiends, the owlbears will not lose their cave.

Once or twice I've been doing the war and just had the wolves attacking over and over and over ... I lost patience and decided just to go on a rampage, killed the leader in the owlbear caves, then the leader at the grimling camp, then back to the wolves and killed that leader too. This seemed to upset the cycle and the owlbears attacked the wolves next ... whether it was really stuck, or just coincidence, I don't know, but it made me feel better anyway. :)

If you really can't stand sonic wolves, you could always try getting someone to attack the wolves first and start the war off that way.

By the way, if you are high enough level that they're mostly green to you, Ghowlik can be pulled straight through the side of the hill without aggroing the others. Target him (use eye of Zomm, or go invis, or whatever) and then stand above him and cast through the hillside, he will come popping out after a moment and you can kill him all on his own. Warning - not sure this would work if the wolves inside were not green to you. However, it certainly works well at 53.

Don't forget that the corker can go in primary and secondary as well, if you are doing charms, and not meleeing, use both.
Here's the deal.

Quick easy guide. Kill the grimling chiefton who is along the south wall more to the east, kill the 5 grimling defenders that spawn soon after right in front of his corpse.

Run to wolf cave on the east wall and the wolves will start spawning about 20 minutes later in front of the cave, you'll see the message about owlbears taking over south grimling camp inbetween but don't worry about it.

Once 20 minutes is up, kill any sonic wolf fiends or the sonic wolf defenders. If you killed the line of 5 (kill ALL 5) sonic wolf fiends then just sit there and wait for 20 more minutes and another spawn will come. If you killed all the defenders evac or run to the fort of guards near the Shar Vhal zone in.

After the owlbears take over the wolf cave and you get the message in about 1 or 2 ticks you will see the owlbears spawn in the fort with skriat`chakku in the back. Simply kill it, loot the eye, or if the eye isn't there go back to grimling camp, rinse and repeat.

A good tactic to speed this crap up is bind yourself or have someone at the grimling chiefton to kill him right after you kill skriat`chakku. All the camps will respawn to normal about 6 seconds after you kill the named and the war can restart immediately. Good luck...

Luck so far
# Nov 04 2003 at 5:53 PM Rating: Excellent

Went to Hollowshade today to try to pick this up myself, 57 Bard. Was able to solo it all cleanly, but I wanted to clear a few things up for people that are wanting to do this.

Basically, there are 3 different groups, the Wolves, Bears, and Grimlings. They each have their own camps, (Grimlings south, Wolves East, Bears NW). The goal here is to help 1 team take over all the other teams camps. So, for instance, if you wanted the Owlbears to win (which you do to try to get this), you are going to kill Grimlings/Wolves.

Anyways, once you kill the required mob on one team, another team will start attacking it. A couple "attack" mobs will spawn at their home camp and wander over to the team they are attacking. A couple defender mobs will spawn at the target camp to "defend". They are perma-rooted and summon. Anyway, basically you just take out all the defender mobs before the attackers get there. Then, when the attackers arrive, they instantly take over the camp.

If you want a team to win, like the Owlbears, but they are attacked by say, the wolves, you need to kill the wolf ATTACKERS so they never get to the Owlbear camp.

Anyway, so what I did was kill the Chieftain. Then Owlbears attacked Grimlings, causing a couple Grimling defenders to spawn at the Chieftan. I killed them, and then when Owlbears got their they took over. Next I moved to wolves, but had to wait a couple times while wolves attacked Owlbears (I killed all the wolf attackers). Finally, the Owlbears attacked the wolves too, and so I killed the wolf defenders, and the owlbears took over. That equaled all 3 camps belonging to owlbear, and the mother spawned at Shar Vahl. She was VERY easy for me, as I resisted all their screeches with 181mr, and apparently she does not summon.

I did this 3 times and never saw the item, so I took a break.

As a side note, its possible, if you don't pay attention, for the team-you-are-trying-to-have-win's home camp get taken over. Simply solve this like you would taking over any other camp.

Good luck.

Nice post, but I just wanted to help clarify something. When I killed the Chieftain, 5 Defenders spawned, and though they are rooted, they will summon. Just an FYI.

P.S. The healers are annoying if you aren't doing a lot of DPS, try to kill them first :)

had to do laundry, wolves ended up taking owls home cave, owls have east and south... yet for the life of me i can't get owls to attack. there's no named wolves in north cave to trigger attack, and even though i ae-clear it, the wolves are the next ones to attack =(

I'm on my 14th kill and still no eye. What a pain this is. If I weren't a bard who needs all the FT I can get, I would have quit this long ago to work on AA. I could have had Mana Regen 3 by now with all the time I've spent here. I hate these stupid time sucking camps. This camp along with many others helps confirm why I'll never play SWG. Talk about wasted time.

EDIT: I tried getting this a second time for a friend.... we did it 7 times, still no luck... strnage... Anyways we stoped because of a bug in the area, SO ANOYING!

Lol I'm a 37 war and tried to do this with my 36 druid friend. Anyways we had the help of a 61 necro and did the war about 10 times to no avail. Dropped some turbans, some daggers, a bone club, but no eye. The Necro kept doin the quest the next day after we had both left (myself and the druid) and did the war about 5 more times and no eye. This is what causes what I like to call "burnout" (I'm impatient =D). Oh well. I was probably just highly unlucky. Will do this again later.
