This quest still works but man am I disappointed with it. I was expecting the awesome graphic in the pics. Now it just looks like normal ringmail armor.
Still a viable option
# May 02 2004 at 3:31 PM Rating: Good
Even though this item is lousy by today's standards, I still consider it a good item. Same AC as Ry'Gorr, and gives +30hp. 10 str from the rygorr mail is decent, but 30hps is more useful imo than 10 str, unless you have encumberance issues. I twinked at lvl 1 with the ivy, and pretty much all of my slots had hp bonuses on them, which resulted in 613hp(or so) at 1! I am looking for upgrades now (at 24) but items like this still help (now I have 1100hp unbuffed) Anyway, this is not worth the questing unless you have high level friends to help you out, but this is now a good twink item.
Works for me

Got this at a vendor in West Freeport. Excellent fit for my lvl 12 Ranger. Only cost me about 50 pp.

I am currently a 24 ranger with full Ry'Gorr I bought in bazaar. Should I keep this or try for the Ivy Etched?

Seriously, it's not. I was gonna do this quest when I saw the rewards. Pretty freaking lousy if you ask me. Considering you have to kill some MOBs that are around level 40. This tunic and the other armor would be better suited for somebody who's level 20 or 15. Sheesh.

Ivy etched armor is part of the Original EQ game. It predates even the Kunark Expansion.

Sure, compared to the newer Velious, Luclin and PoP armors, this isn't that impressive. However, back in the day of original EQ, this was awesome gear, and a lvl 40 in full ivy etched was considered "uber" equipped by most.

Like all other old world armors (crafted, ro, etc) this has lately become twink gear, but it was once top line gear. Its just past its prime.

Past its prime....

You mean to say SOE published so many expansions in the need to get our money, and in doing so pumped up the gear that everyone has come to expect having to the point where this peice of equipment is now considered crap.

Right?

Im a lvl 25 Ranger who paid 300pp for this armor to a friend who already had everything but the rubies. I just wanted to know if it was worth it or if I should have saved for Ry'Gorr(500pp on my server (Kane Bayle)). Also, what lvl should I upgrade from it (Ivy Etched)?...

OK heres my story... Got a Port to Butcher Block then walked to l fay... tracked down thistle and was lucky that he wasnt moving but standing still... as a 35 ranger i killed him very easily. I got the rune of Ivy Brownie Parts and that mistletoe powder.
Next i head to Steamfont and let me tell you meldrath is one hard @$$ mother. Thankfully i found the best person to help me. 57 druid. Thanx much. anyways killed meldrath got5 the skull and now to buy the rubies... but DAMN you would think that the rubies might not be so much. Hell i could just buy the tunic for the money i be spending gettign rubies. but Hey questing is fun so. ohwell. So good luck all.

Was working on druid epic piece in Lesser Fay. When we killed the corrupted brownie, I looted and ran back to find the tainted's corpse. It was not there, but back at loc 0,0 Thistle Underbrush had popped.

I play a 52 druid, and my sow was *just* enough to keep up with this guy. He is VERY fast. Got the rune, a bag of magic powder, and some brownie parts. I'm going to get the skull and rubies, and turn them all in for a guildie to get the tunic.

Rangers, if you want this, then go with a druid for this part of their epic. Thistle pops after the Tainted (corrupted pops from tainted's corpse). At 30, you will not be able to solo this either. The brownie couts were light and dark blue to me at 52, although they aren't very tough.

Get a ranger to tank, a necro to fear, and the druid, of course, to do his or her thing. We did this with a 49 bard, 52 druid, and 52 necro. I nuked / healed, bard used his fear, necro used pet and dots / drains.

Hope this helps y'all 8)

All the level requirements on Allakhazam's site are assuming you have a well rounded group roughly the level posted. However it is possible to do this quest at 20. Point in case...I had my heart set on a full suit of Ivy Etched armor (don't flame me and say that this armor isn't as good as Ry'Gorr or anything like that...I didn't and still don't have the cash for a full suit of Ry'Gorr) so I set out at 20 to get my Ivy armor. Bracers...No problem...Now for the tunic! I got lucky enough to find that a pair of kind ladies were killing Meldrath for faction and they gladly let me loot the skull. Then I take a short stroll over to Lesser Faydark. I find there's a druid hunting Thistle Underbrush for his keen gear he drops. I grab his rune of Ivy and set off to buy my gems. All this at 21. Pretty easy quest if you happen to be lucky enough to find higher levels doing your dirty work and if you ask VERY POLITELY! Safe travels to all!

Hell and heres my coppers worth on this evil little gnome. I went with cleric friend of mine into steamfront so she could rez a friend who had died outside the minoutar caves. So after the rez they were talking i decide to take a lokk inside the cave as id never been very far in with any of my characters. The character i hve here is my 47 vashir warrior not the best equipped but by far not the worst.Any who went thru all of the cave getting no agro due to lvl and them being green untill i get bk in close to a corner then you hve been hit for blah blah blah 2 huge minotaurs on me size them up ok no biggie there going down hard and they do. As i proceed i get tthe you hve been hit by so and so message for ---magic damage I take a quick look dont see anything (btw that first nuke was for over 200 and he was casting thru the wall so i couldnt see him ) so i decide to pull whatever it is outside where i can see him = kick his ***.On my way out i take 200 + more damage and i have j boots on so im not running slow either.(wich he also dispelled once on way out had to recast)i get outside by now im down to 2/3 hp my base non buffed is 2004. I wait a few secs dont see him im faceing the tunnel when bam i get the so and so message = damage turn around there he is how did he get out and behind me without me seeing him =shrug this damage was minimal my ac is good (880 unbuffed)by minimal was 36-46 hp dmg hits.So we are now in my forte of fighting face to face i lock on him and we commence to melee I wield a lammy (very fast weaopn and a cent ls also fast and nice damage and im wearing pre nerf fbs so i commence to wail on him however he still manages to get spells off=shrug its going to happen. The highest nuke i was hit 4 was over 300 damage.By this time im down to about 20 percent hp (The cleric im with is on other side of zone goofing off looking for clock work gnomes to hep her friend with trueshot bow quest and i realize then that im in trouble)and also at this time i hear the cackle of his skeleton familiar behind me as hes takeing his free backshots =sigh this is not good 8)i am now near death but so is meldrath but he gets another nuke off pet gets good lick in from behind dwn i go loading .....please wait.Im not a happy camper at this point. So i commence to asking my cleric friend did she not notice my health bar being close to 0hp (she had arrived and tried to cast heal on me as i started chewing dirt)Meldrath instilled fear in her lol and she gates out when one of her nukes wouldve killed him easy at this time.I figured he had less than 100hp left pet was skelly she wouldve ate his lunch. But to make it shorter since ive been long winded actually just venting as this happd last night. I was unbuffed in our previous fight so i got rez from cleric 35 percent is a bite in behind since i lost 4 blues on this death but better than none.Had her buff me up (of course im going back to try him again would you think otherwise if so your proably not a warrior 8) )Go in starts as repeat the two guard minos hve repopped i take them down fast as b4.Take the next step closer hmm nothing has he despawned (fearing ill not be able to exact my revenge mainly) But sure enough out comes the pet dont see meldrath im assuming he is the room pet aggros on my cleric friend takes chunk out of her quickly i get the aggro smack him dwn fast then meldrath throws his first nuke i get the message you resit the so and so( lol i dont make the same mistakes twice i hve all the resists buffs the cleric had available and had my resist discipline up again i pull him outside to tunnel entrance its not even close this time its over im barely down a bub and that gnomes sorry butt is sprouting daisys. My 1pp worth of advice is this to any interested parys.Rule Num 1 Wich i know but broke not thinking anything close to me could be in there. When snooping Around be prepared for anything i wasnt it cost me.Simple Rule Num 2 again i let this slide it cost me if your with people stay with them or take them with you 2 is allways better than one pc wise that is. Rile Num 3 never assume that at whatever level your at theres nothing in there that can kick your butt.(verant changes things to often to assume this i can recite several example)Lesson learned here is this guy is much easier with your resist as high as you can get them.As far as his level goes he is not underconned was db to me at 47 he meleed for about what he should and casted for about what he shd Necro i belive I hope this helps someone considering takeing him out you will need help also yes i have his skull i will put it on a pike outside my home in shar vahl for all to see.If theres a ranger on the 7th hammer that reads this and it can be mqd let me know id be happy to do it 4 so all this typing doesnt go to waste/ My characters on 7 th hammer are Zish(author of this post)Nunya Arcania Wiz Rahling Pally Kitekik Shammy Geadings monk send me a tell if its possible will gladly give up the skull to help u get the armor Sorry for the long post but i had to Be safe or be very fast 8)

Yes Indeed! HELP!!!!!! I was brand new to the game, (lvl5 WE rng) when I met a Ranger with a last name and Veteran in front of it. I thought to myself boy I bet this guy has been around.

Of course turns out he was over lvl 50. I was having a very nice /tell conversation with him about what I needed to do to get armor. IE what quests. He informed me of the Trueshot armor quests and suggested it would give me both good armor and experience.

As I was saying thankyou for the help and advice the trade window opened and there was a Sword of Skyfire.

Being a complete newbie he had to tell me to hit trade.

Needless to say I was flabbergasted. I asked what I owed him for it and he said "Nothing at all brother, however you might pass on the favor whenever you can. "

That is how I got my first twink item, simply by having a friendly conversation with another player.

I have since passed on that first Twink item and have done everything I can think of to help other players.

This is what this game is all about and anyone that hasn't figured this out must be very SLOWWWWW indeed.

Ya'll be good, be safe and just have fun!!

I agree with Guillamea, I try to make Ever Quest as much roleplaying as I can, I try to be Terein Pathfinder, and its the best oart of the game. So, if you think about it, if I'm a young ranger walkin around Kelethin, and meet a Veteran player, maybe they will be helpful to the cause and help me out...of course theres the players who wont spare a copper to anyone, but thats the way it is. I think the twinkers give a realism to the game, which is needed for it to be fun. Now, I dont find it good to have a lvl 1 Ranger with Ry'Gorr and a Wurmslayer with 50,000pp runnin around, cuz it takes teh fun out of everything, but I think just givin some stuff away to help ppl out really helps the game play. Just my 2 cents...
Any help plz.

There are usually people by the windmills waiting for the minotaur hero, who will be able to kill meldrath. If you can't fnd anyone to buy the rubies for you (a bard or enchanter are best), then the next best thing is to make your own high elf enchanter and put all your points into char and then buy the rubies with him/her. Buy (or borrow, if possible) some charisma enhancing equipment to put on, too.
Easiest Way to Finish...
# May 14 2002 at 7:07 PM Rating: Decent
Hello just some helpful information .. if you have the means to get a 45+ mage or caster to help you with this do it ... this quest is easier at level 45 with 2 people ( we killed Meldrath with a 45 druid ( me ) and a 45 Mage ) .. if you go deeper into the mines than you think is safe, more than likely you will pull Meldrath and his 2 Huge Minotaur guards. Kill him First he is a 45-46 Necromancer, the minotaurs can beat on ya but not too terribly hard. I found that it is much easier if you pull him almost all the way to the entrance to the mines .. that way you are not all crowded up in that tiny nook he calls home. DOTS are good but when yoou have a pet and 2 minos on ya best advice is just nuke 'em to high Norrath.
Also try not to use wolf form. Try to use sow .. if he fears ya .. you lose Wolf Form like it was Yesterday's style .Once he stops twitching take the skull.

Remember always to get an enchanter to buy your gems for you.

It may not always save you a sack full of cash but it will save you money.

Good Luck

I'd say in the order that I upgraded...
I started with the Mithryl BP, upgraded to the Ivy Tunic, then went to the Ry'gorr... but I was after the str on the Ry'gorr so ya might want to stay with Ivy for the 1 extra ac. ALSO Ivy is cheaper to get.

NONE of THESE QUESTS can be soloed and so far I've been able to get ZERO help on two servers Therris Thule and Stormhammer. My Ranger is Level 41 and in her banded (. I've died three times trying to kill Meldrath. I've tried joining guilds --Three different guilds NO HELP!!
I have everything but his skull. Same with all the other IVY Quests--You can get so far solo then zip --can go no further. Giving game another month then quiting if I have no armor---waste of 20 months of playing---That's life --This is a game --fun untill you can go no further.

I dont know whether to cry for you or laugh at you. This is a social game, it takes nothing to go out and make a few friends and have a good time, even for an anti-social person like myself. What do you do, join a guild and start spamming guildchat asking who will come help you camp some new armor?? Why not try helping others do things first and you will find the help will find you. Not very hard to get a group of people together and suggest a new hunting grounds, no one in this game takes freakin initiative to learn things and complain that its not being handed to them....You play on a blue server to, that is maybe even overcrowded, with your attitude on a PvP server you would be lucky to have banded at 41!

Twinking. Think like this. EVERYONE is twinked. I mean that literally. Think about it. Some of the low lvl character quests you might get some crappy weapon that is simply NOT a rusty. I mean if your lvl 3 and have a fine steel, your pretty much twinked. Sure it sounds stupid, but think about it. You have a pair of boots you didnt work for, your twinked.

EVERYONE in the game that has ever gotten a lucky break, looted an abandoned kill or even picked up a decent weapon off the ground is a twink. Its all about HOW twinked you are really. But in theory, EVERYONE is.

Play a char from scratch. Take NOTHING from NO ONE. dont speak or participate in the EQ community OR the economy. Dont sell bone chips for 5pp, sell to a vendor... SURE, you could. But part of twinking is interacting in a lot of ways.

most ppl that twink. simply know nearly every race under at least lvl 15 is pretty much the same. so who cares.

I feel very sorry for the players who loose sight of the fact that: "It is not whether you win or loose, But is how the game is played."--the varity of Everquest allows every appoach--but,yes some one has geared up his level 60+ what ever then dumped it on his 1st level character. Then takes over the group. Killing things that the other players cannot even dream about. What fun is that?-- I sat in Bandiet camp 2 PC-and made Lev 20-21 with out being able to make any contrubtion. I did not enjoy the play and when it happens again I will leave the group and "Ignore" the 'Twinkie'. The issue to me is: Does the twink make it better for all involved or is it a "Me First!, Me last!, Me ALWAYS!!" kind of thing?
RE: everyone twinks
# Aug 19 2002 at 11:08 AM Rating: Decent
I felt the same way about twinking a long while ago. But, as I progressed through the levels and picked up some unneeded loot, I decided to give them to an alt of mine. Am I a twink? It all depends on how you look at it. According to this guy, yes. But according to the definition agreed upon by the majority of the game-players, who beleive twinking it getting something for free you didnt earn or work for. I worked hard to get the loot that I did for my alt, so no...in my opinion, my level 14 paladin is NOT a twink? Besides, what did that guy above me say? Not getting stuff from others? Yeah thats right, I got them from my level 53 enchanter ;-)

I have nothing against twinking. I do believe it *is* a form of cheating. Printing out maps, getting trade recipies, and reading strat guides are all cheating. Unfortunately, this type of cheating is necessary.

Why? Because Verant makes mobs that can chain-cast unresistable spells, that can nuke you throught walls, walk through inpenetrable objects, see through doors and floors, cast while running, land nukes on players 30 levels higher, punch you for 110 and then nuke you for 430dd, can outswim you (even though you are at 200 skill), do not need to breathe, can fall from the highest peak and not take damage, can hit you from beyond your own melee range, have unlimmited arrows, have nearly unlimmited mana, never miss when they hit you, have melee skills they aren't supposed to have (kicking shadowknights, bashing wizzies), can simultaneously wield a two-handed and one-handed weapon at the same time, can backstab you with their bare hands, and can kick your *** even when they are 10 levels below you.

Not to mention that there are very few items in the game that are worth anything at the level that you can get them. By the time I could quest for my ghoulbane, it was already obsolete. By the time I could quest for my wurmie, it was also obsolete. My Ry'gorr armor came off by level 35.

Besides, the REALLY good stuff out there is all no-drop. There is no such thing as a twinked level 50 player (although there are many poorly equiped level 50 players). By then, everything comes down to spell-buffs and specific stats (AC, HP, resists, and mana stats).

So twink away. Everyone does it. You can't reasonably expect to excel in the game without it. Those who don't twink are people who can't twink, so quit yer *********

Just for a second think of everquest as reality - If you were to start out from you home to go adventuring your family and friends would give you whatever supplies and armor ..ect that they could spare. Only very poor families would send their son or daughter off to the world nekked and extremely wealthy families might send a youth out in ancient magical armor past down through the generations. - So it is my opinion that chars starting out with equipment beyond the lootabe scope of their experience adds a greater sense of reality to the game. just my 2CP
RE: everyone twinks
# Jun 07 2002 at 5:50 PM Rating: Decent
I have to agree here. When I started my first character, he played for quite some time with only the items and money that he worked for. At some point, a very friendly higher level person gave him some nice equipment, completely out of the blue. Dont know why, maybe they were just feeling generous. I never begged for anything or asked for help from anyone. But I certainly wont turn down a gift if it is offered.
Now, I have several characters, my highest being a 36 chanter. She has gotted some very nice things passed along from guildmates. I agree with the analogy of a family: If I am going to send my child out into the world, I will do the best I can to give him the best odds of surviving.

My only problem with twinking is with a brand new character who has never played before, getting completely twinked right away. I am glad that I had some time to play on my own without help - I think it helped me learn the game better, and also made me appreciate the gifts more when I did get them.

So disagree if you want, thats fine. But I will certainly keep passing things down from higher characters to lower ones.

Twinkage, Schminkage, I started playing this game a year or so ago.. I was so used to consol game I was level 15 before I had the heart to destroy my starting gear and tunic (thought like in FF there would be some quest to turn them uber)I played a lot died even more. I bought, my leather peice by peice, even started making banded.. I was level 20 totaly untwinked, ungrouped, totally on my own. I am still more proud of that char then any other I have made. That being said, I am still not what some would consider a twink. but I group in zones that drop better loot then I could solo, I sell farmed silks and chips, and I buy my gear. Some may call this twink, I do nto I earned it. I have some kickdowns from guildies. Some call that twinked, I do not It is as twinked as accepting a beer from your buddies fridge. Really even guild kickdowns you earned, ever broke camp to go rez a guildie and return to find your mob in the hands of annother?? If you don't call that paying I dunno what is. I have some stuff I kicked down to myself from alts.. I do not call that twinking either. That being said twinking happens.. if you wanna go solo have fun, you may enjoy it, I kinda did, I like the group way better tho. That being said I see nothing wrong with twinking, as long as the twink is not a (male sexual organ) about it. If you have a problem with a twink is is prolly outta jelousy, but if you are a twink do not be a schlep about it, you make the game a lot less fun.. invite the non twinked gnome cleric into your group... 9 times outta ten they are more fun then your uberego twinked buddy every could dream of being

I agree with xsis on this one. Twinking is not interacting with PCs. That is what the game is about. My highest char is a lvl 24 WE Ranger on Seventh Hammer. He has his Ivy etched Bracer and Tunic. There is no way I could have gotten either of these without help from other players. However, those are probably the most uber items I have. My total in the bank is right about 60pp right now. If I find a weapon or other item I want, and I can haggle them down a bit, I buy it. My weapons are a Velium Battle axe, and something like icetooth claws. I bought the axe a wile ago, but just haggled down the claws to 60 pp. So some kind higher ups have helped me along the way, I thank them, try to do something nice for them, and then remember to do the same when I am a high enough level to do so. I don't twink, but I will except help from more exp players. I just wish I was high enough lvl to twink, lol. Then I could get my ranger some nice items.

If you ever see he on Seventh Hammer, say hi.

Well, he might be right. But even by his definition, my Ogre warrior still isn't twinked... If he can't buy it from a merchant, kill it himself, or beg the drop from the members of his group (I dont group with hi-levels), then Korzuz doesn't own it (and he doesn't sell bone chips :p). Do I *prefer* to play him over my other characters? He can be more challenging :) Of course, Valdon may disagree that I am not a twink, as merchants occasionally have magic weapons or player drops for sale, but without even "mediocre" weapons like the Giant Militia LS or Thulian Blades, I would not be useful to a group since I wouldnt be able to taunt MOBs off of the puller or alt fighters - and for some reason, people expect an Ogre WAR to be a main :))) What I have found is that if I am *never* able to use anything that a MOB drops, then *for me* the game isn't as interesting.

Selling things to players (e.i. bone chips for 5pp) or looting an abandoned corpse is NOT twinking. If you found a $20 bill on the ground doesn't mean you're a robber, does it? Twinking is when someone completely outfits (or atleast seceral peices) a new character. I started my ranger from scratch without being twinked, now I want to play new classes, but I don't want to take forever to get about lvl 20, so I'll twink them. But here's the thing, I don't spend 30k on them, I spend a max of 500pp on them. This way, I can hit 20+ faster without being an ubber lowbie. Twinking might take the realisism out of playing EQ which makes it not as fun, but playing in lvl 20+ zones is. :)

It's up to people if twinking is right or not, but saying that interacting with others is twinking, is stupid. If I wanted to play games with out interacting with people, I'd play solitaire.

I don't mind twinking at all, as long as the twink doesn't hog all spawns alone. Even though I have a twink character that is lvl 11, I always shout for groups and ask if I can join groups. I don't play this game so that I can get to lvl 60 alone with the best armour in the game. I play this game for the social interaction and I think that's what makes this game fun.

#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 27 2001 at 11:16 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I play as two different characters on Povar. I have a lvl 30 Dwarf Warrior, which is my main, and a lvl 9 druid Wood Elf Druid, whom am I playing now. My warrior was uber for his lvl, though i never did beg for anything...maybe a got a few-me-downs from a couple nice strangers, but nothing ever major. Well, I began to buy items for low price and sell them high, making loads of money! When I raised up enough, at about lvl 20 or so I decided to purchase a Wurmslayer and an FBSS, along with a Crystalline Short Sword a little later (couldn't handle that price at lvl 20). Well, when I decided I had enough of being the ol' meat bag, damage soaker, I decided to start playing a spell caster, and picked my druid.

I personally would wear the mith bp over the stats on the ivoy etched/ Main reason for me is the agil factor. With alot of agil let's you dodge attacks better, higher ac lets you take less damage from what i understand but with high agil if you dodge an attack just 1 time for 80dam it's better to me than getting hit for only say 70 my agil is around 160 and at lvl 30 i see char of my lvl with high ac and lower agil than me take for dam. Just my recomendation.

my ranger has been twinked once or twice before, i didn't ask for it, i was just wandering around asking questions about the game and hailing everything that moved, and someone stoped me and started up a trade, before i knew what was going on, he said take it, so i took it and armed myself, and i have twinked a little level 1 wood elf ranger before, they didn't ask but oh well, i don't see the problem with twinking out newbies, unless they ask for it so, twink away, make some poor newbies day, and tell them to pass on the wealth and items they don't want anymore, if you want to e-mail me with a reply, my e-mail is vass654@hotmail.com and if you don't like what i said, shmeh
