Boots don't show up on Frogloks

Just posted the photo of an orange Froglok modeling the Scarab armor. He's wearing the Scarab Boots in that picture, but they don't show up at all. Too bad, it would have been a cool color scheme from head to toe.

Not worth it.
# Apr 22 2004 at 5:33 PM Rating: Default
This BP isn't very good anymore compared to some of the lower-end things selling in the bazaar these days....saw three of these seling in bazaar other day for 5p each, still selling for 5p.

It worth it if you are low char like <10 and need some armor that costs 33gp, though not worth it to 10+ chars...just saying this for anyone who might be considering this without looking at other armor.

These used to be all the rage way back when, kind of like Banded Orc Vests (anybody remember those?)used to be for elves. Unfortunately the newbie quest armors have pretty much made these things obsolete and driven the prices way down. I remember lugging piles of these all the way back to Rivervale and getting 30PP each for them. Oh, and these are now Froglok usable. The graphic here needs to be updated.

giant scarab in BB

I was hunting for xp when I killed a scarab in BB that dropped the pristine caprice.

Quite a rare drop. I'm going to have the breastplate made and maybe sell it for some $$$ so I can buy the spells I need for the next 10 levels.

I just sold one of these for 30pp and the boots & helm for 8pp. I probably could have held-out for more but this seemed like a reasonable price even tho the BP is AC14. These seem hard to sell in GFay - no takers after hours of auctioning but on my first auction in Kalidim, I had a buyer within minutes.

In GFay, every sissy newbie wood elf is already wearing a DRT. DRT's are lore so people are always selling them cheap or giving them away. I started a ranger and within 30 minutes someone was giving a DRT away. Next time you are there, go to orc hill and count the little pointy-eared ones sporting DRT's and SBS's.

While the scarab BP is a bit better than the DRT, no newbie in GFay will cough up scarce PP for a minor upgrade. You may have better luck selling to halflings in Rivervale.

If you want to make good PP in GFay, load up on split-paw stuff from SK. Rangers and Druids love that armor.

It's actually not better than a Dwarven Ringmail Tunic. Dwarven Ringmail Tunic sells higher to merchants and has a higher tribute value. The resists on the DRT outweigh anything that this has.

In GFay, on Tunare at least, if someone tried to sell one of these for more than like, 5pp, they'd be laughed out of the woods. Why should ppl buy something for 10-30pp which they can get for themselves for about 3pp (if you just buy the carapace, instead of killing bugs)?

Back in the day, before travel became so much easier, this was actually not so easy for halflings to get. The trip was long enough where getting there without a port was dangerous and could still result in multiple deaths before you got there. I would make the trip to RV with loads of these to sell for 30PP and made a killing off them. Over time, 30PP would buy you a lot better than this, but before Luclin and PoP there wasn't a lot to choose from with this much AC that you didn't have to kill high level boss mobs to get. There was this, Dwarven Ringmail Tunic, and a few others around but there was fierce competition for many of them. You could get this yourself without having to level to 50 and then get a lucky roll after a guild raid or wait in a long line for a camp. Also, before bazaar, it was hit or miss whether someone would be auctioning something comparable to this from the EC tunnel that you could buy from them. If nobody had anything that offered similar protection, then you'd have to wait until someone came online who did. Acquiring a bunch of these then running them up to RV was VERY profitable.

Just got one of these Babies.....
# Nov 15 2001 at 2:21 PM Rating: Decent
Just got one, and I'm level 6 (pally dwarf). If you want one, ask for some buffs and you can kill the giant scarabs pretty easy. I got shield of thorns, chloroplast, and SOW. I got a carapace out of the first one I killed! (I must be pretty lucky, huh?). Anyway, I was wondering if anybody knows a good price. I don't want to be ripped off, but I want people to buy pretty quickly. The estimated price didn't seem to be very definite. Also, should I go away from the Butcherblocks (right next to Kaladim) to sell them? Thanks for any help you can give me. =)

P.S. The scarab helm is pretty easy to get, I got it at lvl 3. Just kill all those easy worker scarabs around the entrance to Kaladim, and you can probably get a helm in 15 minutes at the most. Hope that helps =)

I ripped myself off tonight. I sold on of these for 10pp. No wonder I didnt have any trouble selling it. At least I have another I can sell for the real price, and I still have the one I made for myself. Got pretty lucky with the carapaces, one scarab in North Ro dropped two pristines at once. Now I have to get the boots and helm.

You can also find the pristine caripices in Oasis. I've gotten 2 of them in the course of killing about 20 giant scarabs. Gotten about 5 cracked too.

Halfling... hehe, may not be the best, but looks damn sexy in a plate helm.

I've got a level 12 dwarvish Paladin who is raking in a fortune getting these things made and selling them. I've come across 5 pristine carapaces so far just in the process of levelling in BB. The stats on these are too good ! I would expect to see this item nerfed in a patch fairly soon - probably make them no-drop. The possibility of having a Lvl 10+ character who can sell items for 30 to 50pp per shot and have around 500pp in the bank by the time they get to 13 or 14 is too unbalancing

I don't see why they would mind someone at your level selling these for 50pp after all, a level 5 or 6 character can walk around east commons killing bears and selling HQ pelts for 30-50 pp.
I have a couple to sell.

I am a 13th Lvl, Barbarian, Warrior that found 2 Pristine Carapaces in two days while trying to level my piercing. I went to Kaladim and finished the quest with the aid of my Dwarf Paladin and received the Breastplates.
I would like to sell or trade these to low level persons that can wear them but, am questioning the cost for which they will sell. I see prices ranging from 20pp - 150pp but, feel they are worth 50pp due to the high AC and HP mods. If you can give me any information or are interested in buying one or trading for HQ Bear Pelts, please send a tell.

Here's an attempt at collecting together a list of all the zones where the pristine scarab carapaces drop. Corrections are welcome.

1. Misty Thicket
2. Butcherblock Mountains
3. Unrest
4. East Commonlands
5. Kithicor Forest
6. North Ro
7. Rathe Mountains

I've never seen that last zone mentioned in this before, but it has some large named scarab beetles which are associated with the two sphinxes in that zone.

My advice would be to hunt the trio that are associated with the evil sphinx because they are out of the way and the faction hit is of no real concern unless you planned to have a chat with the "evil" sphinx. They are all the way down at the far western end of the valley where the troll guards spawn past a lizardman camp there. Their names all start with the letter "Z". The ones whose names start with the letter "A" are aligned with the "good" sphinx and those are found along the main path through the zone at the mouth of the valley where the troll guards spawn.

I killed these beetles repeatedly one recent Saturday in an effort to raise my faction with the good sphinx and managed to walk away with 4 of the pristine giant scarab carapaces. That's not a bad drop rate. They respawn fairly quickly, too, and since they are a predictable, fixed, static spawn you don't have to run all over the zone to find them.

:)

#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 19 2001 at 11:58 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Good grief shut up, its a nice BP for ppl who can use it... sadly my lvl 22 still has a DRT so i'm gonna go kill some death beetles in Unrest!
Go to Unrest

If anyone cares, the Pristine carapace now drops like crazy in Unrest off the beetles. Been PLing a char there for about an hour tonight. Got 3 of em.
Nice

This is a nice piece of shortie armor that you can pick up at like 7th level if you are in a good group and happen to get lucky with the Beetles in BB or Ro or EC (which is where I found one) or wherever else the Giant Scarabs happen to run and play. I might even make me a shortie non-int caster just to be able to wear one.

Just to bring it to your attention a ranger cant wear this since the only races are dwarf gnome and halfling and no of these can be rangers.

Just fo the record ( I know this is an old post) Halflings can now be rangers. Just my 2 cp.

These types of "mistakes" on items are fairly common. Perhaps originally the races included semi-small races like dark elves and wood elves. Verant may have changed thier mind and not updated the stats on the item. Or maybe early on, or in beta even (I wasn't around then) some small races (halfling maybe) were allowed to be rangers. Who knows?
