Tri-Coated Metal Casing  

 

Zoned into POI and dropped off first spider I killed. First spawn on the right pathway. Note in POJ also dropped for me on first kill. Don't know if they changed the drop rates on all this stuff or what, but so far it's easy!

Just thought I'd post something that might make ya feel better: tonight I was in PoI for about one hour with a level 70 Pally and myself (lvl 69 Ranger). We were fighting our way towards the area where it's claimed that the defectives camp. Halfway there, we were having trouble with all kinds of adds - and one happened to be a roaming defective. I killed it thinking it might be the only one we'd get to that night, and, in fact it was ... it dropped the Tri-Coated Metal Casing.

First defective killed, dropped the piece I needed. Luck can play a part in the game, too.

Started crawling right from zone in today to get gate neck drops and found casing on each of first two spiders we killed. I was floored, and extremely happy :)

The Size C Spring still elludes me though...

OK, here's some information on how to get this drop in about 2 hours.

1) Do not run around killing the mobs near the zone in hoping it will pop and drop. It won't unless you have the luck of god. Don't waste your time.

2) Follow:

Bring a group. We did this with 64 Pal 64 Rog 65 Rog 65 Shaman bot. We got 3 in about 5 hours.

Go RIGHT from the zone in and follow the main tunnel past Anizok's tower. Keep going and you'll pass a door on your left and then you'll come into a large open area. There are 3 exists from the open area: straight, a door on the right, and a short tunnel on the left that leads down to another door with a model room. You want to go LEFT. This is the spider area.

This short tunnel has several spawns. At the top of the ramp (tunnel entrance) there is a wanderer that spawns and wanders down. About 30% of the time, it will be a spider. Its PH's are a rat clockwork, and a busted power source. At the far end of the tunnel (the door) there is another wanderer that spawns and wanders up. Same spawn style, 30% spider. As you go down the ramp, on the immediate left wall is a spawn, that will be either a model (obsolete, archaic) or a scrap collector. Right there is about where you want to set up to announce you own the spider area.

A little ways in the tunnel makes a 90degree right. At the elbow are 2 spawns. They are spiders about 80% of the time. They can occassionally be an obsolete model, but mostly they will be defective clockworks. To the right, on the inside of the turn's elbow will be a model (obsolete, archaic) or a scrap collector. This mob is never a spider. As you follow the tunnel through the turn, it will turn back 90degrees left. On both the inside and outside of the elbow of this turn there are spawns that are also, about 80% of the time, defective clockworks. They can spawn an obsolete or archaic placeholder though. In the middle of the turn is a static model mob (obsolete, archaic).

The mobs here have a fairly long aggro range and like to add, but the camp is pretty easy overall. The group above held it without kei or virtue with no real problems. Occassionally respawns will add after you break it. If you're lucky you'll get up to 6 spiders per round of spawns. Expect the Casing to drop no more than 1 time ever 2 hours and you won't get too impatient. We got 3 in about 5 hours.

Through the door is a room where, on the left side, alot of corroded models can spawn (which you need to drop the Size C Spring). This area can get you through the POI part of the quest in a single night.

was in poI a couple days. lots looking for it so kept a low prfile and killed lots of suff, I got good exp considering how many i killed and the amount of time i was there. spiders dropped it, they can spawn as wandererers or as a static mob, got mine off a static mob spawn. was fun fighting there.

super rare.. I've been hungin POI for this item for days now.... sigh.. I'm a 65 bst and i've must have killed everything in POI at least three times.. lol.. good luck getting this piece, cause i'm about to give up on this quest.

I have now spent four days trying to get this to drop and 2 of theses days i had grps that were there to help me get the drop. once i had seen it and that was first time i killed this mob but lost the roll. i've almost got a whole lvl in this zone just trying to get the one item to drop.

have seen it drop from the tall skinny models, the same that drop the large smoothe metal torque.
