The Quest
# Jul 21 2003 at 2:05 PM Rating: Decent
I enjoyed reading everyone's experiences, so I thought I'd post mine. I started the robe quest on a Tuesday with camping Raster in Lguk, I had been hunting in Lguk since lvl 35 and now at 49 decided to start the epic. Raster was a 2 1/2 hour camp, killed everything in sight, was told by a 52 Monk that had his epic to forget the formula because it didn't work for him. Well after a couple of hours killing the PH, and a evil eye (nice new bag btw), Raster pop'd and took him out fairly easy.
Then I moved my camp to SolB to begin the hunt for Targin, it took 2 days off and on trying him as it was a popular camp, after about 3 hours he finally pop'd when I was just getting ready to give up. (Got lucky there)
I then went to the bazaar and bought everything for the sash quest, created a newbie monk and had him turn it all in, bam the red sash quest took 45 min. Then went back to Bazaar and bought what I needed for purple headband quest, only thing that wasn't there was the head of the gnoll shaman, so it was off to SK. The SK camp was easy, about 25 min and the gnoll pop'd and it was off with his head, had my druid (on another box)port me up to the PoK and then down to Qeynos. Made another monk had him turn everything in, but I never recieved credit for turning in the gnoll head, so I petition'd and well no answer after an hour, so I checked the bazaar and one was for sell (lucky again), back to Qeynos to try again, turned the head in and got the purple headband. Whew!!!
All was going to well for me I guess, so something had to go wrong. I spent 4 hours waiting for Brother Quinn to spawn (the one guy who is always up, wasn't), So I FD in a place he usually passes and sent my druid to Rathe to look for Zeph, well that little gnoll dude Hasten was up so he killed him 4 times with no luck of spawning Zeph, by this time I was going to bed.
A couple of days passed with no Zeph, kinda forgot about Quinn, figured it was just a spot of bad luck and focus'd on Zeph for awhile. Well I was running my druid through SK to meet up with my Monk to continue the hunt for Zeph and lord and behold Quinn was up at in Sk, so I logged Monk on with the Druid hailing Quinn to hold him in place, turning in Code and headband got my needle and went back to Rathe.
I then got in position for Zeph in Rathe and expected a long camp, soon as I sat down Zeph fell from the sky right on top of me and took off running,I was so shocked he got a fair clip ahead of me before I could catch up, finally caught him as he pauses everytime he changes direction and I got in front of him, and 'hailed' him like crazy 'til he stopped, with my pattern and needle in hand I went to bazaar to buy the pelt, stopping off and the library to get the "Gather Shadows" spell and the "War Song" spell and did my combines - and now I have my Robe.
So from Tuesday to Sunday, with a total of 18-20 hours I was able to get the robe and all the mini-quests done from start to finish.

ok so starting from first.... i got the Idol first camp took 8-10hrs WOOT then left everything for a month or so and decided i`ll try Targin get there lvl 60monk just left camp ... Kobold Priest spawned woot Mithril BP for me ... then 5 mins later Targin spawned killed with a 55 shammy and me (53monk) easily went down in a few seconds with haste etc up ... cool i got loads of items so i go looking to start the headband Quests (same day) with help of shammys Ranger i find all the quest items up to the one before purple ..think its orange then i need items for purple headband they all Droppable so i go to Bazaar and find all 3 buy them and run to Qeynos using PoK book make a n00b and give him the items in a bag ... (starting from yellow headband) so i go to hand them in and think wait i need red sash so log off and run to FP using PoK get there and think stuff this too many items ... pay n00b to pull guards at gate away using a shuriken (i am an iksar monk and KoS in FP) then run in to monk guild and FD .. Casters adds so this took a while .. Pulled the low lvl monk away add of the 61 monk GM so i run around the wall near the Monk guild ... zone handily near as well and FD off aggro split them apart and loot sash after killing 41/42 monk then run to Qeynos to get back Purple headband .. 12ish at night by now hail him hand in yellow headband and the 2 BB gnoll pelts and 1 BB gnoll skin ... hands back to pelts and keeps the Headband and Skin (Bstard) so i pissed off petition ... wait for 5 mins nguide tells me .. i`ll put ur petition through to a GM .. 1 hr no reply .. i think **** this i run to Qeynos Hills kill konem matse loot yellow headband run to BB go to the room with the 4 Elite gnoll guards, since these are the only ones that drop the skin , no luck on first 4 not thinking i would get one as it took me 3 hrs to find one earlier, run around find an elite Gnoll wandering around killwed him found on on corpse ... wooot give 1 pp to n00b monk and buy 4 gnoll pup scalps from vendor hand them in for white headband and start from yellow (missing out one headband needing the Putrid rib bones) hand in all items successfully .. run to outside gate hand over Purple ehadband .. have all items for RoTLC on me now except shadow silks swatch and Jonthans whistling warsong ... run to SK Bro Qwinn already being up from past week or so since no-one kills him anymore .. run around a bit and find him hand in items woot needle of the void, run to Lake rathe and then to RM and shout any tracker seen Bro Z ( 2AM by now) not thinking i would see him i run through to the Crossroads (first one fter the zone in from feerrot) ... all of a sudden WOOT Bro Z on track .. hes running towards me very fast was what tracker said ran to where he was meant to be and waited a while .. then see him zooming along ... hes faster than Jboots but comes from the left Crossroad (hwen u looking as if u just come from ferrott zoneline) so i`m runnign after him typing what idol who is zan fi who is bro qwinn .. unfortunatly out of range he then stops for 30secs just infront of me ... enough time to hail and hand in items ... woot Rare Robe Pattern ... ok so half 2ish in the morning now. run down to EC and hunt around for spider silks and shadow wolf pelt .. find them and combine with Gather shadows ... make the silk swatch then run into FP and wait just outside gate .. shouting for a n00b to help me by buying a Jonthons Whistling Warsong Scroll for me ... of course paying (again) no luck everyone just runs around ... guildy then ask how is quest going .. tal;k and he comes down to FP by now its 3.30AM and he runs in to the Bard guild and back out give me the Song and says there ya go, by now i am **** tired and combine at 4AM woot i made my Robe .....

WOOT got RoTLC after ages ( plz note Rasta`s PH cycle spawn thingy where u leave it at 8am ish and kill him the other times does work. also note Bro Z spawned just as i made it to Crossroads ... enough time i`d say for a decent PC and normal runnign speed to make it to RM through Lake Rathe might just be a coincidence but who knows maybe i`m just lucky like that)

Just for those who like the viewpoints from as many people as possible here's the route I took (just finished it):

Headband & Sash were done, I dunno, by lvl 25 latest? Fairly easy.

I camped Targin on & off for a week or two. It wasn't really a regular camp, mostly watching for him while I solo'd kobolds for xp (this starting around lvl 44). I think he was up once while I was doing this but a group already had him. I was in a guild xp group in the King room when he popped & dropped. I'm 45 or 46 by now. I'd say maybe, ehhh, 20-30 hours for Targin there not sitting in the room constantly.

After Targin (and some cursor bug issues that still aren't fuly resolved) I went to LGuk for Raster at lvl 47. Got down there, another Monk with a Cleric were there but let me have the camp as apparently the Monk had just gotten Raster a couple of hours ago. I figured then I'd be here least a couple of days. I sat there with a lvl 34 guildmate (not grouped, he still has decent Live faction) for about 6 hours total. Raster popped the one time I wasnt' watchng my spawn timer. Took him down with some help from the 34 Pally with me (didn't pooch his faction with one kill). Just for note, throughout this I don't play a twinked Monk. I really have an issue with those & I play things as straight-forard as possible. I find it much more rewarding even if I'm not lvl 60 in 3 hours. I do have a couple of decent weapons given to me but I did this with fists. so total Raster camp time was 6 hours.

Then got some help from a Druid & a Ranger int he guild, we hopped over to SK & tracked Brother Qwinn, handed in items, took about 10-15 minutes.

Went to Rathe Mtns. Brother Zephyl didn't spawn after 5+ hours straight of killing placeholders. The 'A drake' spawned quite a lot, think we killed it least 10-15 times. Killed Maldyl twice. Others in zone killed the drake a couple of times & I think Maldyl once. Never saw HAsten either. Had my little Druid tracking (same account, I can't 2-box it), the aforementioned Drid & Ranger tracking until they had to log, then another Ranger helping later on.

I logged in today, and not only was Zephyl up but so was Mortimer Syytrak (go figure, but no he didn't drop the vest). So I got that done in about half an hour 45 minutes. Kind of bad when the turn-in NPC takes as long to camp as one of the hunted NPCs.

Went to PoK, bought the Gather Shadows Scroll, & made the Shadow Silk (yes it's the scroll, shadow wolf pelt, and a silk swatch, and trivials around 50-51...mine's 46 & got it first time). Then combined everything for the robe.

For Raster I didn't use any kind of special method or anything. Once the room was cleared I just sat in the corner behind the PH spawn spot & killed the PH, then the other 4-5 spawns that pop in & wander into that room in the 10 minutes or so after the PH. Then I sat there bored for 15 minutes. Rinse & repeat.

RotLC still drops
# Feb 01 2003 at 1:45 AM Rating: Default
as of 2-1-03 it still drops off Bro. Z I know not everyone approves of this method for obtaining this robe, but to each there own. Placeholders for him are, Drake (just plain drake) Maldyn the unkempt and Hasten Bootstrutter. Respawn of mobs are approx 15min after death. I have killed him 3 times before i got the robe. Something that i heard RIGHT before killing him the last time was... If he pops WHILE you are ALREADY in the zone, and graphic shows him wearing the robe..then he will drop it. If you zone in and he is already up..doesnt matter how he looks..he might or might not have it. THIS IS JUST SOMETHING I HEARD!! When i killed him last time he popped while we were in zone and he was wearing it and it DID drop..just fyi. I hope this helps.

MQing
# Dec 27 2002 at 2:10 PM Rating: Default
Well I know alot of you don't agree with MQing. . .I'm a Iksar and yes I did find ways around KOS. For the red sash I ran into FP invis pulled Ran'un away along w/ the guildmasters I FDed in the big sand area then i killed him after the guildmasters left. Yes I did start to quest the sashes on a mule but after I heard they drop I droped him. As for the headband I bought my orange headband and bought all the rest of the heads and what not. I just kept questing the white sash on the mule for the faction. I MQed e code, the idol, and the pipes. Yes i know this sounds lazy to you but hear me out LOL. Not only is it hard for Ikasrs but I'm on a PvP server and thus PvP gets in the way not some of the time ALL THE TIME. And in addition everyone is always after the darky. So lets see how well you try to camp Targin the Rock when you got 4 gnomes pecking at your feet. Same with Raster. . .not a lot of ppl try to camp raster that I know of but when monks come to raster camp trust me they are ready to fight for it. Just to let all you blubies know on PvP servers you try to get things done quick and fast because the more time you spend standing in one place the more likely you are to be PKed. And I for one am a pureist that means there is no Xteaming for me. Xteamer-One who groups/guilded with a person of another team. But yes I do not feel to comfortable MQing all this I have spent time at all the camps spending many hours tryin to camp them and when someone sends you a tell outta no where asking if I want to buy this MQ I said YES. Hate me if you want but you don't have your epic :P and I do.

Hehe, sure, take the easy way out. I actually got the faction in both Freeport and Qeynos to do it openly with my iksar, not killing the guildmasters or using mules. And I'm proud of that. Mock me if you like for doing it the hard way, but I got a great sense of accomplisment by doing it that way. Plus, I can openly walk around most of Freeport as an iksar.
FINALLY!!!

I have finally acquired my Robe of the Lost Circle. Here is my experiences with camps and such.

Raster - Off and On about 4 times. Got him 4th time. Combined time was about 20-30 hours.

Targin - We moved into Kings room, and got him in 15 minutes. (No joke, it was AWESOME) Thanks to the little Gnome Fanren for keeping us alive during that Train, you are a superb Cleric!

Brother Qwinn - He was up when I went into SK, but it took me about 20 minutes to find him after someone held him.

Brother Zephyl - Took me about 7 hours to find him. "A Drake" was killed 11 times. Hasten Bootstrutter killed 4 times. And Maldyn the Unkempt killed Once.

I was so happy when I got my Robe!!

Thanks to Nufan and Nafun for helping me camp Raster, as well as Targin. Thanks to Tindien and Fanren who helped camp Targin also. We did an excellent job! :)

I was camping Raster on and off for about 2 weeks, for about 6-8 hours at a time. I got him my fourth camp, I was so happy you couldn't believe it. Combined time on Raster was probably 20-30 hours.
I have yet to camp Targin the Rock. I went there and a 60 Cleric was farming it for his Monk. I say if your Monk's not WITH you, then give the camp to me :)
I got the Purple Headband, and Red Sash when I was a lower level, and knew that I would be using them later, so I didn't sell them. I wont be selling them, ESPECIALLY not to an Iksar. I think they should make the Headband and Sashes No Drop so that the (arguably better) Iksar will actually have to work on faction. So is the punishemnt for being a hated race. Anywho, all I have to do is Camp Targin, and camp Qwinn and Brother Zephyl.

Handing in the Code of Zan Fi, plus a Purple Headband to Brother Qwinn will result in a Needle of the Void. Handing in "The Idol" (Idol of Zan Fi) Plus a Red Sash to Brother Zephyl will result in a Rare Robe Pattern. These two need to be combined in a sewing kit (You don't need any skill, it's 100% success rate) With a scroll of Jonthan's Whistling Warsong, and a Swatch of Shadow Silk. (Tailored using Silk Swatch, Shadow Wolf Pelt, and a Scroll of Gather Shadows I believe, if not, flame away) This will result in the Robe of the Lost Circle. A very nice Monk robe, and, even though it COULD look cooler, it actually looks pretty neat. It's kinda a dark, blood-red maroonish color, and if you have it, you should wear it with pride.

I have camped Raster, I plan to camp Targin, I have earned the Headband and Sash myself. I don't believe in MQing. MQing is for the weak and impatient. I will not MQ the Chardok and KC pipes, and I will not in any way MQ my epic. MQing/buying the components are signs of sure weakness. For you Iksar Monks, take the punishment for being a hated race, work on faction, do the headband quests yourself you lazy pieces o' crap! I have said what I wanted, flame away.

I got the red Sash doing excactly as described below great advice , the purple Headband I got from a monk friend who only needed the coronet from Permafrost to be able to make a new one.

The really cool part is that I killed Raster and Targin in 1 day though I did camp Raster for 15 hours the day before.

To all of you who hunt Raster this is what you do.

The Ikky monk does things this way.

I'll let ya in on a secret that lets you NOT have to work on faction majorly forever. First, all you have to do is kill Ran`un in FP, pull him, along with his sparring partner and the guild master standing outside, no gaurds will KOS you, its amazing, pull them to the zoneline, zone back in, the two sparring partners stand there, while the guild master goes back in.

Slay both of them or root snare both and kill one, they both drop the red sash. As for the headbands, I created a mule monk, killed all kinds of gnolls and stuff and got good faction with the guild and lvld him up to 7 in about an hour, did all the handing in of the stuff with him, and thats how I obtained my sash/headband.

as for the idol and book, I spent about a month trying for both, with success, if you don't have this kind of patience, WHY are you a monk?

If you dont have the power to kill ran`un or his lady partner, who are the same lvl about lvl 43, just create a mule in that city and quest for the sash with him. has anyone checked out the stats on the sash/headbands? they are lore, but NOT no drop DUHHH.. being an ikky, I find tons of ways to get around my KOS problems, unfortunately theres no easy way to get the Tynnonium shackle for you human monks anymore, but thats a different topic ;p
The Robe Is NOT Nerfed

My Guild has Killed Bro Q many times since the last patch. He Droped The Robe Of the lost Circle about 25 percent of the time, For all those who were wondering if it was nerfed or not. If your gonna say "no i read its nerfed" Well then they didnt completly do it because i have personaly seen it be looted about 2days ago in nk.

Strange the you looted it 2 days ago in NK....you know, i always figured Brother Qwinn spawned in SK, well maybe he walked to NK for you, but in my opinion, you ain't got this robe.
Success...
# Mar 01 2002 at 4:06 PM Rating: Good
Well I finally got my RoTLC today after some very hard work. I do need to say, a fellow Guildie (a Slimy Lizard - jk) took somewhat longer on his camps to get this Robe. Below are my times spent for each camp....

Raster(solo'd) - got lucky @ 2hours, just follow the directions for his spawning on Monkly-Business.com

Targin(partnered & solo'd) - 19hours, and when I was about to quit for the day... POP, there he was.

Qwinn(partnered) - 4hours to spawn along the western wall of SK

Zephyl(partnered) - 2.5 hours, killing all PH for him (Hasten, Drake, Madlyn).

Hope that helps everyone...

I would like to thank: Nexnecis, Sstyle, Morgolo, Korbitn, Krezz, Hanadar, Diffwin, Talamora... and anyone else whom I might have left out in my quest for this first part of the Monk Epic.

MQ'ing wth Brother Qwinn?
# Feb 25 2002 at 6:51 AM Rating: Decent
Can u MQ with Brother Qwinn? I have Purple Headband, and a guild member (non-monk) has the Code of Zan Fi. If he turns in the book then I turn in the headband, what are the chances that it would work? I really dont wanna loose my headband! Any thoughts or advice? And yes I could camp the King room in Solb, but if the book is available why not use it.

As of 3/2/2002, Brother Zephyl still does drop the robe. I can confirm it! Took about 9 hours to get two robes and we got him to spawn 4 times. First time we killed him, he did drop the robe. Second time he was empty, third he had a robe and fourth he did not. Based on this info, either we got lucky or he has a 50/50 chance of dropping the robe.

Would like to thank Niolob, Thongra, Serenata, Aceta, Nodge, Boloin and Nioshamy!

Once upon a time, yes, Zephyl did drop the RotLC every time. This is no longer true, this was just a little bit too easy.
He does still drop the robe. After camping him a few hours each over a few days, I did get this robe. On the 17th of June, 2003, I killed Zephyl and he dropped the robe. It was the 6th time I had killed him, the first five yielding no robe. Did drop a black headband and newbie tunic each time though =)

Actually, Iksar can do the sash and headband quests. I've done them all twice (I got stupid and sold my red sash and purple headband to a self-avowed lazy 54 Iksar monk. I'm an idiot /shrug ) BUT It does make a certain kind of Roleplaying sense for an Iksar monk to obtain his/her robe by killing one of the human brothers. They'd still have faction work to do in Erudin, though, I believe in order to complete the Epic.
Why?
# Nov 18 2001 at 1:26 AM Rating: Default
Why are you ppl so lazy... this is a quest why not do the quest as it was intened. It makes no sence to kill your own brother to get the item when if you take the time you can get it and the faction and you dont need a whole Guild to do it. The quest was set and was ment to be done in a certen maner not just kill the one holdig the robe. For all you ppl out there who re4aly want to QUEST in EVERQUEST and not just slauter your own Guild masters.... Do the quest.

You obviously never did the quest. Go try and get Raster to spawn.

Know of what you speak before you post nimwit. You can camp Raster for 100 plus hours and never see him spawn.
RE: Why?

To the answer to your question... No I have not donne this quest YET, but I will and when I do I will camp just as many have before me. I have done many quests that have made me sit in one spot for a week 2 weeks just to get 1 blasted MoB to POP. I know how frustrating it can get.

As an Iksar (If you are one) YES I can most definatly see the RP aspect of killing the human Guild MAsters to obtain this, BUT, to do it out of pure lazyness, that just dose not make sence. If you want the Epic you need to do the quests. If you dont like the Epic fine (I have seen many argue the point that the Epic is not all it is cracked up to be). I did not meen to sound harsh. If you would rather kill the Guild Master be my guest as for me and all my chars I will quest it out the way it was intended.

Good hunting all.

I agree that it is out of the spirit of the game to camp one of the brothers to get the robe, but you're not looking at all sides of this. Imagine you're a monk who didn't need the RoLC when you first heard about it, but now you realize that you have to have it for the RoWF. I think even u may start to consider just camping one guy to kill and get the robe rather than doing two long quests back to back.

btw, robe of the whistling fists is awesome =P

Yes, I camped Raster - even had him KS'ed from me once. Now all I have to do is find Brother Qwinn to get my robe. Been searching for him for the past 8 days and I gotta tell ya, it will really torque me off if some uber guild kills him for the robe, I will be very...very...(mad). :) Kill Zeph, he never wanted his robe, anyway.

Someone told me what seemed to be a remarkablw idea. Hand Zeph a really crappy, slow 2HB.Has anyone tried this and can confirm if it works?

this may or may not go without saying...

i was in on a bro z kill once where, on the first attempt, we all got waxed in short order. tried it a second time after giving him about 10 thousand copper pieces and we had a relatively easy time of it. maybe the monk weight/ac thing works for mobs as well? who knows...but it did seem to help us out.

the 2hb thing never occured to anyone i guess...pretty smooth =)

We did it once. Any 2hb weapon will do. The damage delay is not important. What is important is it stops him from DW (his hands). Therefor he only attacks 2x from DA, rather than 4x from DW/DA. Good luck.

the 2hb idea is actually the reccommended way of killing brother Z if you do it that way, the mino horn is generally the reccomended way of dealing with raster being where he spawns =). they both work equally well and it will litterally cut your damage in half when you go to do this quest. hopefully soon enough i'll be dropping brother Z or brother Q for their clothes. sorry brothers but i want my robe and i dont' think the darkys will like me playing in their back yard for a few weeks to camp it.
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 30 2001 at 9:12 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Try a minotuar horn it works also to keep him from DWing also do not and i mean DO NOT try 2 for it will not work at all so just goto Beholders or Steamfont beat up some minotuars and get a couple backpacks full of thier horns hope this helps..........................
yeah

This robe rocks. The stats are great. It's also probably the first of 2 actual "robes" I would be seen in. Most robes look goofy, but the pride of earning one of these (not just killing your brother) outweighs that. I plan on getting mine within the next month

Qwinn seems to be wearin' his robe. It's odd, becuase the first time I saw him pop after a long no Qwinn time he had his robe, then a little later no robe, then a little later robe. Anywho, one of those uber killeds killed him a few nights ago, next day I saw him again with the robe =). So, ya know... seems like he has it alot now that he spawns constantly.
still dropped by Zephyl and Qwinn?

Has anyone killed Zephyl or Qwinn recently and gotten the robe?

Patience and a prayer

Greets all,

For those of you monks out there have patience, the quest is surely doable, but like all quests for an item of this level it takes time. It took me 1 week or so to complete the neccessary headbands, 2 days of a King group in Sol A to get the Tome (and 3 levels), 2 weeks of studying the Raster camp, and two hours of a camp to retrieve it. I admit I was luckier then most, but he is a random spawn, so you just have to be patient and pray.

Sincerely,
Sir Armistis Daye,
39th Monk of the Lost Circle.
