Updating this since it hasn't been in 2 years. The posts immediately below are not about the Elemental Empathy quest, but the quest you have to do first for primal remedy. *This* quest requires camping luggalds in Torigan Mines - and only those luggalds drop the necessary item (Strength of Lava).

This is an ugly ugly camp quest; I spent more time between this quest (still ongoing) and the predecessor quest for primal remedy than I spent camping Lord Begurgle for my cleric epic.

We spent 5 hours yesterday on getting just *1* strength of lava to drop - and we need 3 to do the quest!!! We mostly camped the 9 luggalds that are near the skull room (3 in the skull room, including an occasional named), 3 in the neighboring room, 1 right next to the ramp leading down to the room where about 2 dozen Broken Skull folks are lined up in pairs, and the 2 luggalds which are down the stairs which are just north (I think north) of that single luggald (you can tell you're at the right stair because 3 Broken Skull mobs are occupying 3 of the 4 corners of the room with the staircase.) We also swam and camped the open area with the giant lake to the west that has 4 luggalds in it. And we killed the single luggald behind the 1-way wall (you can't pull him through the wall, from what we could tell; you have to fall down the pit trap and swim up to his area to get him!)

The only one to drop it was the luggald behind the false wall - but he dropped only 1 of 3 times we (Levels 59 and 52 mage) killed him. We're trying again all weekend, but if it was not for the high pet haste associated with this spell I'd give up. I sure wish that Sony would make it researchable!!!!

Pretty much 100% luck...killed for an hour and got lava in the fort then camped for the night, came back the next day and saw that people were getting sea in the nadox temple so I went in there and cleared every luggald and not one dropped...So I walked over to the fort to clear it and it dropped the sea on the first clear. And it dropped the lava on the first clear...lol

I needed new pet heal and did the primal remedy quest in about 30 mins...most of that was travel time...went in to fort and got both flickers in 3 kills...lv 51 mage.

So any mage found out if this spell stacks with the burnout line of spell or only as a replacement. if it stacks then will be worth doing quest as mage pets dont have a max haste cap
mask *25 persent
burnout 5 80 persent
this one 60 persent
It starts to add up:)

No it does not stack to the higher level Burnout spells. It does, however, last around 90 mins.

perhaps a little out of balance?
# Feb 27 2003 at 7:50 PM Rating: Good
Hi all,

Not trying to complain, but I think that maybe the quests for these spells are a little out of balance. Or maybe I'm just doing it wrong. I heard though that the luggalds in the fort in the hut drop the flicker of lava and flicker of water, so off I go to camp them.

After about 3 hours I get a flicker of lava . . .not bad. 8 hours later I still have not found a flicker of water. Last night we camped the Efreeti for 3 hours and got 2 pairs of boots and 1 Djarn's Amethist Ring. So in 3 times the amount of time it took me to get 2 boots and 1 ring from him, I still have not been able to finish a lev 44 spell quest.

Am I doing this wrong? Does the flicker of lava drop somewhere else? Or did Sony just overdo it on the effort vs. reward ratio on this quest?

I tried something with my mage around level 52 or so... I hadn't gotten this spell yet and thought I'd try the quest, and after 6 or 8 hours it finally dropped a flicker of lava.

A friend called me to join them in Nadox, telling me to go through the temple entrance. They were still setting up so I took a minute and killed off the luggalds at the entrance and on the 2nd kill I got my flicker of sea.

It seems to me if you don't try camping any particular luggalds you have a much better chance at getting the drops... I've done this twice more since I've gotten the spell just to see if there was anything to my theory and yes, after the 15th luggald I saw I got my lava, and about 5 more after that gave me sea; the frequency was the same each time pretty much (give or take one or two mobs).

If you're bashing your head against the wall on this one, just crawl through the zone and you'll get your drops. Camping seems to be a bit less efficient on this one.

No, you are not doing it wrong. My mage did the same thing. The first night I camped them I did not get anything. The second night I was there for an hour and got the flicker of lava. Then I am not sure the amount of time that passed but 5 pops later I got the flicker of sea. This is where both flickers drop just takes time. I remember for my magician when he was trying to get the POF for his epic. I pulled into the zone and ran into another mage. She didnt know the way to the elementals so I lead her there. We decided since it was a long lonely camp that we would share. We killed them once and nothing. Next pop a POF and she won the roll. So we stayed for a while longer. I did not get my POF till about 4 days later. A grand total of more than 30 hours camping. So the moral of the story is two fold. 1. DONT share you camps with anyone no matter how cute they are. *heh* j/k
2. It just takes time. I have seen people pull in and get them both in two kills. I know people who have been doing this since the game went live and still have not gotten them. The other night I nearly freaked a guy looted both of them off the same kill. I was grouped with him and watched him do it.

I completed this quest 2 days ago. My group (pickup) camped the fort for about 2 hours max and I got the 2 drops that I needed without much problem. If you are low enough lvl for the hotspot exp to kick in it is not a bad camp.

I do not believe this spell comes from the flicker quest. I completed the flicker quest (more than a turn-in) and when I finished it I got the new 44 spell, AND a new quest. The new quest from Vera upon getting the 44 spell is to go to the Torigian Mines and get 3 different liquids from the Luggalds there. These Luggalds are around 50ish and dark blue at 57. People in the area told me not to attempt to solo that they had tons of HP and would wipe the floor with me.

I believe this second quest is what will actually give the 52 spell. Here is the text Vera gave me taken from my log.

Vera says 'Thank goodness my sister is feeling better. While you were gone, I was able to figure out the exact healing power of the flicker liquid. I have transcribed it on this piece of parchment. Here, memorize this and may it serve you well. Now, if I can just figure out what sustains the lava elementals of Broken Skull. If you are up to it, I could use some [more assistance].'

You say, 'more assistance?'

Vera says 'Thank you, _______. Apparently, from rumors I have heard here in the lighthouse, the luggalds use some form of serum to harness the minds of the pirates and make them into slaves. Not only do they control the slaves, but they have also found a way to make them stronger. I suspect if you could get me some of the substance that the luggalds use to stoke the flames of strength in their slaves, I could find a way to transform it into a form we could use on the elementals of our craft. Are you willing to take a chance and make a [dangerous journey]?'

You say, 'what dangerous journey'

Vera says 'Then journey deep into the mines of Torgiran and look for an elemental power on luggalds in the mines. Bring me three of the elements they use. I suspect they harness its power from the giant seam of lava splitting the mines.'

This spell is quested. In Gunthak, there are buildings surrounding the lighthouse. Hail Vera and she will tell you her sister is ill and she needs a "flicker of lava" and a "flicker of sea". These drop from Luggalds. South of here, you will find luggalds in two little forts. They conned light blue to me at 55, many were clerics. Spent about 2 hours there and got the flicker of sea.
