Rarest Elemental Instrument

This is, by far, the rarest out of the three elemental instruments. Our guild has done over 15 runs on the Fennin script and we've yet to see one drop.

Ranked in availability:

1) War Drums of the Rathe (Quite common from the Stone ring in PoE)

2) Lute of Flowing Waters (Killed Griolin 3 times, dropped 2 lutes)

3) Blaring Horn of Fire (Killed Javonn, Azobian, Hebabbilys and Reaxnous so many times, and nothing)

i dont know about that. I got lucky and got the lute off wise first time we killed him. The drums on the other hand, seem to be VERY rare, ive done 5-6 rock rings with no drums, and have spoken to bards who have done many, many more without any luck. I'd place the drums on th very bottom on the list.

Drums cant drop back to back, or consecutive times can they? Ive heard they couldnt. If so that means that if one guild does rock event and drums drop then your guild does it, you wont get them. And theres still a chance something else might drop too. In this case you may not get anything from the 4 demons and if you do theres only a small chance of getting anything. The Lute is pretty rare IMO have seen 2 out of 11 Wise kills.

5 to 6 and no drum? Quite common? The drums are probably about a one in 15 drop if that. It's not that rare to go 30+ kills without getting the drums. Yeesh.

Not that the horn is any more common. In 8 Fennin kills, the 4 lords have only dropped a total of two items.
still in drop tables?

Does this even drop any more? I can't count how many times we've done the Fennin script now (either successfully all the way to killing Fennin, or wiping on Fennin when we were learning it) - and not a single one of these has dropped for us. GRRRRR

... apparently it does, one FINALLY dropped for my guild last night on our 20th or so run through the Fennin ring

You can't, and have never been able to, hold two instruments at the same time.

This horn has a 3.4 mod. with im3 and at3 you have a 4+ mod on warsong of zek -- in a melee heavy group, this is certainly worth equiping it secondary with a mainhand weapon.

see http://lucy.fnord.net/item.html?id=27996 for details

You cant equip any instrument in secondary and have anything equipped in primary. You could put this in primary though and have weapon in secondary.
Problem with this.

At 65, what do you use a horn for?

Almost nothing at all. The only brass song that I use at that level is Warsong of Zek; although it would benefit from this thing's modifier, by the time I got this I would have IM3/Jamfest/etc and the effect of equipping this horn would probably be about a 5-10 point damage shield increase before I hit the cap, assuming I wasn't at the cap already. Haste is another component of that song, but haste and slow are not affected by instrument modifiers, so no argument there. The atk might help a bit, but it would still be minimal. And if a boost of that little justifies me putting away a weapon to use this, then something is wrong with that.

Tananicscorpse is correct on every count. this horn LOOKS like it would be nice , but would never be taken out of a bag if looted at all! those who play endgame bards know what I'm talking about, we never use brass instruments over epic. This is a toy at best , another smoking **** courtesy of VI.

Have you ever tried twisting instruments and weapons in your primary? It isn't that difficult and allows you to maximize your melee while also getting the most out of your songs. You should never have to sacrificce anything, learn to adjust

I disagree with both of you. This instrument probably has a 2.8 mod on it, like the rest of the high end instruments out now. Sure, you have IM3, but then you have ayonae's tutelage which throws the cap up some more. Sure with warsong it would only throw the DS up, to about 50, alone with holding this. You get something like vots or shei bard cloak, or anything, throw up amp and veeshan, you have a 100 or so point damage shield, from 3 songs? If in MT group for raid, it wouldn't just be a toy. I'm sure there are more uses for this thing as well, more than just a toy.

Damage shield damage is almost negligable with higher hp mobs. Also most MT would rather have cap breaker Rizlona on, and clerics would like 32.

This item will likely rot or someone will be forced to loot it. No one will spend dkp/loot rights/whatever on a brass instrument when they could be looting armor (unless they have it all already).

If this were a range item it would be great. As it is who really wants to swap out instruments for the brass effect? This should be a range item. Or better still....a charm slot item $$.

I vote for the charm slot :)

Not that great? Wake up and try a Bard. ANYTHING with raw hps + Sta, not to mention 150hps and 20 Sta, is worth it. And +150 mana on a Bard item??????

Not that great really. Epic still out classes this, the stats are good, but two weapons will give better stats over all. The bonus to songs is nice, but considering you only really use one brass song at that level, it's not that big of a deal.
