Tried Everything?

have you tried, dying, leaving one on your body, then doing hand ins for second, then relooting your body with the different earrings?

No you can not get both. I personally tried all of the following.
1. Have Signet of the Arcane and second to last earring, attempt to turn it in with Hope stone and he spits them back.
2. Turn in Arcane for Might, attempt to turn in second to last with hope stone and he spits them back.
3. Leave Might on corpse, attempt to turn in second to last with hope stone and he spits them back.
4. Leave might on that same corpse for a week allowing it to go to Shadowrest, attempt to turn in second to last with hope stone and you guessed it! he spits them back.
Btw step 4 I even tried before and after "calling" the corpse in Shadowrest.

Clearly they coded it so you can not get both Arcane and Might at the same time.

You can have both at the same time. I play on FV and have had both on a lvl 1 beastlord. They are really nice for twinks since there is no rec/req level.

You probably bought them on the FV server, hes talkin about the inablitiy to do the actual turn in for the item.

And once again Sony has found a way to exclude those of us NOT in UBAH raiding guilds. We spend all our time doing all these tradeskills, we farm for items same as everyone else, however, if you aren't in a guild that can get you EP flagged, you pretty much get screwed out of the better earring.

Even if you do pick-up raids to get your EP flag, how in the world are you going to FARM for the items needed to get this earring?!?!

Gee, wonder why peeps keep thinking that Everquest is TOP HEAVY?!?!?!

About a year ago I decided to join a guild full of people I liked, rather than a guild of frequent raids, uber gear, and the arrogant kids that seem to come with them. It does make flagging harder, but certainly not impossible. Ask around to try to find a raiding channel and get yourself in it. They tend to be more disorganized that guild raids, and certainly less disciplined, but it makes PoProgression possible. I'm probably a couple of weeks fromt he elementals now and still get to keep my guild of friends :)
both earrings!!!
# Aug 13 2004 at 12:59 PM Rating: Decent
So you get the Arcane earring.  What would happen if you traded in the Arcane for the Might earring? Then you do hand in the 7th earring and get the Arcane earring therefore having both. Has anyone done this?

#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 08 2004 at 1:55 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Tradeskills don't take a whole bunch except for tailoring and 220 can make a success on the robe for tailoring the first time. Yes. It is still worth doing if you enjoy tradeskills. It is still one of the best ear items in the game. If you are going to do tradeskills anyway, there is no reason NOT to do this. It's like wearing all 7 trophies on your ears as well, if you think about it :O) No one will question your tradeskill ability with those things hanging from your ears (and yes, I did say "those"...You can complete only one to the signet of the arcane/signet of might level, but you can take the other one up to the step before, which is +17 on all stats,+12 on all saves, 115 mana and hp's and regen+5..not bad for your second best earring, eh?). Get to work! It's a "long row to hoe". Best of luck to you! :O)

"Yes. It is still worth doing if you enjoy tradeskills."

I agree with this. But that's a big "if". IF your tradeskills are all in the 200ish range already, then yeah doing this quest is well worth the time it takes.

But if you're thinking about getting all those tradeskills up just for this earring . . forget it. (Of course, there will probably be tradeskill quests in GoD and/or OoW also . . so that work won't go to waste.)
things that make you go ?
# Feb 20 2004 at 8:45 PM Rating: Default
Hmm so casters get FT III and mana preservation..
and melee get 30 atk and a dodge mod??

This seem WAY out of balance to anyone else? Just curious.
RE: things that make you go ?
# Apr 21 2004 at 5:54 AM Rating: Good
Melee can also benefit from up to 50 Vengeance and 45 Regen, casters can only have up to 15 Flowing Thought. LDoNs offer Vengeance IV and Regen V augs for the same cost as FT2 augs. Casters have a mana cap, melee do not have a hitpoint cap. Let's not talk about balance.

However, as the caster earring has 130hp AND 150mana, the melee earring should offer more than just 15 extra hps as compensation. Statwise, that is the only difference.

As for the effects on each, the melee get +3 hp regen, the casters get +3 mana regen. The melee get +30 attack and +8% dodge, casters get 15% mana preservation on most, but not all, spells.

So, aside from the hp issue (and the fact that the icon for the melee earring is a cockroach), I think they are fairly balanced.

She said the quest took her four months to complete, drawing alot of her time away from RL stuff. Yikes.

But still... one badass ring.

Yes, you must have an UNmodified skill of atleast 220 in each tradeskill.

Fletching
Jewelcraft
Smithing
Tailoring
Pottery
Baking
Brewing

Unmodifed meaning you can't use tradeskill modifying items, i.e. Geerlok Gemsetter +5% to JC, to trick him into thinking you have 220.
smithing to 92
# Nov 24 2003 at 4:01 PM Rating: Default
I got my smithing up from 4 - 92 in one night and didn't loose a pp on it! Just followed simple posts and sold the items back that I made. If you are going on to fletching make arrowheads when ever you can until they become trivial. I had a KEI on the whole time. Skill ups were effortless. I stayed in POK the whole time- got some great MGB and then went farming. Not a bad night after two succesful LDON's.

Anyway, 220 is a bit obscene to have in all trade skills. But wow - those earings are insane...

8 GM Tradeskills.. could be a problem
# Oct 05 2003 at 8:03 PM Rating: Decent
Will there ever be a GM tinkerer (gnome) with Marked Runed Signet?

I have an enchanter Gnome. I certainly plan to get to 250 tinkering at some point in the future with this toon. Once this character passes 200 tinkering will it be impossible to complete the entire sequence of the Aid Grimel quests? It appears, to even talk to Aid Grimel for any given quest, I will have to have a 220 skill of the appropriate trade (in addition to a specific flag).

In other words...
Aid Grimel #1 --> required 220 Blacksmithing
Aid Grimel #2 --> required 220 Brewing
Aid Grimel #3 --> required 220 Jewelcraft
Aid Grimel #4 --> required 220 Pottery
Aid Grimel #5 --> required 220 Tailoring
Aid Grimel #6 --> required 220 Fletching
Aid Grimel #7 --> required 220 Baking

7 GM trade skills takes up the allotted PoP AA expansion GM abilities.

Is this the answer to my question, or just a lack of information on Allakhazam? -->
"Before you hail him, you must have talked to Maelin to go after Rallos Zek. You also need an unmodified skill between 200 and 250 in pottery."

If someone has done Aid Grimel #4 with only a 200 skill PLEASE say so.

Tinkering, poisonmaking and research are all seperate skills from the 7 " True Tradeskills".

They do not affect your ability to get one of the basic tradeskills to 250. They also can be trained up to their max, something you cannot do with the "true tradeskills".
RE: 8 GM Tradeskills.. could be a problem
# Oct 26 2003 at 12:37 AM Rating: Excellent
Tinkering is classified as a "Racial Skill" not as a "Tradeskill".
Having a GM skill level in Tinkering will NOT count towards the limit on GM level Tradeskills you can have.
RE: 8 GM Tradeskills.. could be a problem
# Oct 07 2003 at 9:35 PM Rating: Excellent
As far as I know, Tinkering is not a "global" tradeskill, and thus the rules of taking only one skill above 200 (without NTCM) do not apply. You should be able to take one (+level of NTCM) skill above 200 regardless of your level in Tinkering.

No, you can't MQ this turn in. It's been specifically tested, and if you turn in the Signet without the Hopestone, or vice versa, the Councilman will object and return the item.

The old earring and the Hopestone must be turned in at the same time, by the same person, to get this item.

Shadow Scream armor is the Suck

I think it really depends on your class for one, as a Warrior I have always hated and had hell of alot of trouble farming that crap, I finally gave up and just make Cultural, but I really dont lose money doing it, I will spend like 5k smithing, but Each Smithing Run I make sure I try a Few of the Blue Diamond Items cause any success on them brings in the profit, so from a lucky run I can normally come out with a couple skill ups and about 20K in profits.

Well Smithing will cost you 35kpp or about 200 hours of camping heh you take your pick. I did a little of both prolly 100 hours of camping the shadowscream stuff and mostly bought stuff for fineplate maybe spent 10kpp. This will be mine oh yes it will be mine.

Ok I have a little experience here...so I will share my knowledge for those who are interested...first Jewelcraft was BY FAR the easiest and least expensive to raise skill...let me explain...Yes it cost money to 20 bars of platinum at a time for me 20 bars ran 2099p, but pre 200 skill I was using GOLD at 10p per bar, minimal expense even when you consider losses in failures, above 200 you are pretty much stuck with platinum to get skill improves or diamond/gold combines...the good news is above 200 failure is VERY RARE (if you as stated in other post stick fairly close to your trivial) now I had an average of 40-60 combines PER improve which seems a bit ridiculous but it was what it was...but also had VERY FEW failures, and with Platinum combines success's are roughly 5p profit, so 20 successes will make enough to cover 1 fail...point being my total cost to raise JC from 21 - 250 was around 3K, but you will need 15K to go through the process, meaning start with 15K at skill 21 at 250 you should have from 10K - 12K remaining hence actual cost to raise skill is 3-5K after you are done...smithing I am at 207 and it has cost me 35K to get there and from my experience it will cost me in neighborhood of 30-40K to raise that next 43 points, particularly on innoruuk where crafted armor does not get the profit it once did...but give me another year and and I will have 250 in Jewelry (250 now) 250 in Smithing (207 now) 250 in tailoring (188 now) then I will need more AA for the other skills...But I can confirm Smithing so far I rate hardest to reach 250 then tailoring...also tailoring to 188 is easy and inexpensive if you farm your own materials Acrylia Studded mask are your buddy...I can not speak except to repeat rumor that tailoring 200-250 is incredibly hard, but Smithing when you have to have tempers as well as ores is hardest or has been for me...
#Thirdday, Posted: Jun 02 2003 at 2:18 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) It doesn't need to cost that much to take JC to 250. There are many charts to be found showing the defaults of each stone. Do them in the order presented, with the metal shown, and forget the imbuing. You can be done in 2 or 3 days if you leave the 'chanters alone. When you get to 250, THEN worry about making money with your new maxed out tradeskill. The best part of all is that you don't have to forage ANYTHING. You never have to even MOVE! If you have 5k, high wisdom (this is very important folks..wisdom doesn't keep you from poofing, but it makes the skill ups go faster..so max it if you can), a geerlok (this helps lessen poofage if you stick very close to the trivials) and a little bit of patience...Then you too can be a Grand Master Jewelcrafter with an unmodified skill of 250. Good luck!
RE: GM'ing for 15K

GM for JC is easy,stay close to trivials like someone else already said,and enchant your metals. by enchanting the metals ya actually can sell the product back to a merchant for more than the material costs. by doing this,the small profits greatly helps out,thus only lost like 3k in the whole GM jewelar skill up process.

Not sure how many other trade skill junkies there are out there but just a few thought. My main is a chanter so of course I am a GM Jeweler. Next trade I decided to mast is Tailoring. Goning to cost you upward of about 30K depending on your JC and pottery skill. This is for those of you who have already trivalized Wu's armor.

First start a new char. woodelf druid or high elf cleric and have a friend PL to lvl 29

Second gear your new imbueing machine plus wis and mana gear ( make sure you get a mana previation 2 item, BA medalion is an easy camp)

Third spend countless hours in EK slaughting spiders ( or if you have the pp buy out every vender in bazaar selling spider silks)

Forth start making solstice robes

sure it's a long boring process but compared to the farming of rockhopper hides and acrylia ore this is nothing

If you don't want to lose cash skilling up sell your stuff to players for profit and take your time. People spend large amounts of cash because they are impatient, not because it is the only way.

I hate to point out the obvious but you did offer a RL cheque :)

Yes if you were willing to spend several years to skill up, you might be able to do it for 15kp.

The from a practical POV, it doesn't work. First of all, certain items are unsellable. I've never had anyone looking for Pearl, Topas, Peridot or Emerald items.

To make matters worse, the price of jewelry is ridiculously low on 99% of the items. 350 for a Velium Jasper ring? It costs close to 270.

So yes, if you can wait till you sell every item you make, then in a few years you'll be at 250. You're better off just making the stuff selling what you can to players and sell the rest to the vendor...and make sure you enchant your metals.

For velium stuff, if a player doesn't buy it, you're hosed....vendors pay poorly for velium items....well under the cost of making it.

To become a GM smith with less than 15k.

There are plenty of guides out there that can tell you how to get to 100 skill easy. I did it with 150pp. Next go to ornate armor, cheap way, all storebought, don't go to platinum, it is too expensive. Next, Fine Plate. You need to set aside 3k just to begin. The folded sheets of metal will cost 600pp or so per stack. Go to bazaar and buy plenty of leather paddings. Long, boring skilling all the way up to 188 skill. Now, if you already havn't done this, get your Luclin smithing quest done. Camp owlbears, dire wolfes in TM, and shades in TS for the components for shadowscream armor. You will need metal bits as well. Everything you need to know is on this site for this armor. All you are doing is camping for the components, buying the supplies for the metal bits, molds and water. This will take a long time and you will be ready to kill your comp in TM because the substances are somewhat rare there, but that is the way to get your smithing done with 10 to 15k max.

I'm a GM Tailor on 7th Hammer and I'm here to tell you that realistically, becoming a GM tailor on 50k or less would be EXTREMELY difficult. Heck, I've spent more than 50k on Coldain Velium Tempers alone, and that's making them myself (approx 10pp per) instead of buying them in Thurg (26pp).

That doesn't count the cost of pearls for Viscous Mana doing Wu's, or emeralds, rubies and sapphires for doing Solstice robes.

That said, I suppose one could go straight from tailored quivers (triv 115) to studded acrylia (triv 188) and then to reinforced acrylia (triv 242) before doing velious armors which require a cash outlay. By farming all of your own hides and acrylia, all you'd have to buy would be water and patterns. But, you're talking about a few THOUSAND superb and flawless hopper hides there...not to mention the acrylia. So, while possible, I think it's highly unlikely someone would go this route. (And I'd be scared to meet the person that did, as I'd fear for their sanity afterwords. LOL)

Ya you would go crazy camping those damn hoppers for 188+ skill but you can get around it by camping them for exp from 45-55 the superb can be used for under 188 skill and by the time they are green you will have plenty of flawless (not enough of course :/ ), least you wont go broke. An alternate and just as anoying way to go is othmir in CS, slaughter a few 10k of them (im amiable to ulthork now HAHAHA) and make othmir fur caps, very crappy skill raises (80 fur for maybe 1 skillpoint @ 270int) but you make money from the ML. Studed arctic wyvern I got 3 skill raises off 8 combines but lost what, 2k on those 8 combines?

Really tho... who are you kidding? I've got a char at 217 tailoring and I've only invested about 3k in parts. I camped spiders, all types of furred beasts and then spiders in cc (135 trivial) then I made wu's for all of 5 points. At that point said forget that... and made AW gear for then next 10 points (most of my invested money went here) at 145 I got luclin and started making acrylia I've been through no more then 200 supurb hopper hides, and farmed the acrylia myself... it actually payed well enough (selling studded cloaks) to get myself a horse, a spirit stone and enough free cash to take jewelcraft to 189.

I'm still farming acrylia and killing hoppers every chance I get...
Only been through about oh 5 or 6 stacks of flawless hopper hides... just made legs to start with.

15k no way. you can do it on 5

Well, not really sure if it can be mastered for 15k, but recently I got my JC skill from 0 to 192 for less then 3k. Haven't even started using platinum yet, but I will try to find a link to this great list I found for the cheapest way to lvl up in JC and post it here. 15k doesn't seem that unreasonable to me at the moment, but will keep you updated.

The Planes of Power expansion provides an Alternate Advancement ability called "New Tanaan Crafting Mastery" which allows you to take additional tradeskills over the soft cap of 200.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 01 2003 at 10:42 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You don't need Planes of Power to be able to do that, they put that in shortly before PoP went live and anyone can do it...providing you have luclin or better and can get the aa window to even pop up...but I mean seriousley if you don't have luclin yet why don't you go play g.i.joe on NES.
