I think Zahill is not on same lines as everyone else hehe

"AoW = Gimp, an hour in, loot up and get out. Time vs reward? GREAT."

Methinks hes thinking of Avatar of War rather then Avatar of WATER, LOL

what a numbskull comment ~

The QUEST (elemental access) to actually get to PoW is more time consuming, and a LOT harder than the 8th shawl QUEST and the reason that it's a far superior item? because it drops off a GOD fool! just because its a reward for killing why do you imagine that everyone and his mate will be wearing this? ./bonk ~ think before you speak, this item may not even drop when you kill Coirnav, this event takes weeks of planning, trail runs, wipes whilst refining strats, the amount of people wearing this could be counted on one hand per server, compare this with the amount of people per server wearing an 8th shawl. If effort = reward then this is definatly a well earned reward for those that wear it!! I hope to have one soon hehe!

this earring is now all/all

this dropped for us the other night, and it is all/all now, so even the hybrids can use it.

soe/verant have been stealth changing items a lot recently.

im pretty sure this is the one and only item/focus in game that Beast wearable that works on Paragon to add an extra tic.
So an extra 228hp & 91mana for ALL in raid when MGB Paragon is cast.

To my knowledge there is no focus effect that extends the length of paragon. Only SCR does so. Might be a good effect to add to our epic tho instead of a cold damage focus....
#REDACTED, Posted: May 14 2003 at 8:37 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Check the Focus on this....20% EE. I didnt work for months questing my 8th shawl for this effect (Zephyr of Brell) just to be capable of getting it in a drop. This item is a slap in the face to all shawlers out there, as we earned the right to the best EE in the game. To have it in a dropped (yes i know no drop, but i mean non-quested) item is an instult, and on a far superior item to boot. To all you would be shawlers out there....dont waste your time. Keep it up Sony, just glad to see you care about those that like to enjoy content instead of rewarding those that are only here to kill.

Int,

I think you are missing the benefit of this item, in that you can now replace your shawl. I too quested the shawl long ago and put a lot of work into it. Sadly however, it has grown outdated 8( At 50 HP / Mana, it is the single lowest HP Item I still wear.

I have passed up several upgrades because I wanted to keep the effect. I hope to get a Patience of Eternity item soon, so I can upgrade my shoulders to a better item without loosing my buff duration.

Wow... slight difference between the shawl quests and fighting the Avatar of Water. The shawl is a very nice item, yes, but there are better shulders out there for almost every stat involved for all classes. Wanting to get those stats, you can still have that effect you sought out doing those quests in a few items (this isn't the only one with an EE like this). There are even greater tradeskill quests out there as well. I know lvl 51-52 characters with final shawl, this is a lvl 65 only item.

More to the story, don't think SOE was meaning to degrade the reward of the shawls. Just like there are many items greater than most epics out there atm. Actually is harder to obtain an item like this than the shawls....
#REDACTED, Posted: May 30 2003 at 12:39 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Greater tradeskill quests...i know only of one, the PoP Earring. As for Time vs. Reward, its far easier to lvl to 65 and get to Elemental planes than it is to quest continually for ages upon ages for trade skills. Maybe you dont remember (or havent done) any farming yourself, as in you bought everything, but i sure didnt. I worked very hard for the shawl, and i am firmly under the belief that had i forgone that waste of time and focused on levels, i would be there now. As is im close, but knock off months of farming and questing, and you see my point. BTW, where did the AoW reference come from? i never once mentioned diffculty of mobs. Dont know what relevence that has with anything, but it took a HELL of a lot less time to kill AoW than it did to get the shawl. AoW = Gimp, an hour in, loot up and get out. Time vs reward? GREAT. Im not saying anything about what drops it, i could care less. The point i am trying to make here, is that something drops it AT ALL. aye, the shawl is now old, but for the trouble it causes the person under-taking it, there should be something special about it. They go anbd release something that anyone can get with that same "specialness", is downright insulting.

LMAO...DING...Your skill in Cluelessness(250) just improved!!!

First the tradeskills for prayer shawl took me all of two days to achieve...

Took me 3 months to gain access to Elemental Zones...Then took 15 attempts to kill Corinav the first time...That was to kill him ONCE.

I have am also wearing the Signet of Arcane...now that was a total commitment...220+ in all tradeskills (which will cost you 18AA to acheive) The farming all the drops for the combines. Then getting the Hope Stone which is pretty rare...paying for the tinkered Bow Cams...faming sacred waters...was a great fun and a rewarding quest...

Try Phylactery will get you nowhere...does not take as high of tradeskills, but take 6 books, 2 of which are not real simple to just go get. but the farming for the tradeskill portion of the quest took forever.

but comparing a drop from Corinav to the 8th Shawl...what a noob!!!

You're flaming a two year old post, and you call HIM clueless?

Tradeskills are a LOT easier today than they were two years ago.

Neither the shawl, nor this earring are particularly good by today's standards.

"what a noob!!! "

Pot, meet kettle.

Killing Coirnav is no piece of cake. Only a very small handfull of guild on each server will be powerful enough to kill him. So basicaly not many people will own this earring on each server. If I were a holder of the final shawl I would be super geeked to get this earring. That would mean I could repalce my shoulder item with something that has way better stats.

The reward for the shawl is THE QUEST. The reward for AoWater is THE FIGHT. Once you overcome the difficulties in your path, you recieve a trinket or two to remind you of your time here - a trophy, if you will. I believe the 8th Shawl is a great trophy, and it has served me well. Yes, I may eventually replace it with some 'better' shoulder-slot item, but I will never throw it away (and I'd love to keep the effect if I could).

The same goes for many other items I have come across in my travels: The Spear of Fate (epic), A Lucky Skunk Foot, my Shamanistic Shennigan Boots (which were a lot more stressful than anything else to obtain), even my Initiate Symbol of Rallos Zek. YES that's right, as a somewhat-godlike shammy (65, aa up the wazoo, yadayada) still carry around a 3 AC, 1 WIS, 3 Mana neck slot item, everywhere I go. It obviously serves no real FUNCTIONAL purpose, but it reminds me of who I am and where I came from, friends that have come and gone, and good times I've had. It's far more important to me than some of the stuff I actually wear.

DO NOT LOSE SIGHT OF THE GOAL. This is a GAME. The object is not to WIN - you cannot 'win' a GAME. The victor of every-and-any game is the person that has a great time winning OR losing. You can always try again, pump another quarter in, get that res, spin the wheel, but don't lose sight of the goal.

Of course, I am but a humble ogre of Zek, and we just like to fight anything and everything anyway. We prefer conquest to kingdom - on the battlefield you find your true strenths and weaknesses. See you there.

You odviously have never encountered AoW. AoW is not gimp, the encounter unlike anyting in the planes or non PoP.
I dont see you even have the flags to get into the PoWater anyway.
Shawl = easy. Nothing about it is hard except the last ring event, and I did it with one group.
Sitting a froge all day is boring.
When you finish the RZ, then clear water to kill AoW then you'll see your shawl is a peice of cake.
You make it sound like getting into to AoW is like falling off a log, and its not.

look at pong... people still play that! Everquest will always be around, sony knows this, why else risk killing their playerbase with eq2?

/sigh
Maybe I can level to 65 (currently 58 Druid) and find a guild just in time to get an item like this before SOE releases Star Wars, then EQ2. Not to be a troll about this, but, if I'm not with the guilds on the 13th tiers and whatnot, should I change my goal of trying to get "uber?" Don't give me the "I have fun just leveling my lev. 9 frog untwinked" etc. Same question goes for tradeskills, any chance I can top out before EQ's popularity goes in the crapper?

IMO as long as Verant keeps supplying content and improvements, EQ still has a long life ahead of it.
