The Greater Faydark quest works just fine. You got to make sure you are giving her the right combo.
The merchant Linadian, up some platforms from main lift, will make a Banded Orc Vest for you when you give her 2 legionaire shoulderpads, an orc fist belt and 10 gold.
Linadian says, 'Glad you are interested! I can create a leather vest I call a banded orc vest. It will aid you in repelling any disease and offers quite a bit of protection in battle. I will need some materials. For a Deathfist banded orc vest, I require two legionaire pads worn by the clan Deathfist, one Deathfist slashed belt, and ten gold coins. For a Crushbone banded orc vest, I require two legionnaire pads worn by the Clan Crushbone, one Crushbone belt, and one silk swatch.'
I submitted two "Crushbone Pads," a Crushbone belt, and the silk swatch, for a successful combine.
Make sure for the CB you don't give gold, make the silk swatch and give that to her with the CB pads and CB belt. NO GOLD for the CB vest

My dwarf needs something until he can get his newb quest tunic. Looks like I have to hang around CB and see if anyone will be nice enough to drop a dwarven tunic on me.
Another thing, this is elf only so why are Shaman listed as being able to use this?

It still works in Kelethin. I did it about 1 week ago. I think many people are giving her 10GP instead of the silk swatch, which is why they fail. If you hail her, she'll tell you what she wants. It took me forever to find two spider silks to make the swatch though. I must have killed about 30 of them before I got two. I guess they knew I needed it for a quest, LOL.
I want to try the deathfist version, out of curiosity, but I only have a deathfist belt, and no pads. Interesting quest, and the armor sold for a little more than 1PP in Kelethin.

Looks like the Deathfist version is the same but the Crushbone version is now 2 pads / 1 belt and a silk swatch, no gold needed... this is from Linadian in Kelethin...

Kelethin version still seems to be broken. Freeport works fine.
If you can get together the components early its not too bad to use into your teens.
Looks like chain texture with a black tint.

I've done it twice (both failed) and petitioned 3 times to no avail. Its probably broken and everyone in the chain-of-command is waiting for the software guys to give an answer. Your not likely to receive a good response (if any) until the software guys provide them with feedback. I work in software developement and thats what happens here.
Needless to say I'm traveling to Freeport anyhow so I'll pick the thing up there.

Is this thing really ZERO wieght? If so, then it's a descent item if only for that reason - us woodelves aren't well known for our great STR and STA. :)

No, it's not zero weight. If you look at the picture at the top, it says "WT: 5.5".

"Why even bother doing the quest to get this item. " For until about lvl 21 you can get almost a full bubble of blue exp from doing this quest Great for those who have skills maxed and just need exp to the next lvl.
And even if you die and loose that exp you got from handing it in and getting a few you still have the faction it gives you(merchant faction is in this quest). I did the quest about 20 times(for merchant faction) until I got bored of getting pads and belts, now my merchant faction is pretty good.
Funny though, I cant remember what items to give her to make it work, Ill try tonight and post again with a definate answer on what items she needs for it to work.

Is this quest really worth it? Doesn't seem to be the best item. And it seems it's a broken quest.

Yep. i tried it too , i checked and double checked and still the same thing, she says nothing and you lose your items, SUCKS! should of just sold the pads! it's crapy armor anyways!

you can do this quest in Freeport at an elven girl there.
She will make both CB vests and DF vests, but you have to give her 2 of the same thing, i think the CB is slightly better.
But both CD and DF both work with her as of 12 June 2001

it is broken in kelethin i have asked linadian over and over to make sure. she asks for crush bone pads and a a crushbone belt plus 10gp : or deathfist pads and a deathfistbelt plus 10gp. But gives nothing when you give the crushbone stuff exactly as she asks. i petetioned and am getting the run around. ive even tried my other characters, with same result. DONT do this quest untill they fix it. it may work in freeport, but not kelethin (although some people say they can do it after a few tries, i know some people who have tried it numerous times with the crushbone stuff and never got anything). Very frustrating. I know people are going to say "it works, i did it!" But it doesnt always. There is a problem with the kelethin part and verant wont give me a straight answer. I just want the vest, i dont care about the exp or faction hits.

i emailed verant about this problem, which guide tverant on zeboxulus told me to do. verant emailed me back saying that i need to petetion for a guide or gm in game (which is how i got guide tverant in first place.) can you say run around. typical verant style.

the quest requires Deathfist belts, found in EC. If it were CB belts it would be too easy.
I haven't tried the quest yet but am thinking about it.

It is very easy to mistake a regular cloth belt, or a tattered belt, for the CB belts. I have made this mistake myself many times.

I did this quest in March, it works fine (ask my Ranger on Zeb). Maybe you mixed up some CB and some DF items, or you gave her 1pp instead of 10gp?

I have done this quest a few times in the past, and it worked just fine. I gave the merchant the 2 crushbone pads a crushbone belt and 10 gold like she asks. and voila' a banded orc vest. Lately tho I have tried to do the quest and she just absorbs the items and money with out so much as a thank you, and certainly didnt give me a vest! Did they change the "recipe" for the quest or am I doing something wrong? Who knows!

Something like this happened when I was returning cb belts and lego pads, Canloe simply says "Uh thanks, dunno what to do with it" or something to that effect and then I dont get an item or exp, it has happened only 5 times, but it is puzzling indeed. I dont know what is going wrong, but you are not alone.

I've had Canloe Nusbeck do this a couple times as well. Have noticed that if I hail him between belts, pads, etc that it does not seem to happen. Don't need to respond to the hail, just hail him then give him the items. Don't know if it actually has anything to do with it or not, but since it seems to be working... I'll keep it up. Hope this helps you.

I've done the banded orc vest only 1 time before. Are you giving the items to the chick in Kelethin, or are you doing it to the same chick in Freeport? I've DONE the quest AND got the tunic from the chick in Freeport, but the chick in Kelethin aslo just absorbes my items. Quest might be broken in Kelethin...

The exact thing happened to me. I gave the merchant in Kelethin all of the items (2 lego pads, 1 cb belt, 10 gold) and she took them without saying a word and gave me no vest. Nothing. I petitioned, but they ignored me (on Cazic Thule server). Very upset. As a low level newbie, the 2 pads represent a great deal of sweat and risk. Very mad at EQ right now.
