The RNG is a fickle beast - give it a time-out then try for the drops again. May the odds be in your favour.

If you discover the minimum skill level necessary to even try these, let us know and we'll be sure to update the recipe accordingly.

KK I know prices on these babies have come way down..but even befroe GoD and OoW came out ...i Know i saw them sell for alot less than 100k..shrug guess it depends on the age of you server and how many are in the market. But the reason they do sell for mucho plato is cause 1) elemental drops to make and 2)Rangers can get an ELEMNTAL weapon wittout ever stepping foot in any Plane. My experience is my DPS got insane (compared to other non-MASSIVELY untwinked player) ...well if you dont consider getting an elemntal weapon before your elemntal flagged massive. Even rogues didn't too more dps than me til they start getting some elemntal gear (gear they actually had to go into an elemntal zone to get)

dam that sux for u all's bow is only 15-25k on sol ro server, probally best bet on other servers is either buy, or farm items and find someone to do a combination that has a 250 skill +trophy, and fletching mastery3 and salvage

Planar steel gears come from the same combine you do for bolts. You get one of each per combine.

This item appears to be missing the recipe. It is:

2 x Planar Steel Bow Cam
Planing Tool (returned on success and fail)
Stonewood Bow Staff
Vegerog Fiber String

The combine can be done in a Planar Fletching Kit or a Collapsible Fletching Kit only.

Ok so you play on all servers and have checked the price. No Ididnt think so, On the 2 servers I play on you will not find it for 60k, if you did its someone desperate for cash or a friend. Often 200k may be asked but you can get it for 100k if your lucky but I ended up having to pay 140k for mine.

An outsider
# Jan 18 2004 at 10:57 PM Rating: Default
I am a paladin and recently bought this bow. I got it becuase it is one of the best buyable range item I could find in terms of stats and the effect. The effect is better for me then on the rest of the bows, would much rather have 2 regen and +10atk then some proc. My archery skill is maxed at 75 or something rediculously low and I will never use this bow for more then pulling if even that, so procs do nothing for me on a bow. This seems to cost the most of all the bows and I am not sure if it is becuase other non-ranger melee and tanks are thinking the same thing as me or if the supplies or more rare or what. I have read and heard that the Featherwood Compound Bow is suppose to be the best DPS but all are very close to each other. On a side note the supplies for this bow are currently going for around 40k minmum if you buy them in the bazaar. On a side note I am told you have a 60% chance to succeed with max archery skill, a geerlock, and GM trophy :/

I just bought my ranger one yesterday and I can tell you why I did. Firstly the procs on the others are pretty pointless as the damage from the archery will be a Lot more than the proc. The regen is then great on this bow - a much better effect imo.

However I believe the real reason we all love this bow, is that it does so much darn damage! It can get pretty dull just hitting the archery button, and having big impressive numbers to read makes it much more fun ;).

On a personal note, I've found lag to be the largest dely on archery (since the server fails to responde to some clicks of the button), so a large delay means we can fill the missing gaps with casting so as to maximise our presence in the group.

Take the int away from that beautiful bow this instant! A bow this fine deserves to be in the hands of a class that knows how to treat it right. Soon it shall be mine, but until that day, a little pieces of me dies everytime i see a rogue running about with it.

this is an awesome bow for any that can use it or afford it. its worth every PP

heh....what does int have to do with a rogue using it? anyways look at the stats, dont get jealous, just get yer **** together and gather the parts.... alls ya gotta do is get a group in the places where the stuff drops and roll on it when it drops...simple
RE: ranger!
# Feb 12 2004 at 6:31 AM Rating: Default
Ok again you think you know what your talking about but you dont. You have to be ele flagged for some of these drops for the bow and not everyone has a guild or can get to those planes yet. From lookin at your magelo (if its current) neither can you so its not a simple matter of going to the place and camping the drops, mabey do some research befor posting and you will do better next time.
RE: ranger!
# Aug 07 2004 at 8:33 PM Rating: Decent
It acually is just a matter of getting a group together and going to camp the parts.
RE: ranger!
# Feb 21 2004 at 7:59 PM Rating: Decent
Why down people like that? for one thing, just because his magelo doesnt look the best, doesnt mean he cant go. I know some friends who are ele flagged and are NOT in a guild.
Maybe you should just stick to playing with yourself and quit putting down others.

as of all tradeskill, only skill affect success rate, int/wiz, or third stat is only for skill raising...lot of 250<tradeskilled item still have 40 or so % success rate...
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 03 2004 at 7:00 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Attributes that affect the success rate in fletching are int/wis (which ever is higher) AND dex. dexterity is how efficient you are with your hands and most tradeskills, including fletching, are mainly done using your hands, therefore the better your dexterity, the more success you should have. also, if you have your GM fletcher's knife, a geerlok planing tool will not add 5% along with your GM trophy, it's either, or.

The ONLY things that affect your SUCCESS rate are:
1) your skill level
2) the trivial of the item
3) the highest % modifying device you have equipped. (And modified skill is capped at 252, so if you are 250 skill, any % mod item will cap you at 252).

NO STAT HAS ANY EFFECT ON SUCCESS RATES!!!!!!!!

The highest of wis/int/dex will determine SKILLUP RATE at fletching. NO EFFECT ON SUCCESS RATE.

NONE!!

NOT ONE BIT!!!

I read you loud and clear my brother but you are forgetting that yous list is not all inclusive to what affects your success/failure rate. Fletching Mastery 3 will reduce your fails by 50%
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 18 2004 at 1:50 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Int and Wis are all the determine skill ups and other stats such as dex augement success rate. Scream all you like but it doesn't make you right...
#REDACTED, Posted: May 17 2004 at 1:04 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) WOW -- for someone who likes to flame you sure are wrong. Try making a new character and during creation click on "dexterity" -- TADA dex has nothing at all to do with success rate -- nor does any other stat -- only skill level effects success rate (% skill mod items affect skill level). Also you'll notice that the character creation descriptions of strength and dexterity list them as modifying skill up rate for certain tradeskills just as if they were intelligence or wisdom, so Int and Wis are not all that determine skill up rate.
How much is average hit?
# Sep 28 2003 at 11:46 AM Rating: Good
How much is the average hit when using this bow? I've seen a 65 Ranger in PoI solo there and his bow was hitting the mobs for easy 400... I also know that Rangers get spells to imporve their bow like Eye of hawk (I know there is better out there somewhere hehe), but I just wanna know what the average hit is for like a 65 Warrior or Sk.. Just something I wonder about.

A level 65 ranger with AM3 using this bow along with Trueshot and some good arrows can critical hit for up to 2,349 that I'm aware of. Trueshot Headshots I've seen listed up to 65,600 auto-kill type shots, though I'm told they're possible against big boss type mobs for whom that's not a kill, just a bunch of damage. Haven't seen it done, but it's spoken about by a number of reputable people over on eqrangers.com

I as of yet dont have one, but I shoot AoW bow and the max dmg for that bow it 684 w/ eq-Am3 295str 295dex. AoW bow is 43/45. so far max crit I have seen w/ it non-TS is 1174 and w/ TS has been 2374. On average w/ any bow you are not going to hit maxdmg everytime, so if you average out your Max/min damage you wind up hitting around 400 per shot.
RE: How much is average hit?
# Nov 23 2003 at 6:23 PM Rating: Decent
Friend has one, and let me use it in PoJ trials. Was 63, have AM3/eq, and used blessed guardian arrows. Not sure what my stats were, as was a week or so ago, but str/dex were not maxed out. I was hitting for 600's a lot, non crit. Did over 1k with non TS crits, and once I used trueshot, max crit I had was 2.4k. A VERY nice ranger bow. Not able to get the drops to attempt to make one, nor do I have 150k atm. But saving up. :)

#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 27 2003 at 4:24 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yesterday I finally managed to get the last component for this bow, sent a tell to a friend's guildee who's GM in all trades to have him combine it for me. He failed at combining the bow which i don't blame him for, but now i'm really pissed off at those SoBs in SoE that just ***** us players big time ! this just sucks that even GM have roughly 60ish % success rate (as a GM fletcher told me) in making so expensive bows. I know this game's called EVERquest, but I'm starting to understand peeps that buy stuff on Ebay rather than try & get it in game.
RE: Pissed off
# May 27 2004 at 5:33 PM Rating: Default
ummm one of the best bows in the game up on top there. its the way tradeskills work, it just like an uber mob drop sometimes you raid and you get your drop first time sometimes you need 3 raids to get that one peice you were after, yea it sucks but sheesh do you expect these to be no fail combines?
INT?
# Sep 19 2003 at 11:42 PM Rating: Decent
Why can't some of the best bows in the game have 15 wisdom. Considering that rangers are the main class that are willing to spend 200k on a bow. I can see how the INT is great for Shadow Knights, but the majority of them are not going to spend 200k on a bow.

I have this bow, and i wouldnt trade it for the world. Most rangers i know have had a mentor, the one who tought them the basics of ranger life then the guys who showed you what to do on a raid. Im no different except for the fact i've had three great rangers set me out on the right path. The funny thing is, we all have a different bow that fits the way we want to play. I love to tank, so this bow is def. my choice. Someone else posted already the dps on the elemental bows is fairly close, and i would have to agree. So FYI to the other rangers of the world thinking about getting a Elemental bow, just get the bow that best suits your play style. In the end its all about having fun after all eq is a GAME so PLAY it to have fun. Dont be sucked into what the rest of the gamers out there think YOU should do, do something for yourself for once, get a bow YOU want. Cause after all as a ranger our bow is like our baby riiiiiiiiiiiight? :-D

better bow
# Sep 09 2003 at 11:05 PM Rating: Decent
the better bow, is the bow with the features you want. these 4 elemental bows are so close in dps/ratio (since bows dont have dmg bonus applied they are pure ratio like our offhand weapon) as to be an irrelevant issue. the biggest thing, is the different stats or effects offered. one has a dd. one has a stun. one mana taps. one regens. one has large fire resist. one has large MR. one has large svDis. one has more of that stat. one has more hps. thats the biggest difference.

personally, I want stonewood.
-most total HPs
-large svDis, which for me, has always been my worst save (it is for most folks i know).

oh well, this bow has this dly, or that one that ratio. or this one is better at TS...malarky...espcially when you consider the amount of haste a person with any of these bows is likely to have (epic and fleeting quiver at the lesat, more like be haste buffed as well). 40% + 20%(Fleeting Quiver) + Celerity (being conservative, only 50% haste versus high enchanters 68%)....thats 110% haste applied to the bow right there. that takes the Stonewood bow down to 17.6 delay, 2.38 ratio. Same ahste, takes Featherwood down to 11.4 delay and 2.1 ratio. Thats difference between the fastest and slowest. Not much.

Also consider (for those unskilled at math and need this spelled out) if one weapon is better dps before trueshot or crits...it will also be better dps AFTER TS and crits. Its like adding a coefficient to each side of an equation. You've essentially changed nothing.

Look at the "whole package". Thats your deciding factor. Not just big eye candy crits, or ultra high speed Uzi's. Pick the package that suits your needs.

Bow or No
# Sep 09 2003 at 5:33 AM Rating: Decent
Just another note to help a fellow ranger decide on what bow is best for his needs being my UBER 62 RNG is now maxed at 265 DEX and I have tried all the bows todate man made, This is the best bow if you don't have EQ, even if you can summon arrows the Featherwood & Primortal just haste through them & will leave you standing around wanting more arrows when your in the heat of battle, I think the Obsidian is a cool bow as well except if your out soloing and your root gets uprooted by the proc, this baby you don't have that problem, otherwise if you have EQ & AM3 the Featherwood or Primortal is the one you want, Personaly I'd go Featherwood.
NICE
# Aug 26 2003 at 4:40 AM Rating: Decent
I have seen tons of formulas on breaking down dps, haste, etc. With warriors and aggro types its a no brainer the faster the weapon and the better the proc the better the weapon is for them of course dmg of the weapon also. However for rangers its a diff story, rangers are rarely in summoning range and dont take aggro shooting. I am big headed and enjoy the higher crits therefore would take this bow over the other POP bows, I think you will find the dps is relatively the same not much diff on the POP bows just diff procs. The 5 higher dmg vs dly would probably make this a better pure dps bow however the lack of a dd proc would even the others out. So if you like the big numbers get this bow, if you like the rapid fire bows get a featherwood all in all dps will be around the same.

# Jul 10 2003 at 12:59 PM Rating: Decent
I just purchased the bow yesterday and tested it out. Max normal damage on a stationary target is 672. Max normal crit on a stationary mob was 1150, Trueshot max crit so far was 2278. I can't say the TS crit is max possible, but 1150 is the norm max crit with a Blessed Arrow(11 dmg + 4 FD). Contrary to many people's thinking, Crit is NOT 2x the base damage. Its less than that, also the bonus damage is applied to bow damage, and because its done after all the modifications(Am3, level 51 double damage bonus and so on) you cannot say if you did 600 normal damage, TS will be 1200. With a 38 damage bow(My old bow, Bone Carved Shortbow) Max normal crit is 1069 with blessed arrow, so by adding 4 more damage to the base, you can see the dramatic increase to 1150.

weapon crits are aprox 1.7x damage. ie, a hit for 200 succeeds at the critical hit check, gets 1.7x multiplier, becomes a Critical Hit! (340).

and NO, archery/throwing do NOT HAVE DAMAGE BONUS APPLIED. how many times i gotta say that?

400K on Zeb. WAAAY overpriced IMO. They'll come down of course. They always do =)

I'm rather pissed at SoE (well for many things, but this is just another) that NightmareWood Compound Bows are as common as bone chips now and that the next step up in craftable PoP bows come from the Elemental Planes and only Uber guilds have them. There should have been some middle ground here, with bows from Tier2 and 3 zones, ah but what am I thinking? That would "MAKE SENSE" and thus, violate the SoE EULA (End User Licence Agreement). /bonk me =P
