After clearing the troll caves about 20+ times and the undead blacksmith room nearly as many, I finally saw the First Mate spawn from a renanimated mercanary's corpse in the blacksmith room. I was AE kiting in 1st person so when the First Mate spawned and gave me a cuff, I was happy to see it was a slash instead of a hit Smiley: smile Of course, I've been epic for over a year so it wasn't *that* big of a deal, but nice to get anyway.

Plus, right after I killed him, I checked the pier I had cleared some 20min earlier and found the decaying fisherman up and got the necklace. Nice night all around.. heh

Had one helluva time getting this last night; spent about 6-7 hours killed undead trolls to finally get the First Mate to Spawn. Actually, my party and I were about to leave when the Captain spawned right behind us... with the sword in hand! What luck!
We set up camp just outside the undead caves, in the tunnel elbow. If you are coming from either entrances from Guthak you will cross the bridge, near the safe point (this spot is denoted on Nadox map on eqatalas.com), then take the southern tunnel (which looks like a backwards L on the map). The spot that we camped in is the elbow of the backwards L. We pulled trolls from the cave to this point, which was fairly safe. You must be careful because there are local pops about every 15-mins.
Also, Captain Alivio spawns across the cave, in the hall, straight across from the elbow. We killed him twice and received (2) Ceremonial Hate Amices. Also had (4) Coral rings drop and many gems. Ended up with about 1000pp each after selling items.
I have heard many people say that the Seafarer is the PH for the First Mate; unsure of this. What I do know is that he popped right after we killed a Waterlogged - right on top of the corpse.

As for this I would if you can try get a battle drummers main gauche (or somthing like that). It has a 80% mod. BEtter ratio and stats. Its a bit higher rec level. But it's worth it in the long run. The battle drummers do 54 dmg per tick on dots. While karans drum do 75. So not all that bad and doing 5 dot with double hitting swords is really nice damage. This is easier to get though. But the battle drummer is way more usefull in the long run.

This guy is a sissy with a 58+ druid w/ a bloodtusk beast pet. I spent about 50% mana in heals and my pet was hasted the whole time. Nice blade. I used my bard to test this blade to see how well it stood up against other percussion items but I will withhold my results as it doesnt really matter since I will get flamed with technicalities and endless reasons on why my conclusions are incorrect.

Happy hunting

Well I check this weapon out last night with my bard. Took out my beast drum, stood with my back to the wall and hit Num Lock. Bolted across Qeynos from one side to the other and timed it with my timer. Then I equipped the sword and timed it. I did this about 4 times with each. Each time I came up with the drum being only about a half second faster.

Now I know this is supposed to be less than a store bought drum, but am having trouble believing it.

Took a couple plat and bought myself a hand drum. Equipped it Did the same in Qeynos. Equipped the sword and did it again. Each time the sword came out to be about 2 seconds faster.

I think either this has been upgraded or the mod was wrong in the first place. Beast drum was only slightly faster if any really.

Just liked the claim that the Stretched Skin drum was same mod as store bought and I run wall to wall in Qeynos 2 secs faster with it also.

I do the runs near the zoneline to QH where the wall is spread relatively far apart and there is no lag at all. This could also be done in QH near the Qeynos zoneline. I know this may not be the correct way to test, But I know run speed is affected by mod. I don't think the mod on this weapon is as weak as people think. But then again I have been known to be wrong.

Best way to test a instrument or any modifer is to do something that gives a number. If you want to see how much a focus item give in add to damage for example. Nuke a low lvl mob that wont resist or take reduced damage. Nuke with and without focus item and compare the damage. As for instruments I like to use buff-songs. Try the katta sworddancing or just chant of battle. And see how much the str increase. Or a chant of some sort. The battle-drummer weapon do 54 dmg to 75 against the karana drum. Battle blade is 100% and karana drum is 180%. This shows pretty well since the 75 dmg is about 72% more increase.

Unfortunately your way of working out the mod is little bit inacurate. Due to poor connection, lag and any other number of things your results could have been effected. The proper way to work it out for drum mod's is to either use your DoT's (still pretty inaccurate) or to play your level 1 song "Chant of Battle" since there is no extraneous factors such as lag or resist.

So like you might imagine, play chant without drum to work out base increase for your level(V. Important you do all testing at same level). Then play with basic hand drum/epic,then play with drum you want to test mod for and then its just simple math to work out its mod.

Anyways not a bad sword and I wouldn't mind for my bard, although might not use it all that long. Is the mob soloable for a 65 Beast or duoable with 65 Mage as well? Thanks for info in advance =)

I have two of them so far. He is easy solo for a 65 necro. He is a rare spawn and takes awhile before you ever see him and most of the time he dont have the sword.

big pic folks, its got charisma, hp's, great ratio, and wow, u can sneak in a chant or two as well. C'mon havent you ever been in those groups where they say "take out your swords bard, we need you to melee" and your like "but im doting for good/consistent/manaless dmg", now you just smile and pull out this blad and get back on with the killing

The epic modifier is only 1.8, so I would say this at 1.4 is very nice for any pre epic bard that wants to melee and play percussion type songs. Then again there is the PoP version of a 1h piercing weapon that is a 2.0 modifier

Just bought one of these for 15k tonight and I must say it was worth every penny. Offhanded my Disemboweler for it. Although the mod isn't the greatest my advice is hold on to your Selo's drum if you don't plan to melee. This blade looks so damn sweet, looks nothing like the other ykesha graphics which are terrible in my opinion. Awesome pre-epic blade, if you have the chance to get one, don't think twice about it, get it =)

I got one of these the other day and I have to say that I love it. For all those saying the modifier isn't that good I say, "BAH!" This is a better percussion modifier then either Mistmoor or tambourine of rituals. Granted there are better percussion out there but the ration on this is awsome and a decent modifier to boot. I give this a 5 star rating.
RE: I love it
# May 15 2003 at 1:12 PM Rating: Default
the mod on this weapon is 1.4. the mod on the mismoore drum is 2.1, tamborine is 2.2... The point is, that it's NOT a better percussion mod than those drums.

Troubadour mace (1kish on tribunal) is a better ratio... this is a little faster. my little formula for comparing weapons says that the troubadour is better, even at level 65.

So the only advantages this gives are being able to melee and give a small boost to resist songs, and being able twist oos while meleeing without having to juggle a drum in.

20k, even 7k (the minimum price entered), is overpriced for it.

Play percussion songs while meeling. Even if the mod isn't that great you still get to twist protection songs AND fight while dual weidling. This is even good for say LVL 30's as it allows you to have one good weapon, and percussion going at the same time.

Nice one to sell off when you get your epic.
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 29 2003 at 10:33 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i just got this weapon today and i have to say im at least a bit disappointed. to the guy who sold this swords for 2500p: youre not really a business man, are you? man i sold worse **** for more...

# Apr 12 2003 at 3:51 AM Rating: Default
This is actually a very solid weapon, even with a modifier this low. Now you get an 11/19 weapon (solid in it's own right) and a percussion instrument (better than singing and let's you use OOS and stuffs in a fight). If you get your epic it's kind of a mute point, but this helps until such time.

Well if you are grouped this wep is great. Especially if your MT has a procing wep for katta's. Solo if you are not fear kiting why equip a wep? With DoTB you can chant kite ALOT faster.

First Mate Bresanev pops from any of the undead ogre type mobs near the docks. We've managed to pop him from a number of undead in the undead weaponsmiths room, to a few times on the docks near hates zone in.

Hes not just limited to War torns.

Where!!!!???
# Mar 10 2003 at 2:47 PM Rating: Default
Could someone please provide the coordinates / camp name and name of the mob that drops this in Nardox? For us epic-less bards, we'd love a weapon like this. I don't want any gifts, I'd just like to know where my group should go to camp for this fine piece of bard hardware.

Any good info would really make this bard VERY happy!

Thanks,

Dropped by First Mate Bresanev. My group got him right on the docks towards Hates Fury. I've only seen him once (dropped sword), but I've read that he is a triggered spawn (need to kill a war torn spirit).

We killed him en route to Hate's Fury as well. Just before we went in, had a rash of adds (including him), but none were "war torn spirit".

This is a very nice weapon for a soloin bard. Cant wait to get one. I am on the 7th hammer and seen one sellin for 50k.. give me a break.. I think the guy was just tryin to show it off and not sell it. Troubadors mace is goin for 3500pp and he is tryin to sell gem inlaid for 50kk .. OMG ! Guess iam waitin to buy this weapon...be a fool to pay that much for it ! Just my 2cp .

I have a 48 bard and was wondering HOW is this nice for soloing? If I want/need percussion mod for soloing then I am chanting. With the 1.4 mod this is supposed to have, which is less then storebought drums, it would take forever to chant anything down. Now I do want this wep but only for group sits as there are a few group songs that are percussion and this would boost them while I melee. Just my 100,000cp.

# Mar 08 2003 at 1:17 PM Rating: Decent
I don't know what the going price is as I am not good at prices. I just usually find the lowest price in bazaar and mark it down a little bit. I looked in the bazaar for two days after obtaining this sword but couldn't find one anywhere. After 2 days of searching of doing /ooc for price checks, I finally got someone interested. He offered 1k at first just to see how dumb I was. I laughed at him and told him to give a serious bid or shut up and he offered 2500plat. Since I dont have a bard or any bard friends, I sold it and decided I would farm it. To this day, I have looted this sword 9 times and won the roll 6 of those 9. I only have 1 left and have sold them all for 2500plat each.

Lucy says its 1.4 compared to a hand drum which is 1.8.. but it's nice to have a bonus to percussion while meleeing.
