Wisdom/mana conversion
# Dec 10 2002 at 12:51 AM Rating: Decent
Using allakhazam's mana calculator on my characters I have input on the site, my level 46 cleric gets 4.6 mana per wisdom point from wis items(I did not include base mana in my calculations since that has a different ratio). So from 200 to 255 wisdom you get (55x4.6) 253 mana. Therefore at my level (this wis/mana conversion ratio is supposed to change according to level) I would get 41.4 mana from the truewind earring. Make sure you calculate the total mana an item gives before you consider buying it.

No AC? Bah... 200 Wisdom? Bah...

I agree with the school of thought here that says that a) getting the most wisdom out of the fewest items is best, b) you DON'T have to have a 200 wisdom and c)AC is a good thing, and by putting 9 points of wisdom on one ear will allow you to remove one of your 6 point wisdom rings and replace it with an AC/HP/Mana ring of some sort and better yourself. Neither INT (for INT casters) or WIS (for WIS casters) have to be 200. I have a 52nd level Necromancer and she can match the power of someone with 200+ INT... it is all in how you manage your mana. I also have a 39th level Cleric who can heal for groups where she is green to the group, because I know my spells and know which ones are best to use to conserve mana for the long run. Many times I can heal over long periods of time with no Enchanter and with as low as a 194 Wisdom. Basically? This item ROCKS and as soon as I am high enough to start raiding Sky, I am gonna quest me one.

Wis & Int is the most critical stat for catsters peroid. Mana management is key, especially for Cleric & Chanty but saying that you are ok with 194 Wis simply is false. 90% of the time, your mana management will save you but when you get 2 adds, are chain healing, chain mezzing, the only thing that will save your grp is your amount of available mana. I have saved many a person with less than 15% mana avail because i was able to get a CH cast.

thats my 2 cp

Your thought of training can be correct, however thats not always true for the int casters. The priests are going to get hit due to thier heals' taunt. So, AC is a little more important to them. However, I can't see an int caster dumping int for AC.

A wizard and mage exist solely on mana and mana based convergeances. So, int to 255 and the next one for a wizard is dex to get a better crit percentage... therefore makeing the same ammount of mana do more damage, and makeing it more mana efficient. It is possible for a wizard to get a 253 int and 176 dex (erudite) with only equipment. And thats not includeing the robe of Darkness, which would put the wizard at the 255 mark with an additional 15 dex.
high wis items (in general)
# Aug 10 2001 at 6:38 PM Rating: Good
People, having 200 wis is nice, but having 200 wis from fewer items is nicer, period. With all my wis gear on I have close to or over 240 wis. Fact is, I dont wear it all at the same time, I swap in resist gear when that is needed, ac and mana gear most of the time. In fact currently I run at 199 wis in normal set up - and thats with roughly 100-150 in mana items.

So, let me tell you, if I got hold of this puppy one of my forest loops goes bye bye, cause frankly, Ill be able to swap in more ac in a slot that is designed for ac.

Silver Hoop
# Jun 14 2001 at 9:54 AM Rating: Default
Does anybody know what drops the silver hoop for this quest? I already have the other two items from a prior raid, and we're going back to Air this weekend (note to self: Stock up on junk food, there won't be much time for cooking) and I'd like to finish it if possible.

Thanks for the help.

Less than 200 Wisdom
# Jun 02 2001 at 8:46 AM Rating: Default
I'm a 56 cleric. My Wisdom is 197. And I'm better for it. Instead of having Wis+3 earrings, I have mana+35 earrings. That gives me slightly more mana, PLUS a chanter's Wisdom boost gives me more mana (and lets me swap in even more +mana items).

I pretty much ignore resists, and do fine. One key is staying far away from the mob to avoid the AoE, and running in to heal. Another key is liberal use of DA/DB.

Also not to mention that a higher dex will boost your AC, and that boost is larger with level... if you swap this in for a Forest Loop and your AC doesn't go *UP,* I'll be pretty surprised.

And as another poster noted, putting this on lets you swap other gear for better AC/resists. And yes, some of us don't have 200 wis and can still out-heal clerics of comparable skill and level, or opted for having some fun (ie gnome clerics). We'll get 200 eventually, and in the meantime, there's some roleplaying to do.

Dex has nothing to do with AC. Your AGILITY affects your AC. So putting in a forest loop WILL render higher AC than this earring.

But that is not the point of it tho. The very nice wisdom on this beauty indeed allows you to exchange some other gear for resists/ac/mana gear.

no AC? WHO CARES!
# May 15 2001 at 8:02 AM Rating: Good
you people say this earing isnt that great cause it has no AC, well lets take a look at this... This ring has 6 more wis then the Forrest loop that alot of people use. Forrest loop (if i recall correctly) has about 3 AC. so what you can do is just take one of your old items that has about 6 Wis and you can now switch it out for something with Greater AC and perhaps better resists. and you now have much better stats!!

I'm level 49 and don't have a 200 wis and I'm a damn good cleric, thank you very much. Try not posting anonymously next time so I can add you to my 'don't rez for love nor money' list.

How often does a Cleric need AC at this level? +9 wisdom makes this earring outstanding.

Umm... How often does a Cleric need more Wisdom at this level? AC or +Mana would make it outstanding. However, as is it is still a nice item you could use to swap out another Wisdom piece for something else with better AC/Resists
